3 stars unfortunately stands. $80 before tip for 2 people for 7 "clams," 2 very tiny "pizzas" without all of the toppings the menu claims (my pizza was supposed to have prosciutto, it had none), and 3 drinks total (1 pedestrian Kim Crawford Cabernet Sauvignon, 1 Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest 16 oz, and 1 bitburger 16 oz) is an extremely poor value. The pace of the food coming out was also way too fast like they're forcing you out: we hadn't finished the clams casino appy and the pizza was shoved in our face. This is why I overlooked the missing pizza toppings. Quite frankly, I felt flim-flammed. The atmosphere is cool: they have a giant garage bay-type window they can fully open and it's great on a nice day like today. The food tastes a lot better there on premises than to get as takeout since much of it is from a coal oven. On that note, we weren't even given a proper pizza box to take home our leftovers. Even after asking for a box, we got a crappy foil container. Twice. If you're coming here, expect to overpay. My suggestion is have a drink at the bar, enjoy the atmosphere, and grab food somewhere that's a better value for the dollar. Came here with my friends to get an early dinner. This was a really cute spot in the downtown area. We started off with fresh warm bread which you cannot go wrong with. I ordered the truffle gnocchi as my dish and we shared the margarita pizza. The pizza was the star of the show, really enjoyed that. The truffle was so heavy, I was full after a couple bites. Came here for lunch recently and enjoyed my experience. First, we easily found a parking spot on the street near the restaurant. We managed to snag a table immediately and I was impressed by the ambience inside. They had vines of ivy (or some other vine, maybe - unfortunately I'm not a plant expert) throughout which really enhanced the vibes, and the large open windows near the entrance created a nice breeze and made everything feel a little more elegant. The alcohol selection was decent - I ended up ordering a house wine (merlot, maybe?) that was pretty good. The complimentary bread and olive oil were a little underwhelming, honestly. The bread was a little flavorless, and I could see all of the herbs at the bottom of the olive oil bottle, but I didn't feel like they imparted any real flavor. For my entree, I got the hot honey pizzette. It was pretty good but VERY greasy. The mint was interesting - I can't say I loved it, but it didn't ruin the pizza or anything. Oh yeah, and service throughout the meal was... OK. A little absent for sure, but nothing horrendous. Overall, I would definitely come back here for lunch because of the chill vibes. Decided to try something new for my birthday. I keep going to other restaurants nearby but we will be back! Started with sticky calamari as strongly suggested in reviews. Yum! Tender and not salty. Ordered side salad -plain not worth it can do better at home. Then came our entrees- mushroom ravioli had an amazing tasty not salty mushroom gravy (reminds me of homemade mushroom sauces I had in South Africa ) I will have cravings for this in a few weeks. Dh had the shrimp fantasia. Tasty salty a little on the over done side. Capellini with the liquid sauce is not suggested. The service is great and the ambiance near the bar was nice and a little noisy until the bar opened up a bit. At the recommendation of a friend, my wife and I tried Marcello's on a Sunday evening. The restaurant - located in a quaint downtown Bordentown, looked charming from the outside. Inside, the dining room was dimly lit, clean, spacious and with tasteful decor. The bar area was clean, with shelves full of high-end spirits. The coal-fired oven pizza was delightful. We tried the "Diabla" (long hots, pepperoni, calabrese peppers, tomatoes) - which delivered just the right amount of heat, as well as the "Frankie" (sausage, peppers, onions, provolone, tomatoes). The texture and taste of the crust was delectable. Some of the best pizza that I have ever tasted. Apparently, celebrity pizza reviewer David Portnoy from Barstool Sports agrees, recently visiting Marcello's and scoring the pizza an 8.2 of 10.0. I was really impressed by the craft cocktail program at Marcello's. Of note, they use clear, hand cut ice for classic cocktails like their Old Fashioned ("Cello's Old Fashioned") and Negroni ("Passion Fruit Negroni Viola"). I rate both the Old Fashioned and Negroni perfect scores for taste and presentation. Interestingly, the Old Fashioned uses a Redemption bourbon/rye blend. Our server "Vince" was attentive and helpful, providing great service without being intrusive. Manager Sean also made us feel welcome, going above and beyond. In summary, we loved Marcello's and look forward to returning. In particular, the restaurant is a great setting for a romantic date night. read more

I've been going to Marceollo's for years, and in my opinion it's going downhill. Pros- my Scallopine Chicken was delicious and a nice serving size for lunch. It's a lovely space! Cons- the Sticky Calamari was chewy, sodas are $4 plus they charge a 3.5% credit card processing fee. Also, there was a consistent drip of water from the ceiling behind us which they said could not be addressed. read more

The food was excellent, the bruschetta and Caesar salad were top-tier. The service was also great, our server was an absolute delight. The problem comes with the manager. We told our server that my partner had a shellfish allergy. Halfway through the meal, we realized that something we ordered was cross contaminated with shellfish - fried arancini. They also do a fried calamari dish and don't have segregated friers. We realized this, and I told our server what was going on. The manager came to our table and started MANSPLAINING to me what a shellfish allergy was and how we needed to order food, specifically calling out squid as an allergen. Squid is a mollusk, a shellfish - just like lobster, or clams, or mussels. And it's one of their allergens. This is clearly documented by the FDA in allergen labeling and training seminars. Cross contamination is a risk whenever eating out and we are ready for that and recognize that. The unacceptable part was when the manager started mansplaining about allergies to me. Came in on Mother's Day with my wife and two daughters for dinner. We made a reservation about a week in advance for dinner at 5:00 PM. We arrived on time and the place was a zoo both outside and inside. This wasn't surprising as it's Mother's Day. The host didn't seem organized and I walked away from the host stand with a lack of confidence that he had located our reservation when I approached him to check-in upon arrival. He told me 10 minutes which was no big deal but it took more like 20-25 minutes before we were seated, and after being seated we were moved to another table as there was some confusion between the host and the young women who were seating the guests. Our reservation was for indoors and the initial table was outside so I was glad we were moved to the indoor table, but the whole situation was a bit awkward and I believe avoidable if the host stand and seating process was better managed. That's my perception from what I experienced and observed while waiting for 25 minutes to be seated. Perhaps it was all "under control", but it didn't come off that way. After we were seated, for the second time, the evening improved although their inability to seat guests promptly and manage the overflow of guests near the host stand created a less than optimal ambiance near our table which was constantly crowded with standing guests who were waiting for tables only a few feet from our table as we were eating. I get it as it was crowded, but it was definitely distracting. Our server Evelin was fantastic and was truly the high point of the night. I ordered the filet mignon special which was underwhelming as it arrived at room temperature and over cooked. It was medium well and I ordered medium rare, so not even close, but it was tender and tasted fine with the demi glaze so I opted to not send it back. The rest of the dishes were excellent, but it took more than an hour for our meals to hit the table after we finished our appetizer which was also unexpectedly slow. We didn't finish up with dessert until 7:45 which was three hours past our reservation time. I'm glad we didn't have any additional plans. Desserts were killer good and an excellent way to finish up the meal. Highly recommend getting dessert here...we had four different ones and they were all amazing. This could have easily been a 5-star rating with a properly cooked steak that arrived hot ($59 entree) and a more streamlined process for seating guests and managing the location of additional guests who were crowding the tables near the front. The majority of the issues I observed/experienced are related to less than optimal management. I saw the manager stop at several of the tables and check with guests but he never stopped at ours. We'll definitely be back as i do love the food here but I'd likely never return on a popular date such as Mother's Day. read more

My rating is based on comparable restaurants. This one checks all the boxes. We went for a family lunch. There were 7 of us. We sat is the semi outdoor space on a beutiful day. The atmosphere was kind of like being in an outside garden with a retractabe roof. Very pleasant. Our Server was amazing. Very knowledgeable offered suggestions and provided attentive service without being annoying. Food: We got 3 apps to start. Clams Casino, Calamari and the arancini. They were all destroyed. They give you a good bread a nice rustic italian bread and olive oil with herbs. All of it eaten and enjoyed. Food: I had the spinach salad I cleaned my plate the dressing was like a mix between honey mustard and balsamic. Mom got Lobster ravioli which she finished before me. Dad got a Trenton tomato pie said it was good but not authentic. (He grew up in Trenton). Son had chick parm sandwich. Had lots of cheese and sauce he liked it. The other all got flatbreads. I think one was Diavalo it had diced longs hots and spicy with pepperoni. Then someone got the bella and I cant remember the name of the other one. But everyone cleaned there plates. While in New Jersey with my mom for a gymnastics meet we knew we had to stop for some Jersey pizza. Marcello's was highly regarded online and was given a high score by Dave Portnoy on "One Bite" for their pizza. It is an Italian restaurant that serves more than just pizza. The restaurant is located in downtown Hamilton and parking may be hard to find. The interior is lovely and has a rustic feel to it. The service was a little slow, however it was very busy that Friday night. Our sever wasn't the most attentive, he was very friendly, but you could tell he was very occupied. Wish it could have been a little more attentive, but they were very friendly. The pizzas come in 2 sizes, a large pie or personal (pizzette) pie. We ended up ordering 2 pizzettes to split and a salad to start. For our salad we ordered the portobello goat cheese salad. The size was perfect and we both appreciated the marinated mushrooms paired with the creamiest goat cheese and roasted red peppers. The dressing was also really tasty and had a nice flavor to it that complimented the mushrooms nicely. After we finished our salad they served us complimentary fresh bread. It was freshly baked and still warm when it arrived. The bread was also really light and airy, we enjoyed it with the rich olive that was served with it. As for our pizzas we ordered the Brooklyn margarita pizza and the clam pizza. Never heard of a clam pizza until coming to New Jersey, knew we had to try it. The Brooklyn margarita was really simple, but the quality of ingredients elevated it. The house made sauce with New Jersey San Marzano tomatoes was perfect. And their house made mozzarella cheese was to die for, it really made the whole pizza. The clam pizza was by far the star of the show though. The pizza had a garlic, lemon butter, white wine sauce (not red sauce) and was topped with baby clams. The amount of clams on the pizza was generous and the sauce was so flavorful. The lemony sauce paired with the clams made for an excellent pizza, was like nothing we'd had before. We both thought it was astounding and would recommend trying it. The pizza is coal fired and has a nice charring on it which adds a lot of flavor to the it. Especially the the margarita with their red sauce. Marcello's Coal Fired Pizza is definitely a great place to get high quality pizza and Italian food. We were not disappointed with the food by any means and it was very good. However, the service was a little disappointing and we felt like our waiter wasn't the most attentive that night. Can't say we will be back in the area anytime soon, but if we are, we will be stopping here again, especially the grab that clam pizza! read more

My wife and I went there last night. We both ordered Chicken parm dinners. When they arrived they barely had any sauce on them. I asked for some extra sauce no one brought it. After 5 minutes I asked the bartender for extra sauce. He said he would get it but there was an upcharge of $5. Now I could give 2 sh*ts about $5 but that is ridiculous. I asked him to bring it anyway. If I asked for an extra like a meatball or something that would normally not be included I would understand the charge, but not for extra sauce. If they had given an ample amount of sauce to begin with, then I would not have had to ask for extra. If I had thought about it, we would have returned both dinners and let them eat the cost. When dinner was over I asked for a manager. No one came over. I waited 15 minutes and paid the bill and left. read more

In the last year, I have been to Marcello's on two separate occasions. The first one was a date, and that entire evening was a good one at this restaurant. Even without a reservation they managed to seat us in a timely manner. The room we sat in was the room to the right of the hostess station. The tables were covered with a white tablecloth and the room felt elegantly decorated. Service was quick and attentive. The food was pretty good, although the clams linguini was a little salty. The fried calamari was delicious and so was the red sangria. Everything about this first night was great. However, I went back with a larger party of about 10 many months after this and had a different experience. Firstly, it was chilly in the area we sat in the very back by the 'barn doors' by the kitchen. This area of the restaurant (passed the bar) is more casual and definitely not a date spot as was the spot I went the first time I came here on an actual date. The food was subpar to be honest, and this is a place where people rant and rave about the food. Many of the guests in my party agreed. Again, a lot of salt in the food which I now see is a recurring theme from whoever is cooking. The chicken Marsala was overcooked and the chicken was splintering. The shrimp fantastia wasn't bad minus the saltiness. I do also have to mention the parking situation which, although unrelated directly to the restaurant, makes it very undesirable to come here. I had to drop my mom off so I could drive around and find a spot, and it took almost 20 minutes until I found one and I still had to walk quite far. So, if you are looking for a place that is very laid back to get to, I wouldn't suggest going here. I will add that this goes for all of the restaurants on this street (Farnsworth Avenue), so it is not specific to Marcello's. Will I be back? If it's a special occasion that someone wants to go to, sure. Otherwise if it is up to me, most likely not. read more

I made reservations a few days before and there was every time available. I added a note requesting the main dining room. The day of, I decided to change the time by 15 minutes. When we arrived, we were seated in the side room despite the request. We asked if there was any availability in the main dining room and there was not. I know requests cannot always be accommodated however it was disappointing because I made the reservation well in advance and even the day of, it was showing plenty of availability. A table by us was regulars and was getting much better treatment and service. They were offered bread and I feel like since my boyfriend and I appear younger, we were looked down upon. We never got bread and the attention lacked. Despite the accommodations and service, the food was good. A few weeks after, I did do a takeout order for a tomato pie and it was great! Had that been my first encounter, I would definitely have rated higher. read more

I have been to Marcello's several times. They have a great happy hour menu. I have always been impressed by the service so I invited to friends to experience Marcello's for the first time. I have to say I was really disappointed with our server. He must've been new and while I give grace to people who are training it's hard to excuse a bad attitude and rudeness. I asked for dressing on the side of my Caesar salad. Salad came out w/dressing mixed in. I asked for it to be returned. He seemed annoyed. Then we were charged for two Caesar salads when we received the bill. Also were charged extra for additional dressing on another salad. When my friend ordered her salad and asked for two kinds of dressing, our server never mentioned the additional charge. When we received the bill and questioned the charges, he was rude and annoyed. I have never had this experience there before. All of our waitresses have gone above and beyond. He needs to get with the program! Besides the service glitch I must say the place is beautiful. We sat in the open air area. It was a bit hot but not unbearable. My friends were in love with the seafood salad. I enjoyed the eggplant rollatini and a Caesar side salad. The dressing was not my favorite- it tasted sweet unlike traditional Caesar dressing. Next time I'll try the house salad. read more

I thought the pricing was totally overpriced for such a small pizza. Hostess and waiter were excellent and the inside of the restaurant is beautiful. Sister in law was staying nearby and she lives in El Paso which according to her doesn't have a lot of good Italian options. We chose Marcello's over others in the area because of the full bar. We got there about 25 minutes early for our reservation but they were able to seat us immediately. The server whose name I forget came by quickly setting a trend by being close by whenever we needed anything. The place had the feel of a family joint; this was augmented by being located in a Main Street small town with lots of similar establishments around (it's next door to a witch store which was actually pretty cool!). After a round of drinks we opted for calamari for an appetizer and it was light and crispy, very tasty! Everyone got a different entree. I went with the Pelto Marinara with chicken and shrimp; sister-in-law got the Fig Pizza, the son got bolognese, and I forget what my wife ordered. My meal was wonderful, and everything else was gone in quick order despite us having a couple of baskets of really great, warm bread. The dessert tray involved some things that seemed premade (lava cake, peanut butter explosion). They were good but a little generic. The shot of Sambuca helped! For a party of five drinking before and with the meal, one appetizer, and dessert and coffee came to about $320 after tip for four adults, which seems a little high but we left a nice tip for the good service! read more
