Marcellos always has great food and a fun atmosphere. We love going there for dinner. If you want an amazing meal with great service and a friendly atmosphere, you can't go wrong here. That's a given. Above and beyond that, in these crazy isolation times, they are offering a complementary tray of pasta with any large pizza. Any time you order a large pizza to go or delivery in March, you get a tray of pasta. Business's like this spread kindness and empathy during this hard time. A group of us came here for my coworker's pre-birthday dinner on a Thursday evening. The place was a bit empty around 5 PM but started to fill up over the next couple hours. Service was very amenable to our group's requests. The happy hour appetizer deals were great! We enjoyed the Italian eggroll, eggplant rollatini, and pizza (maybe they called it pizzette). As my main course, I had fig pizza (asked for vegetarian). It was very nice! Pleasant mix of sweet and savory, light yet filling. On one of those first seasonable days of Spring recently, we took a stroll around Bordentown - and seeing the outdoor dining and "coal fired pizza" sign at Marcello's, decided to dive in. I ordered the mushroom, gruyere, and truffle honey pizza, while husband opted for a more traditional tomato pie. Initially, we figured on sharing a typical medium pizza, but unless I was mistaken, it looked as if individual "pies" (they looked more like flatbreads) were the only option. The flavors of the mushroom/gruyere pie were outstanding - and the crust was both chewy and crunchy. Really delightful. The Brooklyn tomato pie wasn't quite what my husband expected, but he enjoyed it, along with a rum and coke. (I opted for coffee.) As much as we savored our selections - and dining here was a lovely way to extend our perambles around town, the price tag would have been bit hefty for a "pizza outing" with one alcoholic beverage and a coffee. ($47, then tip on top of that.) Surely, it is difficult to rate a restaurant on one visit for pizza when there are so many other substantial offerings on the menu, but I would certainly recommend dining here. Very disappointed in this restaurant tonight. Been here so many times over the years and tonight was honestly not good!! Service was good only because of Emma, who saved the night. But food was definitely off. Veal parm and chicken Marsala were mediocre at best. Bland flavors. Make both myself at home so much better...What's going on with chef? Marcello's is always a go to! Went with my wife and our 1 year old son for our anniversary. The host took us right to our table that had a high chair ready for us. Loved that they actively read the comments for reservations! Food is always delicious and drinks are great as well. Happy hour ends at 6. We had a reservation for 5:45pm and once we sat down our waitress asked us to look at the happy hour menu and see if we wanted anything before the time ended which is great because some places stop the happy hour ordering 15 minutes before the end. Wether you want a nice place to relax on a date or a place to hang with friends, this is one of the greatest in the area! read more

The restaurant is open, with outdoor and open air indoor seating. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were seated immediately. The restaurant is quite popular among the locals, and it was quite busy on an early afternoon. The decor is modern and very cute; it would be a lovely place for a date. They have an extensive drinks menu, and all the drinks were presented beautifully. If we didn't have to drive, I would've ordered several different ones to try. Their menu is also extensive, from pizza to pasta to salad to "by sea" items and "by land" items. I was overwhelmed, but in a good way. I ended up going with the Trio Scampi, which was a bed of linguine topped with mussels, clams and shrimps. It was a bit salty and the portion size was tiny for the price, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would love to come back and try the other entrees. My friend ordered the vegetarian pizza with no dairy, and the server was nice enough to bring a side of marinara sauce. He was definitely not a fan of "vegan pizza!" I can't wait to come back and enjoy the restaurant when it's cooler. It was a bit suffocating today even with the open air concept. read more

Great place, one of my local favorites. Great vibe, upscaled professional crowd. We like sitting at the bar and enjoying the cocktails and great food. I ordered the tacos (taco Tuesday) my wife ordered the chicken broccoli rabe sandwich. Both were prepared perfectly and were generous prtions. Second time went with another couple and ordered Pizzas and main dishes which were good. However the main dishes were served 15 minutes AFTER the Pizzas were served so 2 of us were finished and 2 had no food! They botched the serve timing which ruined the night. I made a reservation for 6 people yesterday March 29, and that was fine we proceeded to order appetizers which were ok but the 2 Veal Scallopine dinners the veal was so tough I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it I didn't say anything because it was busy and I was with family and didn't want to spoil the moment but the icing on the cake was with the veal you could either have potato and vegetable or pasta so instead of a lemon sauce I said I just wanted tomato sauce nothing special like vodka or Alfredo and they charged me 6.00 just for the sauce mind you I brought it to the waiter's attention and he came back and told me that was there policy , ok I paid it 217.00 plus I gave a very 20 percent plus tip but we will never go back again and this was for 4 dinners because the 2 children one had an order of fries and the other a kids pizza and a side of meatballs that's it .The manager was very nice seating us but the food left a lot to be desired for those prices I could have went to Toscano , I don't care about the money I just want good quality food and that veal was like shoe leather I eat all the time and you know when it's not flat they didn't tenderize it enough .Service was ok . read more

A rare 3 generations dinner that was supposed to be delightful turned into a very bad experience. We ordered a $14 chicken parm for my granddaughter. The server asked her if she would like the sauce on the pasta alone or on the meat as well. The word extra was never mentioned. She didn't inform us that sauce on both comes at an extra charge, nor was it mentioned on the kids' menu. Imagine our surprise when we got the check and saw an extra charge of $7!!! on a $14 kids meal. That's an additional 50% charge. When we expressed our dismay to the manager, he showed us that in the $7 appears in the side orders in a totally different part of the menu. He refused to do the right thing, stating that "the restaurant has to make money, and he also doesn't appreciate my daughter getting upset and complaining in front of other customers." Really??? Well, buddy, this is the last $100 you'll sew from us... Regarding the restaurant itself, honestly? The food was nothing to write home about, my mojito was heavy on sweetness and light on alcohol, the service was , we waited 15 minutes for our check in spite of telling our server that we needed it quickly because we had to go p/u someone at the airport and the place was very noisy. read more

I went here for the pizza but came away wanting something else again. Let me be straight, the pizza is very good and I especially like the sauce. Very fresh tasting. However, the chicken parm with vodka sauce was one of my favorite chicken Parms. The pasta was cooked perfectly with a nice chew. The chicken was crispy and tender with a not too much breading. The vodka sauce was thick, creamy and full of flavor. I left there in a carb coma. The portion size was very good and well worth the price. The staff was very friendly as well! read more

I truly have mixed feelings about the place. The servers we've dealt with are friendly and do a good job. The food is pretty OK, but has varied in quality and portion size (value for the money.) They'd get four stars from me based on these things, but the biggest issue I have is that the place is VERY loud inside, whether you're in the bar or the side dining room (the bar was actually somewhat quieter, probably because it's located in a room with a greenhouse "ceiling" that slides open - and it WAS open last night.) The other sticking point is that they have a weak selection of inexpensive wines by the bottle, and even the inexpensive ones are rather pricey. The bottle we bought last night was $40, and is a go-to cheapo wine we buy routinely for $13. This, coupled with the fairly good but small salad (think slightly larger than a side-salad) with a modest piece of salmon on it for $26 made me feel just a wee bit butt-hurt when time came to pay the bill. My wife's meal was a better portion of food for the money, but it was kind of blah - she could make a better chicken dish than that one all day long. If I were stuck with no other options after a long drive I'd call the place a godsend, but given that we have a few other options closer to home than this, we'll probably not be back. This, by the way, was not our first visit. We ate here on a night that was not as busy and the food and service were, again, pretty OK (food was actually better that night, which was why we returned), but actually chose on that night not to have wine because of their pricing. read more

The Shroom pizza with wild mushrooms, gruyere, truffle honey, adn topped with arugula has got to be one of the best pizza's anywhere and I've been to many famous gourmet pizza places. We typically sit at the bar, order an appetizer and the same pizza because it's just so good and is the reason we go here. The mussels as an appetizer are fantastic as well and so are the arancini. The bar manager knows someone at a distillery in Colorado and servers their liquors as the "house" or "well" choices but they are, in my opinion, premium spirits. The prices at Marcello's are fairly high for the area but the place is always packed even on a Monday night. The bar area has the feel of a NYC or Philadelphia restaurant. The mens bathroom is also really cool with vintage Brooklyn Dodgers and Yankee photos on the wall. read more

On a roadtrip we decided not to settle for rest area fast food on the New Jersey Turnpike but to find a place we could truly relax at and be satiated. Marcello's wasn't our first choice but everything happens for a reason. (See my Under the Moon Café review.) Marcello's was packed but had room and time for us! Seated right away our waitress, Emma, quickly got us comfy and hydrated. We would've loved to try what looked like amazing cocktails and desserts but, again, we had a roadtrip to complete. We thoroughly enjoyed Sticky Calamari!! Shrimp Fantasia with paradelle pasta, Shrimp Oreganata also with paradelle & Saltimbocca Chicken with masked potatoes and broccoli. All were good but the highlight was surely the Sticky Calamari appetizer. Although neither shrimp dishes had mentioned lemon seasoning (we're not fans of) in the descriptions, both had it. I was certainly surprised by the lack of garlic & white wine sauce, both mentiomed, and the strong lemon, neither mentioned. Especially in the Shrimp Oreganata. Although still good, it was not what we'd expected after choosing something we'd never tried based off the menu descriptions. Emma suggested the paradelle pasta pairing and glad we listened. We'd love to try it again with different sauce. Leave the lemon out. read more

I was so excited to try this place but unfortunately I was left disappointed and dissatisfied. To start the service was terrible. The majority of our party ordered their drinks from the bar so when we got to the table all we needed were two sodas and it took 10 minutes to get them. The pizza did make up for it however because it was amazing. But all the food after that did not live up to it. The chicken franchise and the lobster mushroom were bland. I had also put in the reservation and again reminded him that it was my brothers birthday but no singing or dessert menu was provided. There were two tables with birthdays that received this so it was very disappointing that we did not. Lastly it was a cute restaurant and even though there were many people, I did not feel crowded at the table. The decor was cute welcoming. Stumbled upon this place while walking around downtown and decided to grab a drink. Their beer selection isn't stellar, but my wife enjoyed all of her cocktails and the bartender was oh so friendly. We ended up signing up for their Valentine's Day dinner. Flash forward to a month later, we were back again for Valentine's Day. The ambiance was very nice, although the lowlight setting did make the menu hard to read even with my glasses (sucks getting old). Our wine was amazing and by my standards, incredibly priced at around $30. Cocktails were on point and all the food was amazing. I got the sunflower seed encrusted snapper and was blown away. Even when I finished it two days later, it was still delicious. Our server was super attentive and nice -- even allotted us a little more time since they were booked out. My husband and I went to Marcello's last evening for dinner following an appointment. We were seated a little before 7 pm and waited about 10 minutes for the waiter to take our drink order. We placed our full order with the waiter about 15 minutes later and got the appetizer some time after. We noticed the restaurant was full and plates were coming out steadily in small numbers (2 or 3 at a time). Since food is made to order we weren't too concerned about how slow the food was coming to tables. However after numerous assurances our order was "fired" we still did not have our entrees at 8:30. We decided not to wait any longer and asked for the check for the two glasses of wine and the appetizer. The waiter tried to assure us again that our order was "next" but by this time we were not interested in continuing to wait. The floor manager stopped by and asked us about the situation. After a brief back and forth, without any apologies for the delay, he said our check would be coming. The waiter finally brought the check to us and said he took our entrees off and also told us this was "not a fast food restaurant". We were taken back by the cavalier attitude. There was no apology for the experience by the waiter or floor manager. As we were leaving an older gentleman at the hostess stand asked us about our meal and we told him we were not happy. However before we had a chance to explain the floor manager swept in and told him everything was taken care of. Bottom line is Marcello's is not worth the wait. PS the restaurant passes the credit card surcharge along to the customer so be prepared to spend extra for the luxury of using credit. read more

This was a delivery order. The grilled calamari in the Grilled Calamari Salad was rubbery. The fettucine (two portions) we ordered did not arrive with the rest of the order. The lobster ravioli was undistinguished and did not seem to contain much lobster. When I called the restaurant to obtain a refund for the fettucine, I received a message stating that they were not accepting calls at that time. We drove over 30 minutes only to experience the worst service. The waiters that we encountered were friendly, but, knew nothing of the food or drinks. Our server was MIA for 20 minutes. If a restaurant expects people to frequent their establishment & pay exorbitant prices, there should be training for their waitstaff. No excuse for this. And if "short staffed" fits this reason, we have been to several places that also short staffed, but, have trained their staff to communicate & deliver.
