Look them up online on Monday, states $60 for men's cut. Walk in Tuesday for a cut, charged $70, ask about website price "oh that's old, we raised our prices today, we had signs up". Explained it was first time going there and asked to pay $60, denied rudely. Great haircut, will never return. Way to lose a new customer over a $10 one time make good. read more

Based on my stylist I would have given 5 stars, but my first impression from the scheduling & shampoo girl the first day was not good. Our son was getting married, and we live out of town, so I made an appointment for both Friday (Rehearsal Dinner) and Saturday (Wedding) with the same stylist. I wanted a style and blow out for both events. Souad was just a delight. She listened, and did what I asked. The second day (wedding) she fancied me up just enough. I was pretty busy that day, and she and her assistant on Saturday took such great care..got me a bit to eat, coffee, water..When we return to Boston, I will definitely go back. The only negative is that the first day, the girl who shampooed me told me to go in a closet, and get a cape out of a box on the floor. What??? I thought it was weird, but whatever. Once I met my stylist, Souad , I was over it. When I returned on Saturday, a different girl shampooed me. This time was so much better. She went and got the cape, showed me where to go, and was just more professional. Conclusion...great salon, great stylist, great products..needs more consistent support staff. read more

I loved this place. Loved it. Loved it. I have to say that I usually go to SuperCuts as paying more than $30 to trim my ends seems too much to me. However, I think I will be coming back as the service was great when I visited it. The colorist was funny, patient (she's on maternity leave right now and I forgot her name) and she understood and gave me exactly what I needed. Unfortunately some hairdressers and some people at the front desk there have certain attitude as I believe this is the Ritz Carlton salon and I am sure they have seen a lot of famous people but still.. please exercise that attitude out at the SCLA. read more

Big fan of the facility and general location. Parking garage is a big bonus as well as easy access to Route 93. Parking is validated and you can actually get your car washed in the garage while you are getting your hair done. I am always able to get the appointment I want that fits my schedule. I usually try to book about 2 weeks in advance; I usually visit in the middle of the week. I was there on a Saturday once and the atmosphere was busy and crazy. This might be obvious, but plan ahead when the holiday season is in full swing. Very busy, very difficult finding the appointment that fits your schedule, etc... Staff and Stylists are all very friendly and professional, no complaints or bad experiences. Longest I have waited past my scheduled appointment time was 20 minutes, it was around the holiday, it was very busy which I expected and accepted as I mentioned above. My Stylist and entire Staff were very apologetic. Even though you work with one Stylist working on your hair, the entire process, Team and individuals involved work very well together. From the check-in process, to the prep work, to the person washing and drying your hair pre-cut (and post-cut if needed); it just seemed like everyone knows their role and is happy. I had tried a few different people cutting my hair during my first 3 visits. They were all very good and when I was making appointments I never really specified who I wanted; didn't really matter. During one visit in my first year at the Salon I was introduced to Laura; she has been my Stylist for the last 4 plus years. Very nice, excellent to talk with and understands my hair and how I like it. She never disappoints and I always look forward to taking time out of my day and week to relax, have a good talk and get a great haircut. I had never been picky before about who cuts my hair, when, how much to cut off, etc..., but after a few visits with Laura I understood the value of consistency and familiarity for my hair. I enjoy the Salon and the experience; it seems like every Stylist that I watch (with sooo many mirrors all over the floor plan) have their regulars, everyone seems very comfortable and happy. read more

I could not be happier with the services I receive at this salon. It's bright, airy, and you are always met with a smile and a friendly person at the front desk. You can get your parking validated so it's only $5! But the real gem is a stylist by the name of Kylene. She is the only person I will let touch my hair and she does an absolutely amazing job. Choosing to be blonde means you are going to do some damage to your hair, but my hair looks incredibly healthy, shiny and as natural as can be. I feel like a new woman every time I see Kylene and she's just a joy to talk to and be around during the whole appointment. She works at this location as well as Newbury St. I promise that if you want to get the best blonde in Boston, Kylene is your girl! read more

My third time at Salon Marc Harris, and it's always a wonderful, professional and down-to-earth atmosphere. If you're looking for an amazing cut and/or bayalage/ombré, ask for Irina -- she's amazing! My hair actually looked great nine months later and while I wouldn't advise waiting that long in between appointments, it's good to know that the color will last that long if you want (and you don't have to worry about roots with ombré). I've used Irina three times and couldn't be more pleased. read more

My friends and I received a gift certificate to Salon Marc Harris for an event that we attended in late February. We decided to have a girls' day and book mani/pedis using the gift certificates. My friend called the salon and talked to one of the receptionists, Tatiana. My friend mentioned that we had gift certificates and inquired whether or not we could use them for the appointment. Tatiana assured us that it was okay so we booked the appointments and were excited to try a new salon. My friends arrived before I did so they were already getting their pedicures. When I arrived, I showed them the gift certificate to ensure that we could definitely use it. The receptionists, Tatiana and Ashley said, "not a problem." I received my manicure from Robin. She was friendly and did a nice job but nothing that a regular salon couldn't do for half the price. When we went to check out and showed our gift certificates, we were informed by Tatiana that the gift certificates did not work for the services we had. There was not a manager on site so she made a quick phone call and once again, informed us that the gift certificates were not valid. She mentioned that the gift certificates were only for services conducted by two new stylists. There was no attempt of quality customer service. There was a postcard with the gift certificate that welcomed the two stylists, but it was completely unclear that the gift certificate was only valid for that. Tatiana agreed that the gift certificate was unclear, but said, "we have all types of gift certificates we give out." That did make any of us feel better about our experience - particularly since we inquired before we actually booked the appointments and then I asked again when I arrived for the actual appointment. We did not want this experience to ruin our fun, girls' day so decided to shake it off, pay and follow up with the manager on Monday. The receptionist certainly did not have the customer service empowerment to do what was right - so we had hope that the manager might be more professional. Sidebar: After we paid and left, Salon Marc Harris called my friend to ask for payment. She explained that she did already pay with her credit card. The receptionist said, "Oh yeah, the gift certificate thing. Sorry to bother you again" Anyway.......... The manager, Kim Stevens returned my friends' phone call and stated that the invitation was clear. My friend then read the gift certificate to her once again and reiterated that it did not stipulate that services were only valid for the two new stylists. So then Kim blamed the company that hosted the event and handed out the gift certificates stating, "they should have explained it to everyone." The certificate was in a gift bag. Why should the company who hosted the event have to explain the terms when Salon Marc Harris did not on their own gift certificate? Ultimately, Kim agreed the language was vague and then passed the blame to their marketing department. My friends and I plan to reach out to the corporate office where we will most likely get a similar response. I believe in quality customer service and client experience. If this review saves one person from booking an appointment at Salon Marc Harris, that is sufficient for me. Spend your money where people care. read more

Booked an appointment using a free $50 voucher. When i missed the appointment, i was charged the full cost of the manicure on my credit card. when i called to remind them that I was using a voucher for the service and would like the charge taken off my credit card, the manager said that she did not have the ability to do so. Worst customer service that i have ever experienced at a salon. I spoke directly with the manager, who only kept citing company wide policy. I would not recommend this salon and will not be making another appointment. read more

There are many good stylists/colourists here: Lori, Laura, Orlando, Irina, Sou, Ashley, etc. The salon is nice but the sinks are super uncomfortable and the prices are very high (and recently went up). There is a great selection of products, and parking is easy/cheap ($5). I wish the prices hadn't gone up. I'm not sure I will continue going. Note to salon: If you pay $150-$200 for color, a blow dry should not cost an additional $60! Why isn't there a bundle price which reflects some savings and why not use students at the very least to offer complimentary blow dries? read more

I had a very positive experience at the salon on Avery Street. Had my haircut by Kelli and a corrective partial by Lori and feel like I've found my new salon. I'm very happy with how my hair looks and will definitely return. read more

I have been going to the salon for several years. Orlando is good and I was happy with my haircuts. I feel that the service level is really bad lately. The last visit I had to wait 30 minutes for my appointment while nobody at the salon really cared. The receptionist went to check what is going on only after I said that I can't wait for any longer. I feel that it was unprofessional and disrespectful. For such prices and being a loyal client for many years, I would expect the much better level of service. I understand that sometimes things happen, and a simple phone call that he is running late would be sufficient or at least an apology for ruining my day. No, I wouldn't recommend this salon. read more

The one thing I do have to say in regards to my last review is that I don't totally blame my stylist for what happened. they had been sick two days prior to my appointment (equaling two missed days at the salon) and the salon double booked them as a result. I have no doubt that they were pressuring my stylist to make up for time and money lost since in the 3 years I was seeing my stylist nothing like this ever happened. read more

The stylist who I went to at Marc Harris Broad Street, Jency, recently left so I decided to give Salon Marc Harris at the Ritz Carlton another try. This time I went to Shannon for a hair cut. She did a nice job, although I was not exactly floored by my hair cut. I would recommend her as she knows what she is doing and is clearly capable, but I may stay on the look out for a new hair dresser. Although, suffice to say, this experience was clearly better than my first experience at this location (see other review). read more

Loved my haircut with Giovanni!! I never do anything crazy with my hair and he could tell the type of look I was going for (layers with long bangs) without even delving too much into specifics. An hour later and I walked out with perfectly cut and coiffed hair that he taught me how to curl with a straightening iron. He also knew that I wanted a low maintenance cut so that it is now 2 weeks later and I am just as happy with my haircut as I was right after I walked out of the salon. Although they are definitely a pricy, it is well worth your money :) read more

Thought I'd update my original post. I'm not one to write reviews (really only review unexpected bad service to mostly vent) so to write two "couldnt be happier" reviews is out of norm for me. She's still my favorite hairdresser in Boston. For all the bad highlights and cuts I've gotten in the past year from various salons all over, I thought the least I can do is highly recommend someone who is good. As long as she is a stylist, I will come to the salon read more

Been going here for some years. Sadly the customer service and prices don't match. Pity, the quality of haircuts is excellent and very convenient if you use the gym. Front office and organization leaves much to be desired. read more

My husband and I have been going to this salon since 2003 or 2004, before it was even owned by Marc Harris, so fair to say we know the place well. Now we also take our kids there. Most of the stylists have remained since then (which means low turnover and long-term clients), and we've tried a number of them over the years. Overall, I think the stylists here are above average to excellent. My stylist of more than five years, Ashley Brecken, has worked diligently to find a cut and color that really work for me. She listened and tweaked until she managed to restore the natural-looking blonde I had in my youth. I get lots of compliments on it! The front desk staff used to change frequently, but lately has been more consistent. Most are great and are clearly focused on making your experience pleasant; a few, not so much, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a salon with 100% great service from the front desk. Overall, above average. I do feel the salon is somewhat over-priced, but it's in the Ritz, so I don't expect that to change any time soon. The location has lots to offer. There's the Sports Club/LA, a spa, a gift shop, a dry cleaning window, and both casual and fine dining restaurants, ALL on the same floor. The car wash guys in the parking garage are excellent. We also like to see a movie downstairs at the Loews Boston Common, or even take a stroll in the real Boston Common when the weather is nice. However, if you just want a great haircut or color without all the frills, I'm sure there are stylists who are just as talented at salons that don't charge as much. Hence, 4 stars instead of 5, but it works for us! read more

This review is specific to my stylist, Yojanse. He is wonderful - always professional, sweet, and super talented! I have followed Yojanse to multiple salons over the past 5-6 years and am always sure to stop in and see him when I am back in Boston. I am eagerly awaiting his NY arrival. I have thick, difficult to manage mixed-race hair and Yojanse always knows exactly which products to use and styling tools to employ to make my hair look stellar. I have come to him for chemical treatments as well as the typical wash and blow-out/style. I've sent multiple friends to Yojanse for cuts, trims, blowouts, keratin treatments, etc. He is the best! read more

I feel like reviewing hair salons is sort of pointless because a lot really depends on the individual hairstylists, but I have seen two stylists over the years at Salon Marc Harris and have really loved both of them (Shannon and Laura), so I feel confident recommending the salon in general. The atmosphere is pleasant and bright, and everyone is friendly for the most part - minus a couple instances of over-the-top snootiness, but I suppose that's part and parcel with higher-end salons. All of the cuts I've had there have been fine to good, but I really go for the color. Both Shannon and Laura have done great jobs with my blond highlights, although it does seem to take a LONG time every time I'm there (3-4 hours minimum for highlight and cut, but I do have a lot of hair). The prices are steep but in-line with other high-end salons in the city. Overall, this is the only salon I've ever come back to consistently - so it gets my seal of approval. read more

I'm having a destination wedding in a month so I went there for a hair trial with Ashley Brecken. She was AMAZING. She tried 3 different styles that I wanted to see in my hair. She took pictures of every steps so I can bring them with me on my wedding day away. She even gave advice on the different products that my hairstylist should used to make it look exactly like I liked it. She is a true artist and worked in my hair like it was a piece of art. I'm so glad that I went there to see her! read more

Samantha has been my stylist for over 5 years and when she moved to Salon Marc Harris last year, I of course followed. She is a fantastic colorist and gives me equally fantastic haircuts. Sam has a lot of great style ideas and encourages me to try new things. But at the same time she listens to me if I say that I just want the same highlights as last time. Whatever she does, she is always enthusiastic and has a smile on her face! She is one of the nicest people in the world and always makes sure I am comfortable and have everything I need when I sit down in her chair. The salon is bright and has a lot of natural light which is nice. Everything and everyone has their own space without feeling crowded. The staff is nice and attentive. They will offer you coffee or soda or go to the bar down the hall to get you a class of wine. Going to the salon to see Sam is something I always look forward to. I wouldn't trust anyone else to cut or color my hair and I recommend her and the salon to everyone I know. read more

Unprofessional I decided to try this salon since it is located in the same building as my gym. They made me wait for more than 20 mins past my appointment time and then said it would take 10 mins or more. I ended up canceling. And they were not really sorry about that. read more

My daughter had her wedding at this hotel so I booked hair appointments for 15 guests at this salon. I gave them six months notice and countless phone calls to confirm . The service was appalling....I got complaints from 80% of the guests. the head stylist Joseph was unbelievably rude. One guest actually left him in tears. There was never a manager on site and the receptionist was new and totally disorganized. I stay at the hotel frequently but would never recommend this hair salon. I also booked hair appointments at other Boston salons and all of them were so much better. read more

This is my first negative review on yelp. I will never go back and I will never recommend Salon Marc Harris. I went a month ago for an updo. I called on the phone ahead of time and I was told it was going to be $100. I thought it was a little pricey but I was willing to try because the location is convenient for me. After I got my updo I paid $100 with the receptionist Kathleen. After I had signed and put my card away the stylist came out and whispered in the receptionists ear. They turned to me and then they said they made a mistake AFTER I'd already paid and tipped the stylist. They wanted $50 dollars more!! $150 for an updo that took 45 minutes from start to finish. I pointed to the sign that showed her the price was $100. The stylist that did my hair then explained to me "well that's not my price, MY price is $150." If I wasn't headed to my friends wedding I probably would have put up a stink with management but instead I just gave her the ridiculous difference for an updo not even worth $100, and knew I would never be back. Too bad, I love the spa down the hall and could have been a regular at Salon Marc Harris. I agree with the previous writer, Jessie, their customer service is terrible and their prices way too high. read more

Not worth the price you pay for what you leave with. While my cut and color was okay, it was definitely not worth upwards of $400. My service was with Samantha. I returned for 2 bang trims (to try to get my money's worth- not worth it!), one with Samantha and one with a different stylist when Samantha failed to be there for my appointment. Both bang cuts were awful! When I tried to contact the salon to let them know I was dissatisfied, no one returned my emails or calls. Since then, I have found an AMAZING stylist in Coolidge Corner, Caitlin at Michael's Salon on Harvard Ave. http://www.yelp.com/biz/michaels-salon-brookline read more

Nice salon in the Ritz/Sport Club LA. Stylists are friendly and accommodating and don't do annoying things like judge you for not using 5 pounds of product daily or push you into buying 5 pounds of said product. The salon is nice and airy with lots of floor-to-ceiling windows. I cover my hair (in front of dudes I'm not married or related to) and they were really great about accommodating me at a time when there would be no such dudes and finding me a more private location in the salon. The haircuts and clientele are sort of traditional/classic, not super hip or edgy. I wasn't blown away by the haircut - it was solid, but for $75, I was hoping something besides my hair would be blown away. They have a good selection of products - Kerastase and Bumble and Bumble and the such. Good if you want a more traditional haircut, probably not if you want a mohawk or something funky and edgy. I would give it a 3.5 stars if I could, mainly for the service and facilities. read more

Really bad experience with color. Came in super pale blond, looking for basic one process to brighten up my color. I left with steel gray with the hint of purple hair. The pricing is also very deceiving. I was quoted $85+ for my hairstylist. For my one step process and application of gloss, I ended up paying $130. I know several people that mentioned the same problem, I just never experienced anything as drastic as that before. read more

Ellen Mackin is THE BEST stylist I found in Boston. I've been here 5 years and haven't found anyone who can cut my hair well, let alone as fabulous as she can. I am a Caucasian woman and have straight thick-ish hair- she gives it motion and let's it be a fun sexy haircut without being over the top. I never use product or style my hair- just wash and go- and with my cuts from her I look fantastic doing so. read more

Thank you Maha!! She saved the day. I flew in from out of town for my friends wedding at the Ritz, and though I'd booked ahead, there was confusion about needing a stylist who could do up-do's. The lady booked for me couldn't make it into work and apparently no one else could do up-styles, but Maha stepped in and saved me! She's a highly accomplished stylist and accommodated my emergency request beautifully. The reception ladies were also diligent trying to help. Many thanks! read more

I recently had my hair colored by Samantha and she was great. She gave her honest opinion and really seemed to care. The only thing I did not like was having my hair washed. The place I normally go to gives amazing shampoos with a head massage. The girl who washed my hair pulled it and was not gentle. The beautiful color was worth the 10 min of discomfort. read more

I went here twice a few years ago. The first time was with a groupon for a brazilian blowout (OMG - remember how those were so popular before it was found out that they kill you?!?). And the second time, I liked the girl so much (Kelly, who is no longer there), that I got a cut. She did a great job on the cut, probably one of the best I've had in years, and I was super psyched to have found a stylist in Boston. Unfortunately, Kelly left a short time later and I just couldn't see spending the money they charge and taking a risk on anyone else. I just felt like everyone else I encountered there had an attitude and there was this air of fakeness from everyone working. And to be honest, the whole salon looks like you could put it in a strip mall and it would fit in nicely. It's very standard salon-ware and for the high price tag, I expect more. read more

While I would give the salon itself more than one star, you need to watch out for Rebecca. I could really go on and on about what transpired over the two years that she was doing my hair (especially towards the end). But, what you really need to know is that if she decides that she is done with you she will deliberately ruin your hair to get rid of you. She will also do things to send the message that she doesn't want you to come back. I guess I was too dense to realize what she was up to until it got so bad that I couldn't ignore it anymore! She obviously has clients that love her and my assessment is that she is pretty good with color and a little less good with her haircuts. But, she has some anger issues and I suggest that you look elsewhere if you don't want to deal with it. read more
