It has moved into the site formerly housing Cold Rock at Garden City......it has got that familiar marble slab......mall rats are lounging around twitching their noses and watching the ice-cream with beady eyes. Yet it's not Cold Rock. It's not even some cheap owner refusing to pay the franchising fee on a Cold Rock shop. Marble Slab Creamery is an international chain and Garden City is its first Brisbane-based franchise.
I know gelati is kicking ice-cream's butt at the moment in the popularity arena but perhaps that's why I've made a return to it. I've always supported the underdog even if it means an extra couple of kilos to my thighs.
Despite being a completely different franchise, the concept is basically the same as Cold Rock. Pick a flavour of ice-cream and some mix-ins. Watch the puny shop assistant struggle to get a decent sized scoop and then mix everything up on a cold marble slab. Pay for ice-cream. Run far away from the mall rats and enjoy ice-cream in peace.
It's impossible to recommend a flavour as there are a million combinations to be had. The other night, I had the Caramel peanut butter crisp - sweet cream ice cream with crushed butter finger, chocolate chips and caramel. D'lish! Marble Slab Ice Creamery definitely has better quality ice-cream than Cold Rock.
If you want something a little different there's always the ice-cream pizza. Personally I'm not game but I'd love to hear all about it if any fellow yelpers are. read more
