Cupcakes!!!! They will never cease to excite me. Especially ones that look exactly like the Cookie…read moreMonster. No, I'm not five years old, but every time I pass a cupcake place, I definitely act like one. Generally, I almost throw a tantrum, as cupcakes are ALWAYS overpriced. But for a good reason here - they are just that darn tasty, they could charge millions for them and I'd still buy them (well...after I've taken out a loan). Snickers, Mars Bars, red velvet, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate fudge, strawberries and cream, cookies and cream, passionfruit and cherry flavoured cupcakes. And they're huge. The actual muffin itself is moist, and quite small, but the icing more than makes up for that. Literally doubling the size of the whole cupcake. If you make the tough decision to only buy one, and not the whole shop, then definitely grab the Cookie Monster. It must have been all of that cookie eating in his life which has made him delightfully tasty!

Not quite as good as some I've had, but very yummy (if pricey) all the same. My one real grump was with the service, I joined another customer in looking at the display, but the sales girl stayed seated until we asked her assistance.

5 stars for subtle and stylish use of copper throughout the interior fit out. Yes, I adore copper…read morethat much. Copper accents aside, you might know the faces behind this new suburban cafe from their work at Dandelion & Driftwood just a suburb over. And while D&D is firmly entrenched in Brisbane's specialty coffee scene, Queen of Pops, with its aesthetically pleasing typography, feels like a more grown up D&D. She's chic and refined. It is clear attention to detail was given to every step of the cafe design. But you want the 411 on the coffee, pops and menu, right? Well, much like D&D, Queen of Pops operates on a tightly edited menu of cafe classic. Bagels, toasties and a selection of sweet treats. Yes, the baked cheese cake carries across and there's new additions like gingerbread biscuits in cute cutouts. The Pop in the name refers to their specially crafted coffee ice pops. They're made on a double ristretto and the beans are roasted by Peter Wolff himself. I tried my best to man up to a popsicle on this chilly Brisbane day but left it for another visit. Instead, my cafe chasing friend and I opted for traditional flat whites (all served in take-away cups) and a jam filled donut each. There's a small deck to enjoy your coffee from and blankets to wrap yourself in to ward of the winter winds. On a sunny day this will be the perfect spot to soak up some rays while plotting world domination. If you note the beer tap looking device on the counter next to the copper custom coffee machines you've found their on-tap nitro brewed tea and coffee. Adding these to the list for the next visit. With ample street parking in the side streets to this cafe, there's no excuse to leave the CBD and surrounds to venture to Clayfield and check out the newest member for this Brisbane Coffee Royal Family.

Queen of Pops is a little coffee bar from the same team as Dandelion and Driftwood. They have a small menu featuring bagels and a selection of sweets. I had banana bread and a latte (in a takeaway cup which incidentally I took home because I loved the branding). The banana bread was absolutely delicious and the coffee was packed full of flavour and warmth. It was a freezing Brisbane day so I only sat on their deck to quickly scoff my banana bread but in summer I feel like it will be an amazing spot to sit and try one of their signature coffee pops or nitro coffee. Absolutely somewhere I would revisit for a coffee and snack on the go.

They are now conveniently located in the Geebung complex of shops, right across the road from the Geebung Train station. Pop over for a quick coffee before heading to your train, or grab a pack of biscuits on your way to work and surprise your office :) There is plenty of parking in front or up the side street. The owners, Paul and Annie make a range of delicious, melt-in-your-mouth biscuits made with real butter, not margarine. You can taste the difference. Not only do they have this Espresso bar and retail store, but they also sell their biscuits to wholesale clients. Their shortbread sell in 12 packs for $7 and 24 packs for $14. If you stop in for a coffee you can grab a couple of individual biscuits to enjoy there. The flavours on offer are always changing, but some of my favourites are Thai Banana & Manuka Honey, White Choc & Macadamia, Strawberry Chia Seed and Lavender, Quince & Lemon. Shortbread biscuits are their speciality, and they also sell Melting Moments, Petits Fours and gluten free Macaroons.
