So this is a hidden gem that i almost dont want to review; almost dont want people to know about…read moreit. As a trye yelper however i have to share this find! Competitive swimming pool open daily free of charge to all. When was the last time you had a nice swim for as long as you wanted for free? Like try never! Pool is clean, yes slightly dated but so well maintained. Went there today from 11am to 12, guess how many people there were on all 6 lanes? 4people! By the time i was done: there were 2 left. Yes, location sucks and really this is for people from Newark, Harrison and perhaps Karney to enjoy. Showers are dated and not all work; bring your own hair dryer. But all that doesn't bother me since i can just go home and be there in 5min. Also excellent for kids since they do have baby and toddler depths available. They plan to close it for 15 days renovation but will reopen in Nov. Also i am looking forward to their ice rink hours. Will be available later in fall. Again kids classes avaible for free (from what i hear). All in all i am impressed and will come back!

This is a great municipal pool! Spacious and doesn't feel too crowded even on busy days & holiday…read moreweekends when you can hardly find parking (though the parking lot is quite large). There are a few picnic tables and grills on the lawn. No pool lounge chairs or towel service so bring your own chairs, picnic blankets, food/snacks and other accoutrements to enjoy a leisurely summer day. Facilities are clean and well-maintained. Very kids/toddler-friendly. The sizeable shallow end has several sprinklers/splash fountains for children to play in, and there are slides on both the kiddie and adult sides. Also a playground in the back (not affiliated with the pool). There are always many life guards on duty every time I've gone. The pool is accessible only to Clarkstown residents and their guests, so if you're not a resident befriend someone who is. You must obtain a Clarkstown resident ID card first at the registration office at 31 Zukor Road in New City. (The pool won't simply accept a driver's license.) Rates can be either daily or seasonal for individuals or family, and are very reasonable compared to similar community pools.

Back in the day we used to refer to this beleaguered mud hole as "Nanuet Snake" for the inundation…read moreof various slithering creatures who would join you on your swim in what was then a dark and unknowable crater that had more in common with Loch Ness than 20th century suburbia. It's no exaggeration that these monsters from the deep probably kept a legion of child psychiatrists in full time employment. On a recent visit it was nice to see that the previous snake-ridden den of iniquity has long been been replaced with a legitimate pool and that the mythological beasts of years past have been slayed by chlorine and actual cement walls. You can even see right to the bottom. What a concept. This is what Nanuet Lake should have been like all along... no thanks whatsoever to my parents who thought this was some tough love version of Shangri La, albeit minus the all consuming bliss one often finds in paradise. I kid about my parents (almost) and am happy to bestow five easy stars for a childhood reclaimed. I still hate snakes.

A Pool Where You Can Relax on the Grass…read more The Morris Plains Community Park Pool has some nice amenities: Swimming Lanes, Water Slide, 2 Diving Boards, Wading Pool, Grassy Areas, 2 Stationary Canopies, Men's & Women's rooms, and a Basketball Court. The Wading Area was gated and seemed relatively safe for little ones to play while supervised. The turtle and flower fountains were definitely something to see. The main pool was sectioned off into 3 main areas. The far end of the pool next to the Wading Area was set up for general play which included a little water basketball hoop. The center of the pool was set up use of the water slide, diving boards, and swimming lanes. The street side of the pool was set up for leisurely wading/swimming. Pros: The Pool Slide was fun and felt like it was shooting you out into the pool at top speed by the time you got to the bottom of it. The Wading Area was super cute. The grass lawns where you could set up some of your own chairs offered a sense of being at home or at the park. Cons: Even with the daily highs in the mid 80s for the past few days, the water was freezing. My family was all shivering even though we were swimming around in the water. The pool surface texturing inside the water occasionally felt like it was raking your feet instead of providing any kind of traction. The staff decided to clean the Men's changing room before the patrons were gone which caused it to be unavailable for use for more than 15 minutes. It was also left in soaked state which made it impossible to change out of one's wet clothes and into dry clothes in any kind safe or satisfactory feeling way. It was nice to visit for a few hours, but I don't think this will be the primary pool that my family visits during pool season.
