From the main, 10-lane, Olympic-sized competition pool to warm-up lap and training pools, there's a range of programs and facilities for a wide variety of skill levels. We visited recently for the Rebels Meters Mania swim meet, and one of the highlights was the digital scoreboard, which displayed each swimmer's name, lane and heat time. I was also amazed to see the meet livestreamed on the event's YouTube channel, which allowed for distant family members to watch our kids swim. The only downside was the ear-splitting dance music blared at the audience before and sometimes during the meet, which triggered my Apple Watch high-decibel alert. Attending a swim meet shouldn't put one's family at risk of hearing loss. Swim meets are naturally loud events, with concrete and water surfaces exhibiting maximum acoustic reflective properties, so there's little reason to add to that characteristic. Watch from the upstairs viewing rooms or bring ear protection, and consider keeping small children at home, in order to protect from the nightclub-like audio environment.

Note, it's not the kind that offers artisanal twists on surf cuisine or anything fancy, just good, old-school summer treats, as well as burgers and the like. Memberships don't come cheap, although on a per-use basis, a summer pass could potentially mean your family of four can splash around all summer long for under $2 a day. Guests are welcome, although that comes at a slightly steeper cost. Nighttime entertainment also offers local adults a reason to come back after the kids have been sent off to sleep. The only possible thing missing is poolside cocktail service, although I'm fine with its omission since this is a family-friendly recreational establishment and not a singles pick-up scene. After searching for a month for a reasonably priced gym with group exercise classes in Summit, I…read morefinally settled on Summit YMCA.The first reason I love this gym is that you can apply for financial assistance if you are eligible, which has really helped me out with the membership fee. Now onto the classes. If you are looking for challenging "boot camp" style group classes, I absolutely love the Body Shred and Les Mills GRIT classes that Sonya teaches. They are AMAZING and pretty difficult, but you can do modifications to the exercises. I swear I have gotten visibly stronger after a month of doing these classes twice a week. I also love Friday Bootcamp with Hillary, because the class is challenging and she times each group of exercises along with songs, which is really engaging. The gym itself has great amenities and equipment. There are a bunch of high quality cardio equipment, notably they have the Woodway curve treadmills which are awesome. I also love that they have showers, a suana, and free day lockers. The one complaint I have with the gym is that there is not enough room for me to do exercises on the floor with weights. The weight room has very little floor room, and is typically packed with guys when I go to the gym after work and I am a woman, which makes me uncomfortable taking up space in there to do my exercises. Otherwise, there is space for like 5 people in the cardio rotunda upstairs but you aren't allowed to bring weights up there and there are usually a bunch of people there taking up all the room. So the only downside about the gym is that there isn't much free space for me to do exercises.
