Gym is ok usually but subpar in quality (and quantity) of machines and trainers. Pool is amazing and water exercise is good as is lap swim.

After searching for a month for a reasonably priced gym with group exercise classes in Summit, I…read morefinally settled on Summit YMCA.The first reason I love this gym is that you can apply for financial assistance if you are eligible, which has really helped me out with the membership fee. Now onto the classes. If you are looking for challenging "boot camp" style group classes, I absolutely love the Body Shred and Les Mills GRIT classes that Sonya teaches. They are AMAZING and pretty difficult, but you can do modifications to the exercises. I swear I have gotten visibly stronger after a month of doing these classes twice a week. I also love Friday Bootcamp with Hillary, because the class is challenging and she times each group of exercises along with songs, which is really engaging. The gym itself has great amenities and equipment. There are a bunch of high quality cardio equipment, notably they have the Woodway curve treadmills which are awesome. I also love that they have showers, a suana, and free day lockers. The one complaint I have with the gym is that there is not enough room for me to do exercises on the floor with weights. The weight room has very little floor room, and is typically packed with guys when I go to the gym after work and I am a woman, which makes me uncomfortable taking up space in there to do my exercises. Otherwise, there is space for like 5 people in the cardio rotunda upstairs but you aren't allowed to bring weights up there and there are usually a bunch of people there taking up all the room. So the only downside about the gym is that there isn't much free space for me to do exercises.

Good place to learn to swim but connection nearby has a better pool. Great gym. Many good programs.read more

I went there before my surgery because my back has just been soo soo tense and I wanted to loosen it up before being bed ridden. I had Natasha (sorry if I spelled wrong). I got a 30 minute targeted massage which was amazing. She moved all the tense and pressure points all around until it loosened. I definitely understood what she was doing. I've had many different types of massages but this was perfect. I told her I just wanted my back, no legs or arms. She was really nice and gave a lot of information that I am now curious in. The vibe of the place is silent like a library but so welcoming and comforting. So many gemstones too to look at. I will definitely go back once my doctor gives me the ok.

I struggled this evening with posting about one of the lamest massages I've had in my life…read more Struggle over. I worried that a business struggles to make it in this economy. I worried that perhaps the "therapist" just had an off day. Then it hit me. Who's going to worry about new customers coming here and shelling out $150 for an hour's worth of mediocre tepid substandard whatever this was? I will. What about my endless long work hours that would shock most people, coming to this place for a decent massage to relieve the bad body effects of extreme overwork but walking out with zero effect? I'll worry. Not one knot found, much less kneaded out. Zero reflexology. Faking it over and over. She started off telling me - not asking me, but telling that she doesn't talk "because she listens to the body." Guess her hands were deaf. I've gotten massages for decades here in the U.S. as well as other free countries. This wasn't just a below average massage - the only massage worse than this was a masseuse in her 70's down South that after just running her hands tepidly over my skin here and there, she left after she tried selling me a Bible. They're so charming down there I couldn't get mad. And I had never returned to Bennesere until today. My prior visit, I was subjugated and subjected to -and I'm not kidding you: an hour of unwanted Russian propaganda talking points. You think I'm kidding? I'm not. That massage wasn't great either and I wasn't buying "Ukraine had it coming". So i struggled tonight with whether or not I should just write privately to them but I don't want a third wasted hour offered. It's clear they don't hire quality masseuses. It's clear they don't vet or train these people. And for $150, I don't just expect competence: I deserve it. Never again.

Equinox Summit - Dirty towels all over the workout area

We were looking at a few different towns, but I'm glad we wound up in Summit because I love going to this gym. Pros (which are significant): - Like a typical Equinox, it's large, clean, and well-maintained, with all the usual amenities (including the chilled, eucalyptus-scented towels). They wipe down the mats well in between classes. - It's less crowded than the Manhattan locations I used to frequent. It's unusual to have to wait for equipment or a shower, etc. - The classes are great--and, honestly, the main reason to join Equinox (because if you need just a place to work out, there are cheaper options). I take practically everything (except spinning), and my favorite instructors include Kelsey, Michelle, and Jennifer. (John T. is also very good, but unlike the others, I think he still doesn't know my name, even though I've been doing his classes for years.) Renee does an excellent job overseeing the group-fitness program. - I haven't done much personal training here (it's expensive), but I did have a few good sessions with Marcus (and a friend of mine has been working happily with him for years now). - The Kids Club is a wonderful resource for parents. It's so nice to work out while someone watches your kids. It's $20 for two hours, but that's a bargain given the going rate for babysitting in Summit. - A while back, I complained about the lack of a juice/snack bar. Now they have one, courtesy of Essex Squeeze--and it's great! - I also previously mentioned the lack of built-in combination locks. Now they have them. Possible improvements (some admittedly minor, some not realistic): - I wish they had a larger stretching area or additional stretching areas; the one area they do have can get crowded. - They should check the treadmills more regularly to make sure they're in good working order; too frequently you'll encounter one that wobbles a little or makes weird noises. - A larger pool, heated to a higher temperature, would be nice. - The men's bathroom could use upgrading. There are only two stalls and two urinals. I wish the stall doors were the kind that went down to the floor and indicated whether the stall was occupied. They could also be cleaned more frequently. - I also wish they had some private all-gender bathrooms (like certain other Equinoxes). - Like every Equinox, they need to upgrade their toilet paper (Charmin Ultra Strong is the way to go). - I miss the old Kiehl's products. The Grown Alchemist cleanser doesn't lather or rinse off well, and its lotion doesn't get absorbed easily. (But replacing Kiehl's with Grown Alchemist was a company-wide decision.)

This location is ok. I like that everything is on one floor. Front desk staff is very hospitable…read more The barre studio does not offer the triple bar and this does not help barre classes to run as smoothly as some of the other classes at other locations. Locker rooms are quite small and filtration system can be improved for the drinking water. It is not as cold and does have a funny after taste. Wish they offered some outdoor benches to sit outside to enjoy a smoothie from the juice bar.

A few of my girlfriends tried the BSK location, then some of my daughter's friends moms wanted to try as well. We came 15mins before class (as advised) so we can get a tour of place and how things run before taking class. They have bathrooms (with a shower) coat racks and lockers to place your belongings while in class. The staff and coaches were very friendly! We've had the pleasure of taking almost all the coaches and every class is different, every coach style is unique but they give you the individualized attention and motivation you need during class. The first class was an intense workout but I ended up taking advantage of their first month $99 promotion and plan on continuing. I love the way I feel especially after each class knowing that I was able to accomplish it, from the "assault" bike to the ski mill, ski erg to the erg rowing machine. I live for the community - the camaraderie feel. It gives me the Orange Theory meets CrossFit vibe. 100% give it a try, you will feel as if they rocked your world after the class but I can guarantee you- you will be back.
