From the main, 10-lane, Olympic-sized competition pool to warm-up lap and training pools, there's a range of programs and facilities for a wide variety of skill levels. We visited recently for the Rebels Meters Mania swim meet, and one of the highlights was the digital scoreboard, which displayed each swimmer's name, lane and heat time. I was also amazed to see the meet livestreamed on the event's YouTube channel, which allowed for distant family members to watch our kids swim. The only downside was the ear-splitting dance music blared at the audience before and sometimes during the meet, which triggered my Apple Watch high-decibel alert. Attending a swim meet shouldn't put one's family at risk of hearing loss. Swim meets are naturally loud events, with concrete and water surfaces exhibiting maximum acoustic reflective properties, so there's little reason to add to that characteristic. Watch from the upstairs viewing rooms or bring ear protection, and consider keeping small children at home, in order to protect from the nightclub-like audio environment.

My 4 year…read moreold boy with a very short attention span has been taking lessons once a week since August 2023. A lesson is 30 minutes long and there is usually one instructor teaching 4 kids and the last 5 minutes the instructor gives the parents the update. So technically, each kid gets about 6 minutes per lesson. Just like learning everything else, if you want your kids to do well, you have to then practice during the week. The staff is always nice and helpful. His instructor is very patient and is very good with kids and getting them to do things. The pool is heated and lessons are all year round. I don't have any complaints but just know your kids are only getting about 6 minutes per week. You just have to be patient and teach your kids on the side. They will get there eventually.

Anthony stuck by her side, letting her pour water on his head. By week two, she was in the water, but scared. She held onto him for dear life, but Anthony was patient and kind. The pool area and water are heated and the water doesn't smell of harsh chemicals--all of which is great given that babies can be very sensitive. My daughter's teachers, Orlando and Alivia, are both fantastic instructors who are patient and help the little ones overcome any fears of the water. They slowly and gradually build up new skills, preventing the development of water-phobias. Also, the small class sizes mean that there is plenty of one-on-one attention directly between the teacher and students, so I really feel that she gets a lot out of each class. Thanks to them my daughter loves the water and is well on her way to becoming a safe swimmer.

I then found the Berkeley Aquatic Center in New Providence which offers water therapy. It has been working out wonderfully for me. There's only two people max in the pool. Everyone must wear a mask at all times, and we practice social distancing even in the water. My instructor is right there at pool side giving instructions. Myself and the other attendee take turns using the equipment. The pool has a full set of stairs with rails, so for me getting in and out of the water was not as difficult as a regular pool's set of stairs.It is extremely relaxing because the water is very calming to the body. I had to call first from my car to let the front desk know I arrived. Then I would be met by a worker at the front door, and then they would do a temperature check on me. Once good, I would then proceed to the pool.There is a locker room/ bathroom with showers and a changing area. I just bring a bag and a change of clothes and keep it with me, I could lock it up if I choose to. My sessions would last 45 minutes to an hour depending upon the day. The pool water temperature is kept at 85° at all times.They have a built in treadmill, along with arm weights and noodles, and other pool equipment to get a complete workout. There is a platform with a step down until a little bit deeper water. When I started I could hardly move. By the time I completed a few sessions I was able to start on the treadmill. I could feel myself getting stronger and stronger with each session. It is so much easier to exercise in a pool when your body is in pain. My body felt weightless !. It doesn't hurt like it did when I did traditional PT. My physical therapist Jamie was wonderful. She was extremely patient, very pleasant, and she really was in tune with what I would say to her in regards to my pain. Every session was different. Jamie also gave me some exercises to do at home. This is the best I felt in months. The Berkeley Aquatic Center has a full size pool where they give swim lessons to young kids. Right now due to Covid it has been kept closed. They take most insurances, you need to have a script from your doctor to attend. Every week I look forward to my sessions.When it ends I'm going to feel sad. . I highly recommend water therapy for anyone looking for an alternative to traditional therapy .

There is a decent cafe to grab a bite to eat. The early childhood center ranges from part-time pre-school to full time care. There is even an after school program for kids in the local West Orange and Livingston school systems. Just a solid community center. Our child was incredibly blessed to have incredible teachers who loved and cared for our child during that time. Each classroom was truly filled with love and patience and I do not want the rest of this review to underscore those incredible teachers in my child's classrooms. With that said, As our child approached the age of 3, they received an autism diagnosis. The JCC metro west staff was notified of this diagnosis. 2 weeks after informing the staff of our child's diagnosis, our child was exited from the ECC program with less than 24 hours' notice. Regardless of the circumstances, giving a family less than a day's notice to find alternative childcare is incredibly disruptive and, in our experience, showed a lack of compassion and partnership. As parents, we trusted this program to work with us through challenges. Instead, we were left scrambling overnight to figure out childcare, work obligations, and next steps for our child. The emotional and logistical impact on our family was significant. What disappointed us most was not simply the decision itself, but how it was handled. Families deserve clear communication, transparency, and enough notice to make arrangements--especially when young children are involved. If your child has developmental differences or may require additional support, I encourage you to have detailed conversations about the program's ability and willingness to accommodate those needs before enrolling. Our experience left us feeling unsupported during one of the most difficult periods our family has faced. I hope the JCC reviews its policies and communication practices so that no other family experiences the same abrupt transition that we did.

We came here and in 3 days Luis and his coaches were able to make her lose her fear of diving. NJ Sea Dragons recently opened and after being in many swim schools throughout the year, I highly recommend this swim school over any others. They break down every stroke to teach the little details and they work on endurance during every practice. Luis is a USA swimming professional coach and his team is excellent. If you are interested in your kids swimming professionally, give them a try!!
