We stayed at the firefly for 1 night for a quick girls trip. It was $124 a night, now it has increased to $134. I feel the price is a bit high as the amenities offered are the same as the regular cabins ($80-$85 per night). The firefly did just recently add a window AC unit and one electric plug prior to our stay. There are no lights so a lantern is still needed. We didn't use the charcoal grill as it was rusted, we opted for cooking on the fire instead. They do not allow outside firewood and they charge $7 a bag for wood and $5 for kindling. Unfortunately their firewood was very thinly chopped, maybe 1-2 inch slivers so the firewood didn't last long. The shower and bathrooms were clean and close to the campsite which we enjoyed. The area felt very safe. Though there appeared to be a ring camera with lights just above the open showers which I found a bit odd, I assume it was pointing to the other side of the building. Easily accessible dumpster and water for cooking/washing dishes. Parking is very hard to come by so if you bring more than one vehicle this may be a problem. The cabin was well kept, clean and comfy mattresses. Lights didn't work on the upper balcony but we enjoyed the lower deck. The only thing I found off putting were over kill on signage around the campsite. Quiet hours with a $250 fine for noises past 11pm or before 7am, signs regarding usage of amenities .... It appeared they didn't really want you using too many resources. Overall, we really enjoyed the cabin, the addition of the AC was great, facility was well kept, but I felt it was over priced. read more

I absolutely loved camping here this weekend. My husband and I stayed in the Firefly cabin. It was by far the coolest cabin I have ever seen. It had 2 queen sized beds in bunk bed form, and a cool loft which could fit a queen sized blow up, or some bean bag chairs. The wood burning stove cooked our food well, with some experimenting. The stove definitely does a great job heating the cabin too. Oh did I mention it is pet friendly? They have showers and toilets too attached to the front office building. Had an incredible time here at the campground. Only stayed for one night (will stay longer next time) but it was such an experience. The staff there were extremely friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. They even helped sort out the car situation we had by allowing us to park the car at a lower campsite since nobody was using it. (Our campsite needed a 4x4 truck to make it up the rocky hill. I have a 2018 Honda Civic). Our neighbors nearby were pleasant and there were so many places nearby you can go to. They have a small shop where you can buy firewood, charcoal, lamps, bug spray and anything else you might need. Showers and bathrooms are located at the office. As far as camp grounds go, and I don't know many except Goshen Scout Reservation... I'd say this one is is pretty nice. Outdoor showers make for the whole wrap around camping experience. Bathrooms not to far away from the campsite. Grills in each camp site. Substantial fire rings. We were on a campsite that was on the side of a large hill called the Tee Pee camp ground. Next time we go here, which I plan to, I'm gonna try to reserve one of the others.. they have more shade and some even have little pavillions. But, this is what we get for reserving it last second in one of those campiest weeks of the summer- I'd say. Sit around a campfire and drink - check Take insanely long time to build that fire - check A few mosquito bites - check Get very little sleep on the ground - check make a smore with 4 marshmallows in it - check I think it was a pretty successful camping excursion read more

Saw a write of this campground from my Urban Daddy app and suggested it to my son's Cub Scout leader as a fun place to camp for the pack. Many kids in our pack had never been camping before and this looked like a good place to have that first camping experience--especially since the tree-house style cabins got the kids excited to go camping. Christine R's review of the place is spot on. Not much to add other than I agree with Corine P's comment about the office being a bit creepy. For you movie buffs, this place is not too far from where The Blair Witch Project was filmed...or so I'm told. We had a large group camped next to us who had the "ninja visit" for making too much noise after "quiet time." Not rowdy, just loud--but not as loud as 10 Cub Scouts had been just a few hours earlier... We stayed here at the Hickory Cabin in early March (5 people), and were warm despite the recent snow storm mostly due to the wood burning stove, although we did appreciate the help of the propane heater that we brought along the cabin was cute and came with mattresses which was nice, so we brought sheets and sleeping bags to sleep on top of them with. The stove was very warm once we got the fire going, and we brought pots and pans to cook on top of it with which worked out well. There's hiking nearby, and Harper's Ferry is a nice town to explore. All in all it was a very fun stay, a cute cabin to sleep and eat in, and we will definitely be coming back. The owners are super nice and helped us push back our stay by a day so we wouldn't have to worry about driving out in the snow storm that was taking place the day we were supposed to get there. read more

Went to visit a friend in Maryland and camped here with some friends. First of all the camp office was creepy as hell. It was like walking into a scene of chainsaw texas massacre(may be a little harsh). But seriously, the office was dim, dirty, and unkempt. There was a living room set in the middle of their office. A man, which appeared to be the owner of the facility, was sitting and watching TV - Al Bundy style. I thought this was pretty unwelcoming. Camping-wise, the grounds were ok. They provide you with a grill and a pit if you just rent a tent site. You have to pay for your own wood which is stupid because they had a stack of wood out in the open which I saw other campers steal from. We did not stay in the treehouse so I cannot speak for those facilities. One good thing was that the bathrooms were clean. They are very (i emphasize VERY) strict with the quiet hours. They start at 11pm. My friends and I were all sitting by the campire a little past 11pm when a gentlemen who we suspect was the owner, approached us ninja-style from the dark and told us to keep our "gut busters" to a minimum because he didn't want to get complaints in the morning of how other campers could not sleep. I applaud his pro-activeness but ater he left, we noticed that all the other campers around us were still up and awake. I don't think I would go back to this camp site. I would rather camp in my parent's back yard. There were a few groups of children at the camp ground so perhaps this would be a good place for families or younger kids who have a 9pm curfew. We camped here during a little trip that me and the SO planned out. We wanted a place where we could make a reservation, since we were kind of playing the first day by ear. Our trip was to see Harper's Ferry in West Virginia and a big second day in Antietam in Sharpsburg, MD. Maple Tree Campground is located quite conveniently between both historical parks and was a breeze to book over the phone. Upon our arrival, the office was getting ready to close up- we were not aware that it would close by 5, but it was ok. Inside the office it looks like it was fully stock with many sundries you would need for camping- supplies, pantry items/food, tee shirts, souveniers, etc. There was also an area to watch movies, which probably get utilize on busier weekends. The owner was very friendly in setting us up, and let us know about the port o john issue at the nearest one to our campsite (busy weekend, the heat, gets cleaned on wednesdays- it was tuesday: you get the picture) and provided us with all the info we needed. Our campsite was named 'Ram' and the one furthest away from everyone else- we did ask for a secluded campsite! The campsite itself was spacious, with two picnic tables, a large fire pit, a grill, and a smaller pit for cooking. We were able to find a suitable place for our tent. The place was great for our needs- we were basically camping to save us money, which it did. You aren't allowed to bring in your own firewood, so plus the firewood bundle we bought and our campsite, our bill was a little over $35.00. The campsite itself is made up of several types of site- a field to set up teepees, larger treehouses/ cabins on stilts, smaller tree houses, and then small and large tent camping sites. We did wish we were able to check out our campsite before settling in, but maybe if we came in earlier, we would be able to do so- the owner did say when we booked that if we needed to we could swap since it was a weekday. There are restrooms located in the office house- very clean, the only con was that it was faraway from our actual site, but you are able to use portable toliets (we didn't due to her warning) or just the use the woods (enough privacy). there are also two showers that are outdoors, and even though there were a good amount of people staying there, we only had to wait in the morning for one to open up, and they are big enough to share with your SO to save time (and water!). there is also a water pump with drinkable water and a sink/cleaning area for your dishes. All in all it was a great place, and it was our first time booking with a private campground- we usually go by way of state parks and the like. The terrain/roads in the park are quite rocky, but we managed in our coupe well enough. Also, there were several families staying at the site, but each campsite is secluded enough from each other, we did not hear any noise at night, or felt that we were super crowded. being that we camped on the evening between two of the hottest days of the summer thus far, the campground provided a great stay for our needs. read more

My partner and I decided to stay at Maple Tree at the last minute and we were surprised that we were able to book a cottage on such short notice. This doesn't seem like it's the norm, though. Must have been a combination of the weather and season! I highly recommend this campground. I've gone camping several times throughout my childhood and I have never been to a campground like this. Please don't believe the bad reviews on here. First, the camp store is not "creepy," as some have said. It's very welcoming and I liked the environment. Rachael was very helpful and let us borrow some lanterns for the cottage. Btw--if you decide to come here, don't forget to pack those! Second of all, I really don't understand why so many people have complained about the quiet hours. It's not about not having fun--it's about respecting people around you. The owner, Louise, who was also very helpful with advice on how to use the wood stove, obviously just wants people to have a good time in a comfortable environment. If you can't respect the families with children or the people who came camping for peace and quiet, then you shouldn't go camping. Now that that's cleared up, we really enjoyed our stay there. It was raining, but we still had a lot of fun and actually enjoyed staying indoors. The wood stove is great for cooking. If you have a Dutch oven, all you have to do is place it on top and it slow cooks your food really well! We cooked chili and skillet cornbread :) Apparently there is great hiking nearby so i wish we got to experience that, but I'm happy with our experience overall. The cottages are a great fall getaway. I was so excited that my bf booked us a get away in a tree cottage! We stayed in a cottage with a wood stove and it was amazing. The pure quietness of being in the woods within two hours of Annapolis is just awesome. Its very cheap to stay here about $40-$60/night. The only catch is that you have a common bathroom and running water. You don't have your own sinks or toilets or electricity! So bring candles! Its the perfect place for a semi-roughing it camping experience. This campground is really close an entrance to the Appalachian Trail and within 15 min of Harper's Ferry. We love it so much here that we are planning our wedding at this campground. Stand by for an updated review for our wedding! read more

Six friends and I recently stayed in a newer treehouse (The Bonsai) for one night for a bachelor party. To address some of the concerns other reviewers have mentioned: - I did not find the office creepy or off-putting in the least. - The roads are quite bumpy -- I wouldn't say they require an all-wheel-drive vehicle, as my friend managed in his Honda Fit, but the ride wasn't exactly comfortable and more than once the underside of his vehicle got slammed with something. - We did not have any issues with the "quiet police" others have mentioned, but we were also in the cabin and mostly quiet by 11 PM. It's hard to assess how much of a problem it would have been had we stayed outside. - We went through four bundles of firewood for a fire starting at around 6 PM and the wood stove through the night. The cabin was really nice -- in great shape, and the mattresses seemed nice (I ended up on the floor because of space constraints). The wood stove kept us very toasty -- too toasty, actually! We had to open the windows to cool off a bit. Overall we had a good experience. The area is beautiful and the campground is pretty well maintained. I had lots of chats with the staff in the planning process and when we were there, and everyone was consistently friendly and helpful. I will definitely be staying here again next time I'm looking for a comfy but natural camping experience. read more

You will most likely hear lots of kids. The place is a bit out there and .8 miles away is mcDonalds and Sheetz. We felt secure since we wernt exactly in the middle of no where but far enough that we got a chance to enjoy nature. The staff was soo friendly and they take very good care of the grounds, as the camp grounds were clean. This place is perfect for first time campers. If you're going with a group, carpool because on-site parking is limited. And leave the smaller sedans in the city because the roads are rather bumpy/muddy. Bring plenty of bug spray in the summer. Okay, I just had to write a review for this campground! A group of 6 of us went over the weekend of October 21, 2011 for some "camping lite." Two of our group had never been camping, and the rest of us hadn't been camping for years, so we chose a campground with a bathroom and showers. We chose to stay in one of the rustic Tree houses. It was definitely an adventure! We found out about Maple Tree campground through their website, and had not seen the cabins in person. We wanted to rent one of the cottages (that have wood burning stoves), but apparently those fill up FAST for the cooler months. We tried booking a couple months in advance and all the Cottages and newer rustic treehouses were already reserved. I'd advise trying to book a couple seasons (or a year) in advance if you want to nab a toasty cabin. Overall, our camping experience was really fun -- lovely campground on the forested hill, nice firepit, very clean restroom facilities. The camp store is pleasant enough. It's a bit like a cozy, one story farmhouse converted to a small shop with canned goods, firewood, and frozen meats. Note that they don't have eggs, bacon, or milk at the store, so do bring your own if you want that sort of breakfast. The camp owners were sweet, and have an easygoing cat named Mister Bigfoot. When you visit, he may be napping in his bed on the windowsill. Now a bit more about our experience. It was an unseasonably cold weekend, so we layered up and wrapped up tight in our cabin when it was time to sleep. The sleeping arrangements listed on the Maple Tree website are not entirely accurate as of 11-4-11: "Smaller tree houses are $43 a night for up to 4 people, $10 for each person over 4." Correct, but when we checked in, the caretaker remarked that it would be a tight fit for us in that cabin. "Six are small, with one double and 4 single bunks, designed for families. " We reserved Oriole for 6 people (site says it maxes out at 6 people when you book). We could certainly fit 6 people in the cabin, but the layout of Oriole is definitely two bunked doubles and two twin size sleeping areas. It worked out okay for us since we were a group of 3 couples, but it may be a wee bit awkward if you have one couple and four singles who think they'll have their own space! :D Also, the top double bunk has the screened in windows all around. It would be nice and breezy in the summertime, but in the winter, the ventilation may not be quite as welcome. We hung a tarp to block out some of the chilly breeze for sleeping. I stayed in the top bunk with my husband, and we were fine with our sleeping bags, foam pads, and extra blanket (for my chilly feet). I remember thinking the treehouse would have some sort of common floorspace -- maybe where everyone could sit on the floor and play a boardgame, or at least where you could set down a lantern to light the space. That is definitely not the case, as the house is quite small, really just sleeping quarters only. I would definitely recommend calling the camp office to discuss your group before you book if you haven't stayed there before. It *does* advise that on the site now --perhaps it always did. It's good advice. One BIIIIIG caveat for anyone camping in the rustic tree houses in the Autumn: Tin Roof + Falling Acorns = ear splitting gunshot sound that will wake you in the middle of the night. REPEATEDLY. It was one of the most freakish sleeping experiences I've had in my life. Now it's a hilarious, wacky memory for me, but on that first, windy night, it was a very disconcerting attempt at getting some shut-eye. Get a cottage/cabin with a shingle roof (even some of the older treehouses appear to have shingles), sleep in a tent outside, or use earplugs. Even with earplugs, you can still hear the acorn-gunshots. Eek. Despite the acorn peltings in Oriole treehouse, I really enjoyed our stay at Maple Tree Campground, and I give it four out of five stars. It was a memorable, fun experience: hanging out with friends, singing songs around the fire, going on a short hiking trip on the nearby Appalachian trail. I would definitely like to visit again. read more

Our treehouse was small, but perfect for the 2 of us and our area seemed so secluded even being surrounded by other campers. I was up both nights waaayyyy past 11pm, listening to music & talking with my fiancé and we never had any issues with the quiet time. Just be conscience of how loud you are being...you can have a good time without disturbing everyone else...we certainly did! All in all, great campground & would recommend it to others for sure! Overall, the experience was okay except that I wanted the cottage experience which comes with mattress. I booked through their website which is deceiving so do not use it. Best book by phone. The only difference between the cottage and treehouse is the mattresses. I also thought it was way up high up in a tree. Hence the name treehouse, but it's not. I guess I watched the Treehouse Master show too much and this is nothing like it. It was my first time going so I have no clue which ones are the treehouse and which are the cottages. The lady whom I spoke with said that I needed to be careful when I booked. When I explained to her I clicked on the "Cottage Reservation" it gave me a list and I assumed are the cottages otherwise why would you have separate link to three kinds of reservations. Upon arrival to my disappointment I found out the bedding did not include any mattresses so I was forced to sleep on wooden beds. I booked for three nights but only stayed for two due to how uncomfortable it was. They tried to tell me I can go to the nearby Walmart and get the air mattress and she would buy it from me when I'm done, but I'm on vacation plus I have plans to do and going out of my way to buy air mattresses isn't one of them. Jeremy the caretaker there was sweet and gave me a yoga mat like so at least one of us was kind of comfortable. They also gave us two bags of free wood. But I'm also noticing on my bill now that I'm home they still charged me for a cottage which was most expensive but claimed I booked the treehouse. So now I need to go back and try and get some of my money back if possible. I don't think I will ever go back. It's spacious and nice but so are other campsites that I've been to. For that price I might as well go to a hotel and pay a little bit more and get a good nights rest. read more

Me and a group of friends stayed here for one night, camping out in tents on the Tipi field site. Price was reasonable at $8/person. Despite some rainy weather, we enjoyed our stay here. We had tons of open space for lawn games, with three picnic tables, a fire pit and grill, which we used for kebab dinner and smores at night. There was some noise from bring so close to the road, but at night, you mostly hear the sounds of nature chirping away. We were disturbed early morning by another group (girl was screaming and we didn't know if it was an emergency or not, found out just some drunk chick being stupid), but the campsite owner Louise was apologetic and very courteous, ensuring we enjoyed our stay at the campsite. If you're looking for a place close to Harpers Ferry (15 mins) that's a little more rustic than KOA, and close to the Appalachian Trail (we walked to it and went for a nice hike), I'd recommend this place. read more

I really liked the idea of this camp spot when I first was looking to book a place for a White Water Rafting getaway weekend. But looking back on it now, I'm beginning to think I may not have made the right decision. I can say that I appreciated the outdoor showers, the nice sized cabins, the fire pit, outdoor charcoal grill and picnic table... but as far as camping goes this is more of "glamping". Rustic in the sense that there was no electricity in the cabins but still very upscale glamorous camping. I can say though that there were quite a few things that I didn't appreciate... a) the fact that there are no "keys" for the cabins. I know Harper's Ferry to be a respectable area but when you are out in the woods and your cabin doesn't lock.. that is a concern. Also, we weren't at our cabin all Saturday morning and my concern for the security of our cabin, caused us to put our valuables back in the locked car until we returned. b) No trash cans on site. Walking the trash down to the dumpster wouldn't have been a big deal if trash bags were provided or at least listed on the site as something to bring with you. c) The website is a bit out of date, couldn't find a whole lot of information/pictures of the cabins and would have been greatly appreciated to have gotten a feel of what it was like and/or a list of things to bring. d) LASTLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - The very condescending tone we received Saturday night at exactly 11:15pm. I respect the fact that there are quite hours (which start at 11pm), which is why my friends and I started cleaning up and heading inside for the night at 10:45pm. We walked our trash down to the garbage bin near the bathrooms (since there aren't any on site) and made sure that our fire was put out. We went into our cabin and were laying in bed, setting our cell phone alarms for the following morning. One friend made a joke and we started laughing, it was at this point that we received a single knock at the door, which was immediately proceeded by the owner opening the door to our cabin and walking in without even a hesitation. Again, this goes back to the security of the individuals staying in the cabins. There SHOULD be locks on the door and someone SHOULDN'T be able to walk in as they so please. Not only were we walked in on while laying in bed but we were given a 2 minute condescending speech about quite hours and how we would be fined. Again, I apologize for laughing past quite hours and I did apologize for this but our cabin was not a rowdy bunch that needed to be reprimanded like children, by their parents at a pajama party. I have been told by a few friends that the Williamsburg KOA is relatively cheaper in price, closer to WWRafting/activities, as well as historic Harpers Ferry and doesn't have strict quite hours. If you are planning a family getaway and you plan to be quiet, I may suggest Maple Tree to you. But otherwise... I would suggest finding lodging elsewhere. Oh well.. just another story for my endless travels and experiences. read more

I recently returned from back-to-back weekends at the Maple Treehouse Camp and had a very pleasant experience. It was my sixth trip out there over the last two years and it has always been a good time. I generally go in the off-season, when colder temperatures are the norm, because a lot of other people don't. The camp is dog-friendly and I bring my three whenever I go out. There are lots of places nearby to give them a good run. The area is knee-deep in history, and the Treehouse Camp provides a very comfortable and convenient location to all the things that interest me. The Treehouse Camp is located in Crampton's Gap, on the western slope of South Mountain, overlooking Pleasant Valley. Pleasant Valley is aptly named and provides a very pretty scenic vista to the west. From October Through December, flocks of migratory geese fly over shortly after dawn. It is a nice way to greet the day. The valley itself is dotted with lots of farms and not much else to spoil the view. The Treehouse Camp offers everything that I need to have a pleasant stay in the area. I use the tree cabins when I go up, because if I wanted to pitch a tent, I would hike the Trail. While I enjoy the backcountry experience, the comforts offered by the cabins in the camp make the cold weather months much more enjoyable. The wood-burning stoves heat the cabins to well over 70 degrees. They also double as cooking surfaces. I have prepared some great meals on those stoves. It takes a bit longer, but when you are in a simple environment, everything does. It forces one to slow down and the food seems to taste that much better. The cabins offer a rustic experience, but something that any novice could be comfortable in with a little bit of preparation. What you bring will determine how comfortable you are. Knowing how to build a fire is very important to maintaining one's level of comfort. Bring lots of newspaper to get the fire going. Once the cabin starts to heat, everything is good. The cabins, both old and new alike, retain their heat well. You will have to get up in the middle of the night to restock the fire, if you hope to be toasty in the morning. The cabins differ in age, but I have had positive experiences in both the older and newer ones. I prefer one of the older ones just because it's old stove does everything so well. The quality of the beds differs from one cabin to the other, as do the sizes of the beds. Cabins sleep six (two 2-person beds and two 1-person beds). They are bunked. I bring a foam egg crate to put on top of the mattresses, which I recommend, and sleep like a baby. Flannel sheets are worth bringing in those colder months as well. There is no electricity so one needs to bring lanterns, battery-powered devices and books/games. The bathrooms and Port-a-johns are very clean and conveniently located to the cabins, and the outdoor showers, while low-flow, get the job done. The showers shut down after it starts to freeze, but there is usually an indoor one available if you need it. Each cabin has a good BBQ and fire pit outside. Sites are located far enough from one another that you don't feel like you have a neighbor, at least in the off-season. One can see a bonfire through the dark of night, but the cabins are pretty well spaced out. I have never felt crowded. Summertime crowds would bring a different experience I would imagine, but I have other accommodations out that way during those months, so I cannot say. The owner of the Treehouse Camp, and her staff, have always been very accommodating towards me when I have come out. I often arrive well after dark, and the wood for my stove is waiting for me, so I can get things going. They have been pleasant and hospitable to me on all of my visits, which is why I keep going back. For a quick drive from the city, I can wake up in a completely different environment. It is well worth the commute and the modest cost to rent a cabin. I look forward to my next trip out that way. read more

I've camped here twice in the past couple years after spending the day tubing the Potomac. It's a cute little campground on the side of a mountain in what my friends happily pointed out is Blair Witch Country. I've never stayed in the treehouses since they require a 2 night minimum during peak season, so I can't comment on them. The tent sites are scattered about the campground, and the one we stayed in last year was perfect. Easy access to parking, the bathrooms, office and outdoor showers. Enough trees between you and others to still get that 'in the woods' feeling that most campers are looking for. This year however, we waited until the week before our trip to make reservations and unfortunately ended up in what was called Teepee Field. The field essentially amounts to the side yard of the owners' house and is most definitely located on a hill. Most of the site is so slanted that it's actually impossible to imagine setting up a tent there. There is a small amount of flat-ish land at the bottom, which is where we made camp. Thankfully, because it's a lawn the ground is grassy and soft, free of roots and rocks. The facilities were nice. Bathrooms were kept clean and the private showers are located outdoors, which is an awesome experience if you've not been lucky enough to have it. The office stocks things that you may need/want for a night in the woods. Yes, they require that you buy their firewood. That is pretty standard, and anyone who gets upset about it must not go camping very often. The bundles are $8 and we went through 3 before retiring to bed at 1am. Speaking of which, we have never once been visited by this mystery man who warns campers of their noise. We stayed up late on both occasions having drinks and laughing around the fire and not once did anyone poke their nose in to say that we were being too loud. Our group the first time numbered about 10 and the second time we had 7. No complaints about noise and we were staying right beside the owners' house. Maybe they've gotten more lax or maybe the other campers were much louder than they realized. Either way, I've never had a problem this way. Overall, I'm happy with this place. It's not as crowded as the KOA and it doesn't have the manufactured feeling that persists at other campgrounds. The price is right, and the staff has always been friendly and welcoming. Next year I'll remember to make my reservations earlier so that we can get out of that field and back into the woods. read more

I recently stayed in an older tree cottage w/ my college-age sons and a friend. We found it on the internet and after a phone conversation booked our first choice of cottages (traveling mid-wk helps!!) Joane was super helpful and enthusiastic and there were really no surprises when we got to camp (except that sharp, steep turn at the entrance!) On the phone I explained my limited experience w camping and my extreme fondness of mattresses and Joanne recommended a great site for us. She also suggested some other stops in the area which were very helpful (everyone is still talking about Dan's Taproom) and opened the camp store just to sell us some hotdogs when it became clear that one pack wasn't gonna do for our ravenous crew. We found the bathrooms and cottage to be clean and well maintained. We did not get opportunity to meet Louise but based a couple notes to campers I think I'd love her. Maybe next time! read more

I love this place!! My husband and I recently booked a tree cottage (the Willow) for a weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The people who run it were very nice and welcoming. They give you a map of the area, and can point out local attractions. Someone is also "on-call" all night, in case you have to make a complaint or have an emergency. The cabin itself was adorable, with beds, a table and a wood stove. Perfect for when you want to camp, but want to be a little more comfortable than in a tent. Each treehouse site has a grill, a fire pit and picnic table. This was a great place for a romantic weekend for my husband and I, but would also be great for a group of friends wanting to camp. It seems like some reviews are complaining about quiet hours being enforced, and others about the noise caused by other campers, but I think they actually do a great job of balancing the different types of groups they get at this campsite. They have "quiet hours", which discourages people from yelling all night, but doesn't mean you can't still have fun and hang out with friends. Obviously, sometimes people will be loud anyway, but this has nothing to do with the management, just the fact that some people suck. The campground is also dog friendly, which is awesome. The only thing that could make this place better would be locks on the cabin doors, so you don't have to worry about putting all your valuables in the car. Overall, great facilities, nice people and excellent location. We will definitely be back! read more

Say the words tree house and your thoughts will likely take you back to your childhood. If you had a tree house, it was a chance for you to experience what others only imagined, read, or saw on a TV cartoon. For me, it was often climbing trees and letting my imagination run free. I never had my own tree house, but I did claim a pretty cool branch. A recent weekend of camping lead me to the rustic spaces of the Treehouse Camp at Maple Tree Campground. Although you won't find any houses on platforms actually up in the trees there, you will find cozy tree houses and cottages that are built on stilts and between 6 and 10 feet above the ground. Make your way to this campground and you'll get a bit of rustic with some conveniences you'll appreciate, like hot showers, restrooms (at the office area), ice and parking at your campsite or nearby. Their cottages have beds. If you prefer the outdoors, bring your tent. This was my second year visiting with a meetup group and I will return. It's near the Appalachian Trail, Antietam Creek and National Battlefield, Harpers Ferry, Gathland State Park and several other historic attractions. If you like a good spooky camp story, you'd be glad to know that the story of The Blair Witch movie took place up the road from the campground. read more

Remote tent sites are nice but you will need a 4wd vehicle. We hiked in, but it was worth it. It's rustic and not as plush as State Park campgrounds, but it beats the heck out of the KOA in Harper's Ferry. read more

My wife and I were backpacking on the Appalachian Trail in Maryland last fall, and decided we would rather stay in a regular campground than take a chance on springs being dry at the trailside campsites. We picked Maple Tree after searching the area because they offered tree house accomodations. (The treehouses are actually small cabins jutting out over a steep slope and resting on sturdy wood framing). We gave an ETA, but got behind on our hiking pace. Tried to contact the office, but could not get a cell signal. We were more than an hour late getting to Crampton Gap, and the owner became worried about us. He drove up to the gap and hiked northbound until he found us! Our cabin was well kept up and a delightful place to spend the night. Restrooms were clean and not far from the cabin. Would highly recommend it to hikers, as it is less than 1/2 mile from the AT at Crampton Gap. Car campers will love it as well. read more

This treehouse campground was a lot of fun. About $62 a night is fitting. We stayed 2 nights. We had the Blackbird treehouse. It was Very rustic and this was why we chose it. We had called first to make reservations and by our needs and wants Rachael recommended Blackbird. Two adults and my two kids. The treehouse itself and setting was nice! Inside the TH I had to LOL because of our bedding! It was like troughs stacked up on top of each other..Also the trunk of a tree ran right through the middle! Other than that there was nothing else in there..which we did know and plan on...perfect! There is a nice firepit and an impressive charcoal grill there also. Porta potties all over.. Nice clean bathrooms and showers at the check in house. Very nice people working there too. Not one problem like stated in the other reviews at all. This also backed to the A.T. which we hiked only for about two miles since it was late evening. Great place. Different and fun! read more

My fiancé and I stayed over Labor Day weekend at one of the smaller tent sites the armadillo. We arrived late on Saturday evening and were greeted by Joanne. The office was a little off putting but Joanne offered a warm welcome and was very helpful. The next morning she gave us advice on a great little swimming hole that we loved! We enjoyed the outdoor showers and the well placed porta pots. We stayed up past 11 and never had any of the staff come up to us. Yes you have to buy your wood there but right now that is every maryland campsite. We can't wait to come back!!!!!! read more

My wife and I camped here in the stack of winter, January, 2011. First, Louise the owner/manager was exquisite. I mean e-x-q-u-i-s-t-e!!! I'm certain that's the first sign any camper ought to look out for a fun camp time. My wife and I lodged in Cypress Cottage, recommended by Louise among many other nice winter cottages. We got there at about 8pm, the security gentleman received us in the office. The cozy rustic design of the office reassured us that the management is far experienced in camping business, hence fear no complications. (One reviewer's comment about the office is as ridiculous. If any reasonable camper were to choose between an "all glass, platinum furnished office with only a laptop and flatscreen tv," or a comely cottage office-house with snacks, emergency kits, and other camping utilities, we bet the latter. The cottages are affordable! The cottages are cozy for the season, just buy enough bags of firewood per number of nights and/or use. We bought two bags for two nights. I enjoyed my wife, my wife enjoyed me. We enjoyed the place... I highly recommend this all-year campground and I recommend speaking with Louise. She has a enchanting spirit and voice. read more

Our Boy Scout troop liked this camp ground. We camped here because it was so close to the Appalachian Trail. Our camp out was in mid-March, and the weather was mild. The scouts and some adults camped in the generous sized Tepee field - we had more than 20 tents. I stayed in one of the tree cottages. Camp staff was helpful with reservations and throughout our stay. The bathrooms were clean and the showers had plenty of hot water. My tree cottage had a wood burning stove, which kept the cottage nice and warm on the colder second night. The camp office was quaint with various camp necessities and with plenty of firewood stacked nearby. I did not find the office creepy, as noted by other reviewers. We liked the camp ground and plan to return again next year. read more
