I love this salon. I visit here to get my brows shaped by Christine. She is the only person I trust with my brows because she has the eye for perfect shape that fits your face, not a one shape fits all. She is incredibly sweet and patient with all my special requests. Plus she is being super safe and responsible with covid. She has the coolest mask that allows her to thread safely. Come and visit her because your brows will thank you. read more

Mantis Salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Austin, Texas

I had a great make-up lesson today with Christine Stafford at Mantis. Came in with my usual make-up on -- she gave me suggestions, took it all off, and redid me using my products and it looked fantastic! I found her on Youtube as a guest on my favorite make-up lady's channel and learned that she lives in Austin and will soon have her own Youtube channel. She's worked for all the big name cosmetics lines and knows her stuff -- you can tell because she looks so lovely. I don't want to wash my face tonite! I want her to be my big sister so we can play with make-up every week! It was my first time in Mantis and I found it to have a very attractive, welcoming atmosphere. Catherine S. read more

I too, followed Lisa from Orbit up to her new digs at Mantis. This was my first appt. with her since the big move and she's just as awesome. :) The salon is *very* cute. I'm partial to businesses in old homes and Mantis does it right. Very sleek, very pretty. Love the decor in the fireplace. I went in for highlights and cut at 5:30 (because yes, she does late hours a few nights a week). We did blonde highlights and on a whim, I asked her about bangs. She recommended piece-y bangs as opposed to blunt, thick ones. So we went for it. And now I have awesome bangs that I don't hate. Win! She listens, she cares, she does what you ask for and somehow manages to make me look amazing when I say 'eh, just do whatever'. Prices are right on target with Orbit. I couldn't be happier. So many complements on my hair today, from male co-workers no less! read more

Very nice little salon with friendly and experienced staff. Great location for me too. Go see Greggory Reveles for awesome men's cuts, ladies and coloring. Gregg always cuts and styles my hair perfectly with little to no direction or fuss. He asks how I style it and what products I use and works with it and makes great recommendations! Now that I've moved from Austin, well I go see him when I'm in town!! He is extremely funny and personable and I just feel great and relaxed for the whole day after visiting Gregg! I would highly recommend Gregg and Mantis Salon! It's worth the trip ;-) read more

Kate has been cutting my hair for the past two years, since I moved to Austin. Most of the time I just give her a general idea of what I want and let her figure out the rest. I've never been able to trust a stylist like that. She's not only incredibly talented, but she's also personable. She doesn't ask me to purchase any products nor any services that I didn't make an appointment for. I'll continue to going to her as long as she's here in Austin :) read more

I've been getting my hair cut by Chris for over 3 years!! He's awesome and not only do you leave with a great cut, when it grows out it still looks great!! He's also a fantastic resource for local happenings, even doing a couple social gatherings at the space a couple times a month. When you go be sure to check out the art in all rooms. It's always by a local artist and there's always a great story to go along with them!! read more

Kate saved my wedding day photos by working me in at the last minute after my regular colorist moved to Dallas without letting me know she wouldn't be able to do my hair for my wedding. She is so friendly and knowledgeable about not only hair products but nutrition and biology as well. The quality of the color she uses is fantastic, she was able to get my hair perfectly color matched, and maybe even a little better. Super friendly, and for 70$ for all over color she is the highest quality for the price I've seen in all of Austin. It's a 5% discount if you use cash or check since her card machine charges her. read more

Kate has been doing my hair since August, and I have been very pleased with the work she does. Getting my hair right is very important to me as I have a unique hairstyle. Not only does she get my hair the way I want, she is genuinely nice and hospitable. Most of the salons downtown are very impersonal, overpriced, and don't do a good job for the money you are paying. This is quite the opposite, and the salon is centrally located so you could get their from north or south fairly easily. I can't say enough about her attention to detail and personal touch. read more

This salon kicks butt! Not only are Chris and Jessica super friendly, and Chris has been working magic with my hair for years, but the salon itself has a laid-back feel, inviting atmosphere, and always includes terrific art on the walls and great tunes playing. And I will mention again, I have never been disappointed in my hair style or color. Chris works the highlight/color/seriously-fun-hair every visit! read more

Man, every time I go to get my hair done by Chris Kirkpatrick at Mantis Salon I say to myself " this is the best cut and color ever!" Chris always knows how to give me exactly what I ask for, however he is a professional so he also guides me in the right direction if what I am thinking may not be the best thing for me. I wish Chris could style my hair everyday because I feel amazing every time I walk out of his salon. CHRIS RULES!!!! read more

I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of Mantis Salon. It was a refreshing change from other noisy and gossipy salons around town. Their Kevin Murphy hair products are wonderful, but most of all I loved the seamless blonde highlights and cute cut that Jessica gave me! Beautiful, buttery highlights and a great cut from a friendly (and funny) stylist. I can't wait to go back! read more

David Moore is one of the best hairdressers in Austin. Known for his color, but his background as a Sassoon trained haircutter is underlooked. David also is great with finishing, bridal work. He's been my go-to for along time. He is super up on all of the trends, but knows how to cut and color for your facial and head shape. If you are looking for a great cut and beautiful color, go see David. Pat O Georgetown, TX read more

I followed scissors genius Lisa from Orbit up to her new place, where she and a few other local stylists have gone in together. Today I went in not sure I needed to keep my appointment, and she took a good look at my hair and gave me a quick dry cut to trim out a few dry spots and keep the long layers moving around, and it looks amazing. Another instance of her really listening and thinking it through. (Another hugely positive review of her work is back at the Orbit entry.) Thanks, Lisa, and congratulations Mantis folks on the new endeavor! The place looks really great! read more

I love Chris. To bits. He is everything I want in a stylist. And so is the salon. The shampoo chairs are like no other. It's like your head is floating and not crammed. His head massages are ah-mazin'! HIs cuts are the best because they actually grow out into a style. I never feel rushed to get back to his shop to have a trim. He's that good. The salon itself is clean as a whistle and super stylish. Great products. I could go on and on... read more

Chris does my color, and what a pro! He's quick, very professional and friendly. Such a great atmosphere and I dig his art collection. Kevin Murphy hair products are sold there, they are my fave. Don't hesitate to try it out! read more

Getting a haircut in Austin used to be a traumatizing experience. I had been almost everywhere, I thought, and they always ended up turning out like crap. Chris and Mantis has cured me of my haircut anxiety. He's incredibly friendly and always has good ideas for what to do with my hair. Frankly, I always only have the most basic idea of what I want and Chris makes something come through. He's also the first person to give me real, usable tips for keeping my hair looking good past the day of my cut. The location is incredible and the salon itself is very cool, too! read more

Chris is the best. Always knows what I want (even when I don't) I always get compliments on my hair- perfect bonus!

I had my first appointment with Chris yesterday for a cut and color. He was awesome! I haven't colored my hair in 10 years so I was really concerned about getting it right and keeping my hair healthy. He went through all of the options with me and we came up with a plan that matched what I was looking for. As mentioned in a previous post, he gives a great head massage, and the shampoo chair is amazing - you are basically laying down in a recliner, so your neck isn't jammed into the sink. Very cool. When it came to the cut, every snip was deliberate and precise. I spent about 2.5 hours in the chair but he was so easy to talk with the time just flew by. Go see him! read more

I totally dig Lisa at Manits. I followed her from Orbit where she first showed me the joys of getting a quality haircut. She listens, provides feedback, cuts all with the express purpose of making you look fabulous. I would highly recommend seeking out her hair snipping expertise. p.s. Her scalp massages are the best. You will be putty in her hands! read more

I had an emergency repair to do from a crooked haircut I got somewhere else the day before, and pretty much wept over as I had a party to go to the next evening. Besides the party hell in mere hours, it was still depressing that I would just have to wear it until it grew out - which looked as if it would take some time. I couldn't take it anymore (after just a day!) so I started to call around for help. I searched Yelp, called Mantis due to the rave reviews about Lisa, but she was busy. Next, I called Katie Hicks at the same salon. (They each use their private lines.) Katie was ON HER WAY HOME when she answered her phone and she CAME BACK to the Salon to help me out. She was very nice, very personable and very helpful. She explained what she could do before she did it and rested my mind that it was repairable. She had to go shorter to fix the bad (really bad) bangs and uneven sideburns, but even though I don't like my bangs short, she managed to make them cute and hardly show the chunk that was cut out by the stylist at another salon. The cut plus a few highlights took the angst out of my pre-party hair fright. Katie actually said she LIKES fixing a haircut that someone else messes up. And, she's great at it. Mantis is a great little salon, a few of the stylist put the place together themselves so have a vested interest in being top notch. It is a new shop in my neighborhood and I hope to see it succeed. I will tell all my friends to keep business coming their way! GO THERE, You will be glad you did. read more

Love Kate at Mantis! She is always accommodating even my crazy schedule. She is great with hair color and has really improved the overall quality and shine of my hair. Great funky vibe to the place. No blaring screaming music just great tunes in this low key salon. Kate listens to what you want and does a great job of delivering it to you. I highly recommend Kate and Mantis!! read more

I've been to a few salons, to say the least, before I hooked up with Rhianna. I love my new style and will stick with her always.

I highly recommend Chris. He takes his time to cut my hair into a style that works for my hair and my face. And I emphasize that he cut for a style that has grown out flawlessly. The salon is beautiful in a zen way [not overly pretentious like some places], and the shampoo scalp massage is worth the visit on its own. Chris has a keen eye for color, which he also applies with great detail. read more
