I was really excited to try this place. The first red flag was that it was completely empty in a Saturday night. The service was great, the food came out fast. I tried the conch fritters which were good, the Akra I would pass on next time I did not like those. The honey jerk chicken was good but not spicy at all. The plantain fries were bland, and the tostones were good. Overall everything seems like it was cooked with the same seasoning, all a little bland and had no distinct flavors. I've passed by its location for a while but never tried it until now, and I regret not trying it earlier. I tied a few of their options and have been thinking about them since. To start, we had Caribbean Conch Fritters and Tostones. The conch fritters come with a honey mustard remoulade that complements them perfectly, and the tostones are crisp and seasoned. We did the Build Your Bowl Option for our mains: one bowl with the Honey Jerk Chicken, Garlic-Roasted Sweet Corn, and Sweet Potato Fries, and the other with Jerk Shrimp, white rice, and Toofay. Every single component is delicious and flavorful; together, they were terrific. For dessert, we tried their Benyen, a banana beignet served with coconut creme glaze. This is a delicious and fluffy take on beignets. Overall, I loved Manjay. I will return soon to try their Express Combos and have some new favs again. Took my mom to Manjay while she was visiting, and I have to say, I love the concept. Made-to-order food, generous portions, and enough leftovers to relive the meal at home. Big win there. We both built our own bowls. I went with griyo, red beans and rice, and brussels sprouts, while my mom had the honey jerk chicken, red beans and rice, and maduros. The bowls come with sauces, and here's the pro tip: don't skip them. The meats were fresh but on the bland side, so the mango scotch bonnet aioli was the real MVP. This place was a pleasant surprise! I thought the hype was a lot, but they certainly back it up! From the moment you stepped in the place, the ambiance had island vibes and the staff was kind and ready to make your order. I had the jerk chicken with the boniato fries and rice and peas. I also had the conch fritters and a ginger and pineapple soda. The conch fritters were excellent and full of conch! The jerk chicken was made panko style and though that was unique and new to me, I really enjoyed it. I think it could've used more spice on the meat as I had my sauce on the side (I'm not a fan of sweet with meat). The sauces were good and the picklies was hot but it was sweet and spicy. What a great lunch deal! I had the daily special with red beans and rice, pork, and a heap of pikliz. It was generous portions and incredibly fresh flavors, and served quickly. This hidden gem is in a strip mall filled with several other eateries, and it stands out in a great way. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and offered recommendations as it was my first time visiting (and devotion not my last). My partner suggested we come here after seeing a review on Instagram about this restaurant. Upon arriving, we realized it's located in a plaza we've ate at before. There's plenty of options for parking and it's a short walk to the restaurant. Since we were STARVING and had barely ate that day we decided to get Akra as our appetizer and then build our own bowls with 2 proteins instead of just 1. I got the coconut curry shrimp with griot, rice&beans as my first side and tostones as my second. For sauce i asked for the griot sauce and herb aioli (for my cilantro lovers). My partner ordered the marinated steak with jerk chicken, rice&beans and brussel sprouts. We asked for the Pikliz on the side after the worker gave us a sample (it is spicy so be careful). Honestly, the shrimp was the only average item. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS MARVELOUS. The perfect texture of our appetizer, the rich flavors coming from the marinades, the right amount of crispiness for the tostones... i mean i really can't brag enough, it was amazing. Our food thankfully didn't take forever to come out and the staff was more than happy to offer us different samples and make sure we have everything we need even after the food came out. I got the jerk chicken bowl and honestly it tasted like teriyaki I didn't get a jerk vibe at all. If I got this at a Chinese restaurant I would blink twice I wouldn't even question it. Manjay is a good option if you're in the area and want to try something completely new. They seem to be a Jamaican/Haitian restaurant with other influences. I liked my vegetable bowl, but my one complaint was the amount of oil in it. Next time I'm going to try the roti. My brother had the honey jerk chicken and liked it, but he wasn't super happy about it being fried. Prices are reasonable and you can customize most offerings. Pickli is a spicy slaw that comes standard, and I loved it. There are a few sauces you can pick from. All in all I would come back and I'll know exactly what I want. Restaurant is nicely decorated, but I should have noted that there wasn't a single customer there for lunch. We ordered a jerk chicken sandwitch, honey jerk wings, sweet potato fries, and green plantain fries. The food took a very long time to be prepared. The sandwitch was descent. The plantain fries were ok too. The wings were burnt and way over-sauced. The sweet potato fries were over cooked as well. 80% of the food we purchased went in the trash. Not sure if this place just opened, but there were some serious red flags. No paper in the bathroom (I was told they ran out). Beer taps, but they did not have beer??? Soda fountain, but no soda, only cans - but you had to go get the ice from the fountain??? Not sure what the deal was today, but won't be back. I recently went to Manjay because a friend of mine recommended it to me and it did not disappoint. This Caribbean fusion was absolutely delicious. I had the Griot which is a very well known Haitian dish. The pork was soft and tender. Most places I go that serve Griot don't have the pork as soft as this was. I was pleased to see they serve djon djon rice which is a black rice soaked with Haitian black mushroom. It was delicious and their plantains were so tasty. I ended up ordering a to go plate of creole chicken and rice and beans with corn. My kids loved the food as well. This is a nice and clean spot, great for lunch. As for service, you need to order first and then pick it up at the counter. So it isn't really a place where you have to wait for a waiter to bring you your food. I will definitely be going back. This is a 100/10 : when we walked in, we were greeted it was nice and clean . The setting was lovely the tables and everything were so nice the whole set and the decorations. As for the food it was so unreal. I didn't expect that to be as good as it was.. the rice was super good. It also had the drippings from the honey jerk chicken on it..
