Best pork bbq and longonisa ever. Great service too. Great stop if you like authentic Filipino food

It has been years since I have eaten at this spot and unfortunately, I don't plan on rushing back any time soon. 3 stars for a few things: dirty silverware, gross tap water in the dispenser, out of date menu, and shrinkflation. Again, it's been years since I last came here, but I was in the area and knew that Manila Sunset was nearby. I suggested to my family that we eat there for lunch. I wish I didn't. The food was delicious, but it would have been nice to have more of it. The portions have been reduced, especially the BBQ dish. I was expecting 4 skewers of meat, but instead got a small pile of pork with 2 huge scoops of rice. The rice is a filler for the pork that they have reduced. We were still hungry, so I had to place another order of food to feed us all and order some additional items, causing me to spend more $ than I thought I would need to. What I do appreciate is their honesty. There is a sign posted at their register that discloses that they have had to go up 10 percent on their prices due to the economy. But they don' tell you that they have also shrunk their portions, so you are paying more for less. Totally get that all the tariffs are out of their control and that they are just trying to survive, but I can't continue to support a business that makes such drastic changes to their food. Conditions have also declined. The silverware in the back was all filthy. It had old food and stains on it and I had to pick carefully to find clean silverware. We had water which was in the dispenser by the silverware. It was gross because there was some kind of debris in all our water. We decided to not drink it. We had a small child with us so I ordered the spaghetti. The gal at the register clearly wasn't familiar with the menu, so she had to go to the back to ask. She quickly came back and told me that they don't do the spaghetti anymore. Ok well update Google and your menu on the board. Disappointed, I accepted the gal's recommendation of the pancit, but that too wasn't very good, and not enough to feed us all. I really hope that Manila Sunset can keep the doors open and I hope the community continues to support them. Unfortunately, I won't be returning for a while after the last experience. read more

So disappointed about our visit. I had high hopes from the place but it not need meet our expectations. I love the aesthetic of the place but section in the back did not look inviting. As for food, my husband thought Lechon kawali is ok but the serving is small, veggie lumpia is ok. My beef tapa did not taste like tapa at all and it did not taste good. It's like beef was marinated in mostly vinegar sauce and air fried. And when you air fry lean, thin pieces of meat, you can just imagine how it comes out. I hope it gets better read more

Super delicious Filipino food just across from Westfield Southcenter. I was craving some Filipino BBQ but got tires of the dry BBQ pork at Grill City (they used to be super good but gotten worse and worse) and saw this restaurant recommended by Google and decided to give it a try and it was so good. Everything we ordered was crazy delish. You bis and clean your own table afterwards and utensils and water are self-serve. Plenty of parking when we dined there. A lot of takeout orders too. I love coming here when I can. I usually come here with my brother. This is our thing to do for fun. Everything on the menu looks very tempting. However, our favorite is always the "diniguan". If you know, you just know! Service is fast and always good. We live the halo-halo and the Gilman with sago. Anyway, prices are good as well. It's a drive from Edmonds but worth it. We are here for lunch; ordered lechon Kawali, fresh lumpia roll, and halo halo. Restaurant located at strip mall by Westfield mall. There menu consists of a lot of BBQ and meat dishes. No fresh veggies. The lumpia /spring roll was with sautéed veggies covered with peanut sauce and diced hard boiled eggs. It was a fairly big portion. My date ordered the lechon, came with 1.5 cup white rice and sautéed veggies (cabbage/carrots) and soup. The lechon is crispy and moderate portion size. The soup was vinegary,I thought it was a bit too sour for my liking, but my date enjoyed it. Halo halo was refreshing, wished they had more fixings than ice. Topped with ice cream, ube and jackfruit. I visit Seattle often and I don't know the owners personally. I was actually about to post because I placed an order and came across some very negative comments that I found interesting. As a cook myself, I honestly smile when I read some of those reviews. First of all, the owner is never rude -- always professional. Just because things didn't go exactly your way doesn't mean the staff was rude. Some reviews even mention a worm in the food. Let's be real -- no cook would ever see that and still serve it. More likely it's about portion sizes or taste not being what you expected. Every restaurant is different. If you don't like it, maybe it's better to cook at home instead of leaving unfair reviews. For me, this place never fails. Just yesterday I ordered the BBQ chicken -- it was delicious. I even called the owner three times with different questions, and even though I could tell he was busy, he still responded kindly every time. That's the kind of service I consistently get at Manila Sunset, no matter who picks up the phone. This is the only Filipino restaurant I trust when I don't have time to cook for parties. Manila Sunset recommended to us for their Halo Halo. And my friends, this indeed the best place to come for Halo Halo in the Southern part of King County. Their halo halo is filled with jellies, beans, flan, ube ice cream and lots of goodness. You can never go wrong with the Halo Halo here. Highly recommend the Lumpia Shanghai here too. The inside is never dry and just the right flavorings. There are not too many filipino places I have been where I crave their lumpia or would go out of my way to get. But I would from Manila Sunset. It is everything I yearn for in a comforting bowl of rice soup fiiled with aromatics like ginger, juicy pieces of chicken and topped with fried garlic and hard boiled egg. All you need is a squeeze of fresh lime or lemon, & no matter who cooks mine - I always want a splash of patis (fish sauce) in my bowl. This is my favorite place for filipino bbq. Manila Sunset is hands down much better than anything else in the area (aka those places in SouthCenter). Their bbq sticks (both pork and chicken) are tender, moist and perfectly marinated. Honestly, I haven't had a bad dish here. Some I definitely love more than others but overall, this is a place where I can come and feel like I am getting a home cooked meal without having to do the cooking and cleaning myself. Filipino Food is hard to replicate, because so many of us were taught by our mom and aunties who never had a recipe and only cook by sight, touch, taste and love. The TokWat Baboy is the WORST dish I've ever eaten at Manila Sunset (all locations.) Goldilocks is much better. The Goto was ok. Not a fan of the meat. I wish I stuck with the Aroz Caldo that I originally wanted to order. With that said, I hated the dishes I ordered for myself that I ordered the Liempo. That too was just ok. They expect you to wait your own table!? and if your not Filipino then they will tell you they are out of everything. My grandfather asked for fish and they said they were out and then a lady came out the back with fresh fish they didn't give us any water. The cashier was pretty rude bouncing back and forth between a customer who was done ordering and us who were still ordering 10 out of 10 would not recommend. I'm not a Filipino food expert by any means but growing up my parents neighbors are Filipino and I have friends who's homemade food I'm used to eating. Our favorite of what we ordered was the longanisa and egg, also had the pork inihaw Shanghai lumpia and the pancit malabon. I never had that style of pancit not a big fan of it used to having more than one type of noodle and some veggies in it. Glad I finally tried it had been on my list for awhile going with a Filipino friend made it easier to figure out items. Anyway, we were craving for fresh lumpia so we stopped by and ordered it to go along with palabok and dinuguan. Here's the breakdown review: FRESH LUMPIA This really was very disappointing. As far as I remember, fresh lumpia is made of fresh crepe and not the lumpia wrapper we used for fried lumpia. We ordered 3 fresh lumpia and regrets it a lot. The fresh lumpia wrapper was hard, vegetable was sautéed with no seasoning. The lumpia sauce didn't have any hint of fresh garlic taste nor have the classic chopped peanuts. This is a one star PANSIT MALABON This should have no star at all. It was sour, not enough sauce, noodle was hard. This is inedible. Dinuguan It's not bad but it's not the best either. But it was the only one that was edible among the 3 we ordered. I hope the owner read the reviews. It so hard to write a bad review with the restaurant current situation with Covid. Catching up on Yelp reviews. This is for a visit back on 7/14/18 as a party of 7 coming from Lynnwood, Shoreline, Bremerton, and West Seattle convening in Tukwila to dine at Manila Sunset. Clearly a popular spot despite several other Filipino businesses at the nearby Westfield Southcenter. We were seated after a brief wait, it seems the tables turnover at a reasonable pace. All of us ordered a variety of entrée combos and menu items. The gentleman at the counter was very helpful and patient as others had challenges on what to order. Kitchy with jeepney signage so your food is delivered to the correct tables, there's the requisite assortment of condiments, and the ever present spoon and fork décor. But the service is efficient, food brought swiftly, in a clean dining area. Decent, but I still prefer home cooking or venturing to another spot in Bremerton instead. The greater Seattle area is not well represented with indie Filipino restaurants, more of the chains from CA or the PI. However, there are a handful I still haven't checked out further south in Kent and Federal Way. Manila Sunset does the job, but food cooked by myself, relatives, or the resident Lola/Lolo or Auntie/Uncle culinary go to is greatly preferred instead. read more

Huge portion sizes! (But then again, portion sizes in the US are always bigger than most countries around the world.) Tasty food! We ordered the bbq chicken, lechon kawali, and tocilog. The actual pork belly slices were thick for the lechon kawali. It also came with what looked like their homemade version of atsara, which was delicious! In addition to the classic options, we decided to try their vegetarian Lumpias, and they turned out to be a delightful surprise. The food from here was decent and at decent portions, but the main reason for my low score was that my parents and I came here and they ordered maybe 2 entrees. The restaurant wasn't that busy with either pick-up orders or people inside the restaurant. And we waited about 30 minutes for our food. I'm sure they were understaffed, which is really sad, but what was originally planned to be a quick swing by for takeout became a long waiting affair. The other customers were also getting impatient. This is an interesting divey place. The decor resembles the outside of a bamboo hut. You order first and sit down. They'll bring you your food piping hot and on a banana leaf.
