Went here for battery replacement and watch tune-up recently. It was $40, which is more than I'd normally pay elsewhere, but they're watch experts so it makes sense you get what you pay for. Watch was ready the next day, I have no complaints and will come back if I ever need help with my watches. I came here last year to overhaul my datejust. Upon receiving, the watch back (service was relatively quick), I began having major time keeping issues with the watch either running slow/fast. I had to revisit the store more than three times to fix this issue and would continuously provide inaccurate time (+/-30s/day). Still runs inaccurately today. Surprising because the datejust movement is well established and relatively easy to work with. I would advise to stay away from this place. read more

I came here to fix my bracelet watch because two of the screws fell out, leaving my watch in 3 pieces. Note, this is a high quality vintage watch, and I wear it for jewelry purposes rather than function (the battery does not work) since I own an Apple Watch anyway. Initially, the lady took my watch and had her husband (?) inspect it. She came back and said $60 to replace the battery and $60 to put the watch back together. I just wanted the watch to be placed back together, and she was appalled I did not want the battery fixed and just wanted to wear it for jewelry purposes. She then talked to her husband again, and she comes back to tell me it will be $70 to place TWO tiny screws back in. I was shocked she decided to up-charge after giving the initial $60 to fix my watch. At that point, I decided I'd rather have a broken watch than do service with them. Because they seem like the type to fix my battery even though I didn't ask and then overcharge me. Absolutely overpriced and scammy. I called ahead of time to confirm they were open and when I arrived the staff member refused to wear his mask correctly. His mouth was showing and he was clearly flaunting NYC regulations, which is incredibly disappointing and illegal during a pandemic. I brought them an undamaged and only 5 year old Tag Heuer Monaco that needed to be serviced. I told him I had a quote for $350 from a guy online, but walked it over to them because I work midtown so they were the closest to me and they had good Yelp reviews. The guy went on and on about how expensive and complicated my watch was to service and that it could be $500 - $900. I pointed out that it was just a super common ETA movement and that the whole movement (ETA 2894-2) cost $400 new, but this one just needed a cleaning. He kept going on and on about how expensive and complicated these watches are. So I left, brought it to a watch place with higher reviews but a block further away. Unsolicited, he says, "oh yeah, those are pretty common, it will be $350 to service". No idea the quality of their work...they could be complete magicians. I just think that with the internet, nobody should have to pay inflated prices for things. It only takes a few minutes to get educated so you don't get taken advantage of. read more

Dropped off a broken Jaeger Lecoultre. They held it for a few says, took it apart and then I had to call them (they don't even call you) to check if it was done being assessed. They informed me of a pricing structure that I know is a rip off. I'm knowledgeable enough about time pieces to know that $950 to do something as basic as what I asked for was absurd. Took it to an amazing spot uptown that did beautiful work for half that. Main issue with this place though is that the guys are flat out rude. When I came to pick it up, the guy didn't speak two words to me and then laid the watch on the table. No thank you, nothing! I understand that I chose to take my watch elsewhere for repairs but niceties should still be exchanged when you're in the customer service field. I was floored. read more

I am a collector of vintage watches, and I have used Manhattan Time Service for several repairs/rehabs of a variety of different vintage watches. They do superb work and are as good as anyone. They have overhauled and rebuilt everything for me from a vintage 1960's Omega automatic, to a pair of vintage Benrus watches, to a vintage Russian Poljot chronograph, and in each case the watch came back in superb condition. These guys are not cheap, but they know what they are doing and they do what they do with care and commitment. If you have a watch you really want to take care of, and particularly if you have a difficult or unique problem, Manhattan Time Service is a great place to use for rehab/overhaul. read more

This isn't a shop you just walk into. It's a fortress. It's in an office building: You have to win your way past the doorman, take the elevator up, and then wait to be buzzed in, whereupon a man ferries you across a moat to get to the watch repair counter. I ended up here because my watchband needed replacing. I just wanted the same black leather band, or something similar. When their somewhat limited selection didn't turn up anything similar, the man behind the counter resorted to calling my previous band "crap," and tried to sell me a lower quality one at a higher price than I'd paid previously. I haggled him down a bit, got my band, and got out of there. Perhaps it's fantastic for watch repair, but I wouldn't recommend it to replace a watchband. _________ Oh, and I lied about the moat. There's no moat. But that would be cool if there was a moat in a midtown office building. Cooler than overpaying for a watch band, at any rate. read more

Cartier would have made me buy the band and dealing with that elitist service (you wait even if you have an appointment) was annoying. It is inexplicably difficult to get in touch with them. They rarely answer their phone, there's no voicemail, and there's no email. I called about 5 times a day for 4 days to no avail. When I finally did get through to someone, they said they would look for my ticket and call me back in about 30 min. 2 hours later, I sill hadn't heard from them. I tried calling them again at that point, but no one answered. I don't know how anyone feels comfortable leaving a watch with them when there is essentially no way to get in touch with them. Habring2 - Felix manual. winding became very difficult. Told to replace mainspring. Still have same problem but now they put silicone on gasket? Didn't work! 700 dollars later? 1 year warranty meaningless. Kept within 3 seconds per day before. now 9 seconds. Mainspring from 42 reserve time to 31. Since my original problem remains changing the mainspring obviously wasn't the best choice. Stay away if you have real mechanical problems. Will go back till something is fixed since i have 10 months on 12 month warranty. Or maybe just the runaround for 10 months? read more

My automatic Panerai Radiomir Black Seal, bought a little over 2 years ago, stopped occasionally. In my country there is no technical service and they charged a lot to send it to the United States. Taking advantage of the fact that I would be in NYC, I looked for a technical service in Manhattan and Manhattan Time Service appeared as experts in Panerai. I took it, they observed it, they determined that it was necessary to change a couple of pieces (strange in a practically new watch), and they offered me to repair it in 3 days for a price of USD 900 (!!!). I accepted. After 3 days I went to look for it. The watch has been working well for 5 days and I hope it continues like this. I do not dare yet to rate the quality of the service. In MTS dare to open a Panerai and repair it, but unlike the official technical services, are unclear in the diagnosis, do not give a detail of the work done, do not return the replaced parts, do not explain how they solve the sealing issues (it is a watch for 100 meters deep), but they are fast and give a one year warranty. Jacob is a tough businessman, he has an explanation for everything, but I would have preferred to get a concrete answer to what was described above. read more
