Not sure what the deal is with this place... I collect watches and have a large collection. I work around the corner and it popped in twice to sort of look around and see if there's anything that catches my eye that I might trade in some pieces for. Both times I've been there today. He wouldn't me and showed me like one watch but I asked like one or two questions. They're just like thank you goodbye basically I can get the hell out of the store. We have a great inventory and a lot of the pieces I've never actually held so you're kind of wanna look at them before you spend. I have a 12 year old DLC GMTII with a worn oyster bracelet. I tried several other online sites without success. Boris at Motion In Time texted back right-a-way with a price to replace the bracelet with a new DLC coated one for a great price. (I was quoted a higher price to repair and re-cost the old bracelet from a watchmaker in London). He turned around the watch by the end of the week and shipped it back overnight to Portand. Motion in Time recently serviced a vintage watch before I put it up for sale. After I dropped off the watch, I had to keep chasing them to get an estimate. Finally they said it would be $400, but when I asked to get the watch back saying it was not worth it, they dropped the servicing charge to $300, saying "we want you to tell everyone how great we are". They serviced the watch but didn't bother to call me back. A couple of weeks later, when I called, they said it is ready for pickup. After getting possession of the watch, I promptly listed it for sale. Prospective buyers wanted to see a picture of the movement ... I wish I had thought about that before/when I was picking up the watch. When I took back the watch and asked if they can open the case so I could get a picture, they said that'd be $110. An arbitrary number that they were willing to discount to $90, without any prompting from me, adding "we don't want to mess up the gasket after taking something like $30 from you". Granted there is five minutes of work involved in opening and closing a screw back rather than a snap back, but the tone and content of what they told me was borderline sleazy. Maybe that is apropos for the diamond district and the jewelry market, but I lost it at that point and quietly walked out of the store. Motion in Time likely did a decent job of servicing my watch (too early to tell), but they certainly did nothing to win my trust or loyalty. A big zero on customer service. Never again! And I would advise you to take your business elsewhere. read more

Motion in time is great. They are professional, reasonably priced and nice. I was surprised when I saw that they were willing to service two watches with very difficult complications from the 40s. This is not the usual spot where they only do easy repair on new watches, they are not scared of working hard on complex movements. Motion in Time has a great location and a terrific selection of high end watches. They have a tremendous problem with customer service. Never before have we been treated so poorly by a pushy watch salesperson. Unfortunately for them as we buy lots of expensive watches including; Rolex, AP, and Patek. They went out of their way to ruin what could have been a mutually valuable long-term relationship. In these days of cheap, disposable goods and throw-away culture, it is a rare establishment that will do watch repairs and service conscientiously. Motion in Time is a rare gem. Eli checked the battery and quickly helped fix the chronograph function on a watch of mine that had no great intrinsic value, but had sentimental value to me. He treated me with the same courtesy and consideration that I would have expected if I'd shown him a Breitling, a Rolex or, for that matter, a Patek Philippe. That's service and pride of workmanship. Did a trade with the store owner's son (Boris) a while back - bringing in a special edition AP for a high-end Panerai - both were comparable in value. Watch was BNIB, but was defective when I got home to wind it up - the hands weren't aligned properly. I immediately contacted Boris, and was promised they could fix the watch. I was concerned, since this model had Panerai's in-house movement. I was told "my watch maker works on minute repeaters and tourbillons; this will be no problem". Well, that's when the trouble began...... They tried to move the hands, however with this specific Panerai movement you CAN NOT do this. After some back-and-forth, 5-6 weeks later, the watch still wasn't fixed right and now the hands looked like they were crimped by pliers. I showed this to Boris, and asked for the watch to be fixed properly this time, new hands installed and asked as well when the job would be completed properly. After jumping thru more hoops (there is more mess, but I'm not detailing everything - 1 example was: "Call me back in 2 weeks, and it should be ready..." 2 weeks later I followed up, and they would need more time; this went on continuously.), about 5 weeks later, I get the watch back. The hands were finally aligned, however, they are still crimped - and now the power reserve function wasn't working! UGH!!! At that point, I demanded a refund - I was furious. Was told they can't do it. Well, I ask for them to take the watch and let me trade against something else that works; thought it was a reasonable request, since this was brand new and I had not worn it for more than 1 day, after 11 weeks. Well the watch was worth around $20-21k at the time (street price), and he was offering me a trade-in value of $14-15k. So you don't fix my watch right, jerk me along throughout the process, and now want to give me a ridiculous offer to take something back you should have in the first place? I was furious, but could not trust them anymore. I decided to take the watch back and send it into the company for repair. Panerai took 4 months to properly repair the watch, at a cost of $800 out of my pocket. Oh, I forgot - add ANOTHER $1200 because I needed a new caseback... the Motion in Time idiots did not have proper tools to open up the watch, and dinged up the caseback badly along the edges. Out $2000, and not able to wear the watch for 6 1/2 months. Talk about learning a hard lesson... I have been buying/selling/trading various types of watches for almost 10+ years - with not 1 problem with anyone. And this includes grey-market dealers, private collectors, AD's... you name it. I have heard, subsequent to my ordeal, that Motion in Time had a few issues with others - including other grey-market dealers on 47th Street (where their shop is located). Not sure if those stories were true, or overly serious, but I do know that my situation was AWFUL. To add, I have documentation to verify everything here. Deal with CAUTION... if you have an issue with a watch purchased from them, don't expect ANY KIND of service. read more

I was very pleased with my experience here. I purchased a rare specimen that I found on ebay, and, since I dislike and distrust paypal intensely, I contacted them about paying via personal check. They were only too happy to oblige, and even offered me a discount for not using an expensive credit card. Although there was a bit of a wait, I received the watch in mint condition, exactly as it was described, running to better than factory standards of accuracy. Then to not waste my time, tried to buy another Style from the same brand, then was given a ridiculous price. Never shop here again ! I bought an expensive gold Cartier mens watch this summer and paid over $6000 second hand. I was promised a 2 year guarantee. When the watch needed repair hardly 6 weeks later, I was promised it would be ready within a week. After 7 weeks it was still not ready, and I met with rudeness and aggression when I asked for it back, repaired or not. I finally got it back after numerous reminders, but they charged $80 for replacing a tiny screw -which I have no doubt was missing when they first sold the watch to me.
