Plain and simple, this is the worst storage experience in Manhattan. They actually have most of their storage lockers in an "annex" building that does not have drive-in access as-is advertised. Secondly, my locker was on the 5th floor, which normally wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that the elevator was broken when I needed to move out. This meant that I had to carry an entire locker worth of things by traversing 5 flights of stairs on each journey. This led to a trip and fall accident with my belongings. When I spoke to the manager, he said that I should simply sue. Terrible experience - would recommend going elsewhere. read more

We moved out today 8/8, and I went to check out and asked for the prorated month. They only offer the first 7 days as a courtesy, after that you get charged for the whole month. So I said well then if I'm paying for the whole month, I'm going to put my lock back on the unit. Sorry sir, you checked out- you don't have access to the space anymore. I said why didn't the guy behind the desk tell me any of that. It's in the contract! Typical shyster. read more

AVOID, FLOODED Don't write a lot of reviews but feel it's right to warn others from what was an expensive and frustrating experience. My indoor, climate controlled unit flooded due to rainy weather. Was not notified (verified this with Loretta, management), so did not discover this in time to prevent things from soaked and rotting through with mold. Spoke with a custodian who told me he repaints over the water stains when this happens. Front desk was sympathetic but couldn't do much other than offer a corporate number. Before they paid for a percentage of my damages I was pressured by 2 employees on 2 occasions to write positive reviews in front of them despite my things being destroyed. It was awkward but I declined. I don't blame them for doing their job, but it explains the glowing reviews. Since the incident I've heard similar Manhattan Mini Storage stories from friends. Even after a 2 month back and forth, the claims department did not reimburse even close to the value of the things even though I paid for the add-on insurance. TL;DR: cheaper and less painful to throw my things away. read more

MOVE IN Oct 2015: Shalinda, the storage associate made this an easy, informative, and might I even say FUN process. The moment I walked in, she greeted me with a smile, patiently explained everything I needed to know about storing in the facility, showed me the storage unit before I committed to anything, and walked me thru the no-tricks billing procedure. I was shocked how reasonable their prices were for such a great location. Manhattan Mini Storage gives me alot of confidence based upon the professionalism in every aspect of their work. The website gave me lots of options and I was able to choose a convenient move-in date and size. Immediately after I made the no-strings reservation online, Jay Chiu, a storage rep called me and asked pertinent questions and gave me all the info I wanted, as well as helped me schedule their free movers. FREE MOVE was totally legit, fast, friendly, and didn't cost me a penny, other than to tip the wonderful movers. Their rates if you go over the free move (2.5hr), the rate for each additional hour is totally reasonable. No tricks here either. This facility was very accessible (right near the Highline), clean, and there seems to be alot of space for trucks to park outside. I'd recommend it so highly and it's so refreshing to see such competent, friendly people in New York City. Keep up the great work! MOVE OUT April 2016: The website makes it super easy to coordinate a move out since you just list your move-out date and reason. Not only is it possible to call them and speak to a human being about the details of your move-out, they are happy to help you and give you a number to call. I usually don't leave reviews, but in this case I simply had to. I am a college freshman, and moving out of a college dorm in New York all by yourself is one of the most stressful experiences. However, I could not be more impressed with the service provided. Firstly, all my stuff was loaded into a truck for me and then I got to ride to the location. Once there, I had a painless check in. However, what made the experience was Janeka Jackson. She personally took me up to show me the unit, helped me load and unload everything into the unit, and calmed all my anxieties about the process. Once done, she helped to breakdown all the fees and ensured that all my (many) questions were answered. I was expecting a long and painful process, but thanks to her, the entire thing took less than 45 minutes. Amazing. read more

This is a review for Manhattan Mini Storage located at 510-520 W. 21st Street. We rented a storage unit there for 5 years, and recently closed the unit. Every time we went to the unit, or used the free shuttle service, the staff was honestly very friendly and helpful. It was always a pleasant experience! A special thank-you to the gentleman at the front desk (apologies, we don't know his name) - he was always very courteous. We also thank Rosie, with whom we spoke on the phone to book the storage shuttle several different times. Benjamin drove us in the shuttle from the storage facility back to our apartment with about 10 items. He went out of his way to help us load, unload and carry the items, including heavy boxes and a large chair! Benjamin was extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. Thank you! read more

I can't say enough amazing things about this location! I did a lot of research about the best place to store my belongings while I was moving into my new apartment as I was dreading having to find a storage facility in Chelsea. But this facility was a dream - well lit, good ventilation, SO clean, and well equipped. But the real gem of this location is the staff. They are amazing!!! So friendly and professional. They explain everything very clearly and are always there to lend a hand and go the extra mile. I am grateful to Yvonne, Kenya, and Hector for their kindness, humor, and constant assistance! And a special shoutout to Tony and Donna who are often there with a big smile in the evenings and have helped me numerous times when I was in a jam. Truly a remarkable staff! I would strongly advise against storing at this location. As you can see from my posted photograph, all my stored belongings at the 21st Street location were ruined in Hurricane Sandy. They were submerged in floor-to-celing water. Of course the hurricane was not MMS's fault. However, the way I was notified about the catastrophe was downright creepy and sketchy. A surprise mass email two weeks after the storm saying essentially "All of your belongings may be unsalvageable. Please remove them immediately or we will." Talk about "blame the victim"! There was no compassion, no real effort to take care of everyone's often deeply personal and priceless belongings. When I immediately called MMS, I was told that if I did not arrive there within 48 hours, they would "dispose of" my belongings. This was hardly possible, as I was in Chicago when I received this correspondence. The hurricane itself was a nightmare, but the way MMS treated me added enormously to the stress. I do not feel that they were either prompt nor professional - in a situation in which many people lost a huge portion of their life's work and possessions. ------------------------------------------------------ Here is a follow-up, in response to the detailed and inaccurate information in MMS's reply to my review. Adam's points whitewash what actually occurred from this customer's end. Most importantly: The first contact I received by email from MMS was on November 9. This was almost TWO WEEKS after Hurricane Sandy hit New York. Therefore, Adam's assertion that MMS notified customers "in the hours and days immediately following the storm" sounds a lot better than the reality. After all was said and done, my belongings were indeed not "disposed of". However my review was about the threatening tone of the initial MMS email and of my phone conversations with MMS in dealing with the catastrophic aftermath. Quoting from the first paragraph of the email I received from Dimitrios Papiris: "Due to the flooding of these basements, the contents of the rooms are believed to have been ruined by the water. Little if any contents may be salvageable." My first thought---and indeed my only thought for the next several weeks, was that my entire life's possessions were gone. And in every phone call after this, I was told that if I did not show up within a day or two (again, I was not in New York for the entire fall), they "could not guarantee" what was going to happen to them. In the end, of course most items were ruined. However a few vital pieces of paper, and a few other items of value were indeed salvageable. The suggestion to contact Mr. Papiris is not a useful one, as it was this office that I found most inadequate. It is nice to hear how helpful and altruistic MMS was to other victims of the disaster in the greater community. It would have been nice to have received more professional, courteous, and empathetic treatment myself. read more

Great, clean and cheap (budget-wise) for New York City. I had gotten quotes from 3-4 different storage places prior and when I called on Manhattan Mini Storage, I was skeptical because of their low prices. You won't find much about them online but rest assured, they are certainly great! They will do whatever they can to save you money and make your move as painless as possible. I was told about promotions that I didn't even know about and they could've easily kept that to themselves - that showed me the type of people I would be dealing with and it started to put me at ease. The person on the phone is helpful (I've spoken to 5+ people total and each time they were helpful)! I also rented movers through them to help get my stuff over there because the promotion included it and their partnered team couldn't have been more friendly and efficient. With some packing items that I didn't have but required them to use, he could've charged me an arm and a leg for tape, bubble wrap and a tv box but he really hooked it up by taking only what was necessary and either pro-rated the charge or waived it altogether. Now that's good service! The rest of the move was seamless and I didn't have to stress much at all. Fast forward about 2 years later with my stuff in storage, everything was exactly the way I left it! There was a small issue with my door's lock but the people at the desk were VERY FRIENDLY and got it sorted immediately. I must've asked 16 questions and was being pretty needy with knowing what would be pro-rated since I was checking out early in the month and the person was very helpful and nice. After about 30 minutes of helping me, he SHOCKED me by saying, "I'm sorry, this is actually my first day at this location." I couldn't have been more impressed by the work ethic because it would've been too easy to brush me off as an annoying customer, but he did his best to help me however he could and he certainly over-delivered! To that employee, if you're reading this, my bad for forgetting your name but best of luck to you if you ever decide to move to Houston! Note that if you have garbage or you're leaving something behind, they have to charge you and they'd be happy to explain the charges. They have to pay the people to throw it away because it's on their property. They have separate fees for electronics, mattresses and what I call miscellaneous items. For the typical miscellaneous items, they give you a tote to throw all applicable things in there for them to dispose of for $35. Try to catch Maziel if you can, she is the general manager and really hooked it up for me only charging $35 for an abundance of items I was leaving behind. I decided on my own to write this review. People who do well and provide good service deserve to get the acknowledgement. Far too many times, reviews are only leveraged to get something after being mistreated and that's just not how I roll. read more

So after a great storage taxi pick up, we get to this location and apparently the reservation that had been arranged over the phone was for an occupied unit. Before I even had the chance to freak out over the mixup, Tony at the office was quickly finding solutions for me, and I got a bigger unit, while honoring the lower price that was originally arranged. Excellent service with a smile, completely non-stressful process, more than makes up for the creepy basement unit I ended up with. Btw, apparently they check your credit history? Did not know that. I worked with Tony and Marlon in NY recent leasing then move to MMS. The service was top notch, and after comparing my options MMS gave me the most accessibility along with the size storage I needed. Toni was absolutely professional during my initial visit and showed me several different rooms available, and proactively offered a 3rd fl storage unit very close to the elevator. This is more secure in my opinion and also more flood proof. Seeing I was thirsty (took city bike to the location) I was offered a free bottle of water with a cup right away. I won't talk about deals but after making comparisons with public storage and POD, MMS was the best option. They went above and beyond to make sure i was 100% happy, lets just say. I wanted a good location near my new home and good security so I don't have to worry about random people breaking in (i have rented storage space from a sketchy place before in Newark NJ) and this location suited me perfectly. Moving a 10 ft truck full of boxes and furniture was a breeze as they had plenty of dollies to go around. Marlon was super helpful in manning the massive elevator and the move in was done in 40mins with two friends. I had plenty of room to put my stuff down while unloading, and the ground was kept very clean so I did not worry about putting my snowboard and water bottle on the ground. All in all lets just say if you want a good quality storage space that's accessible with super helpful staff, I'd go with mms. I didn't over pay for my 10x5 storage which was my worry in the beginning. Just talk to them to see what they offer and good luck with your next move. read more

I've been a MMS customer for probably 40 years (I know- I should have bought a condo for my stuff!). My business and personal needs have shifted over the years and MMS is always my go-to to help with transitions and storage needs in various parts of Manhattan. I've been a customer at several locations, but have never written a review before. I am writing this review as a small way to show my immense appreciation for the team at 510-531 W 21st Street, NYC 10011. They are all very cordial, kind and helpful, but a few people have especially helped me complete my recent very difficult move. Tony Baron helps me most often and always finds solutions for some pretty thorny issues I face. Cynthia has been an outstanding manager and problem-solver when Tony consulted her on my behalf, and patiently helped me find the right second room for me (I know.... second room?... it's embarrassing- but moving issues coming out of the pandemic..) and went out of her way to prepare the room for my move. Larry helped me enormously with elevator and access assistance, and when he saw me despairing about this move, he offered beautiful, wise advice and encouragement exactly when I needed it and got me going again!! Thank you Larry!! Jules worked very hard on this move as well, helping me cancel one room and sign up for a different room when the first room did not work out. Then, when I thought I finally had this big move into storage figured out - I was wrong. I showed up exhausted on the hottest day of the year with even more stuff. I wanted to toss it since I couldn't deal it - it was a relatively small number of items and was my most important stuff that I intentionally left for last after my main big move into storage, and I was distraught. That's when I met a true angel - Thierry Stanley, a wonderful young assistant manager greeted me with a big smile and told me not to worry - that he would go to my room and see if there was space that I couldn't see in my exhausted tired HOT sweaty state. He quickly showed me where items stored in the front could be rearranged to accommodate everything safely. And he helped me do it! I was overwhelmed by his kindness, skill, ability to just step up and solve my serious problem - and all in 100+ heat with no A/C at this location! - and get me back on my way, able to finally complete this very difficult move!! THIERRY- TONS OF THANK YOUS AGAIN!! MMS is very lucky to have such wonderful people on staff. And as a customer, I felt blessed to have this team this summer!! Thank you all! read more

Storage locker visits are generally not the most 'looked forward' to in one's life, usually generating an involuntary 'eye-roll' or two. However I have to say that my experience with Manhattan Mini Storage has been quite exceptional, and that is because their sales associate Kim at the front desk for the last two or three years has always been so warm, charming, accommodating and just plain awesome. :) Kim McIntosh has always managed to put a smile on my face, whether I am moving in all my stuff because I lost my apartment, broke up with my boyfriend, or have a past due balance beyond belief. Somehow she finds a way to make everything work out, and is patient beyond belief (I know I can be a handful I can just imagine everyone else) If it wasn't for people like Kim, the visit to Manhattan Mini Storage would be pretty blah..... thank goodness for people like her :) read more

I was very pleased that he was open to fixing what went wrong before. When I spoke to him on the phone, he agreed to give me a credit for my first month's rent for the unit. I thought this was a good solution and I feel comfortable giving this business a positive review. I was super stressed (as anyone is when moving in NYC!) and he made me feel at peace and at ease throughout the whole process. I've worked with Manhattan Mini Storage for the last 5 years on a back to school donation drive for homeless children. They place boxes in their lobby, promote the drive through social media channels and on their LED screens, as well as provide pickups and delivery of all the supplies at the end of the drive. Everyone, from the top down has always been a pleasure to work with. This past December, we received an extremely large donation to be stored until August. I spoke with MMS and within 24 hours I had 4 units waiting for me at the 21st Street South building. Tony helped me through the enrollment process and everything was made incredibly easy. When I needed an extra unit, it was provided on the spot. These past few months as I've been delivering the supplies, they've been extremely friendly and fun to work with. Tony and Marlon have helped me through the accounting and closing out process and have done everything to make emptying 5 units as easy as possible. They've even left the office to help me with the freight elevator. The location is clean and very accessible. The staff is friendly. I hope I am able to work with them again soon. read more

I had a storage unit here last year. They definitely lured me in to get a unit by offering attractive prices. When they did not have the room I had originally booked, they offered me a bigger room, definitely good. After a month, I got a call that my originally requested room is now available so I should move my stuff to that one. I agreed and moved to the storage unit in the basement, that was one of the biggest mistakes. When Sandy happened, the whole basement was flooded. They did not take any effort to notify customer of potential damage to their building before Sandy. My books, gifts, Home theater system everything was ruined. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think about all the stuff I lost during that flood. They did not help at all with respect to cleanup. They gave us masks and told us that you will go downstairs on your own risk. They did not reimburse for any damages. The rental insurance company also did not do anything. Suddenly I had lost my belongings that I had cherished. I would not recommend Manhattan Mini Storage to anybody. read more
