It was appalling and despicable the way I was treated at this business. I saw a post on Instagram for an event, a Father's Day Soiree, at Manhattan Denim, which was on their account. I was already in the South Bay and it looked like a fun event to attend. When I went to get a cracker to eat, one of the staff members asked me what I was doing. This was past 3:30pm and on the Instagram post, the event started at 3:00pm. She also said that it was a private event and asked if I had an invitation. I told her I was here for the event and I saw it on Instagram. It does not say anywhere that it was a private event or it was by invitation only. Also, there was no check-in or guest list at the event. Another staff member asked me to leave because he said I was looking at websites on my phone and comparison shopping. He falsely accused me of doing something I was not, but even if I was, I don't understand why that would be an issue. Also, after a bartender had already served me a cocktail, the staff asked me to show my passport because they said I didn't look old enough to drink. Why would I need to carry my passport to attend events or go shopping? By the way, I am over 50 years old. In addition, another staff commented they were concerned that I was event hopping. I asked why that would be an issue and she simply said it sounded like I was just going to events. This staff member didn't know what events I was attending and what I had purchased at the other events and it shouldn't matter as well. I am still shocked at what happened on Saturday. This business needs to take a course on how to provide customer service and they need to learn how to treat people. read more

I can't speak about the denim, but I can say that Christina (who was working at the time we stopped by today) was extremely sweet and helpful... My bf has purchased some sweet Alternative Apparel tops at this store as well as the coolest Detroit Pistons vintage cap you've ever seen... I wear it all the time! Of course, I couldn't walk out empty handed, so I walked out with an Alternative Apparel long sleeve wrap around shirt - charcoal color. It's so cute and it was 1/2 the price of similar ones I've seen... only $35! I ventured in here with intentions of purchasing my girl a new pair of 7 or William Rast jeans. We didn't come here specifically for the denim. We were in town for Labor Day. The sales associate here was horrible. Absolutely, no acknowledgement. The selection and merchandising here is great. Men's on one side, women's on the other. There were a couple pieces I liked. Especially the vintage Majestic MLB tees. Unfortunately, the lack of acknowledgement was the deal breaker for me. I refuse to spend money at an establishment that won't acknowledge me. Updated Review: February 2010 Just went back to Manhattan Denim last Saturday. Unbelievable selection of handbags, scarves, coats, jewelry, and everything else you need for an amazing ensemble. Bought a great pair of G-Star jeans and a cool Cohesive shirt for my brother. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review: 2009 High Fashion Denim in the South Bay. This shop gets it right ~ a perfect one stop shop to try on every hot new denim brand for men and women. They also have James Perse shirts for men- which is an excellent brand, and a variety of different tops for women. The owners are a young local Manhattan Beach couple who are super friendly and often host wine tastings and events at their boutique. Manhattan Denim is a store I stumbled across because of a top I received as a birthday present. I had the top with a tag attached, but no receipt and no price. I was helped by an associate who was very nice and personable. She asked for information to help track down the original transaction, which leads me to say that they have an EXCELLENT system for customer history. I was able to exchange the item easily. Since this day, I have continued to shop here and every time the customer service exceeds my expectations. I ask for help and for opinions when I am trying things on, and I walk out of their store having bought items I both use and love. 5 STARS! read more

I was recently vacationing in the Hermosa Beach area and doing some shopping in Manhattan beach. I love boutiques for finding unique items when I am traveling to take home. There was an adorable tank with silver sequins in the window. I bought it and a scarf, which was very different and priced much higher in another boutique around the corner. I was impressed with a few items in this store. It looks like they mostly cater to clients looking for denim. I like trendy, unique finds. I would shop there again, if in town. read more

My favorite local spot to shop! Manhattan Denim has everything you need without having to leave the beach. I usually stop in at least once a month to see what new luxury items have come in. I buy all my jeans here..they have the best selection of designer denim. Right now they have some great colored denim and jean shorts, perfect for summer! You can also find cute tops and accessories for a day at the beach or a night out on the town. The staff is friendly, fashionable, and knowledgeable. Ask for Dawn, who's there most days. She'll never steer you in the wrong direction. She'll help dress you or find you the perfect gift whether it's for your mom or your boyfriend. This is my first and usually last stop when shopping for clothing. From the moment I walk in until the time I leave I am always given excellent service. I have bought several pairs of jeans, shirts, t-shirts and many accessories from here. You will find a lot of cool jewelry for men (i.e. necklaces, bracelets) here that you will not find in other stores...and to top it off they always offer me a tasty ice cold beer to enjoy while shopping in the store. read more

I'm a Jeans & T-Shirt guy and I know there's a difference between jeans that look good on a model and jeans that are going to make me look good. When I stopped by Manhattan Denim I was lucky to find Pam who understood exactly what I meant and was able to steer me toward some jeans that had the perfect fit for me. There are more places to buy jeans and T-Shirts than to get a cup of coffee these days but finding one without the Attitude I don't need and with someone who's friendly and knowledgeable about what fits will look good on me is a find worth a review. Manhattan Denim has become my one stop shop in MB. Not only can I always find the exact jeans I am looking for, now their assortment is so broad I am going their for everything....they carry awesome jewelry, shoes, scarves, bags (I am addicted to Monserat de Lucca because they are totally unique, high quality and reasonable). I even bought sweaters and a winter coat. The extra bonus is it's the only boutique my boyfriend will want to come to...no matter what mood he is in, he always walks away with jeans, a button down for the weekend, or a T-shirt for one of his favorite teams. I went to this store for an intimate shopping event with co-workers. I tried on a pair of jeans that were absolutely perfect so I got them, and then they ripped in multiple areas during my first use. The belt loops ripped off, the inseam split open... Clearly this was a pair of faulty jeans because the brand is very high-end. I called Manhattan Denim asking if there was anything they could do and they told me they couldn't help me and that I "must have been too big for that pair." They told me the brand wouldn't even take them back if I tried and they assured me they contacted them to check. I then took it upon myself to contact the brand, McGuire Denim, and within 24 hours, they gave me a return address and let me know they are sending me a new pair. Manhattan Denim clearly did not check with the brand, and they did nothing to help me in my situation. Don't buy your clothes from this store, as the customer service is awful--if anything happens to your apparel, they won't help you whatsoever. Great location, friendly staff, and a clean store don't matter in my book without excellent customer service. I'll stick to Nordstrom. read more

They have a decent selection of denim and big dressing rooms. The staff is hit or miss with customer service. Catch the right associate and it can be pleasant. It's a waste of time and not worth the stop when jeans go for $200. Pass. There are better shops in MB who actually work for your business. read more

I have been shopping at Manhattan Denim for the past 3 years or so...... I ALWAYS find what I'm looking for there and have always been very happy with my purchases! It really is the only clothing store I shop at in the South Bay. If I can't find a specific item the sales staff will find it for me- They are so helpful and knowlegeable about their products and fashion in general, it is like having a personal stylist everytime I visit! They make special orders for their clientele, and are constantly updating their inventory and selection. There have been occaisions where I have stopped in the store twice in a given week and found completely new items. I especially love their selection of Chan Luu jewlry, AG Jeans and retro t-shirts. Most recently, I stopped in last Saturday not looking for anything in particular and walked out with 5 completely awesome items. I have been in Manhattan Denim before and frequently pass by. Yesterday, I was walking by and thought of them to get some Havanas sandals. I recall them carrying this brand. They weren't visable. I walked in and didn't see anyone and proceeded to the back of the store. I smelled an aroma of food and found the one sales clerk working, eating behind the desk. She never attempted to greet me but covered her mouth. So I ask: "Where do I find the sandals?" She says nothing (as her mouth is full of food), but points over to the corner; not even getting up out of her seat. I walk to the corner and was so shocked that it didn't even hit me for a few seconds what was happening. All the while, she continues eating and sitting at her seat; still never speaking, helping or even greeting me. I walk out and not a sound or movement. She continued eating. Later I walked by and she was still sitting in the same seat behind the desk but texting. With sales clerks like that: GOING OUT OF BUSINESS sale when it is 90% off will be when I return.
