I attended a charity boxing event to fight cancer at the Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center. The location is really conveniently located by a Penn Station entrance. Inside, the vibe had a good balance between modern and contemporary lighting and presentation with a classic and historical looking structure (especially the ceiling painting). The event was extremely well run and organized. The staff was very friendly. Everything was executed without issue and everything was great. Fantastic lighting, led walls, step and repeat signage for the event, sound system, food presentation, etc - it was all top notch. read more

Despite this venue being convenient to access in terms of having numerous train lines in close proximity, it is not the ideal place to attend for events. Went to the Meek Mill concert & Dussepalooza event here twice and had a fairly decent time. I was on the ground level for the Meek Mill concert event and someone decided to throw up......maintenance did not address the issue so essentially my friend and I had to take a few steps back from the area to avoid stepping in it. The Dussepalooza events were a different experience due to having access to the balcony level where you are able to sit down instead of standing up the entire time. There were also bars up there that provided prompt service. Heads up, if you get hungry, you're forced to go to Chiptole across the street or to the diner next door before or after the event. read more

I've attended numerous career fairs at this venue and find the space too small although there are many rooms. The career fair is held at the first room upon entering the Manhattan Center. It truly was like squeezing an adult size elephant into a compact car. I was nearly bumping to the person behind me while waiting on line to speak to a HR representative at the prospective employer's booth. It has a very outdated red velvet with pink opera style format of a venue. There is carpet which is extremely worn for a venue which people constantly trip on. read more

{3.5ish} The Manhattan Center is an interesting building. From the outside it looks like any other office or residential building in midtown. Enter the lobby, head up in the elevators and you'll find yourself on the 7th floor (I think) in a small ballroom. The room is beautiful too, specifically the ceiling... the detail and pattern is just fantastic. You'd never know you were in midtown... I visited the MC this week for, of all things, a wrestling event and was surprised at how well the event worked inside the room. The ring was set up in the middle of the room and there wasn't a bad seat in the place - not even up on the balcony. The high ceilings have great acoustics and make jumping off the top ropes easy! While the overall space is nice and good for an event or concert there are a couple things that could use some updating. The chairs for example are very blah, cushions worn out a little, not the most comfortable. And the bathrooms are small and really dated. Don't let these couple negatives deter you from attending an event at the Manhattan Center though. It's still a nice venue, I'd go back for another show. read more

Years after attending a training session at this location I have to knock my stars rating down for this place. If I could give it zero stars, I would. Here's the story. First note: I have waited a month before writing this review. Why? I wrote to the email addresses listed on the Manhattan Center's web site here: http://www.mceventsnyc.com/contact ahead of time *twice* to see if I could resolve this issue directly with the venue. Both emails have been soundly ignored by every individual listed on that page and thus, I write this review as both a warning and log of my experience. In early October I attended an event at the center where heavy security was set up outside. In sharp contrast to the training I had attended in 2013 (where there had been zero security in front) there were barriers set up, a bucket to pour out water bottles and garbage cans. I had a bag with a camera, laptop among other things I carry daily when I am working on articles for my web site. I was asked to have my bag inspected - which was expected. First I was asked to toss out my latte. Sure, no problem, it was mostly done. Then I began to notice that other people were being let in quickly with only a glance into their bags. Meanwhile I was asked to take out everything from almost every pocket of my bag. I literally had to take out everything from my keys to my camera to snacks I had in my bag. We're talking TSA level check in here. This was not ideal (as I was in a rush to get in) but I dealt with it. Then they saw my medicine. Without getting two personal, at all times I carry two types of medicine with me that I need to LIVE. However this was deemed unacceptable by the security. I was told I either threw out the medicine or I was not allowed in. They gave me some bizarre reasoning about the medicine being mixed (two types of meds in one bottle) and therefore it was my fault. To paraphrase what the head guard said "You should have left them in the prescription bottles." I had come this far so I tossed out four pills (if it had been more I would not have done so) and ran in. This same exact bottle of meds has gone with me on several flights around the country (with many more than four pills) and the TSA has never had an issue - yet some arbitrary rule at the Manhattan Center prevented this. I even mentioned that I had attended a corporate training there before with no issues but to no avail. Another note: I made sure to ask the guard if this was a rule set up be the venue, the security company themselves or the larger event I was attending and they told me it was the Manhattan Center itself. This is why I am not mentioning the event in question since they had nothing to do with this rule. I hope to never have to go back to this venue every again. I felt humiliated, profiled and confused at the entire experience. read more

Went here last night to see Joe Rogan's comedy tour for my bday. We ordered tickets online decided on the balcony seats bc it looked as though the seats down low might not be that great since every seat is on the same level. Where we sat - upper stage left, each row had its own level. The elevator situation getting up to the 7th floor was a breeze for us - arrived at the venue around 7:45, walked through their joke of security within minutes and was on the elevator within 5 minutes upon entering the lobby. We thought about buying some drinks but the lines were out the door and we thought the show was going to start sooner rather than later, so we found our seats and stayed put. The chairs are old fashioned venue chairs... uncomrtable after an hour. I normally don't do this, but I just feel the need to add this in... (BTW what I'm to complain about does not that this affect my rating in any way but of by some grace of god the couple who sat next to us is reading this review I would just like to say YOU ARE VERY RUDE and inconsiderate.) These jerks came in around 9pm - show started at 8:30, ticket time was 8pm.... they litereally talked throughout the entire show and I could barely hear 1/2 Joe's jokes bc I heard Charlie Brown's teacher coming from my left.... Is a comedy show really the time to strike up a convo?!!! They kept getting up and coming back with drinks too so I know they were drunk. I wish the bar cut people off once the main act comes out... read more

Awesome location and super convenient with A, C, E trains a couple steps away. Most other subway lines all at a couple to a few blocks of walking distance. Not hard to find and restaurants and theatres around. Good security, clean and organized place. Pretty spacious and a decent sized venue space. Hillsong church at this location every Sundays except for certain special services. Three floors and the restrooms are all super clean and nice. read more

I try to come here every Sunday for Hillsong NYC church service! Here you will experience the true presence of The Lord as you worship with everyone. Each service is powerful as it leaves you feeling refreshed and inspired! :) This place is filled with great vibes, great music, and beautiful colorful strobe lights as you dance, sing, and worship. Was here for TNA (yes I know its 'fake') and while the wrestlers put on a great show, the Manhattan Center did not. We asked the guards if they have food upstairs(burgers, chicken, dogs) and they said yes. We get up there and its only chips and candy. Then we tried going across the street for food and security wouldn't allow it. I know its for security reasons but they could of told us the truth about the food situation. So chips for dinner yay! The bathrooms are outdated like other reviewers have stated and you have to go through a huge maze to find them. I prefer the NYCB theatre in long Island or the Westchester county center in White Plains. read more

I have been to the Manhattan Center multiple times, but this was the first time I was in "The Grand". Prior to this event I have seen many concerts at the Hammerstein Ballroom, but who knew there was another ballroom above it on the 7th floor. I saw Hugh Laurie and the Copper Bottom band at this venue. It definitely felt more like a real ballroom. It was carpeted and the seats were not bolted to the floor, although I think they were tied together. It was a somewhat smaller venue then Hammerstein, but it was appropriate for the concert. The sound was great and I could see the stage while sitting. What more could you ask for? This is a great venue. 4 stars. Would return again! read more

Wife's company help a party here. Venue was nicely decorated and comfortable. They had a nice dance floor setup and we were treated to a private concert from Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, and Rick Springfield. Sound was really good. read more

I came here at the end of January for WWE Raw25. I'm a big wrestling fan so I came all the way here for Raw25 (I live in Rhode Island). Let me first say, the staff is very nice and helpful. When I got here I only had to wait outside for about 5-10 minutes. The line moved quickly to get inside. I can't go through metal detectors so they patted me down which is what usually happens when I go to wrestling events and I'm fine with it. It didn't take long at all. For the event we had to take the elevator up to the 7th floor I think it was in The Grand Ballroom. Their was a merchandise stand right near the elevator but I think WWE set it up. I got a shirt and had to go to the bathroom. Finding the bathroom was an adventure and the bathroom wasn't that nice. After my adventure I traced my footsteps back to the merchandise stand and found my friend. We went into the room and found our seats. About halfway through the event I cut my finger on my sign (yes people bring signs to wrestling events). I asked one of the security guard/employee people if he had any bandaids. He didn't but told me to go to the first floor and ask at the front desk. I got to the front desk and they didn't have any bandaids but the guy their said to go to the bathroom downstairs, wash my hands and come back. Once I returned he gave me some rubbing alcohol to put on my cut, I did and surprisingly it didn't hurt. Next he gave me some gauze to wrap around my cut and by the time I got back to my seat it had stopped bleeding. It took a little while to do everything but it helped a lot. Raw25 was pretty good. I wasn't a big fan of the stadium/arena itself. This is the first stadium I didn't get any food or drinks at. It's hard to say if I would go back or not because I live so far away but if WWE had a televised event here again I would probably come back. read more

Went to the Hip show here a few weeks ago. Morrissey was playing downstairs, so we were up on the seventh floor at the Grand Ballroom. Great space for the most part - not too big but a good stage presence. My one problem with this venue, and why I didn't give it more stars is that the floor is carpeted.
