50. Pad Thai Woon Sen

Hidden Thai Revival with a Grilled Cheese Soul -- A Gem Reborn By: Flight Bites Journal | August 2025 I eat everywhere--from hidden gems in the Baja hills to city icons in Toronto, and everything from poutine to poke bowls. But last night, somewhere familiar-yet-new delivered a knockout Thai experience that caught me completely off guard. You know the kind of place that quietly gets everything right? Yeah. That. A few years ago, my wife Cheryl and I had dinner at a cozy Thai spot run by an incredibly talented owner-chef whose dishes carried that deep, soulful balance of spice, citrus, and comfort. Fast-forward to now: the place has changed hands--but the magic? Still there, and then some. Here's the twist: the new owner? They're the same creative behind a grilled cheese restaurant (yes, really) just south of here--one that was beloved until the building was sold out from under them. When the original Thai chef handed over the keys, he didn't just walk away. He taught the new team everything. Like a culinary handoff with soul. We ordered: * Pad Thai - Absolute perfection. The noodles were silky but firm, coated in a tamarind-kissed sauce that hits that sweet-savory-nutty trifecta. Not cloying. Not greasy. Just clean, bright, and authentic. * Traditional Thai Soup (Tom Yum?) - Deeply aromatic with lemongrass, kaffir lime, and a hit of heat that doesn't scream--it sings. * Cheryl's entrée - (A stir-fry, maybe Pad Krapow?) Balanced, vibrant, and addictive. She didn't want to share. I don't blame her. And this is coming from someone who literally eats across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Bahamas for a living (aviators gotta eat). This place? Top two Thai restaurants I've been to--anywhere. It's more than a menu. It's a story: a legacy passed down, fused with resilience and a new chapter. The kind of place you quietly want to gatekeep but can't help raving about. The grilled cheese guy learned to cook Thai--and it's not a gimmick. It's fantastic. Danny, Murrells Inlet Final Verdict: 9.6/10 Come for the Pad Thai. Stay for the quiet brilliance of a comeback story served in a bowl.

White Rice

The food tasted fine but the way it was packaged is the most harmful way possible to anyone's health, especially for the price paid. Hot items should never go in flimsy plastic containers, yet they served the side of white rice in a container that is clearly not made for hot food. The container was not even fully closed because of its cheap material. It was cold by the time we got home 10 min later from getting takeout. To give barely any rice and package it in the cheapest container that is harmful to the health of your customers while charging premium prices is why we will never return here again. Plenty of other Thai restaurants do it better around here.

Restaurant is under new management! Had lunch today at this fairly new place: Incredible flavor!!! Had the green curry with scallops. Perfectly balanced and seasoned! My daughter had the Pad Woo Sen! Generous portions! Great service! Will be back!!!

He said it would be 20 more minutes. We drove around for a while and then came back at 6:40. At 6:58 he brought our food out and then said if we wanted the spring rolls we would have to wait 10 more minutes. I explained to him that had already been over an hour. He argued with me and when I told him what time we called in the order he harumphed and said, "so you don't want the spring rolls?" Uh..no. Then he rang up our order and told us one price and then said hang out and started over and our total price increased by almost $20. As another reviewer mentioned, any prices you can find online are very outdated. It was $99 for four entrees. Now for the food. The food was good. If you think...I like it mild but I would like just a small little kick to it..DO NOT order it medium unless you want to put your toilet paper in the freezer. I can do spice but this was ridiculous. Between the three of us who ordered medium, we had to add almost two containers of sour cream to make it edible. I get the massaman curry because I like the peanuts in it. My massaman curry had a total of two peanuts. We will not be going back.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between upscale and comfortable--dim warm lighting, modern Asian décor, a touch of Christmas, and an energy that feels inviting without being overwhelming. Food Quality: Exceptional The star of the experience is always the food. Every dish arrives beautifully plated and bursting with flavor. The Chang's Vegetarian Lettuce Wraps are still unmatched--crisp, refreshing, and full of savory goodness. The Mongolian Beef is tender and richly caramelized. Drinks: Creative & Well-Balanced PF Chang's drink menu deserves just as much praise. Cocktails like the Tokyo Mule and Red Crane Sangria are surprisingly sophisticated for a chain restaurant, blending traditional flavors with modern presentation. Service & Experience: Service is typically excellent--servers are knowledgeable about the menu, quick to offer recommendations, and attentive without hovering, and food quality remains consistent across different locations. Manager Simone came out to greet us and make sure we have a great experience. I will definitely continue to frequent PF Changs.

Server was very pleasant, and accommodated us with our separate checks. We all got waters, and for drink I had the Cherry Blossom drink, which was sweet and very good. For appetizers, My part of the party got the dumplings, and a crab rangoon. Both were very good and enjoyable. For Dinner, got the special on the back of the menu, where i ordered the Sesame Chicken with white rice and vegetable eggroll. Meal was delicious and filling. Even took home a to go container. Cost about 100.00 for our part of the bill. Paid with credit card, and left a cash tip. Womens restrooms were clean. Enjoyed the food, and service was on par, making sure of refills and communication of being out of an item. Will definitely come here again!
