Not impressed. I was aware that parties were encouraged to come to this restaurant. DO NOT EVEN TRY. While organizing this, the first person we talked to on the phone (a man server) was polite and very helpful. The next time, the owner (female) was rude right off the bat, upped our security deposit, acted extremely unprofessional, told us if we brought a cake it would cost $70.00 to CUT IT! No customer service skills. Still giving this place a chance, we went, and WOW how we regret that. While trying to put balloons up for the surprise, we got told that we can't do that, that we have to pay them to do that. Drinks and food were slow to come out, barely saw the server, and the owner was STILL RUDE. Food wasn't great for how much you spent either. We were the one of the 3 tables in the place, and they acted as if we were an inconvenience to them.. but we were their only source of money for a Thursday night. While trying to pay just to get out of there, the server made it our duty to split the bill, thinking that we should figure it out all on our own. Apparently, they don't do that, and leave it to the customers to do it. They need to learn customer service, update their billing software, learn how to speak nicely, decrease their prices in cheaply made food, and not jip people by adding to their bill. Great cozy place, it has a real pizza oven. The owner is Italian and you can see her influence everywhere. This place doesn't feel like the typical Americanized Italian restaurant, but rather original. We had pizzas, we tried the prosciutto cotto and the capricciosa. Both of them were outstanding, properly cooked and crusty. One of the kids wanted a pineapple pizza but they don't have it in the menu. That tells you that this is a real Italian place! Hawaiian pizza is illegal in Italy so when you see a place that offers it, you know it's not good. :) I would totally go back there again. read more

Incredibly disappointed. Our white wine came out warm. We had to send it back. My pasta was overcooked and when I asked if they could prepare another plate "al dente" the server said she was sorry and she would get it out to me immediately. 15 minutes later she came back to our table and said the chef refused to make me another plate. She felt horrible. I kindly approached the owner to let her know what the chef did and she told me off. She told me that after tasting my pasta it was fine and that she didn't need my business. I have never been to a restaurant where we were treated so badly. I would never recommend this restaurant. I can guarantee you that I will never go there again. read more

We have come here many times over the years, hoping to find a reason to continue coming, but this visit may well be our last. The place feels hurried, disorganized, the staff changes frequently, food often arrives lukewarm, and the owner seems unconcerned about it all. Many of the dishes that we have tried look different each time we order them, so consistency is missing, which is not a good thing. Too many surprises. Dining should be a pleasure, not a stress. Today I went here with my family and my lobster sauce in my pasta was horrible. My family ordered three of the same pasta, they all three had inconsistency with there sauce. Our waiter seems like she thinks we are not educated in the Italian culture, when we have Italian in our blood. I was excited at first but even a regular non authentic restaurant was highly recommended. They wouldn't swap out dishes, nor give us extra side of sauce. (The waitress said the sauce is pre portioned...when all three of the same dishes were all different portions of sauce). We had 5 of the same dishes and 3 dishes were not pleasant. If you like basic food that does not have flavour this place is recommended. I hope going forward no one else feels the way we felt with the waitress. She was brunet, Caucasian and a little bit older in age. She might be new but definitely not the best waitress either. Her service was terrible. This place is ONLY good for a few of there red sauces. read more

Out with friends and looking for a place to eat, we saw a sign offering brunch at Mangia E Scappa. The restaurant was empty (around 11:30am) so we where seated right away. Our waitress was friendly and we received our drinks and food quickly. We ended up order there amazing 4 cheese pizza, and wow! I would return just for that. I say the only con would be that the restaurant is kind of hidden, so without the sign we would not have known it was there. read more

Granted, the pizza is not for everyone. It is not what most Canadians think of as pizza, but it is very close to what you'd get if you were in Italy. NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE! Turned into a complete gong show. I was in Italy a few months ago and was looking forward to reliving the experience at a fine Italian restaurant in Fort Langley. I booked the place for my Mother`s Surprise 60th birthday and had been asked on the phone if I would like to bring my own cake. I thought that was a good idea so we could put pretty candles on it, etc. I called in again to pay for my deposit and was told it was $200 for a deposit...after I had already been told it was $100. The woman sounded extremely irritated as soon as we began our conversation, as though I was inconveniencing them by even calling the restaurant (TO PAY THEM A DEPOSIT). So naturally we thought it was a good idea to bring the big 60 balloons to attach to my Mom`s chair. The woman owner snapped at us for bringing in any sort of decorations and said that they would rather set them up so they can get paid for a decoration setup fee...because "we have to make money somehow!" Pretty sure you're making money off of 20 people eating dinner. When the cake was brought in the woman owner was choked and said we're not allowed bringing a cake....wait..I'm confused...I was told on the phone that I should bring a cake. Then they handed us a giant bill (of course they refuse to separate it) with all of our orders PLUS a cake fee of 3.50 X 20 people. We told them only 15 people are eating cake as some have gluten allergies and specific diets. They said they would charge it for 15 and then refused to change it from the bill. So $70 just for them to slice a cake that cost much less. PLUS they charged us a decorating fee (huh?) While people were sitting there calculating who owes what..which was extremely awkward because we were told my dad has to pay the entire bill of $800 and everyone has to give him what they owe. Is my dad an ATM who has an abundance of change in his wallet to give back to each individual couple? The waiter then let people pay their portion at the till and didn't even keep count of who paid what. Didn't cross each item off the bill while people were paying and we were left with $480 remaining. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?? My dad was told to pay the remaining $480 ..meanwhile they already still had my $100 deposit. It made no sense whatsoever. The woman owner was completely rude and started calling us names during all of the confusion. I was appalled and tried to distract my mom and get her out of the restaurant so she wouldn't be upset and have her birthday ruined. Ahhh if I could do it over again I would have read the reviews online and booked a different restaurant. Sadly it ruined a lot of the guests experiences and people left feeling irritated at how we were all treated and how expensive it ended up being. read more

Excellent. I spent many months in northern Italy before being married. My wife and I spent plenty of time in Italy dating and after marriage in Italy while on vacation while I was stationed in Germany. This as close to Italian food you can get. The added store brings back memories of our local Italian store located a few villages away in Germany, all imported goods. So many happy memories that we not only ate there once, or twice but three times in a 10 day span. Recommend! read more

Been there half a dozen times now and can't say enough about it. Never had a bad experience. Food has always been good. Service friendly and reasonably fast. We usually get the specials and a couple of times I was tempted to lick the plate. Shared a Cannelloni dinner and a Veal/Prawn dinner with my wife the other night. My bf is Italian and I lived in Italy for 7 years, we tell you: Stay away from this place--pricey food, bad taste&quality, rude owner, a rip off. We spent 23+$ for a pizza that was almost half burned(black!), besides, the pizza had the worst combination of toppings ever, tasted awful. My Italian bf ordered a café corretto sambuco which is a shot of expresso and a SMALL amount of sambuco liquore, at other Italian restaurants, this costs 4.5$ as a whole, but at THIS place, the owner charged us 3+$ for the expresso and 8+$ for sambuco!!!Even the Italian barista there told us this was wrong and was ready to correct the bill for us BUT the owner woman came and told us "I'm the OWNER this is the price." So in the end that little expresso cost us 13+$. Haha. The owner earned 13+$ but she loses customers. Good maths. read more

My experience could not have been worse. While I did have an issue with our food coming out 15 minutes after the rest of our party, my greatest concern was with the very RUDE owner. When I went to talk to her about my poor dining experience, not only did she not listen, she jumped up from her office desk and aggressively rushing by me standing at her office door to speak to the rest of our dinner party, trying to save face with our group. Slow service, food brought out late, multiple un-answered requests for drinks, and a very RUDE owner. I had a very POOR experience at this restaurant and would not recommend this venue to anyone. I have been here several times now and this place (food and service) is inconsistent at best. Had a group of 7 in for a birthday dinner on Saturday night and meals (even though it took an hour and a half to get our food) and service was OK; the night ended, however, with the owner reprimanding me for bringing in our own birthday cake even though we had been told by staff it was permitted, and they charged us $2.50 each to serve it! Owner said she had talked to me in the morning and told me no, an outside cake was not permitted and then argued with me when I said I hadn't talked to anyone on the phone! I liked the name of the restaurant and the Italian décor look. I have ordered the pizza margarita once before for take out when out in about walking around Fort Langley and it was not bad and wanted to come back for a sit down dinner one time. I went with a group of seven and we ordered a mix of items. Most had pizza but one had spaghetti alle vongole (with clams). Lots of clams and pasta done well. They were very happy with it. Two persons had the prosciutto and arugula and were very happy with their pizza. One had the pesto and again very happy with their pizza. Two persons had the quattro formaggi and they were very disappointed. It didn't seem to have more than 2 types of cheese on it and it was done on a white sauce instead of tomato base. Much debate which way is better but needless to say neither person liked this pizza. I had the prosciutto cotto and fungi. Now I have eaten a lot of Neplolitan pizza so much to compare to. The crust, sauce and mozzarella were all ok to good. Mushrooms were just ok but I what I wasnt happy with was the prosciutto cotto (ham). I would of preferred be the authentic Italian ham and not just a Canadian version of ham. Their is a big difference and this is of course how this pizza is made hence the name. Crust a bit soft in middle but this is hard to do with the ovens out there. We tried the cannoli and it was very good. One of the better ones out their. Also very good was the Fritta Fritta. Highly recommend. I would recommend to owner to teach their staff how to make espresso drinks and how to sever them. Something important with an Italian Restaurant read more

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THE OWNER!!! I wanted to buy some cured ham from their deli and the staff member who initially helped me was pleasant but the positives of the experience end there. The owner Julia (I believe) told me the product was $5.99 per 100 grams so I ordered some. When I got to the till I was told it was actually $8.99 per 100 grams. No offer to honour the quoted price so I just paid the amount asked. When I got out of the store I opened the ham and noticed a black hair covering several slices. I went back to the store and pointed it out to the owner. She said "that's funny, no one here has hair like that". No ownership of the problem or attempt to make it right. The owner did offer to refund my money but I stated I'd like the ham, just without the hair. I mentioned that it would have been good business practice to honour the price I was quoted when I agreed to buy the product, to which the owner said "what, you don't think it cost money to run this place?". Bothered by the denial that the hair could have some from her staff I asked if she was suggesting that it came from my family, who all have blond hair. At this point the owner said "you know what, I'd rather just give you your money back". With that sort of attitude I was no longer willing to support this business, took my money and left, but not before receiving some further attitude from the seemingly disgruntled owner. I will not be returning to this store, which is a shame as I like the products. For an owner to give that sort of attitude is inexcusable and just bad form. read more

Dishonest owners that run the place! Charged us $70 for a cake we brought and charged $5 for our decorations (balloons for a birthday party) Had the owner and server insult us! Very disappointing experience!!!!!!! Do not know how they are still operating! The other night I had a surprise party all set up for my mom's 60th birthday! This was an exciting time to celebrate her 60 years of life. At first the manager complained that we brought in balloons that said (60) and a banner that said "Happy Birthday," she said they do not allow decorations in their establishment. I was a little startled by how aggressive the manager was when she addressed our group about the decorations (totally unprofessional the way she handled herself, acting like we were children). We decided to not let that get to us and just enjoy ourselves. Once we got our dinner, not everyone got our meal close to the same time. One of our friends got her dinner 10-15 minutes later and they never apologized or even tried to take care of it on the bill. We let that go, and continued to enjoy ourselves (I will admit that the food was fairly good). Later on my dad brought out a cake and we sang happy birthday (I guess the owners did not appreciate the singing because they felt we were disrupting the entire restaurant, meaning only the two other tables). The server took the cake and cut it out and brought out about 15 pieces of cake (eve though I said about 5 of us don't want any) When I went up to ask for the bill because I wanted to pay for my grandpa, grandma and my fiancé he handed me a total bill. I asked to have them seperated because I had no idea what my grandparents ordered. He said they only do one bill for 7 and over. I asked to have him help me figure out what my grandparents ordered and he said "figure it out." I was startled by how rude the server was. I then noticed that the server charged $70 to serve a cake we brought!!!!!!!! $70! This was unbelievable. It also said, 20@ open food for $70. First there was not 20 people and the cake did not even have 20 slices and secondly, we asked to not have them all handed out because all the ladies did not want cake. So the server and manager argued with me! The owner called me names that I can not even mention on here. She was utterly rude, had the worst customer service, she made fun of my dad and called him annoying and laughed in my face. The total experience was a disaster! they would not take care of anything and instead argued some insane arguments (saying they are a service just like a doctors office provides a service) A very pitiful argument that makes no sense. I have never been insulted and bullied so much in a restaurant. Also we found extra charges that were because we brought decorations! There were a lot more insults they said to us but I don't have the patience to write it all out. This was a total disaster and my whole family and I will never ever come back to this horribly run establishment. It needs help. read more

Even though a reservation for 8 people was made a week ahead, they were obviously unprepared for us as well as disinterested. We experienced slow, inconsistent, terrible service and mediocre food. One meal was completely forgotten, then by the time it arrived the rest of us were finished. It also arrived cold and had to be cancelled. We were still charged for it and when I complained, the server actually challenged me. This restaurant could be wonderful with some training for staff, some organizational planning and some attention to goodwill from the owner. Based on other reviews that I see here, I suspect that none of those suggestions will be followed. There are other great restaurant choices in Fort Langley. read more

Just had a wonderful dinner with three friends to celebrate the New Year and we could not have had a more delightful time. The food was authentic Italian - four beautiful courses that started with the most succulent buffalo mozzarella, then lovely, creamy pasta with chicken and the highlight for me - a melt in your mouth beef with gnocchi. I would say you didn't need a knife but the Italians say 'you don't need teeth'! The closing chapter was a lovely cream cake with chocolate and hazelnut sauce. The service was professional and friendly with a decidedly family approach. All in one of my most memorable meals of 2015 and what a way to end the year! read more

Horrible service. Went there on Saturday July 25, order 2 Italian beers and pizza. The beers came warm. I called the owner to tell the beer was warm. She grab the bottles to check if I was telling the truth. Looks at me and says": " Funny. The beers are in the fridge." Turns her back and never came back. After that the server gave us the cold shoulder. I didn't ask for cold shoulder, but cold beer!!! Food is so so, price is way to high. Botton line: It's a tourist trap. Run away. read more

Imagine getting together with 7 other friends for someone's birthday having an amazing Italian dinner, great service with attentive waiters, and then getting your bill and it becomes an absolute gong show. That is what our night was like last night. The food was absolutely fantastic and authentic, took awhile to get, but was definitely worth the wait! The drinks and lemoncilla raspberry cake that we shared to celebrate were delicious. Everything was going along smoothly and lovely. And then we got the bill. What an absolute disaster. Apparently for groups 8 and over they won't split the bill for you. Don't get me wrong we knew about everything being lumped together on the same bill but didn't quite expect it to be like that. Usually you would expect if the bill was lumped together your waiter would help guide you through the process on how to split it up. But no. The waiter brought the bill, disappeared and left us trying to muddle through it. Gratuity is expected, tax is expected amd such, but it would have been nice if the tax wa somehow included in each individual meal. Our reciept had a list of the meals, the drinks, then underneath was the gratuity, and then the tax. So in the middle of a extremely classy restaurant we're all pulling out our phones and trying to figure out what portion of the bill belonged to which person, including the tax that we had to split as well as the gratuity. I don't mind paying my fair share at all! But felt somewhat bad to some of the group who didn't order a drink just the one meal but yet had to pay the same tax and and gratuity as everyone else. The waiter finally came back, and one person paid, while we were still trying to muddle through and then he disappeared again. What a gong show it was. I, sure it would have been an absolutely lovely night without a mar on it if that hadn't of happened, but unfortunately it did. One would expect that you have at least the waiter guide you through, or wait, why not just split up the bill like every other restaurant would do? I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant for groups of 8 or more. Up to that number would have been a fantastic time, but sadly our experience couldn't be described like that read more

When you order an expensive meal with friends and the food (chicken) comes to the table (battered) and after eating some you realize it is completely raw (not cooked whatsoever) and feel ill. I went to Mangia e Scappa for lunch on Friday and ordered Spaghetti and Meatballs. I was so disappointed. I would have expected exceptional meatballs coming from an Italian Restaurant but the meatballs were tough, spongy and flavourless. Boston pizza does a better job and I don't think Boston Pizza's spaghetti and meatballs are very good. They just were too small and they tasted frozen. Very very sad. Even the tomato sauce was horrible, over cooked and extremely salty. I also find it very discouraging when an authentic Italian Restaurant doesn't offer fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano. I had also ordered Tiramisu but at $10 a pop it was not worth that. I had also ordered an Americano with steamed cream but they didn't have enough cream to steam so I had to settle for milk. The coffee was not very good. Finally I was absolutely floored when I saw a cat walk past my table. I love animals but not in a restaurant, it seems very unprofessional and unsanitary. Overall this place lacks polish and it will be a long time before I would return to Mangia e Scappa. read more

we went there for the first time last week and was very disappointed. I made a reserversation but it was not needed as there was only 1 other couple there at 6:30pm. It took the uninterested server over 15 minutes to take our drink and dinner order. The Calamari was very bland and overcooked...very rubbery. the olives were delicous. We waited and waited for our dinner then i noticed a couple a few seats over looking confused...it appeared our dinner went to their table. i called the server over and we got our dinner. I had the bocco pizza which was supposed to come with boccini on it...guess they forgot to put it on. the pizza was very bland and lacking cheese. My friend had the carbonara which was ok at best...also bland and lacking cheese. No one ever came back to ask how our food was. we then waited for 30 minutes to have our plates taken away and be asked if we want dessert. I finally went up to the bar and asked for my bill. at the 40 min mark it showed up...we then walked down the street to Wendalls for dessert and coffee (which was very good). The service here was poor, with the exception of one server the rest were unorganized and completely disinterested..and the food was bland and really not very impressive at all. I had a terrible experience here. I will not be coming back. The food i ordered was 10 minutes late compared to everyone elses food. My server never came to check on my food so i had to let another server know that i did not like the dish i ordered. It smelled terrible and had an odd sour taste to it. The girl left and said she would talk to the kitchen. I sat there for over an hour wondering if she was going to come back and talk to me and ask what was wrong with the dish. I had to tell someone to take the food away because the smell was making everyone at my table feel sick. I did not feel any sort of hospitality towards me or my table. The bills finally came to my table and i was given a bill with an automatic 18% gratuity even though i had 1 bite of my food that didn't taste right. I was then told that it was policy that they do not take care of food because people do not like it which is fair i understand, its a small business. What upset me was the fact that i was not given the time of day at all. I wasn't even asked if there was anything wrong with it, which there was. Im sure they have food on their menu that is great, their service absolutely sucks. I will never waste my money there again to feel that uncomfortable again.
