I want to go back to Mangia e Scappa! We were with a group of 8 - at 5:45 with a reservation on a Saturday night. The service was swift, accurate, attentive and helpful. The prices were quite reasonable! We had all sorts of entrees, salads and appetizers. Highlights include the 1-pound Lasagna, the seared tuna salad, the Rigatoni Bolognese, the Fettucine with sausage and the Gnocchi. Usually I try to figure out who 'won' and picked the best entrée, but tonight EVERYONE won. I don't understand the negative reviews - our large group was served promptly on a fairly busy Saturday night. So maybe the people who mentioned long wait times were there on nights before they fixed the problem. Or possibly they are shills for other restaurants? I don't know. What I *do* know is that for hand-made pasta in a welcoming atmosphere, Mangia e Scappa is the best Italian restaurant we've been to in Fort Langley. Honestly the worst customer service I've ever experienced from the owner (pictured). We asked to have our clearly burnt pizza replaced and she told us that people like it that way, and refused. It honestly tasted like burnt toast. None of the other pizzas at our table were even close to as charred. On the positive side, our server was lovely and all of the other food was quite good. We went there because of the good reviews regarding the pasta. ordered the house red and it was horrible, so we ordered a $75 bottle instead and were told we still had to pay full price for the un drunk bad wine. We ordered the anti pasta and it was not great, then the most expensive entre and a pasta dish we said we would share and were told the kitchen would not split the dishes but we would get extra plates that never arrived. All in $230 for 2 for diner, before tax and tip. We will never go there again. one star because they do not allow no stars. read more

My family and I love coming back to this charming restaurant in Fort Langley. Quality food, generous serving, stellar service. The staff remembers us by face and that's always appreciated! I come back for the squid ink pasta (take note, they only serve this for dinner) - it's just the right amount of creaminess together with the rich seafood flavour from the sauce. Last night my friend and I ordered spaghetti vongole (pasta with clams in white wine sauce). The dishes came and much to our surprise the clams were about the size of a woman's thumbnail and 9-12 of the open shells were empty ! Three of my shells actually had a clam about the size of a chick pea inside. The spice in the sauce was over-powering and my mouth started to burn. I couldn't eat my meal. Our waitress was great and spoke to the chef as well as the owner. When our server returned she said that we had to pay for these meals and said that she was very sorry that we were not happy with the meal but that there was nothing she could do. We asked to speak with the owner. When the owner came out, walking right by our table and mingling with others, I gained her attention so that both of us could share our concerns. When we explained the above to her, she became very defensive stating that she never knew what size the clams will be when the shipment arrives. She was clearly annoyed with our additional complaints (that my mouth was burning and that I couldn't eat my meal) and became huffy and confrontational before walking away. My friend and I were calm and professional in attempting to get our issues resolved but she was rude and dismissive. Frankly I was shocked. I once worked in a four star Italian restaurant, had an Italian partner and was a regular at this restaurant for many years. The atmosphere, Sunday music and service is great and I used to have delicious meals. However this incident, coupled with another calamari disaster a month ago, was most unfortunate. In a good restaurant mistakes happen and can easily be rectified with respectful and professional responses. This was the opposite to what we experienced from the owner and I will not be returning. The restaurant got 1 star because our waitress was really good and 1 because the meal was tasty. Unfortunately we were a group of 7 and 1 couple shared a pizza; it arrived first and they were almost done when the next 4 meals came out. Those meals were almost finished when the final meal came out. The strange thing is the last meal was the same as 1 of the 4 that arrived earlier. Why didn't they cook those 2 meals at the same time? When I spoke to the owner she was shall we say, less than receptive to my comments. we have been here once before and didn't understand why the reviews were so poor. Then we interacted with the owner. We were having a very nice experience with the staff and the food was as good as last time. Then the salad came and was wilted and tasteless. We asked our server to take it back and remove it from the bill and they let us know we would need to speak to the manager. The manager came out to argue with us over an over priced $16 salad and refused to take it off the bill. She told us the salad got rave reviews and we could take it or leave it. She also accused us of making the salad look bad by running our fingers through it. What a disappointment, it all started with the menus. Dirty and torn, obviously a sign of not caring. Appy, calimari, heavily battered and overcooked. Wanted linguini Vongole, but they were out of claims. At 6:30 at night? So order the special, DISASTER,!! was supposed to be, shrimp, scallops, prawns, mussels in White wine tomato broth. We were served a pasta that was stuck together in clumps, tiny little shrimp normally served on pizza. The scallops were phony, punched out skate cheeks, the two prawns were great, but they came mussels that were dried out, very poor quality, old and dried out and tasted like they had been around for a long time. No sign of a manager throughout the evening, obviously he/she does not care. Had dinner there this evening and I am so disappointed. I told the waitress I have allergies to dairy and gluten before we ordered. We ended up receiving my gluten-free pasta with regular noodles added to the gluten free, and our appetizer had gluten in it that was not mentioned by the waitress or-the menu my dinner also had a piece of bread on it so I could not eat it, I was charged for everything and my husbands dinner was burnt on the bottom and cold in the middle I broke out in the restaurant and it got worse as we got home. read more

I used to brag about this restaurant and I ordered takeout and ate there whenever possible during the pandemic in the hopes it wouldn't fall victim like other restaurants did at the time. I went to the restaurant the other evening to celebrate my birthday and it was utterly disappointing. The main focus of the restaurant owners seemingly is to make the most money possible; no matter what the customer experience is like. My sister-in-law had ordered the pasta vongole; she's ordered the dish numerous times, and yet this dish was plain pasta with hot water and clams thrown on top; no flavour whatsoever. We mentioned to our waitress, the distaste and asked to change to a different dish and she walked off looking uncertain. To ensure this was fully communicated I went to speak with the owner Giulia. After explaining that it did not taste good to her, and I mentioned we would like to order an alternate, she said that's fine but that we would have to pay for both dishes; one hardly touched, and the replacement to come later. I explained that seems ludicrous, but being a party I didn't want to make a fuss so I accepted it and walked back to the table. I couldn't help but laugh as she said that she is Italian and this is "how it tastes in Italy." As a frequent visitor to Italy I can confirm that is false. So it seems if you don't like the dish their policy is "too bad for you." My table would not accept me paying for the extra dish as no restaurant has ever had such rules. We called the owner back over to explain that we did not want to pay, and she argued with us and insisted we pay for both dishes. She became hell-bent on us paying for the now; two dishes. After much discussion, again, over my birthday party, she wouldn't budge and ran off saying "oh my god" and went behind the counter cursing under her breath while looking at our table. It's pretty evident the owners of the restaurant or at least her, are simply more focused on cheating their customers for extra money than ensuring a memorable experience and good service. I'm really disappointed more than anything. I loved this restaurant and I was excited to celebrate my party there; but myself and my family intend never to return as the owners behind the restaurant clearly have no heart or sense of service. Strangely I am in Fort Langley all the time and never came across his place. It is tucked away on a side street, so when my daughter said it is her new favourite, I went looking for it. I was not disappointed! I went to lunch with a friend and was mesmerized. The place is so lovely and homey. The owner was there, and visited my table. She told me about how the foods are from family recipes and using imported specialty Italian ingredients. Every dish is unique and made with care. I loved my Caesar salad with a side of three meatballs. They have an extensive menu, and the display case full of desserts looked like I will need another stomach next time I am back. The prices were reasonable and the portions were perfect. I had no service problems, and bought some products from their store on the way out. It is worth sniffing around the corner and finding this hidden gem in Fort Langley. read more

BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST SERVICE EVER! Our waitress did not ask us about our food one time and we ordered multiple appetizers. She never offered us pepper either but the neighbours got pepper, figures. We had to pretty much flag her down and almost grab her every time she walked by because she had no interest in taking care of us. Finally one of the other waitresses picked up our dishes that were piling up high beside us. It's also important for me to add that we have asked her at this point, multiple times to please take our dishes. The funny thing is is that we watched her go back-and-forth many many times with empty hands... not sure why she had such a problem clearing anyone's plates. The manager was all smiles taking pictures with people but really not helping out at all. There were other multiple tables around us that seemed very unhappy as well. The only thing that they have going for them is that the food is decent. I'm not going to go overboard and say it was amazing but it was a solid three star. Carpaccio was boring but the pizza was very very good. The bread was a little bit stale and they barely give you any olive oil. We really want to like this place. They have Live Music on Sunday and a generally nice atmosphere. We are local, not tourists, so we've been able to experience and witness over quite a few occasions. When it's good, it's good. The problem is half the times we've gone, it hasn't been good, specifically the service (although we have had a few bad dishes). When it gets busy, they don't seem to be able to manage. We've ordered pizza that on three separate occasions has taken over an hour to arrive at our table. While we were waiting on one of those occasions two people waiting for their take-out pizza gave up and left after waiting for 45 minutes. We witnessed another two people today pacing around waiting almost an hour for their take-out pizzas. So first rule is don't go in a rush or if you're really hungry and are wanting pizza. This seems to be a constant point of contention when it's busy. (When it's not busy, it's usually 10-15 minutes for pizza). The worst part of these extended wait sessions is that they never offer any compensation, more of a take it or leave it attitude, which doesn't lend itself to us wanting to return. Today after 1:15 waiting for our pizza, the server came by and asked us if we wanted to look at a dessert menu. Well, no, generally we'd like to eat first. When our pizza finally arrived, it had olives despite us requesting no olives. Not wanting to face another potential extended wait for a replacement, we just picked them off. Did they offer a discount for our very delayed pizza arriving wrong? Not a chance. Judging from the other reviews this must be management's attitude of contempt towards customers, which is unfortunate and unnecessary. The restaurant business is impossible to please everybody, but when reasonable customers are being let down to this extent, a little something as an apology that shows management cares. But sadly, they do not (or so it seems by their policies). As far as food, it's been mostly good. We did get the fritti fritti (which we've had many times and it's usually incredible) once and the Nutella cream sauce tasted like vinegar (I assume because it had gone bad). They brought us a new one that was good but no discount or apology for the bad one. I had the lasagna once which arrived lukewarm and not particularly to my taste. We have had mostly good experiences with the menu aside from a couple bad ones. I wrestled with how many stars I should give my review. My initial thought was 3.5 stars(so rounding to 4), but the policies surrounding bad experiences and our feeling of not wanting to return after them seemed like 2 stars better reflected our general consensus after the service (or lack thereof). I truly hope that I can post a better review later, but it seems that without some philosophical changes in management style, this will be the norm. Take it or leave it. read more

Dropped in randomly at this spot with a small group of 6 friends out to casually celebrate a friend's birthday. We didn't have reservations but were told that we could wait and that they would be able to put together a couple of tables to get us in eventually. We were in no rush and waited 25 mins and they were able to seat us. We got our table but didn't see any server for another 15 mins. Once we saw a server we ordered our appetizers and dinner all at once for fear we wouldn't see her again. We then waited 1 hr and 20 mins for anything resembling food to arrive. After finally complaining to our server who said: "you didn't get your food yet?!" two of the entrees arrived. Two more plates arrived 10 mins later and then the remaining two dishes arrived 5 mins after that. We never got the appetizers we ordered. The food was fine, but certainly not outstanding for the price (for a $25 plate of pasta I would at least expect some fresh Parmesan and pepper offering; nowhere to be found). The only accompanying item was a tiny piece of garlic bread that was cold and underwhelming. When we mentioned the missing appetizers (just to make sure they wouldn't show up on bill) she said they would be coming up right away (after we were already done our entrees!) We then asked to speak to the manager. The manager eventually visited the table 15 mins later and blamed the scenario on being under-staffed. At no point did he or anyone apologize or take any accountability; only excuses. We then gave up waiting on our bill and went up to the front to pay. At that time we spoke to another manager about our frustrations and she had the nerve to tell us it was our fault because we didn't have a reservation and reminded me that she had told us that they were busy when we arrived two hours earlier. Again; no apology or ownership taken for the terrible experience. Needless to say, we tipped zero dollars and we will never be going back here again. Horrific experience! There are so many other great Italian restaurants around town that understand what customer service means. Avoid this place like the plague or HPV or whatever disease you don't wanna get; complete train wreck. It felt like we were on a hidden camera show, only there was no punchline reveal and the joke was on us. read more

Had a great experience here with a group of 8 for dinner. We made the reservation for an early dinner at 5:45 so it wasn't crowded. The ambiance is charming and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I took the waitresses recommendation on the Penne Pistachio and it was divine! They make the pesto in house with herbs from their back garden. The pistachio and shrimp added a nice twist to the classic dish. Our food came out all together in a perfectly timely manner. Very disappointed. We were so excited to try this restaurant as we had heard that the food was so good! We made reservations a good two weeks in advance for a party for 4. A little annoyed that they put us in the back close to the washrooms. Our first server was excellent. She took our appy order and drink order but then we had another young girl take our dinner order and yet another girl serving our meal and yes..another girl to give us our bill. We each ordered our dinner and one dinner came out long before the other 3. When ours came out the first dinner out had already been consumed. One of the pasta dishes was barely warm. I asked for a reheat. Several minutes later I got my dish back but it was no warmer than when I returned it. I was done at this point. I thought someone would have offered me something else instead. All I got was "sorry about that" So I sat there without anything to eat. So all in all, really only 2 of our party of 4 got to eat their meals together. I truly was disappointed that no one from upper management ( or the owner who was there that night) didn't come up to us and offer us a genuine apology for the inconsistent timing of the meals and a cold dish of pasta. Not sure if the kitchen was having an off night but the table of 6 behind us seemed to be experiencing the same type of issues we were. This is a cute place tucked away in Fort Langley. We had lunch here one afternoon. We ordered a pesto spaghetti and a pizza to share. Both were good but nothing spectacular. We shopped around after and discovered the pasta and pizza is made with Italian flour, which is lighter and is practically gluten free so you don't feel bloated after. This is true as we didn't feel this way after downing all the carbs. Service is ok...They still had the specials from the night before up on the board. Many tried to order it for lunch and we kept hearing "oh those are from last night". Not sure why they didn't wipe it off right away when we first noticed it. read more

Not impressed. I was aware that parties were encouraged to come to this restaurant. DO NOT EVEN TRY. While organizing this, the first person we talked to on the phone (a man server) was polite and very helpful. The next time, the owner (female) was rude right off the bat, upped our security deposit, acted extremely unprofessional, told us if we brought a cake it would cost $70.00 to CUT IT! No customer service skills. Still giving this place a chance, we went, and WOW how we regret that. While trying to put balloons up for the surprise, we got told that we can't do that, that we have to pay them to do that. Drinks and food were slow to come out, barely saw the server, and the owner was STILL RUDE. Food wasn't great for how much you spent either. We were the one of the 3 tables in the place, and they acted as if we were an inconvenience to them.. but we were their only source of money for a Thursday night. While trying to pay just to get out of there, the server made it our duty to split the bill, thinking that we should figure it out all on our own. Apparently, they don't do that, and leave it to the customers to do it. They need to learn customer service, update their billing software, learn how to speak nicely, decrease their prices in cheaply made food, and not jip people by adding to their bill.
