Then and now, the staff is always friendly, attentive, and professional. One day during quarantine, I stumbled across the John Andrews Salon Instagram page and as I scrolled through, I fell in love with the posts of stylist Michelle Daly's hair transformations. I clicked her profile and within a minute I was direct messaging her to set up an appointment. She is, deservedly so, in high demand so I booked her next open spot (a month later). And let. Me. Tell. You. The wait was worth it!! She took my raggedy grown out balayage and gave me the blonde bombshell highlights I had dreamed of. If you've ever gotten highlights, you know the process takes hours. Michelle was great and kept me informed of every step along the way (how much longer the dye needed, when/why she was adding toner, what products she used during my blowout, etc.) Unfortunately I forget Michelle's assistant's name but she was also amazing. Looking forward to my next appt! COVID safety note: upon arrival, clients waited outside until their name was called. Once inside, temperatures are taken. Around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Lancaster Avenue and just down the street from the Wayne train station, John Andrews salon sits next to a dry cleaner in a small strip center. The signage is a little hard to see, but there is free off-street parking available which - if you have been to Wayne before - is worth a star all by itself. I'll be honest when I say I don't have much for a hair stylist to work with - if you know what I mean - but the ladies at John Andrews were able to squeeze me in on short notice and made me feel like I should be on the cover of a magazine. You are a little bit cooler just by walking into the salon because it has a very sophisticated feel to it, but the cheerful and attentive service only makes the whole experience better. Just like I expect a chef to like to eat or a carpenter to have nice kitchen cabinets, I am always more comfortable when I walk into a hair salon and the stylists look professional and have taken the time to do their own hair and makeup. The stylists at John Andrews were friendly, skilled, and stylish. The end result was that I got a great looking cut for my event this weekend. I only wished I lived closer so John Andrews could be my go-to salon. Give them a shot - you'll be glad you did.

Day 1 Two of my friends recommended microblading to me…read more I got impulsive, I saw a groupon and called the artist Jackie whose phone number was on the groupon page. She said I could go in on the same day at "Salon d'artist" in Wayne PA . She is very personable and I liked her. She gave me an hour of service. I was happy with the result and venmoed her the groupon price $240 (as friends and family so she didn't need to pay fees). I was planning to tip her at the second touch up service. Jackie gave me instructions to apply aquaphor every couple of hours and take lukewarm showers. Jackie also told me that 40% of my microblading color would be gone and there was no need to worry. She would fix everything for me with a follow up touch up service which usually takes 10-20 minutes I followed Jackie's instructions of applying aquaphor every couple of hours and didn't take a shower until day 4. Day 4: When I got up I was upset to see a big piece of scalp peeled off my eyebrow without any color left . I sent a picture to Jackie right away and she said my skin was too dry. I explained the picture was taken right after I got up from bed . She said she would fix it. I said Thank you and told her I would start taking lukewarm showers. After I took my shower, while applying aquaphor, a lot more scalps fell off from my eyebrows. I texted Jackie, she said it's too much scabbing. Day 8 My eyebrows became ugly. Too much color was gone. I would say compared to day one 80% of the color has been gone. I texted Jackie the photos and said I was extremely upset with the result and it shouldn't be like that. I said I didn't want the touchup service and asked for a $200 partial refund . Jackie said she would get back to me later. I said I would wait until the next day. Day 9 I texted Jackie for an answer and she got back to me. She kindly took consideration of my pain during the first service and agreed the second touch up service wouldn't work for me. She said she would need to talk to the salon Manager JoAnn and possibly partially refund me. She asked me to wait 3 or 4 days as JoAnn was on vacation. Day 14 I asked Jackie whether she talked to her manager. Jackie asked me to call JoAnn . I called JoAnn , her only words to me were "We wouldn't do anything for you unless you came in". So we made an appointment. Day 20 I arrived on time for the appointment. Jackie was having clients. JoAnn and I briefly went over the whole thing in the waiting area. She said she would look at my eyebrows at Jackie's room when Jackie became available as the waiting area was too dark. About about 30 minutes' wait, Jackie, JoAnn and I had the discussion. Here is the summary of our arguments: JoAnn and Jackie didn't deny my eyebrow result was bad. JoAnn and Jackie said it's normal to have bad results after the first service and sometimes it might take 2 or 3 times of the touch up service. . JoAnn insisted that I wouldn't let them finish the service so she would not refund me. I insisted that I wasn't warned that the first time service result could be this bad and I was expecting better results and the touch up is mostly to repair small areas. In my case if the touch up is supposed to fix it, it would take much more time than the first time service and it might even take two trips . I do not want to go through the same process again: being questioned about not applying enough aquaphor, and looking at my mirror every day and getting upset. At the end, I made it clear to JoAnn that I didn't ask for a full refund. Since I didn't want the touch up service which probably would take much longer than the first time service, why wouldn't she refund me partially? She said she would get back to me. Day 21 JoAnn hasn't got back to me. I have to mention Jackie is always nice. She never dodged my messages. She kindly offered to clean up my eyebrows (remove residual ink in some areas as it's too ugly). JoAnn seems to be a charming person despite being scary on the phone. It's just this experience is too disappointing for me and it took so much of my time and my energy. ------------ editing to add: Late in the afternoon, JoAnn sent me an email but she twisted many details in the email. I cleared up her misstatements in my reply. ----------- editing to add: Even the transaction happened initially between me and Jackie, when Jackied asked me to deal with JoAnn, out of respect for Jackie I didn't pressure Jackie. JoAnn challenged me to go to BBB or a local court. I did go to BBB. Then Jackie started to harrass my company saying I am malicious? I finally realized Jackie wasn't innocent as I thought she was. She is complicit.

Ian is one of the most fantastic hair stylists I've ever gone to. I've been dying my hair for over a decade and have spent countless hours in the salon chair with a lengthy list of different stylists. Ian exceeded my expectations and I will literally follow him off the edge of a cliff if he says so. Not only is he amazing at what he does but he also is one of the sweetest, most genuine people ever. Ian takes the time to discuss what it is about your hair you like/dislike and offers solutions/ ideas to work with. I'm convinced Ian can execute any color, style, etc. Ian cares deeply about his clients and goes out of his way to make you feel special and heard. I used to dread getting my hair done but to say this was a pleasant experience would be the biggest understatement in history. When your hair appointments take hours you see the difference between someone who loves what they do and someone who is just doing it for an income. I immediately recognized that Ian is part of the former category and his work speaks for itself. I trust Ian with my life and will spend the rest of it singing his praises for giving me the color I've always wanted but never thought possible! I'll leave you with this- when a straight man notices your hair is different you know it looks good. read more

I am so happy I found Mane Techniques! I saw Risa for my hair the first time I went and she did the most perfect job. She talked me through everything more clearly than any other hair stylist I've ever seen (I've seen many hair stylists over the years). Risa made me feel super comfortable and like I was actually in control of what I was doing to my hair (how it should feel every time!) she agreed that many things could come out looking great but ultimately it was my decision of what I thought would look best on me. We spent time going over options and she was so sweet about looking through my Pinterest board of hair colors and answering all of my annoying questions lol. My hair took a few hours but I felt like I was in and out! The color came out perfect and it looked so healthy from my trim. Risa also suggested a Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioner to me for my specific hair type and it is hands down my favorite shampoo/conditioner ever! Safe to say I love Mane Techniques, I definitely recommend this salon to anyone looking for a new place. I've heard amazing things about all of the stylists here and would bet you'd love your hair no matter who you see! read more

Prior to coming to Mane Techniques, I didn't have a set salon that I always relied on. I came in originally just for a consultation for hand tied extensions. Prior to this I had tape-ins and I was thinking it was time for a change. After Cara and Mary explained the whole process I decided to go for it. They were able to order my extensions that day and get me in as soon as possible. Cara and Mary -- and the whole team all worked together to make my hair perfect! They are all so sweet and made the experience absolutely amazing. They are very thorough and made sure I was 100% satisfied. I loved my experience here and will only be coming here for now on! As for my review on the hand-tied extensions, I couldn't recommend them more! They add so much volume to my hair and they're so comfortable! So easy to style and wash my hair with. I got 24 inches in the darkest black color and the girls made sure that my hair color matched them perfectly. They blend sooo well and i'm obsessed! read more

Run- don't walk here! My experience was beyond amazing. My consultation with Mary was very informative. She explained the entire process with such detail that I knew exactly what to expect. Her knowledge and honesty about the products and services that I was inquiring about we're spot on. My appointment for my extensions installation was with Cara (and Ian helped.) They both were just as great and explained the entire process as they went so I knew what to expect. Once Cara was done, I felt like a literal queen. Mane techniques is the place TO GO!! The ENTIRE team is amazing and I can NOT stress that enough. Before coming to the salon my hair was in horrible condition. I was extremely self conscious about my fried off hair. Many hair dressers (at different salons) turned me down as the quality of life in my hair was extremely poor. Taylor instantly began pitching many ideas leaving me to feel a lot better. Eventually I decided to go with the hand tied extension route and can I just say, I've never looked and felt better. Cara color matched me and even had the entire team working on me the exact same day. I've never felt happier about my hair and it's all thanks for the mane techniques team. I have had two visits to Mane Techniques in Wayne. I have thin hair and I decided to add extensions. I couldn't be more pleased with the work Angelique did this week. Everyone in the salon is welcoming and the customer service with Christina is great.. Angelique not only listened to my concerns, when the service was finished, she asked if she could put a few waves into my hair. I was reluctant but agreed. Those waves lasted me for more than two days and I had so many compliments. I'm the kind of person who washes her hair every day but now I know I don't have to do that. I visited this salon with high expectations after reading all of the rave reviews and seeing this…read morebusiness specializes in beautiful color work. Given that the prices here are premium, I expected to tap into their marketed expertise to treat my hair woes. I am super bummed to report this salon fell short of those expectations for my visits. I don't feel that I left with amazing hair and reaching the goals discussed with the stylist, or that I even had above average service. I came in to have my roots and ends match a seemingly complex service for me, and eventually after ongoing visits to have my overall hair color lightened. The person who I saw I feel overpromised and underdelivered. Between both of my visits there were many issues which I experienced that amounted to a negative vibe. I felt that the stylist was rushing a lot during a visit which caused her to splatter my face and clothes with lightening product unapologetically. The stylist got dark hair dye which stained very visibly all over my face and was ready to let me leave this way. I had to insist to clean off my own face with wipes. The next visit I needed to remind about this and no notes were taken to proactively avoid. Despite the discussion and understanding with the stylist about what I want for my hair, I noticed there was a difference between my roots and rest of my hair after a lightening service and simultaneous root touch up. I did expect for there to be better matching - this was noticed and confirmed by a different salon which I had a consult with to treat my hair. During one visit when I asked for a hair trim, it was not very detail oriented. Later while looking at my hair, I did see many parts of my ends which weren't trimmed and still had damage. The observation about lack of detail orientation was confirmed at a the different visit. There was another stylist next to me who was obsessing over a client's cut and measuring and cutting from every which angle to ensure perfection - I did not not have anywhere close to this level of attention, QA, outcome for a less complex trim! Then I noticed they were obsessing just to post on social in their in house backdrop/lighting mini studio, which made me wonder if that level of excellence is selective. During my second visit my blow dry was not smooth at all as it was rushed due to end of the night. The service also seemed a bit unapproachable as despite me conveying I need to get in in 4 weeks she was proposing 6 weeks or at times in the middle of the work day. Who in any job can reasonably travel and step away for 2-3 hours in the middle of the work day? Not until I repeated (again), was a more creative solution proposed which would meet my conveyed needs. Egh this lack of empathy in the customer service was yet another turn off. Due to these issues I chose to not proceed with visiting this salon another time, or making it a part of my ongoing hair maintenance routine. There are many beautiful photos on IG from the stylist I saw, and I'm so bummed about my own experience having spent on a premium experience and not being able to leave with awesome hair! I really did feel this salon experience failed to wow me during either of the visits despite giving them more than one try. Given the difference of results, I wonder if this salon is selective about who/when they offer execllent service versus mediocre as I experienced which is too much a gamble when you're paying such premium prices. Unfortunately given how long this business books out, I do not feel it is a practical salon to visit if you have a fast paced lifestyle and are in need of regular hair services. These were all rookie mistakes for a business charging so high - think twice!

I first called the studio about color correction after I used L'Oréal Colorista to put blue throughout my hair on top of my balayage. The blue would not leave; it had left a strong green color throughout most of the lightened parts of my hair. Fiber first booked me with a consultation, so Nichole could see my hair and book me for an accurate time window. She was super nice and attentive, but for booking, she didn't have any availability for over a month. When she saw how long it was though, she opened up a Saturday about a week and a half away that she had previously been off for because it was the day after her birthday. This was incredibly nice both on her part, and because I was desperate to get rid of the green hair. For the actual appointment, Nichole patiently worked through first stripping the color and then giving me a more dramatic balayage than I previously had. She really looked at the pictures I showed her and talked to me about what I wanted. I was in the salon for about four hours, and Nichole and the staff were nice and accommodating the entire time - including running out to my car multiple times to add change for parking. I love the finished look. I've gotten balayage done multiple times from several different salons, both in this area and in Manhattan, and her work is definitely among my favorite. We forgot to take a before photo, but I've included our after photo. It's been awhile now and I'm very happy with how it's growing out and fading. There was still a green tinge that showed in fluorescent lighting after Nichole was done (not her fault at all, she was honest about realistic expectations, and the dye was way more intense than I thought). However, that's gone now with her recommended use of purple shampoo, and I'm so happy with the final result. I highly recommend Nichole for color correction or for balayage!! Be sure to call in advance, they're very busy.

I just moved here from CA and was so concerned I wouldn't find anyone to cut my short hair. Then I came upon this marvelous salon where I met a fabulous staff, was shampooed and pampered by Shaina and then received a fantastic precision haircut from Michelle. I feel like I've found a new home!

Beware of Michelle. She RUINED my hair by putting me under heat for an hour with bleach (which I…read morelater found out to be a stylist BIG No-No), overcharged, and was just so incredibly rude, almost like a bully in the way she talked to me. The first time I went to her, she called it a corrective process because she was fixing my hair, so about $280 + tip later, I was so much more blonde than the picture I had shown her and my bright blonde highlights didn't even start at the top of my head and were brassy. I went back for her to tone them down about 3 days later, booking it as a corrective color, and she said I had to pay $30 for the glaze and softening, because she could have done that the first time around if I had more time to stay past the 3 HOURS I was already there! I told her that I needed to go home and let my eyes adjust to the color before figuring out if I needed anything. I should 100% never have been charged that $30, but paid it to keep the peace. So for over a month and a half, I had hair that was still too blonde. When I booked my second appointment, I booked a root color and asked if Michelle could add a few lowlights to offset all the blonde, and she did, basically turning my hair now brown with only a hint of blonde showing. When I got home, all I could see was that my hair was brown and thought that I have now paid too much money to NOT get what I want for the second time! So I called back and asked if someone there, that didn't even have to be Michelle, could make my blond stand out more, and the girl at the front desk said Michelle would call me back. When she did, right away she was making excuses about how my hair is a work in progress and how now this is the second time I'm calling to correct her work, and I said to her that I just want brown hair with blonde highlights and that I'm paying too much money each time to not get what I want and not loving my hair! Then Michelle said ok, then why don't we do this - since you seem to have to come back every time, then I'll just reimburse you for your hair and you can find someone else to go to! When I said that sounds great, she said, "Ok I'll talk to my boss and we'll refund you!" And hung up on me! Fast forward to 6 months later and MY ENTIRE head of hair has broken off and is the most damaged it has ever been. I have never been put under heat for my blonde highlights, but Michelle did, and I was under heat for close to an hour. What I found out later by other stylists, was that should have NEVER happened. NEVER EVER should you put tons of bleach on someone's hair and then keep them under heat for any period of time, let alone an HOUR because she said the "blonde wasn't lifting!" She completely destroyed my hair. I always had fine hair, so there wasn't a need to ever put me under heat with bleach, and now it's so thin and broken, to where I'm actually embarrassed. I'm appalled at Michelle's lack of knowledge or professional care about my hair, and what she did to it, as a supposed "veteran" hair stylist.

I decided I wanted to get an ombre style color job a few weeks ago and don't trust myself DIY-ing it so I went to M's on the Square. The woman who greeted me (and did my hair) was very very nice the entire time, but I will say that the whole appointment felt rushed...she did the whole coloring in less than an hour and a half (I was told it should take 3 hours). The end result--my hair turned out TERRIBLY. It is not ombre AT. ALL. Not only is it not ombre, but it looks like a really bad highlighting job. My hair is dark brown naturally, and I'm left with random, very blonde highlights that are chunky and that are only on SOME tips of my hair. The top is all my natural brown (as it should be) and the bottom is PLATINUM BLONDE with absolutely no in-between, no transitioning color, no gradual change.I even noticed that some locks of hair go from dark brown to blonde BACK TO dark brown at the end...just one middle chunk of hair on the strands were highlighted! I've been wearing my hair in a ponytail ever since!!! I'm looking at other places to get it redone now and it's going to cost me over $120. Very very disappointed, to say the least. Maybe I should have just kept it simple!
