Beware of Michelle. She RUINED my hair by putting me under heat for an hour with bleach (which I later found out to be a stylist BIG No-No), overcharged, and was just so incredibly rude, almost like a bully in the way she talked to me. The first time I went to her, she called it a corrective process because she was fixing my hair, so about $280 + tip later, I was so much more blonde than the picture I had shown her and my bright blonde highlights didn't even start at the top of my head and were brassy. I went back for her to tone them down about 3 days later, booking it as a corrective color, and she said I had to pay $30 for the glaze and softening, because she could have done that the first time around if I had more time to stay past the 3 HOURS I was already there! I told her that I needed to go home and let my eyes adjust to the color before figuring out if I needed anything. I should 100% never have been charged that $30, but paid it to keep the peace. So for over a month and a half, I had hair that was still too blonde. When I booked my second appointment, I booked a root color and asked if Michelle could add a few lowlights to offset all the blonde, and she did, basically turning my hair now brown with only a hint of blonde showing. When I got home, all I could see was that my hair was brown and thought that I have now paid too much money to NOT get what I want for the second time! So I called back and asked if someone there, that didn't even have to be Michelle, could make my blond stand out more, and the girl at the front desk said Michelle would call me back. When she did, right away she was making excuses about how my hair is a work in progress and how now this is the second time I'm calling to correct her work, and I said to her that I just want brown hair with blonde highlights and that I'm paying too much money each time to not get what I want and not loving my hair! Then Michelle said ok, then why don't we do this - since you seem to have to come back every time, then I'll just reimburse you for your hair and you can find someone else to go to! When I said that sounds great, she said, "Ok I'll talk to my boss and we'll refund you!" And hung up on me! Fast forward to 6 months later and MY ENTIRE head of hair has broken off and is the most damaged it has ever been. I have never been put under heat for my blonde highlights, but Michelle did, and I was under heat for close to an hour. What I found out later by other stylists, was that should have NEVER happened. NEVER EVER should you put tons of bleach on someone's hair and then keep them under heat for any period of time, let alone an HOUR because she said the "blonde wasn't lifting!" She completely destroyed my hair. I always had fine hair, so there wasn't a need to ever put me under heat with bleach, and now it's so thin and broken, to where I'm actually embarrassed. I'm appalled at Michelle's lack of knowledge or professional care about my hair, and what she did to it, as a supposed "veteran" hair stylist. read more

I would severely think twice about making appointment at this place. I had strict instructions only to dye virgin hair/new growth, the stylus Jessica re-dyed highlight style my hair, 6 to 7 inches of it and within seven days it started to break off at the roots Because it was severely damaged, I had to go to the dermatologist and get medicine to prevent the rest of my hair from falling out. Attached is three weeks after colored highlights. I tried to call and speak to the owner but never heard back. So damaged that it won't even hold a style. The only way to go out in public is where a wig, a full wig. You can't re-dye over and over again. If you have to tell the stylist this she obviously doesn't know anything about hair. Even the doctor said that reprocessing old hair over and over again, will just make it fall out I was not even offered a refund of the service. The second picture is a month later. I had gorgeous hair before. This is an update for the comment. I went to the dermatologist three times and she told me repeatedly that the person who was my hairstylist was burning it off my head. A Doctor Who is board certified with a medical degree with specialty training, definitely understands hair and the follicle of the head.. dermatologist was shocked and quickly said it was a time bomb waiting to happen because my hair was over processed. Also I never use a hair dryer which means the only person who is damaging my head is the hairstylist who is coloring my hair not to my instructions. I asked for my hair to be highlighted with color to only the virgin hair. When it was placed it was 6 inches down the hair, I didn't know eight weeks I would grow 6 inches worth of hair. I never could understand why it couldn't hold a style after leaving the salon but this day I understand why it was being severely damaged every time I walk through that door. I just had to look at past photos of the last few years to see how severely damaged my hairstylist was only one that was treating it. The placement of the color was a crown framing style, all that here is 1/3 to 1/4 from the other hair in the back. They never even offered my money back, they only gave me one appointment to come in and maybe even damage the hair more. Once it's damage there is no treatment when it's already fallen out. I come to Salon L to see Lauren S. for cut and color, and I can't say enough good things about them both. Lauren is seriously a godsend - she gives me the blonde supermodel hair of my dreams!!! Lauren has been my stylist for about two years now, and I absolutely love her. I was in a serious hairdresser rut before I found her - suffering with streaky, fake-looking blonde highlights (which was exactly what I DIDN'T want) and feeling so discouraged. I have a pretty tall order when it comes to my hair color, and couldn't find a stylist who knew how to achieve the look I wanted. My natural hair color is an ashy light brown these days, but I was blonde until about age 18, and strive for that "my hair gets blonde in the sun" look. I also like my hair to be a little "lived in" when I leave the salon, with some darkness at the root, so the roots will blend in as my hair grows out. Blonde highlights from root to tip on a brown base just ain't it, ya kno? Honestly I don't know exactly what process Lauren uses to color my hair; it's some combination of balayage / partial highlight / shadow root / base bump. We always talk about end goal and I always show inspiration pictures at the beginning of the appointment. The finished result with Lauren is always warm and bright, beautifully blended, and lasts me 3-4 months (!!!) Lauren is so sweet and genuine, I enjoy our conversations almost as much as the final result. Nina and the salon literally nailed my hair so well, that I come in from Las Vegas to get my color and trim! My first time was a color correction from years of what I didn't realize was bad color under the layers of my thick hair. On my second visit, I trusted Nina so much I let her create my cool blonde color and she didn't disappoint. The staff is amazing and professional. I went for a conditioning treatment and blow out. Very Poor service. The place looks outwardly cleanly but not sanitary. The hairbrushes have not been sanitized for I don't know how long. When I pointed that out to the stylist that I would like a clean brush, he said in a very rude way "this is not my station, but I will clean it for you"??? And he did throwing around all the brushes like a kid who was asked to do a chore and acted that way the whole time he did my hair. Not a great style either. Overall a bad experience. read more

Getting your hair done can't get much better than this! First of all, we drove over 1.5 hours to check out the new sister salon to the famous/popular Salon L'Etoile. I have been going there for years and am in love with the talent and service offered by the owner, Michael. Salon L was much anticipated and did not disappoint! It is beautiful and cozy, a nice blend of modern design and homey atmosphere. You are well taken care of from the moment you arrive (coffee, water, candy!). Plus, the services cannot be outdone. I came in a hot mess (gross overgrown hair with grays popping out all over) and left looking like a movie star. Michael even cut our daughter's hair (first haircut ever!). He thoughtfully gave us a lock to take home and the front desk also snapped a pic and printed it for us. Now, that is service! How sweet! Plus, Salon L sits in English Village which is an awesome little shopping plaza with great shops, restaurants, and Trader Joes. You can't go wrong. HIGHLY recommend. This place has a great atmosphere and the people working the desk are very welcoming. Casey is a great stylist who listened to my requests. The experience was five stars until I went to pay. I was told that a blowout would be $35. I was charged $45 simply because I asked the stylist to add some curls to the bottom. I know it would have been a little cheesy for her to tell me the price while she was styling me but it would have been good to know. I've had the exact same style elsewhere without getting charged extra. I left feeling nickled and dimed. There are a lot of good options out there so I just can't recommend this salon. read more

So far I'm very pleased with Salon L. I've struggled to find a hair stylist since moving to the area - I have naturally curly hair - but it was clear from the moment I met Casey that she knew what she was doing. My hair looks great both blown out and curly. Now we'll see how it grows out, but I expect to be back! read more

I had a very positive experience at this salon! Everyone was friendly and the salon was well decorated and maintained. Rosie did a great job on my long, thick hair and blew my hair out very well. I highly recommend her. My only negative comment would be that it was a little slow, and that the stylists seemed to be juggling a few clients at once. read more

I had an awesome experience at Salon L today. I am frequently at the English Village shops and restaurants, and I was excited to see the new salon join this great location. I was quickly greeted and had no wait at all for my stylist, Jessica. She was so sweet and had lots of great advice for my color and some heat damage I have. I had the best color, cut & blow dry- my hair looked gorgeous and healthy, and she suggested some products that would help me achieve the same healthy look at home (and no pressure to buy, but I did)... I will definitely be making this my new go-to salon for all my hair. It is a beautiful space and the staff is so friendly. Great experience! read more

Disappointing. Would not recommend. My first time to the salon. I had a coupon to receive a free hair cut when paying for color. I need a new salon, so this is my chance to check it out. I booked my appointment on-line (which I love that capability). They confirmed in a matter of hours. Off to a good start! I arrive. No one is at the desk, and the only person in vision is on their cell phone. So I stood. Nothing. So I went and sat. Ugh, poor customer service, annoying. Hair consultation went well. The stylist seemed to understand exactly what I wanted. I was even able to look passed the fact that they never cleaned the dye residue all over my forehead until my experience went all downhill. During the hair cut they drop their comb on the floor and pick it right back up and used it again? But too late to say anything as they proceeded to make a joke "Oops, my first drop of the day". I asked for 4 inches off, longer in the front, shorter with messy layers in the back. I ended up with a Dutch boy haircut, all the same length with no layers. Took about 2 minutes and 4 strokes of the scissors. I have frizzy, curly hair....yet the stylist proceeded to dry my hair without any hair product before or after. At this point it dawns on me that I notified them up front about my coupon (oops). So I'm guessing this is what a "free" cut with paid color gets you. Shorter hair (no style) and no hair products. They keep those for the full paying customers. I tried to live with my cut for a day, but hated the way it curled. Overall just a horrible cut. So the next day I went to the Hair Cuttery (yup, you heard me) the Hair Cuttery for a fix. I verbalized the same exact cut and they brought over the hair book to show me what they thought I was requesting. They were spot on, and my hair looks as I wanted. Overall I would not return to this salon and after my mediocre experience, I would not recommend this salon to anyone else. Especially if this is how they are treating first time customers?? Coupons are used to bring the person in the door, it's their job to try and keep them. Sad to say, not in this case. Telling my friends to go with Plan B. read more

I am extremely disappointed with Salon L and their scheduling. I made an appointment a week and a half ago for my friend and myself for a blow out. I received a call today the day before my appointment despite getting the confirmation text that my appointment was cancelled. I made this appointment far in advance and it's ridiculous that this happened and that they could not accommodate us.
