My daughter and I had the absolute worst experience at Jay Michael Salon and Spa Radnor. We made her hair appointment over 2 months ago. We received a call 2 weeks ago saying her stylist went on early maternity leave and they rescheduled us with someone else. That was totally fine, though we love her stylist. I received a call at 5:30 pm yesterday asking if we could move our appt from 9am today to 12pm today. Sure no problem. At 11:40am I received a call say our appointment needed to be canceled because the stylist was not excepting new clients. WHAT????? We were already there waiting in the car for our appt. They did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue, wouldn't get us in with anyone else, and quite frankly acted like assholes. I will absolutely never go there again. read more

The women in this salon are awful! They talk about their customers to each other and to other customers. I am also a customer at a neighboring business and witnessed a nasty interaction from a JM employee towards their staff member. She didn't see me and clearly thought she would never be exposed but I recognized her from JM salon. She gave off "mean girl" high school behavior. I guess they're not smart enough to realize that they could have the same customers in common. I never really loved my personal experience at JM but after seeing how they treat people, I am done. I was called and was asked to move to 1:45. I said please promise I'll start at 1:45 since last time I was here I started almost 30 min late for a hair wash and the girls forgot I was there when I was only person standing in the lobby. I take off work to come so it's hard to be away for hours when you guys don't run on time. I was told that notes would be made and put into the system and that no one was in front of me in line so I'd be seen on time. Better yet there was a 15 minute buffer before me and the person before me so I'd be fine . Well I stood there yesterday for 20 minutes and was only one in lobby again. I said I was supposed to be seen at 1:45 as per the notes. They then went to check and start my wash. I wasn't washed until almost 30 minutes after 1:45. I didn't get a robe so my coat, sweater and shirt were soaked when I left. While getting my hairdryed the top of my face got burnt and hurt the rest of the day. I said I had to leave at 3 which gave an hour and 15 minutes for the cut. I didnt start my haircut until 3 so I left the facility at 3:30. Not great. read more

This review is specifically for Karine, who has an exceptional ability to listen and then create a vision of one's better self! While I was quite reluctant to keep my appointment given this salon's poor customer service (e.g., being put on hold, being curt on the phone and generally not being welcoming), I was ultimately reassured that this first time bride from NYC would be in good hands with Karine (for my wedding day hair and makeup services). I learned quickly that this was an understatement as Karine was WONDERFUL!! My first visit was the week before my wedding, for a make-up trial. While I was initially nervous, Karine put me at ease immediately with her kind and gentle touch, first listening to my vision and then suggesting some ideas, after looking at my dress. On my wedding day, which was just my 2nd appointment at this salon, I arrived even more nervous but was immediately put at ease by Karine. My make-up was simple and natural and my hair was beautifully styled (in a 1/2 up, 1/2 down style, which was changed from my original request for an updo) . While I've not yet received the photos from our wonderful photographer, the cell phone pictures are evidence of Karine's tremendous talent. My closest friends, who knew how nervous I was about having a stranger do my wedding hair and makeup, absolutely raved about how I looked. I am truly grateful to Karine for helping to make my wedding day truly magical! read more

I will never be going back to this salon. This weekend I went with a group of 5 women for blow outs and styling, and we all left disappointed! For starters, all of the girls were brought back before me so I was twiddling my fingers for 30 mins. While waiting, the receptionist was so unorganized and flustered making it unbearable to sit there. The second deal breaker was my hairstylist started my blow out and left to blow dry another customers hair half way through my appointment.. By this time the entire group was finished and waiting on me, creating even more anxiety because we were needing to get ready for the wedding we were attending less than an hour away. To top it all off, each of us were disgusted in how overly priced the salon is. For a few curls and two braids pinned back, I was charged $125... I literally could have done it myself and would have liked it better. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Poor customer service! I had booked a 12:45 appt for a manicure. I arrived at 12:40 and was told that Sang was just finishing up with a client. At 1pm, I asked if there was an issue as I had been waiting 15-20 mins. Receptionist went in the back and came out and said it would be 10 mins longer. I left and let them know I would not be rescheduling or returning. This is unacceptable customer service. They should let people know upon check-in if there will be significant delays. If it was due to the earlier customer being late, I hope he/she gave a really nice tip as they will need to make up for me and other potential customers that this business will lose in the future. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Jay Michael Salon. Elle & Emilia make a terrific team. Both are professionals as well as being very warm and welcoming. I had a single color process with some highlights and a bang cut. I find it very difficult to find a stylist who can cut bangs correctly. There is a fine line between a current look and a 1980's mall hair look. Elle, nailed the current look. I love my hair! Also, I observed the other stylists too and they all were well dressed and looked happy, which gives a very good vibe while you are there, tells me the owner knows what he is doing and takes good care of his team. Ashley was awesome. She did a fabulous job on a blow out of my hair, was super efficient and heard me saying that I wished I had time to get my nails done before my event. Without my even asking, she asked another member of the staff to investigate if the woman who does nails could come over and do them while I was getting my hair done. WOW, what service. I was in the midst of running Saturday errands when I realized, btw you need to do your hair. I was short on time, so I stopped by the salon to see if I could get a last minute wash & blowout. Next thing I know I'm sitting in Jay Michael's chair, sipping rose, and having my hair trimmed. It was the best cut I've ever had. The salon is absolutely beautiful, the staff are so kind and welcoming, and the stylists know what they're doing..I swear I've never seen so many clients with huge smiles walking out of a salon. It was far from it and after I saw it, he offered to do a glaze to try to correct it but I think was not the solution that was needed. I will most likely go back because location is terrific. I needed to find a salon near Wayne very quickly for color after my last salon proved difficult when I called to cancel on the day of my appointment due to illness ( I wanted to rebook for the next day when they had time- albeit with another top stylist there) and yes, I know there are cancellation policies but it had not been enforced before and I had been a regular, paying a lot for services for quite a while. I got charged for the cancellation and decided to find a new salon. I called Jay Michael, where I had gone about 20 years ago, and was able to book for a Sunday, my preferred date, with Lynn, one of their newer stylists. She actually recognized me from another salon where she had been an assistant. She spent close to 3 1/2 hours with me , including discussing the color and cut with me, and how to correct some prior issues. She did a very good cut also. She was very kind and considerate, and happy to provide coffee refills. ( Last salon tended to ration out how many cups you could get). I have been to many of the name salons in the area, and some are very good but I prefer Sundays, which works better for me. Also, I did not sense any pretension in this salon, or attitude. Everyone was very nice. Parking is easy also. I highly recommend. read more

I love this salon. I am a relatively new customer - having gone three times over the past few months. First - it is spacious, gets a lot of sun, and is not super loud like many salons. My stylist Karina is wonderful. She has been able to carry out exactly what I am looking for - whether it is the cut or the color. And more importantly, she is so sweet and kind. I don't know the owner, but he stopped by recently while I was in my chair, to say hi and introduce himself - just another example of the warm and friendly environment. read more

Years ago, I had a very cute pixie cut, and for the past few months, I had been thinking about going back to that hairstyle. Having not lived in the Philadelphia area for very long, however, I was wary of just going to any random salon and having all my hair chopped off. Then I was recommended to Jay Michael Salon, specifically to Maria, who is AWESOME! She did an absolutely wonderful job with my hair, and was super kind and patient, even when I was late to my appointment (I went to their old location by accident so double-check in case your smart phone is also not very smart, like mine). I thought it would be really expensive, but the price was totally reasonable. And I got to meet Jay Michael, who is also awesome! Thank you, Maria!! I had Nikki for my hair stylist and she was amazing! I showed her a picture of what I wanted, and she did just that. She took my mousy brown hair and transformed it to bombshell blonde. I visited the salon to meet with Liz Stelmach to purchase wigs. The salon staff was attentive and interested in my safety and comfort. My temperature was taken when I entered. I was given a safe place to wait to meet Liz Stelmach who couldn't be nicer or more informative on hair and wigs. I picked out two wigs that matched my hair color. Liz made the time spent at Jay Michael Salon fun and I felt comfortable in the private room Liz uses. A lovely experience overall! read more

This salon is great for hair. Jay has been cutting my hair for over a year and always does a perfect cut. I highly recommend him. His cut is worth the high price! Unfortunately there are administrative problems in running the shop. Appointments are sometimes forgotten or not listed. Manicures are a problem. Don't recommend this salon for nails. Yesterday the manicurist drew blood! For hair I would rate it 5 stars but the administrative and manicure issues bring the rating to 4. read more

I've been here multiple times and each time I've left feeling remorseful, wondering how many happy hour drinks I could have bought with all the money I just spent on a sub-par haircut. The staff is also pretty snobby, and even if you show up on time you'll be waiting in the lobby for a while. Save your $ and go to Supercuts!!! That way even if the haircut isn't what you dreamed it would be, you will still have enough money leftover to go get a margarita afterwards to help you forget about it. read more

When you enter Jay Michael Salon you are met by the front desk staff, who are not only helpful but extremely friendly. I am a woman "of a certain age" who decided to change my hair color from silver gray to blonde. Michael F. did the transformation and it was nothing short of amazing! Not only is Michael F. an extremely talented colorist but he is a great conversationalist as well. I was a bit nervous about changing my hair color. Michael F. informed me, every step of the way, as to what he was doing as he went through the color process, which greatly alleviated my apprehension. My blonde hair and highlights look so natural. Several other hair stylists in the salon came by to compliment my new blonde hair, including Jay Michael, the owner. The overall vibe in the salon is one of friendliness as well as competence. I love the guy that has been doing my hair for a very long time and i have followed him to quite a few different salon. This salon could be beautiful...but it is not. It is in such need of updating and cleaning! The worst thing is the room they put you in to get the brazilian blowout. The nail salon is a joke......after all we are on the main line! I was so excited to try this salon but unfortunately the receptionist was extremely unhelpful and not friendly. This position must field questions all day and oftentimes, in a fast paced environment, is stressful. However, this person is usually the first experience a customer has with your business. If the wrong person, like this one, is placed in that role, you will lose customers. She also felt that it was appropriate to scream "toilet paper" to someone in the background while on the phone with me. This happened on Monday, April 11th at approximately 5pm. If management is reading this review, my suggestion is to speak to this individual about basic communication skills as I will not be trying your salon and will tell many people about this negative first impression. read more

I have been going to the stylist and colorist for many years. They are both wonderful! Unfortunately, the salon is run extremely poorly. The prices are outrageous, and go up from what they quote you when you book the appointment. the management will not entertain any constructive criticism. This is no way to run a business! There are so many lovely salons on the Main Line, that I'm sure that I can find one where both the stylists and owners are kind and reasonable people. Won't be back!!! read more

Got a great cut a very reasonable price 40 which was less than i expected. My stylist was Steven and he was very personable and professional. I have naturally curly hair and the cut looked great. Never wanted my hair to look like every other Docker's wearing suburbanite and JJ always made sure my hair looked awesome. The man took 10 years off my life without making me look like some aged version of Justin Bieber. So, if you're a man, looking for someone who can actually cut your hair really well, go see JJ. The dude is Michaelangelo with scissors. Yes, guys, he actually will cut your hair short with something other than an electric trimmer.
