What a wonderful experience! I had gotten an oil change at another shop who ran a diagnostic on…read moreeverything needing care on our RAV4 & was told the front brakes were in bad shape. This was about 2 weeks ago. The car was driven only briefly twice and then two days ago the most terrifying sound came from the front driver side wheel that reminded me of when I spent $800 on a U-joint replacement! I had been planning on getting the brakes done this week but now I was worried that there was a bigger problem and began calling around for quotes on the brakes, after the original place I went to for oil change told me $625/side I Googled "best affordable brake shop in SD" and Todd's shop Budget, popped up. After reading his great reviews I called him up and we chatted for a moment after which he quoted me at most $400/side and said they'd be happy to take a look at my mystery sound. I hopped in the car and drove right over, was seen right away, enjoyed my visit with owner Todd (he has great stories!) and watched customers get excellent service at fantastic prices while I waited. I had my pup with me and she was treated like a special customer as well, they had a water bowl for her & she had a great time too. The first thing they looked at was the mystery sound, now let me say, there are absolutely mechanic shops that will take an opportunity like this to make some money but not these guys! What I thought would be something really expensive turned out to be a rock! Stuck in the struts! They showed me the video & after completing the brakes with full fluid replacement I walked out of there at $325 total! Well under what I was quoted for brakes and not even close to what I feared! Todd handed me the little stone and now not only do I have a pocket rock with a good story, I have an honest mechanic shop for life. Thank you so much to the team (including a really sweet long time customer who helps out around the shop who kept me company & offered the water to my pup!) for everything, I will absolutely be back! And I carry my pen in my purse so I can tell people about you too! (as I drove away, I noticed the mystery sound was gone, Todd had told me to call if there was still a problem & to bring it right back if so, I happily called to report it was indeed the rock lol)

($40 and it took maybe 15-20 minutes) I came back wanting to get my stock resonator put back on. They quoted me $100. I told them that the last time I was here I got it removed for $40 and was surprised at the price jump. They said they could do it for $80, I wasn't super bothered and agreed on the price. I made sure to ask to see if lifting my car would be an issue since its pretty low. They said it'd be no problem. (there were two of them working on my car) I watched them move the arms to put them under each of the cars jack points and saw some contact issues on the rear drivers side jack point. (come contact with my side skirt) They tried lifting the car a little bit by the fender just to get the arm underneath the car. They were able to, but there was still a little of contact with the arm of the lift and the sideskirt. They attempted to lift the car and they heard a noise from the sideskirt and then put the car back down. There was some audible conversation before they got a jack to lift up the rear and put the lift arms underneath in a way that wouldn't touch the side skirt. (I have video footage on my dash cam of their conversation) I watched the whole thing happen. As usual, they made quick work to remove the exhaust piping and weld back the stock resonator. And when they brought the car back down I pointed out that they had damaged my car and one of the people that were working on my car looked at it and said it was nothing. There was a different person waiting inside for me to go pay, and when he noticed that I was still outside looking at the car he came out. I told him that they damaged my car and he also looked at it and brushed it off. I really just wanted someone to take accountibility for what had happened. But instead, I'm getting yelled at saying I'm going to pay for the work right now, to which I responded, "I never said I wasn't going to pay for it, but what are you going to do about the damage to my car?" He continued to say how they do this work everyday and they did not damage my car. I stated that I saw the whole thing happen and that I also have video recording on my car. He then said we also have video survailance here too. I then said that the the video survailance will show that they damaged my car. I don't understand how he can say they didn't damage my car when he wasn't there when they were working on my car. He spoke to me very rudely and unprofessionally while the whole time I spoke in a calm tone. I was really frustrated, but did not see this going anywhere as the guy was essentially gaslighting me by telling me they did not damage my car. I reluctantly paid the $80 and left. I plan on pursing legal action and getting an estimate from a professional, as this damage could cost at least a couple hundred dollars.
