Not sure how this has received anything less than five stars, because the chips AND salsa were the best I have ever had. We had the Baja tacos and shrimp nachos. Food was superb. I am not from here, but if I visit again, I will be back. So satisfied. Forgot to take food pix. Ooops. Lol. read more

The Original Mandito's - Tex-Mex Near Me - Round Top, Texas

Place is great!! The margaritas are wonderful, and made with fresh ingredients and top notch Tequilas, I don't mind Paying 10$/ drink, when they are that good. Food is prepared fresh daily with quality ingredients, and has that ole Mexican flair. Can't wait to again and get my margarita on! read more

Food is tasty but has a bitter after taste. Chips with salsa tasted like they were fried in old grease. Yuck! Cheese enchiladas are really greasy with the cheddar they use. My favs are chicken and beef enchiladas. I wish the food was better overall but this is what zero competition gets you. read more

We have eaten here many times and I'm sad to say we won't be back. Many of the waiters have left and the food has gotten terrible. We ordered half beef and chicken fajitas and got only beef. We never got chips and salsa despite asking twice. The rice was too hard to eat and the flour tortillas were greasy and hard. The last time we ate here we ordered chicken enchiladas and the chicken was cubed and dry. It used to be good but not anymore. We won't return. read more

Amazing restaurant! Owned by the Armando's owner in Houston. Food is great, margs are great, service is great.

Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Be sure to ask how much a mexican martini is before ordering because 1 small glass it was $16.00. I will definitely return but I'll stick with Dr Pepper. read more

We came here because our favorite spot in Burton is either under renovation or closing down. Regardless, we were excited because we love Armandos in Houston. At first the service was fine, but as the meal progressed (food was good) our server stopped coming to our table. I had to go to the bar to ask for a drink and we bussed our own table as we finished our appetizers. That is a clue to the server - come check on your table...as is walking up to the bar to get another drink. Then a young girl came in to pick up a large to go order - meanwhile I had asked our server for a to-go box and the check after sitting at the empty table for 10 min (another clue when the rest of the party leaves come check on your table). He had my credit card for about 15 minutes (the restaurant was not busy) before running it. All the male servers jumped to help this young lady take her food to her car. I could have walked out and never paid...regardless, the service was some of the worst I have ever experienced, which is a shame because Armando's service is excellent. read more

We live here in round top and come when we have a chance , do not come here if you want quality service . We decided to stop in for lunch and we asked for sweet tea 5 TIMES they brought us unsweetened. We waited almost 2 hours for food. Our order was received wrong and to top things off we really wanted dessert. The server assured us dessert was almost ready ....... Dessert comes out completely not what we ordered. ABSOLUTELY SHITTIEST SERVICE IVE EVER GOTTEN . Not to mention they don't care if they have crappy service it's no big deal to them because they have the monopoly on eating choices in our tiny town. read more

No service the worst place we have ever been to. Do not waste your time, We waited for 15 minutes for a person to bring chips, we asked for water, he brought it after 10 minutes, we just wanted nachos, he said he couldn't take the order... read more

I wish I could do 4.5 out of 5. We almost skipped it because of the lower ratings but were actually quite satisfied. I got the flautas which came with guac, beans and rice. The chicken was moist and a good amount of meat. My fiancé got a combo plate and enjoyed it too. My only complaint is the salsa was really mild. I asked if there was anything spicier and she said yes and brought a habenero salsa. It was quite good especially mixed into the salsa. It was also 75 cents which just seemed a little overpriced for the really small dish it came in. Overall small complaint and would come back - and probably by the overpriced habanero again. read more

We had the best Tex-Mex meal in years last night at Mandito's. My husband had the chicken enchiladas with ranchera sauce and I had the El Palacio combo plate--a chalupa with beef, crispy beef taco, and a chicken enchilada, ranchera. All perfectly balanced, fresh, delicious! the beef filling was as good as my gold standard from years past, namely Leo's on South Shepherd in Houston. Truly excellent! Keep it up!! read more

Have loved this restaurant for years. Yesterday was a total disaster, Grade F. Very slow service, basically the waitress appeared uncaring and incompetent. Asked for waters numerous times that never arrived and finally arrived at end of meal. wrong order (asked four times for missing nachos we ordered that arri ved over 30 minutes after we had our salads and were Burnt! and it was the manager who finally offered to get the forgotten nachos who brought them to us burnt. They were Terrible inedible nachos and I have always loved them. The waitress wouldn't bring us chips and said they were out of chips!?? Then we asked a water boy and he brought the chips right out? Very watery weak expensive margaritas. ( several people at Roundtop that we shared this experience with have said they have had bad experiences and watery margaritas as well) Women bathroom was not working, and the mens looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. There was a ring of dirt in the sink. It was disgusting. We finished off with the waitress spilling left over water glasses all over my friend's back and the waitress dropped the "F" bomb, walked off and didn't even apologize. She acted like we had spilt the water on her. It was terrible and mind boggling. Not going back. We should have asked for a discount or refund but just wanted to get out of there and they didn't offer to do anything about the waitress spilling the water on my friend who had the whole back of her dress wet or even clean up the water in the chair and on table. I had to do it when they finally brought a towel. Stick with Lulu's, Prost Wine Bar, Ellis Motel, and a great new restaurant - Boon and Co. Great food, friendly, competent outstanding service and atmosphere these places - Skip Manditos. read more

My friends and I came in for lunch one day about 1:00. The Please Wait to Be Seated sign was up but I guess we were so hungry we absentmindedly walked by and sat ourselves. A gentleman came with chips and salsa very quickly. Our waiter, however, was very slow and then when he did come over he asked if we were planning on eating. We replied we hoped to but were confused why he asked. He stated that we had seated ourselves instead of waiting. I apologized that we did not see the sign and he said "Well, the sign is right there." We would have left but we were starving. After we received our food, I asked his name and told him I thought he had been rude to us when we came in. He (Bernard) looked very surprised and asked how was he rude. We explained our opinions of the comments made and he said he did not think he was being rude and was sorry we felt that way. I have heard from other local people about being treated rudely at this restaurant. My friends and I will not be back here or any other establishment that Armando is opening in the Round Top area. They seem to cater to the tourists that visit and the weekend people with deep pockets. The locals are often treated poorly. read more

Terrible service and rude waiter! Have been coming to round top for many years and I miss los patrons being at this location. Manditos has overpriced food and never have enough staff to make things go smoothly. Manager and owner just stand around and don't help or assist their employees. Will not be coming back. UPDATED REVIEW: went back because husband wanted to try it. seemed like they got new staff and a new chef. Food was way better and staff was friendly and helpful. read more

This place was wonderful, and I'm a tough customer. We came in around 2:30ish on a Saturday. Restaurant was bright and clean. There is indoor or outdoor seating. My mom had the caritas and I had the steaks/chicken fajitas. Both were seasoned well, juicy, and tender. The rice and beans were out of this world. Guacamole and salsa were fresh and delicious. Waitress super friendly and helpful. Overall, a great experience. It was worth every calorie. I will visit this place when I'm in town again. Only cons: music was a little too loud, chips a little thicker than I like, and this place is too far from my home to visit every week. Thank you, Alicia G read more

Ordered the chilaquiles. The first order came with hard/dry fried eggs. I asked the waitress {kindly} to bring new fried eggs... runny. This photo is the second order of fried eggs. Needless to say.... not what I expected. I'll check this place off the list. read more

This place was really good but the only thing that I was really sad about was the pork tamales were extremely dry so I didn't eat it. I should have said something to the waiter but I didn't. I also had the cheese enchiladas which was great along with the chips and salsa and the queso dip were reall good. read more

After passing this cute looking little Mexican restaurant in round top, Texas, multiple times, I decided to finally go for it. I had my mother with me and she is a Mexican restaurant aficionado for over 50 years. We were seated right away and the waitress despite watching my mother limping and tried to put her at a table with the barstool height chairs and I informed her there's no way my little mother is going to crawl up into that chair and not fall down so she seated us at a booth which I understand on a Friday night will take up space for two people rather than seating a larger party so that was nice. We were served chips and salsa right away which was appreciated as we were hungry. Salsa was very thick and tasty and then I ordered a margarita. I ordered the jalapeño one and it was 1499. it was relatively tasteless and it didn't seem to even have much tequila in it. It was definitely not worth 1499. My mother ordered a Modelo which is a safe bet. We couldn't figure out what we wanted to eat so we opted for some queso and some guacamole to start. The guacamole was pretty tasteless and if that was the large I would hate to see the small it was less than a cup of guacamole and it had nothing in it but a mashed avocado and maybe some lime juice- 10$.The funny part was we ordered two things that require chips to even eat them and they left us with nothing but an empty basket for like 10 minutes. Then a lady who appeared to be management came by an offered to get us some chips. She was very cordial and attentive but it was very busy that night for some reason and no it was not during the antique show. It was a Friday night but right after Thanksgiving I don't know... sitting there staring at our food that we couldn't really eat was kind of a drag. I did see nachos served to a table nearby and they looked pretty good so I may give it a second chance but I'm not gonna go for the $15 margarita again. Our bill was over $40 for two drinks and two appetizers really not worth the cash. Just disappointed . I like a good jalapeño margarita that is sweet, sour, and a little spicy with tajin on the rim and after having 1/2 of a large, wondering if I might have needed to order the small. This one was watery and sad. I will try again and post an update. First try was kind of a bust but I am not giving up yet. read more

Literally the worst as far as food quality, service, price. Beans tasted burnt, salsa tasted like just tomato. No flavor. Cooked chicken rolled into a raw tortilla is NOT A FLAUTA!! This was after server forgot to put our order in. 45 minutes wait for ick food. Let's talk about the $10.50! bottle of Corona!! And $18 margaritas. My 2 beers and entree was $40. And it wasn't even busy. Never ever again. Do better Mandito!! read more

NOTE TO MY FELLOW YELPERS! Notice the 5 stars reviews on this restaurant are from people (all but one) who have only reviewed this restaurant or a few others (hmm all 5 star reviews which sound like nothing but or crap from owners or friends of owners. PLEASE before taking a review seriously, look st the members history. I have reviewed lots of restaurants over the many years i have used Yelp. I only give honest feedback and try to share what i would want someone to share with me before i try a new place. I stand by everything I share and hope it is helpful to you. Now, this was my review. I will NOT be back. Horrible horrible horrible! The food was not only lacking in flavor it was just plain bland and seemed to come from prepackaged items. I have had better Mexican food up north! Way up north! The salsa tasted like it came from a jar of average store bought salsa. The owners of this building should be ashamed for not renewing the lease and forcing Los Patrones out. They were in this building for a very long time and served pretty good Mexican food with excellent service. We were always greeted with smiles and fast service. Rumor has it the owners and their friends said "Now we will finally have good Mexican food in Round Top." Well Epic fail! The reviews here must be from the new owners, employees or friends because this food was a huge disappointment. Service was not horrible but far from friendly or even average. Our drinks were only refreshed once after flagging someone down and no one ever came back and asked if we were enjoying our meal or needs anything. Bathrooms were grossly dirty with trash on the floor and a funky odor. Old food under our table was pretty much the last straw. Will NOT be back. Such a shame because we were hoping for better. read more

BEWARE NEW OWNER is a Jack$ss I've been coming here 4 years will not be back. They will not be in business long treating peeps like this WHERE DO I BEGAN - First of all new owner is truly more concerned with impressing his drop by friends as other reviewers said. I witnessed this with myself. - Tonight I was told I'd be waited on quicker if I waited at the bar 20 minutes later the bartender had not waited on me finally moved me to a table - then I mentioned how long it took to the OWNER / Maître d' and he said and I quote "Well GD MAN!!" He actually dropped the GD word on me - Then after patiently waiting 40 minutes for my enchiladas I was enjoying my tea and texting on iPhone and waiter told me to pay and leave they needed table for large group - I mentioned it to owner as I was in disbelief and he just turns around and walks off!!! - I've never been treated so rudely in a restaurant ever as bad as this read more

Went there last night to try for the first time. We expected a wait, but had no problem getting a table at ~7:00pm on Friday night. Service was attentive almost to the point of annoying, with several people coming by several times to ask how everything was. Started with guacamole, as that's my litmus test for Tex Mex. it was okay, more like smashed avocados than properly seasoned guacamole. No cilantro, garlic, cumin, salt, pepper, etc. I had steak tacos al carbon and DH had one of the combo plates. Both were okay, neither outstanding. Queso for tacos was a little strange. Not Velveeta, but not queso blanco or anything recognizable. DH said enchiladas were ok, but bland. Speaking of bland, salsa at table was very bland. No zing in anything. Red salsa was okay, but absolutely no zip. Green salsa had an odd tang that neither of us cared for. I would normally have a margarita with my Tex Mex, but unwilling to spend $10 for a small margarita out of the margarita machine. And that was least expensive. My rule of thumb is that the margarita shouldn't cost more than the dinner. Bottom line, we *might* go back, but not sure this place is going to be here for long. We were sort of bummed since this place kicked out the former cheapo Tex Mex place and was lauded as the next great restaurant in the area. We don't mind paying more for higher quality, but prices seemed high to us for what we got. It's really about a 2 1/2 star, but I rounded up for extra effort. read more

Here for the antique week(s) in Round Top, I realize there are limited options when it comes to food but do not go to Mandito's. Had the salad bowl with steak which had very little flavor. The place will be packed but again that is because of the limited options...just an FYI!!! read more

Stopped in during a quick trip to Round Top and wasn't expecting anything special but needed some Mexican food in my life....bad! Well, I was more than shocked at how good this place is! The salsa needs a little work but who needs salsa when you have food this good!!! read more

I was recently in Round Top for the antique fair. You'll probably eat there because there are not a lot of food choices, but don't have high (or really any) expectations. The food is bland, the service slow (and they never brought anything I requested) and the $12 margarita was all ice. Well...I did like the chips but the salsa was terrible. walked in with a friend for a late lunch and sat down was ignored for 10 minutes ( I am not exaggerating) then asked waiter for a tea and a coke he looks at me and says are you here to eat I said of course he gets a rude stuck up snob look on his face and says you are supposed to wait to be seated. I told him I didn't realize that he rolls his eyes at me and I said that's it we got up and left. my family settled round top in mid 1850s and my family is still there myself along with family frequent many places in and around town and back in the day if a business owner or there staff treated their customer like this then they were black balled! I will make it my mission to steer as many people away from this stuck up restaurant as I can I sure hope the owner can make enough money off of antique festival cause us locals won't patronize this place ever again I mean NOT EVER!!! food isn't all that either...... read more

Pork tamales and queso were delicious! House margarita was fresh and tasty. Definitely a good choice when in Round Top. Service has that small town vibe, a little slower paced because no one is really in Hurry in the country but isn't that the way it should be? A manager type younger fellow was very friendly and accommodating. Only complaint is that the salsa/sauce served on on entrees was extremely spicy hot. My friend poured it all over her tacos and then had a hard time enjoying them. read more

Amazingly AWFUL After being ignored upon entering, we were finally "greeted" by someone so rude, we asked for a manager... only to find out that the person who was treating us and others at the door so poorly was actually the owner!?! We decided to quietly leave, but the offending and offended owner followed us into the parking lot, yelling at my 85 year-old father all the way to the car. We will never step foot in the restaurant that was one of our mainstays for years as Klump's and Los Patrones. We can't wait for Mandito's to fail so we can include the next restaurant iteration in our semi-weekly dining rotation. If you're looking for great food and service, go to JW's just up the road in Carmine. You won't regret it! If you go to Mandito's, you will. read more

Went here today. They were busy so we had to wait.. no problem. Got table & then it started! Had the worse server I have ever experienced! He was rude & ignored us for the longest time. When he did come by.. he made excuses about why he couldn't take our drink order & then wouldn't take our drink & food order at the same time. After 30 minutes of waiting & eating chips, we got to order. He told us it would take a long time for the food so be patient. He finally brought our drinks... water! Nothing hard & I asked 4 times for lime before going to the bar to get it myself. Food came .. another busser brought it. I asked for sour cream. Never got it. Gave up & ate my food. It was good but really not in the mood for it after all we had endured. After eating... server asked if we wanted to see our ticket or just give him our credit card. Then got mad because we wanted to see the ticket. Brought ticket & then held up his hand computer in a sarcastic way to show us what he was charging us. He then held the computer & told my husband to put in his tip & sign it... as he watched. Then he was bad about a lack of tip that he wanted & started slamming our plates together. He hadn't cleaned a single table but took it upon himself to clean ours... banging plates, salt & pepper shakers & flower vase & then shoving my husband's arm off the table with his rag as he mouthed us the whole time. He husband told him we had heard enough & he needed to be quiet. I have never experienced anything like that. We are normally great tippers & especially with people trying to recover from Covid but he was just aweful! If you eat here... don't let them give you the waiter who also makes drinks at the bar! He's horrible!!! read more

There is nothing authentic or legit about this Tex-Mex place. This is bland, flavorless, over-priced food geared toward rich Houston retirees who have weak constitutions and weekend ranchettes in the area.
