Does my review really matter? It's all that's here. That's why their prices and service is as is. To start with we ordered margaritas. The large spicy was $17. It was not good. Being an ex bartender I ordered a shot or Cointreau to add to it so it was decent. There's a $20 margarita in a plastic cup. So hubby had the super burrito and he said it had no flavor. I had the chicken mole enchiladas which actually were decent but I had to have a side of mole because they were dry. Service? Meh. But it's a decent place to eat in Roundtop. We were in Winedale for an event yesterday, so came to Round Top to walk around and grab dinner, and, wow, this place has really grown since we started coming ten years ago. Our daughter was beyond hangry and demanded Tex Mex, and was unmoved by our pleas warning her of Mandito's terrible ratings online. And so we came. It ended up being fine. This place's main issue is that their menu (and its prices) act like they think they are upscale, but it's just the down-n-dirty stuff. The frozen and rocks margs were limey and not sickly sweet, so that was a good start to the experience. Loved that they use the thick chips here! We inhaled almost all of them along with some pretty good salsa and respectable queso. The main dish we shared--Lulu's--was where things fell apart. The chicken was definitely the thawed stuff from a bag and the taco it was in was beyond bland (cheese enchilada was OK). The side of street corn was a tiny portion for the price and the tajin crumble or whatever they called it was essentially just the powder on top. Our daughter's usual quesadilla was whatever. Anyway, our waiter was nice enough but we'd hardly say it was anything other than basic service. This place was super cute!! It was very centrally located in Round Top TX. You could tell that this was a very popular place. If you come, sit outside! It's nice to watch the cars drive by on the front porch. The guacamole is AMAZING!!! Their chips and salsa were extremely fresh, you could tell it was made in house. They know what they are doing. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the rice was a little undercooked and the beans were as well. They were a little hard. Overall, I would definitely come back here! What can you improve? EVERYTHING! 1st weekend of Round Top Antique Festival and you were ill prepared with wait staff. We ordered small queso and a quesadilla. The queso came quickly but could someone tell me why you don't teach your staff to deliver a basket of chips with it! The queso was cold in the middle anyway but to wait and wait for the waiter to come by again was laughable. The queso comes in a tiny plastic container. It's a reflection of how you feel about your food and your customers. Why not just put it in a dog bowl! It took us close to an hour b4 getting our quesadilla. ONE HOUR! That was asking the waiter as he breezed by, where our food was. 3x's!!!! By the way he never came by the entire hour we were there to ask us if all was ok. He FINALLY came out with our order and said he had to make it. I think perhaps he forgot to put the order in. Paying our bill: we had to look around for 10 minutes trying to find him. The miserly 2 items of food we ordered came to $56? or so dollars. WHAT! "Well you had a margarita!"No we didn't, that's an empty cup you put the limes in. Bar was a mess with dirty glasses, plates and no one tending bar. Under staffed was the least of the problems. We were the last ones seated after having 2 parties seated ahead of us even though we were ahead of them. Turned people away an hour before close. Great guacamole, good food. Great waitress. She leaves comes back and my husband is half done with his meal she has tacos for me and says she had them put lettuce on the tacos without asking me because the cabbage does have onions. I don't like lettuce on my fish tacos it gets wilty. I am really upset at this point and I have already taken my insulin I am type 2 diabetic and need to eat so my sugar didn't bottom out. The menu was much smaller and the food couldn't be more plain tasting! The salsa had 0 flavor; we added lots of salt in an effort to help the flavor. But not much improvement! The queso was just as bad. We had to ask for napkins, no tables had napkins. The taco meat in the tacos and burritos was just browned ground beef. Zero seasoning! We decided to give this place a try because there are so few restaurants open during the week. All in all, it's not a bad place and I'm wavering between giving it 3 or 4 stars. The cons: service was **extremely** slow and there was only one other table occupied. After being brought waters and utensils about 15 minutes later, we finally had to walk up to the bar to ask for menus. The complementary salsa had a nice consistency but no flavor, oddly enough. As for the entrees, the Spanish rice was uneventful and mixed with a generic frozen veggie blend, and the burrito bowl needed some help. It came with white rice, which made it very bland, and needed a sauce of some kind. And, lastly, the $12 house margarita was slightly flavored water and completely meh. The pros: the refried beans are superb and you can taste smoky ham-hock. The burrito bowl was massive and could be split between 2 people, though needs salsa added. The mole sauce for the chicken enchiladas is fantastic! So rich and complex. And, the beef for the beef fajitas was well seasoned. All that being said, if we're ever in Round Top on a week day again we would stop by, but we'll be skipping the expensive lime water and sticking with regular free water. read more

Came here on my way home from Houston on a friends recommendation. I went pretty early for dinner so there was no wait and not much of a crowd. While I ended up going with a fairly light meal (relatively) this seems to be a great place to come if you're hungry. Their combo plates looked to be an unfathomable amount of food given the price. Alas I decided that would not lead to good things on the remainder of my drive. The free salsa we started out with was tasty, had a nice peppery flavor to it and I appreciated that they have chips capable of handling the fairly heavy salsa. For my entree I went with the blackened tilapia and switched in Mexican rice instead of white rice. This ended up being a really good choice as the Mexican rice was the star of the meal. The rice was super rich and had a good mild spice. Unfortunately the rice stood out as the blackened tilapia didn't have too much flavor to it. The texture was also much chewier than I would have liked. I was interested to see how guacamole went on a dish like this, but it was also fairly disappointing. One of my biggest food pet peeves is when guacamole just tastes like mashed avocados and unfortunately this fell into that category. Overall, if you're visiting round top for longer than just a rest stop I think it's a great value. However compared to the Tex mex options you can find in other areas the quality is definitely subpar. read more
