Mandarin is located at a strip mall complex near the north east corner of Rexdale and Highway 27. It's not common I actually want to go to Mandarin as while I like North Americanized Chinese food I'm not really big on buffets. Still this is a decent option for lunch because it's not as expensive and while they don't have a full menu such as seafood, sashimi or full carving station it's still ok for lunch. The advantage Mandarin has is that they can take on a large party at pretty much any given time within reason. If you give them a heads up of a possible large party, they have the room and they may be able to accommodate. I had a large party I was bringing for around lunch time and that's the thing, unknown amount of patrons with a ballpark time we'd be arriving and they put aside an area just for us. There's different pricing schedules for children under 12, adults and seniors as well. For the most part this Mandarin like many are well staffed. There's no lacking in being able to get refills, plate being taken away or entrees at the islands being empty. Things run pretty well at this location so I have to give them that.

Placed an order for delivery- lady on the phone took my order quickly understood everything and she was friendly, the delivery gentleman was also friendly overall good customer service Mandarin never seems to lack in the customer service department. I was super hungry-opening the packaging as if it was a Christmas gift but once my eyes made contact with the food I was immediately disappointed!! I never received a bad meal from Mandarin or ever been disappointed, this Mandarin is not Mandarin its "fake" Mandarin!! WARNING: DO NOT EAT HERE Food was not fresh my entire meal was not fresh and the oil they use to fry, I am not sure when was the last time they changed there oil! GROSS over cooked food-dry-tasteless and hard this "Mandarin" has disgusting food if you're smart you'll never eat here!! I got ripped off -$60 down the drain I will never order from this location-NEVER

Mandarin has always been my go to Chinese Canadian style restaurant, they serve both Chinese and Canadian style food as well as a little bit of everything else. The food is always good and I find that the food is consistent through the different locations, service is also good when it's not overly crowded. For me the chicken wings here are my staple food, crunchy salty and meaty can't go wrong with a plate to start. I love the huge selection at the salad bar as well, all you can eat cocktail shrimps and muscles. Stop at the soup station and there are always a good selection of tasty soups. Dessert table is just as big as the hot food table, don't be shy sample everything on there they are all delicious. Nothing bad to say here. Another satisfied Yelper here!

Food was good. Dessert was okay. Customer service is excellent. Felt very welcomed! Inside looks gorgeous!

Look at how burnt everything is!!!!

Did take out which consisted of a combination. Had chicken balls, chicken fried or should I say BURNT rice, beef with almonds swimming in sauce. Called to complain because the chicken balls were fried burnt as well. The owner has the audacity to tell me that no one else has complaint all evening! Not my problem. Cook your food properly. See the pic. Don't eat here, your better off eating at McDonald's

Varieties are there but not the flavor

There was a pretty big variety of dishes: many Caribbean classics but also some rarer ones. Service was not great - they took a while before asking what I wanted to drink. The food was largely delicious, though nothing was labelled so I wasn't sure what many dishes were. The dishes nearer the entrance were better; e.g. fried chicken & spicy chicken. Split pea soup & peanut porridge/soup (if it was porridge it was too thin) were pretty good. At the back, the goat was pretty bony & not so tasty, the rasta pasta & fried vermicelli were ok & the curry vegetables were so so. The buffet was $21.99 plus tax, a 50% price hike from what is presumably 2020's price on the website. It was also rung up as 2 ackee and saltfish because they hadn't updated their system yet, which was rather odd.

The chicken is served on a bed of rice and peas with coleslaw (yumm!) and chicken. I found the jerk chicken was delicious and super flavourful. The stew chicken was drier than the jerk chicken but it was still good. I also believe they put butter in their rice - the rice tastes almost... cheesy? And for my lactose sensitive friends, you might also feel it in your gut! But still an enjoyable dish!

Every table has their own lamp (which is awkwardly placed since it's hard to see the person diagonally or directly across from you) and a tv to watch the races. We came on a Thursday night and had the 8 oz prime rib with 2 lobster tails. For members it's $19.99 and non-members it's $29.99. My aunt commented that my uncle and I were eating all our veggies first. This is because they were cooked so well and very tasty. A downfall with ordering prime rib and steak is that there's a high chance that your meat will come out too cooked for your liking. Three people ordered medium rare and it was served just under medium well. The NY cheesecake did not taste like other NY cheesecakes I've had before. The crust was too soft and the centre was very airy and not firm. The brownie was alright. I suspect that their desserts are bought and not made in-house. Even though there weren't any races the night we went it was still a good experience.

FOOD 5/5: There's no way I could rate $14.99 for a delicious prime rib and two lobster tails anything less than 5 star. But regardless, the prime rib was cooked to perfection. The lobster tails seem previously frozen as they're hard to remove from shells, and lack butter to dip. Regardless amazing value (Thurs and Friday nights only). SERVICE 4/5: Good service but nothing spectacular. Came on a popular specials night so the servers had a lot on their "plates." Still very friendly and attentive when we needed anything. This is a great dinner at a great price.

On top of that, there's a dry meat corner & a fried stuff corner. They cover a lot of ground, eg there's both dry & gravy chili chicken. The spread is probably big because it's also used for takeout (I saw staff scooping food from the buffet into a container a few times). The food is mostly of decent quality. Best of all, they're really cheap: Saturday dinner was $17.99 plus tax. They get 4.5 stars. The fried rice was tasteless but the veg Hakka noodles were pretty good. The Butter Naan was decent as naan but a bit dry for butter naan. Butter chicken used tandoori chicken, giving extra flavour & had a very rich sauce (shared with the paneer makhani). It was especially good. There were quite a few desserts: fruit, 2 mini cakes, ice cream & Indian deserts, Both mini cakes were dry. The Indian desserts & fruit were decent. Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted to a very clean and modern ambience that reminded me kind of like some of the big buffets in Las Vegas. Very cool setup where they have 3 self serve fountain drinks which is included in your buffet price. In the middle they have a grilling area where they are grilling Basa fish, salmon, chicken, sirloin steak. The steak was amazing they put this butter, garlic garnish on top that makes it so delicious. I had 8 of these steaks this evening! They also had a stir fry, soup noodle where you can choose your own ingredients, different vegetables and protein and carbs for them to either turn into a stir fry or soup noodle. They had plenty of ice cream to choose from as well as a soft serve ice cream machine. The service provided by the employees were top notch, so friendly, and helpful. I have been here twice, two years apart. After my glowing review I decided to come back…read more Unfortunately, what I didn't fully understand was that to show up on a Saturday night without a reservation (for a Chinese buffet?) would result in a 1.75 hour wait. But I waited it out in their tiny waiting area. When I got in, the food was good but not great. I later learned why... I got terribly sick during my visit and spent the rest of the evening with a stomach bug. Did I get it here? Before my visit? I dunno, but I don't think it was related to the food itself. So I will let my 2024 review (which I posted under the wrong location at the time) apply to this one. PS: the room I was seated at this time had a magnificent 20' tall waterfall. 2024 Review: I have never been on a cruise ship or two a resort hotel, but I imagine the experience I had here would be comparable. Finding this place, which is located in a commercial or industrial warehousing district, would be challenging without GPS. Upon pulling up we thought it might have been an old hotel at one point. The entrance is grand, though, and nicely decorated. When we walked in we were met at a greeter station and introduced to a guy who was our "guide" around the buffet. He pointed out the various stations and featured entrees as well as his favorites (I suspect they are told what to say), and then led to the "blue room". Named because it is entirely blue in an almost Disney-esque way, it had one wall composed entirely of a fish tank! We took turns getting our food and watching our toddler, and there were lots of options here. Of note, nothing was especially great but nothing was terrible either. Many of the American-Chinese dishes were missing, but in their place were more things geared for kids. They had a full dessert station with lots of pies and cakes and cookies. They didn't have a lot of seafood but that was fine with me. They had sushi and a prime ribbing carving area. They had a koi pond and a panda display and a gift shop (!). In all, it was like walking through a movie based on a Chinese buffet. This is the flagship restaurant of the Mandarin chain and not all are like this. They told us about their signature "sweet and sour chicken meatballs", which are like sweet and sour chicken except each piece is the size of a golf ball. I remembered these were common in Toronto and not in the USA and now I know why. I don't think the food was better than average, but the experience was mindblowing. No doubt it is built into the price, but what a fun experience it was to come here. I would love to come back for a special occasion.
