I think Mandarin Restaurant is a local Toronto chain. A solid Chinese Buffet with some good desserts. Looks like Mandrin is very popular or at least well known to most the live in Toronto...with good reason. While I wouldn't call the food here Traditional Chinese, it's actually good and the selection is decent. The staff were attentive and friendly. No complaints... Just like any AYCE / Buffet spot pace yourself and eat the food stuff first...

My family and I came here on a Monday evening to celebrate my dad's birthday. It's tradition for us to go to 5 every year, but that stopped in 2018, so it's been a long time since I visited. First impression was that the selection was small and disappointing. I've been to other buffets in Markham and North York after the pandemic and they had way more food options. Since it was my dad's birthday, a staff member came by with a mini cupcake and sang happy birthday even though we literally just sat down, didn't even had the chance to take one bite. It felt super rushed and at such an odd timing. They used to make the experience more personable. Otherwise, food was mediocre and bland. Sashimi was gone half the night and when it was available it was slimy. The roast beef was dry beyond imaginable. My boyfriend got the key lime pie, and half of it was frozen, which is ridiculous cause you can at least wait for it to thaw before putting it out. Overall, I will find a new buffet now for my dad's yearly birthday celebration. Even he was disappointed, and he usually doesn't have high standards when it comes to eating out.

After watching the Mandarin New Year Dumpling Festival Commercial on TV for the umpteenth time this year, we started to wonder why we haven't eaten there in years. Unable to answer that question, we decided to try it the next day. We arrived at about 12:30 PM on a Tuesday and the restaurant was surprisingly busy for a weekday. We were immediately greeted at the door and only had to wait a few minutes while they found us a table. As we were walking to the table the hostess explained the special items they have for the dumping festival. Once seated, the waiter immediately gave us hot towels for our hands. This was a nice touch and I'm not sure if they did this the last time we were here. So, it's not the service that has kept us away. After the towel service, we roamed the buffet. The items seemed promising with the usual variety plus the special dumpling items. Once we tried the food we realized the answer to our question. The food, even the special New Year special items, were mediocre (although not completely unexpected). Some of the items we tried were: - Deep Fried Har Gow - Not everything is better deep fried, especially Har Gow, which was first steamed like it supposed to be, then battered and deep fried. The batter didn't really stick to the skin and the skin just absorbed all the oil. - Shui Mui - This was one of the best items in the buffet. It tasted like decent Shui Mui. - Egg Custard - The shell was pretty good, but the filling did not taste like real egg custard. Overall the service was very good. We even received red packets that contained a souvenir coin at the end of the meal. However, this did not overcome the fact that most of the buffet offerings were disappointing, except for a couple exceptions. The funny thing is that we will inevitably return to Mandarin at some point again, repeating (continuously) this exact same cycle of wondering why we haven't eating at Mandarin in such a long time, tying it again, and then vowing never to return.

Came here on Christmas Eve last year and Christmas Day this year with my family, I don't have a lot of memory of the former, so I'll review this meal. Starting off we arrived and waited in the super fun line of other people who had made reservations, luckily there were lovely pink mints to keep me from starving. We were seated and waited for the rest of our family, the waitress was pretty nice but when everyone arrived, my grandfather tried to order several different beers and was comically denied. The waitress kept avoiding his question for different beers and basically forced him to order the beer she recommended. It was kind of funny, but also not. I'm surprised my grandfather didn't yell at her. Anyway, food time! So I started off with the Singapore noodles as they are my favourite noodles of Chinese cuisine (though mandarin isn't exactly real Chinese food). They were ok, I've definitely had worse, but they had too much cumin in their curry powder and not enough salt. However it was dry and not liquidy, which is a plus. The meatballs were pretty good, I think they had wheat in them, because I died a little bit after, though that might've been the onion rings, which were solid with red sauce, something I haven't seen in ages. The BBQ rib was pretty great, I should've gotten a second one. But I was too overwhelmed and needed to sample everything. The curry wasn't curry enough, should've taken some cumin from the noodles. It was very lacking in flavour and creaminess. But again, it's Mandarin and I probably shouldn't expect things from it that it won't deliver. The prime rib was amazing. I could've just eaten that, but I was getting full by the time I hit it. The mashed potatoes lacked salt and butter. Finally the desserts, the NY Cheesecake was the winner in terms of cheesecakes. It was firm and delicious. The cheesecake squares felt like they didn't set? Does cheesecake set? It was runny. The banana ice cream was very real in flavour, not artificial tasting, I just didn't love it too much. But the peppermint ice cream. That was amazing. I need more of it. A constant IV of peppermint ice cream. It was just perfect. It kind of made me think of green tea ice cream, but less matcha. All in all it was a good time. 4/5

While the restaurant had recently celebrated their 40th anniversary, Mandarin still strives to be the number one all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant in Ontario. Price: This where my review is dependant on either 4 or 5 stars. Going for lunch is much more worthwhile than dinner. $18.99 / person for lunch (Monday - Friday). Meanwhile dinner prices are $29.99 / person (Friday - Sunday, ($26.99 for Monday - Thursday) On Mandarin's website it says that their dinner buffet has prime rib and roast lamb (crab legs for special occasions). Lunch is 5 stars while dinner is 4 stars due to the price difference Service: Since it's a buffet; service is great. Wait staff is attentive in taking finished plates, refilling drinks and refilling food that is low on the buffet. Food: Mandarin's food selection has always been extravagant, there are over 40 topics ranging from pizza to sushi. There's always something for everyone at Mandarin. The food here is very good, I recommend going for the salmon, teppanyaki, carving tables, salads and desserts. Personally, I like to get a small portion of fried food or avoid it all together Atmosphere: The atmosphere is nice, the combination of the decor with the food is a treat to look at; I always appreciate the presentation of food rather than just it sitting there. The dining decor is nice with a fish tank and different foliage as decorations. The koi pond when you enter is iconic to Mandarin.

I haven't eaten Mandarin in the longest time so I decided to come with my three children as their prices are very fair for kids. I approached the hostesses podium. Two women were there, Ivy and Annie P. These two ladies do not belong in this position. The hostesses are the first point of contact a customer encounters and neither of these women smiled or looked happy to be there. We were seated quickly and my accommodation of being close to the buffet was granted. The buffet itself looked very clean and the food was often refreshed. Our waitresses were fantastic. I wish I had gotten their names so that I could have mentioned them in this review. They had plenty of smiles to spare and were very gracious in collecting our plates and topping our refills. On my way out my children had noticed the cotton candy machine. So I approached Annie P to ask her if it was working and she mumbled something under her breath and had the most disgusted look on her face. I continued to ask her if they can be made small because my kids didn't want big ones and she turned her back again with a disgusted look on her face. She flipped the switch on the machine and left us standing there.. another employee had noticed us and what was going on then graciously came over to make us our cotton candy. This behaviour is really unacceptable especially at a franchise such as Mandarin. Employees like this take away from others who are going above and beyond their job descriptions to make people feel welcomed and this is why I gave the place 2 stars. I will not be back.

Was provided a hot lemon infused cloth to clean up prior to going up to the stations to eat. Cup never emptied without an ask for refill. Very attentive the entire time. We were sat in the 'C' dining area area. There were room upon room so there's plenty of seating. Each room with a slightly different theme. Ours had a wall of beautiful fish tanks. The dining area, food stations and bathrooms were all very clean, which is so important at a buffet. They even have gloves at the end of each station in case you didn't want to touch the serving utensils with your bare hands. The variety of food goes from everything you can imagine at a Chinese buffet like sushi and fried rice to American options like burgers and fries, to surprises in-between like New England clam chowder and prime rib. Tons of dessert- hard ice cream, cakes, pies, fruit, jello, even Crème brûlée and waffles. One of my favorite surprises was the variety of mocktails. Most places offer me pop as a mocktail or a Shirley Temple at best. Decent pricing. Father's Day special dinner menu was $50/pp (Canadian) about $36/pp (American) which is pretty great for all you get and that's WITH their high tax. I believe the refular pricing is about $10/pp less. A must try only 30 minutes from Western NY.

They were quite busy with takeout orders which I took as a good sign. We ordered the Beef Sirloin Noodles level spicy and numb(4/5), Breaded Shrimp (5/5) Seafood Fried Rice (4/5) and Lamb Skewers (4/5). Beef Sirloin Noodles were delicious. The broth itself was not overly salty compared to other places we've been to. I enjoyed the addition of peanuts to this dish for that extra crunchy texture and nutty taste. The noodles were cooked perfectly. They were bouncy and chewy. The beef itself was good. Some were a tad bit chewy. I wish there was more bok choy. We'd also opt for extra spicy and extra numb next time. Breaded Shrimp was enjoyable. You can't go wrong with this dish. It was crispy, and the batter to shrimp ratio was decent. Seafood Fried Rice was good as well. Again, we liked how it wasn't overly salty. We were able to sense the taste of the seafood. I wish they added more scallops since we only got two pieces in the whole dish. Lamb Skewers were satisfying flavour-wise. We really liked the seasoning on them. It was on the chewier side but it was manageable. We'd like to try their other skewer options next time. Overall, such a good spot for affordable and delicious food. I'm glad my family recommended this place. I'd like to point out that a customer was being problematically entitled and rude yet the female server stayed professional. I thought she handled the situation quite calmly which I wanna commend her for. P.S. The restaurant has a sign on their door saying not to bring pets inside. It is a nice local spot to get your Chinese food cravings fixed. Their menu seems to be the same for all locations, the only difference being the price, all locations potentially the same other than the downtown location. See their website: https://www.congeequeen.com/menu.php and select your location. It has been a while since we have eaten at the Congee Queen outside of the Toronto (Dundas/Yonge) location, so we were a bit surprised at the price difference (8-10% difference). This location (Heartland Town Center) feels like it has the right price for the menu. With cash, you also get a 10% discount. We were here on a Wednesday for an early dinner around 15:30 - 17:00 and it was about medium full for the main area. People were coming and going at a good pace. For our group of four, we ordered: - B3 Salmon Congee $11 ($12 downtown) - H11 Chicken Salted Fish Fried Rice $18.25 ($19.75 downtown) - K34 Fried Bean Curd with Veggie $19.50 ($21.50 downtown) - K42 Salt and Pepper Squid $16.50 ($18.25 downtown) - K53 Fried Chili Turnip Cakes $13.75 ($15.00 downtown) Service was a bit slow, but not the longest as there were only 2-3 staff taking orders that day for about 15-20 tables. If you signaled for assistance, they will come. Once ordered thought, the food came out in about 5 mins and all the dishes were ready soon after. Tea is refilled on request, just ask. As usual, the fried rice and congee is what they are known for, it was excellent as usual. Depending on the group you go with, YMMV, but for our order combination, this usually works comes out at the same time and everything is hot and tasty. The turnip cakes are the softer type and they even accommodated checking for shrimp. They are usually good about seafood checks. All in all, great experience. With the discount and tips all in, it was less than $100 total at $25 per person. It has been a while since we've eaten out with a group at that price point. Will keep in mind to meetup at any of the non downtown locations in future.

So for a family occasion, we headed again to the Heartland location with its distinct high ceiling resembling cool porcelain. This place was packed as usual with a waitlist register at the front. We didn't wait long to be seated but the service and dishes were generally disappointing. After dropping off a pot of tea, no one bothered to check in on us again. While we usually have the super bowl congee, the exorbitant prices nowadays for porridge that we can make at home with a blender is difficult to justify. Instead we had Empress Fried Rice ($22) that was served like slop but was still nicely balanced between sweet unagi glaze topped with bonito flakes. We cleaned the sides to make it more presentable for our meal. The dishes that followed next were hit & miss on the seasoning. Sweet Corn Garoupa Fillet ($24.25) was served with the battered fish along side a cup of thick corn soup but lacked flavour whether we dipped in the soup or not. Similarly the Mixed Fungus & Fried Gluten in Hot Pot ($24.25) was also light on flavour despite being one of our usual go-to dishes here with good variety of mushrooms. While Stir Fried Sirloin with Rice Roll in Satay Sauce ($18.75) was quite savoury with a good amount of sirloin chunks but too salty. Skip it or hit it? For a $100 meal, we'll be thinking twice about whether to visit this location again.

Usually also get a bowl of seaweed soup with your order (per person) though this time around we didn't get any. We ordered a lot for dinner. For appetizers, we ordered the braised pork pan-fried buns, which were amazing. The bun was really fluffy, and the filling was flavourful and just the right amount of juicy. We also had chive pork dumplings. These were also good, though I admit I prefer the pan-fried ones. In particular, our dumplings came out kind of gummy. We had some scallion pancakes which were nice and crispy, and very flavourful. Then, some dried beancurd sticks that were just the right amount of spiciness. Do keep in mind the beancurd sticks are cold (it surprised me the first time I had it). Finally, we had some honey garlic chicken wings. They fry their chicken wings really well, and they don't overdo the sauce which is great. We did have trouble fitting all of this on the table since we ordered so much. We managed, but just keep this in mind if you like to order a lot of appetizers. We each ordered a main. My boyfriend had the lemongrass chicken with egg on rice, which he enjoyed. I also enjoyed my Taiwanese braised pork. My pork dish was amazing and they cooked the egg really well. I was missing my time in Taiwan so I ordered the Taiwanese Braised Pork and Egg on rice. We also ordered Pumpkin Pie with Red Bean Filling, stir-fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, Juicy Chinese Pork Burger, and their Juicy Cheese Beef Burger. Everything was quite good especially the Chinese Pork Burger. The outer shell was so crispy and the pork meat was so juicy and was seasoned just right. The Taiwanese Braised Pork rice was good but definitely not as good as in Taiwan lol. Also, if coming here, you have to try their signature pan fried buns. That is what they are known for. We didn't order it this time because we've had it a bunch of times already. Overall, this restaurant always hits. It's not the most amazing food but like the name suggest, It is very home style comfort food.

The remains of the duck were used for make a duck fried rice and duck soup, again both were amazing. It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! No gratuitous mushy frozen peas needlessly added either. Well seasoned fried pork ribs and veggies completed the courses I had, everything was truly wonderful and I hope to revisit again.

We went there for a pre-Father's Day dinner and left disappointed. This was actually our third or…read morefourth visit, and unfortunately each experience has been worse than the last. I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

I know this place has some amazing reviews , but I'm really not sure why. Maybe its the lack of…read moregood Chinese food in the area so this place is the best. I've lived in Toronto, Durham, Peel and I can definitely say its been the hardest to find goood late night greasy Chinese food here in the Port Credit end of Mississauga. I'm still on the hunt! Customer service here was great. I called asked a few questions, than went in and grabbed a menu and went back to my car. Called over the phone and ordered she didn't know it was me and asked if i knew where they were located which was nice. So My order was General tao chicken ( we usually get chilli chicken but don't like it dry, prefer the sauced up spicy, so this is the equivalent at some places), chicken balls, chicken fried rice, and chicken wings. The total was about 40$, which is fair and the portions were alot less to what I was used to. The general tao chicken was not even a little bit spicy, even though she said it was so that was disappointing. On top of that the breaded part of the chicken was extremely soggy and the plate was full of soggy over cooked veggies underneath. the chicken wings were fried and greasy tasted great and well seasoned. Just not like what I'd usually get from a Chinese take out place as it just looked different the way it was breaded and fried. The rice was in a really small container w under cooked pieced of chicken that was very slimy and white and the rice was very bland. I had to overkill w soy sauce and bit of red sauce. Lastly the chicken balls of course 80% balls 20% chicken but tasted fine, just nothing special. I mean it was cheap and last minute but i definitely feel like i would not have ordered here if i had known cheap or not. They have alot to improve on or mayb they are better at making other items listed in reviews from others. Not sure how they have 5 stars. but hey to each their own right!
