I usually avoid buffets in NYC and have always avoided buffets when I visit Canada but this time I tried Mandarin located in this shopping mall (Niagara Square, 7555 Montrose Rd, Niagara Falls, ON L2H 2E9, Canada). Great variety of food, the quality was very good and the service was fine. Is all the Asian decorations tacky? NO, it is fun and festive! Good & fresh food, large variety, friendly service, reasonable price for AYCE buffet and easy parking; 5-stars! This location is only a short drive from the Niagara Falls hotels. Clean, friendly, and fresh. At first I was taken back a little by the price per person for a buffet. However, it is well worth every penny. Having this been our first time, the hostess explained where everything was in the restaurant along with the options and specials for the evening. Once seated the waitress came and offered our party warm hand towels to clean our hands with, went over the specials again and took drink orders The food was fresh and the trays were filled. The was staff was constantly cleaning and it showed. This place is in a strip mall but don't be fooled. Even my husband liked this place and he hates buffets. What I loved about this place: it's super cute and a lot of thought went into the decor with plenty of things to take photos of. The hostess who greeted us offered a quick tour of the buffet which was helpful but not really necessary, the place isn't as big as photos make you think it is. There were always lots of people on the buffet line checking that the food was fresh and restocked and that the line was clean! That's such a big issue at most buffets but not here. The service was phenomenal. Our waitress was pleasant and very quick to make recommendations, fill our water glasses and take away finished plates. They also give you warm towels before and after the meal which was a nice touch. Things that could be better: There is a lot of food, but mostly it felt like quality over quality, like don't get me wrong everything tasted fine but it's nothing I'd order as it's own plate or fell the need to return to try again. I highly recommend you grab a tiny portion of everything you like and try it before you loan load up. I came from Florida to see the Niagara Falls and was looking for a Chinese restaurant, now let me say I've been to many Chinese buffets throughout United States and I thought this one was going to be just another subpar experience. It was one of the best if not the best experience I've had at a Chinese buffet. The service was great, the ambiance was great and the place was superbly clean. Now to the food, when I say the food was like that; it was definitely like that! So good, full of flavor, so fresh, and so light I was in complete shock of how good this particular restaurant was due to the reputation of the average Chinese buffet. If I lived here I'd make this place my Sunday dinner extravaganza. I highly recommend this restaurant. Just go and see for yourself!! Oh my muthafrakin-snakes-on-a-plane-and-all-creatures-great-and-small. Yeah, these guys feel like 5-stars to me. Given the argument that all Asian buffets are equal, this joint seriously kicks ass and stands out compared to the other underachieving and uninspired Asian buffets I've gone to in San Diego. Is this the standard for Asian buffets in Niagara Falls or the greater Ontario? The joint is so nice and clean and decorated. Big and spacious. Check out the photos and displays. A clean bathroom with nice tiles far unlike the spartan walls that will reak of ammonia or clorox. Did I mention the koi fish pond by the front door? The typical buffet food was found being Chinese this, and Korean that, and Japanese else, but the curry caught my attentnion. Who serves chicken curry that was decently spiced at a buffet? Amazing. I had a few plates of that. Typically, the buffets I've been struggle to be up-to-date with cash registers. Note sarcasm. Yet, the wait staff bring along a portable register (I forget what they're called) and you pay at the table. Mind you, it's not that I've never seen such a steampunk device, but.. it's use at an Asian buffet is impressive. The staff is so friendly. It was as if I walked within a 2-foot radius of them, they'd smile, say hello, greet me, ask me if there's anything I needed. Are you serious? They offered me a mint from a nice jar with a tong on the way out. Being so nice wasn't even annoying. Is it this surely a Canadian thing because even the most awesome of Asian buffets I've been to are not this hospitable at all. The chefs/cooks behind the counter even complimented me. Oh dear, it's the Frankenstein of buffets. The place is large, lots of seating and there's just way to much...food. Yes that's coming from me. There is a ton of different types of food. The main buffet is a collection of bastardized Chinese food mixed with some more authentic version or should I say slightly less bastardized Chinese food and a salad and fruit bar. On the outer edges there are some sushi, pizza, grilled meats and a Thanksgiving feast. If you can't find something you like at this buffet you'll sure end up full trying to find it! None of the food is particularly good, there's just lots of it and it comes out pretty fresh. read more

I live in US and about 4 hours away from Niagara Falls, Canada. I always like to try different buffets when I am on a vacation. I don't know how many Chinese buffets I tried already. Before this buffet, I thought the one in Philadelphia was the best one. But after this one, this one became the best. A little bit more expensive than normal Chinese buffet, but it is way worth it. There are about double food selection than regular Chinese buffet. We just had lunch that day, but that lunch buffet is already better than many other dinner buffet. Lots of fresh salad, vegs, fruits etc. There are more authentic Chinese dishes. I especially like their BBQ pork, tested just like back to home. Their food tests better overall. The desserts are great, lots of different types that you don't usually get from regular Chinese buffet. Sure I will be back there when I go there again. read more

If you want to get away for a little bit from the touristy hustle and bustle of the Niagara Falls area, the Mandarin Restaurant is located a ways from all the tourist traps. This buffet is the first of it's kind which aims to please it's customers. From the moment you walk in, you will be escorted by a hostess who will show you around the buffet. You'll then be walked over to one of the restaurant's themed dining rooms. The food is another story, each entree prepared to a better than your typical buffet quality, almost Las Vegas like, with an extra labor of love. The service is phenomenal, each server giving a little more effort than your average buffet server. Peter, was one of our servers and made great conversation with us and very kind enough to give us some tips and to do recommendations in the area. The highlight of the Mandarin Restaurant for me was their asian streetfood style bbq and their ice cream bar. One of the things you must try here is their cotton candy with several scoops of ice cream on top. Hmmmm... Mandarin... I get it, the setting, the service, the theatrics, but... I didn't think the food was amazing for what I paid, so it's just a-ok for now. I'd heard so many people RAVE about Mandarin. Maybe my expectations were too high going in, but I find the standard of the food here to be on par with the local Asian buffets, so I didn't think this alone was worth a trip into Canada. What did I like? It's dumpling time right now because of the chinese new year and I love dumplings. The soup dumplings were delicious, as were some of the others I sampled. Some, like the chicken dumpling, had sero flavor and that was kind of weird. I like the sushi for the most part too, and some of the seafood. The cold kiwi mussels were chewy and flavorless though, which was so disappointing. We had great service, and enjoyed the experience, but I'm just not a fan and wouldn't recommend this to Buffalo area locals. Oh well, had to try it! read more

My family celebrated my mom's birthday by the falls this weekend. We decided to have dinner at Mandarin because there would be more variety for the price we were paying per person ($28.99). We arrived around 6 pm and were seated in less than five minutes. All of the food selections were always restocked and hot. The crab legs were delicious! So juicy and sweet. The service was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. Even the owner came by our table to ask how we were doing. Granted I went because the Yelp reviews were good but it's a buffet place for goodness sakes. How good can it be?? Very Good. The food was so fresh and tasty. And the variety!! There's something for everyone. The kids can be a bit picky and they really enjoyed the food. If it was up to them we would have visited two nights in a row, but they weren't treating to dinner the second time around, so it was a no go. We were not paying over $100 for a buffet dinner a second night in a row, but I have to admit I was tempted. I went back to the mandarin since the covid virus for the BUFFET. They call it all you can eat for a reason, and for ONE PRICE. Not you pay for each piece of food you get for a separate price The portions were small , very high priced , I could not understand why they are WANTING to close down their buffet ! If they keep doing it this way they will go out of business real soon . I HATE the way you are doing things now until you change things back to the way they were I will never be back, and neither will any of my family and friends . I honestly wanted to like it. I mean I've been to a dozen different locations, so I thought this one would be no different from any other (pun intended). How little did I know... Frankly, this was my most miserable, AND last visit to Mandarin ever (not only this location). They are trying hard, make no mistake about that - the place is clean, the staff are attentive - even the general manager walks around, introducing himself to patrons and offering his business card. The problem at hand is that I didn't come to this restaurant to eat the general manager's business card - I came there to eat food, and in this regard the place sorely lacks - almost as if they've used ingredients different from the rest of the franchises, with an awful aftertaste, and a general feeling of discomfort in the palate. The reviews here were good, so we decided to stop by. It had been a long day and we were hungry! This place is a buffet. Not a fan of buffets in general, but as I said we were hungry! Mixed review. The curry was pretty good, the kung pao was not (and I really like kung pao, having had it in Taiwan). Prime rib was mediocre...dry and not seasoned as near as I could tell. The Peking pork tasted like sweet and sour. The little lemon cupcakes were very good. Overall, average. Nothing special. If you're hungry and nearby it will do. Service was great. Hosts were incredibly friendly and my server was great as well. Also, the manger was friendly and was taking care of everyone in the dining room - good! Food tasted average. They didn't really have much to stand out. However, the food is fresh which was great. But overall, meh. They have a cocktail menu. I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea - was not worth the extra $7. Came by for dinner on a Monday night and there were quite a lot of people. They are doing a Canada themed for the month. Since we are in town for the week from the US, we got a chance to try some classic Canadian food. The decor was fun and the food was really fresh. The waiters are friendly and keep checking in on how we're doing. They are quick to strike empty dishes and bowls. The manager also came by to introduce himself. 3.5 stars. While I did enjoy my meal at the mandarin buffet, I think this place is just a tad bit overrated. Yes, the food is generally better than your average Chinese buffet. However the price is almost double the cost of the average Chinese buffet. Don't get me wrong, some of the food is legitimately great. I especially loved the prime rib, BBQ ribs, salmon, and dessert options. However, there were some lackluster dishes as well such as the lamb which was way over cooked dry. The pizza and sushi were low quality filler options. I think the Mandarin is great if you know which dishes are worth trying and don't mind paying a premium price for a westernized Chinese buffet. read more

After being away from Canada for 12 years, I returned to Mandarin for dinner. OMG the best meal of my vacation!!! Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. Sushi was phenomenal! My husband and I came here around 8 pm after we another sushi place we were trying to go to turned out to be closed. I was expecting food to be cold and stale since it was so close to closing.... but nope. I'll start with the decor and the restaurant itself. It was incredibly clean, very cute decorations. This review is for a weekend lunch buffet. It was labor day and we were out at the falls. Most of the restaurants were closed so we thought of trying this place out. I didn't have much expectations from a Chinese buffet because it's usually quantity over quality at such places. This place however is different. The food is really delicious, the staff is really friendly and the hygiene is really clean. Some of the items that stood out were salt and pepper shrimps, BBQ ribs, chicken curry, seaweed salad, chicken noodle soup, Boston clam chowder, banana pudding, brownie and the coconut walnut bars. Fantastic buffet! Our new favorite place! A HUGE variety of options - there's something for everyone, and the food quality is excellent! I did not have a single 'so-so' item. Lovely hostess and our waiters, Hassan and Ding, were incredibly warm, attentive and fun! Great sushi, seafood, salads, soups, fruit, steak, shrimp, chicken, deep fried goodies etc etc and options for kids. And the desserts not only look yummy, they ARE yummy! Ice cream and soft serve (I think it's yogurt?!) are also available. A beautiful big place, with a koi "pond," fish tanks and lovely decor. and Holy wasabi, we had a wonderful meal. Yeahhhh, right, I went there again! :)))). This time I enjoyed lots lots fresh crab legs with my friend. I always ask for my favourite server Afra's table. Thanks for this lovely lady, we had a good time again. We also tried two drinks this time, one called blue dragon margarita, it taste just like margarita but it has a dreamy blue colour, the other one called "lychee freeze" is a non-alcohol drink, I prefer the lychee freeze better, one is because I love the lychee flavour, second it's a sweet and sour drink, it makes me feel fresh in between my crab legs. I've been to this Mandarin buffet for lunch and dinner. Vast selection of hot / cold items. They always keep the dishes fresh. Being the Chinese New Year, they have a pot sticker and dumpling special. I should have taken some pictures and will do so when I visit again. My only negative comment is that one time, (not this visit) when I was given the washcloth pre-dinner, it smelled like it was sitting in the washer, or in the corner of the room, waiting for a spot in the dryer. Well it was a day I had anticipated and planned numerous details but ended up with plan B results which made for an equally great time but different. Started out enjoying the sun rise from our room. We enjoyed a Canadian McDonalds experience that Wendi already posted. Then enjoyed the Falls experience Canada side. We enjoyed some experiences at Clifton Hill. We made a few select purchases. Had issues with our logistics and ended up walking an extra mile. And walking in boots was aggravating. But no pain no gain. We relaxed for a short time and found a new meal adventure I figured was a great experience and romantic enough to spring my plan for the night. We ate at the most wonderful restaurant called Mandarin. It was a grand buffet and such a great staff that assisted me with my plan. First they come out with a cup cake with candles for my birthday it seemed but actually was for our 11 year anniversary of when I proposed. Then I asked the server if she liked helping with surprises and she said yes. Then I whipped out a jewelry box with a necklace. I call it "2 Hearts Beat as 1". So always great to play things close to the best. All the couples got a kick out of it. Enjoyed talking with the manager for her and crew assisting in an awesome evening. I was completely blown away!! From friends I had extremely high expectations, as they had raved about this place. The food was delicious, and hot!! How often do you go to a chinese buffet and the food is cold. It was well prepared and I knew it was good cause I never had to track down a soy sauce bottle. The range of food was wonderful and the desserts were out of sight. You couldn't have asked for better service from the hot towels provided to start and finish to drink service top notch each step of the way. only thing is it gets a touch pricey but you get quality that more then matches read more

Anytime we get a chance to eat at Mandarin Buffet, we do since most of the buffets where we live are bad. What you'll find at this location is a very enthusiastic welcome as soon as you walk in. Once seated you're taken care of very well. The selection at Mandarin is amazing!! Food presentation and freshness are also very good. Service has always been great both times we've eaten at this specific location. The dining area is large and clean as well as the bathrooms. There is also ample parking at this location. The only annoying part is if you come off the highway you have to drive towards the back of the mall as that's where the restaurant is located. I mention this because as soon as you turn into the parking lot you'll see a Mandarin sign which can be misleading as the restaurant is actually located at the back. Having said this I do know the sign is there for a reason. I've eaten at this location twice, almost a year apart and found both times to be very enjoyable, both food, and dining experience. read more
