After my wife and I came to Colorado for our anniversary and my birthday from Dallas Texas . it had been a great until we changed plans and want to come to this area to come check out the hot springs and the Cortez , mancos and Durango area we didn't book a room to the last minute and we sound up late and with Bad reception did you get the managers text about us checking ourselves in . I called him and he was very upset I woke him up and was very rude and I told him I could leave and he told if we stay to keep It down we had not shower or eaten anything . I was very up set no rest room and the room was very small and to top it off we had not got our luggage down and he locked the door I was pissed so me and my wife left I do not recommend this place to anyone if you come in from out of state.

They went the extra mile and took care of me with everything. It was one of the greatest hostel experiences I've ever had.

The only…read morereason I didn't give 5 stars is bc check in was a bit confusing; when I arrived there was no staff at the desk or in the lobby, and I didn't receive any info about how to check in. However, when I arrived I hunted down a phone number in an old confirmation email and got directly in contact with someone (David) who told me exactly how to find my room key and explained where everything was. The whole place is fairly spacious! There are three floors (my room was a 5-bed dorm style room on the third floor), and the main bathroom is on the third floor too. It had two very clean shower stalls with plenty of toiletries for showers, and 3 bathroom stalls. The whole vibe of the bathroom was old Victorian rustic - very cute. The 5 bed room was shockingly comfy too - there were at least 3 other people in my room (clearly all hikers as well, very friendly), and I was bottom bunk. The beds themselves were super comfy, the pillows seemed like memory foam or something similar, and each bed had a fan and wall outlets. There was enough space under the bunks and on the little desk that the room didn't feel overcrowded with luggage either. And there was a small movie theater area in the basement, kitchen behind the lobby desk that is for everyone to use, and some little tables and chairs around including on the second floor which is where I ate dinner. Ngl, I actually appreciated that there were 3 others in my room and clearly several other people also staying in the Avon because it has a "haunted" feel to it, but having so many other happy/friendly hikers and travelers around just makes it feel cozy and safe. Overall: this place is in silverton, a super cute little Colorado town near tons of awesome hikes and gorgeous million dollar freeway! It is cozy, clean, and has plenty of resources. I didn't feel crowded at all.

There was a fully stocked kitchen (although the pan assortment is a little goofy). Lucky is incredibly welcoming and a solid dude. During the summer, it seems like a hot spot for many thru-hikers. I would absolutely recommend this hostel to anyone.

The hostel is clean, and the others staying (mostly hikers) have been awesome to share a living space with. For those who prefer it, there are no private rooms just bunks, but that's not a problem for us. There's also no onsite laundry but there's a laundromat down the road and an RV park that's closer that advertises laundry even closer. There are multiple showers, two bathrooms- all of them being super clean. Wifi is available here as well. Plenty of places for grub and to look around while staying. The Country Market around the corner has anything you'd need. Lake City is a pretty charming little mining town and the Raven's Rest Hostel is an awesome place to stay on a budget. I'd definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone coming through!

But it's a hostel located inside a mexican restaurant, and let me tell you, you will crave some chips and salsa. Everything smells like mexican food, which I love, but not in my bedroom. Bathrooms are shared with the restaurant... I don't know who would find it more odd, the tourist showering in the restaurant bathroom, or the restaurant guest? We showered after 9pm to avoid that, but it's something to keep in mind. +++Nice outdoor seating area, picnic table on the patio can be used by guests, but no ice and overall very dirty. I took the comforter off the bed immediately, and there are cob webs and dust everywhere. For a little over $65 a night for a two bedroom (bunk bed style beds) it was ok, but definitely not great. I won't be back here, but if you are looking for a cheap place and aren't too picky this place will be fine for you!

The restaurant is large and very attractive, but I found the food pretty lackluster. Not very spicy. There was more of a black pepper flavor in my enchiladas than chile pepper. My mother (65+) had the best of intentions to book a stay here for our family including my 90 year old grandmother. She booked it a month in advance and was asked to pay ~$300 in advance for a "suite," and room for all of us. As a word of caution, it is never ok for a hotel to ask for all the money up front. A deposit is normal but not the entire amount. After driving for hours we arrived. Upon arrival, the entrance was not clearly marked. Upon searching, there was a gate with a cell number to call to check in. I called this number and a man shows up in beatup truck with a dog in tow. He immediately told us that he had given part of our room reservations away. There was never a phone call to let us know about this change. He also told us that there were two beds in one room without a bathroom on the bottom floor but we could use the shared bathroom upstairs with 3 other rooms. (I believe that this is a hostel situation?) When we expressed concern about my grandmother's mobility, he offered us a bucket to use. When he showed us the room, the stench of urine punched us in the face. I am not sure other guests elected for the "bucket offer." Additionally, the mattresses appeared to be in accordion arrangement with dirty linens. As tension built, one of the people in our party requested restitution for the inconvenience of getting there and our room being double booked. When this was requested, the owner told us that we needed to leave. According to many reviews we have read in retrospect, this is a common pattern from the owner of this hotel. In the midst of this chaos I took my grandmother across the street to get a soda and food. We learned more about this business from the owner of the restaurant. We learned that he has been in conflict with other business owners in this town. Avoid this place at all costs as nothing good can come from doing business with this hotel.
