We were looking for a quick bite restaurant while running errands in Whitby and decided to try out Mancini ased on Yelp reviews. It is a small joint with maybe 10 -12 tables (some booths) being run by two very lovely ladies who were really helpful. We opted for a medium Canadian walk in special, spaghetti and meatballs with a side of garden salad. You need to order at the front and sit down and they call you when the food is ready. I did not try the pizza but my daughter really enjoyed their Canadian. My spaghetti and meatballs came with excellent meatballs but it was a little too saucy for my liking. We only got to sample a bit of the salad but the roasted red pepper that come with the salad was a nice and sweet and you could tell it was roasted in house, not the sour stuff that come out of a jar. Our overall experience was pretty good but I think at this price point, I expected a little more like real plates and cutlery maybe? I didn't love eating my pasta with disposable wooden fork that came pre-packaged with a wooden knife, napkin and a salt and pepper packet which seemed more wasteful than anything. I would come back to try out their sandwiches next time and skip the pasta. read more

Mancini's is a beloved pizza restaurant among locals in the heart of uptown Whitby. More than a few people have recommended their pizza and Veal sandwich to me. We excitedly tried here today. We ordered: Wings $7.29 * Six Wings * Sauce on Wings * Medium Sauce Medium Margherita Pizza $19.65 Veal Sandwich $11.99 The pizza had fresh basil leaves, fresh tomato & sauce. Mozzarella was not fresh mozzarella. The crust was not Naopolitan style, but tasty with a good texture. Not thick, not thin. This crust may go better with other toppings. The wings are reasonably priced, and not dry. The sauce was good. I had high expectations for their Veal Sandwich, as it is highly reputed. I liked the fluffy Kaiser bun - not flat, not soggy in spite of the saucy fillings. Yes, there were multiple layers of veal cutlets but they lacked veal taste. All I tasted was the deep-fried crust coated with tomato sauce. The size was big, and it is "filling" for sure. Although I was a bit disappointed, I think I had too high an expectation from the reputations. If I want something different from those famous chain pizza joints, this place is definitely to go! read more

FINALLY!!! Finally found an actual 'pizzeria' in Durham. We're talking great atmosphere, booths, great pizza, wings, hot sandwiches and more. Very friendly service, welcoming environment. The concept of an actual pizzeria is almost non-existent in Durham, so when I found this place I was shocked and excited! Pretty much tried everything... The pizza was pretty great, crispy crust and that nice greasy/oil taste in the sauce, oil running down your hands as you eat it... it... was... awesome! Of course, had to try a hot chicken parm sandwich, also very good, very big. Panzo and wings also good, both deep fried. They also sell their pasta sauce at the front if you're interested, which just added to the overall family-friendly feel of the place. Definitely going back for more, highly recommended if you just want a simple place to relax, have a seat and eat some great food. read more

I been twice, had the veal sandwich both times. The sandwich is pretty huge, The veal is thinner than the breading but this is common with veal sandwiches I've had from Sinatra's in Oshawa, California Sandwiches in Toronto and Musatchio's at the St Lawrence Market.... I liked the sauce, simple tomato with a hint of onion and garlic. Well balanced with just the right sweetness. I will agree with Christian L, I think it's a rip that Italian sandwich places charge for their extras. Cheese-$1, peppers and mushrooms-$0.90, onions-$0.50... They need to decide of they are a sandwich shop or a cafe. The pastry offerings are pretty dismal, the display cases were half full and didn't wow me. If they want to take a tip from a polished establishment, they should look at Lamanna's in Scarborough. At least Mancini's cook their sandwiches to order however.... The spot is a refurbished Coffee Time, they did a nice job on it. I'd stay to eat without hesitation. read more

Love the veal sandwiches best one had way better then California Sandwiches, so tender every time and they are huge with lots of meat inside. Only thing I don't like is when you order ahead and they are ready they just leave them on the counter in plastic bags, the sandwiches are double wrapped but they get cold quickly, they should have a heat thing to keep them warm until the customer arrives. read more

First time here as I was driving through town and a veal sandwich felt like a good idea. It was a tad pricey as it adds up with the extra charges for toppings. The red sauce was pretty pedestrian but the thinly sliced veal was well breaded and piled high on a large kaiser bun. All in all a decent experience. read more

Honestly this place is a bit pricey but omg worth every penny and some more! True gem in Durham! It's a true Italian restaurant quality pizza (have been all over Italy north to south and know what I'm talking about). I'm the person who never eats pizza crust but this place is a completely different story, it's a flavourful fresh high end bakery baked bread flavour that I devour every time even without any sauce. Generous on toppings and good quality toppings unlike most pizza places. Baked through without burned or soggy parts, no need to ask for well done or anything like that. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for quality. Ordered many times and will do again. Hoping this place stays in business forever. read more

I had heard of Mancini's, but this was the first time trying it. The demise of the awful Coffee Time was a very good thing (does Whitby really need yet another donut/coffee shop??) The facade is welcoming, and right away I saw Buy One, Get One Sandwich on Tuesday, so that was certainly a nice perk. It was pleasant enough inside in appearance, and the lack of baked items in the display cases didn't bother me since I wasn't planning on ordering any anyway. I have eaten many, many years ago from California's in Toronto, and that was the only barometer I had for restaurant veal sandwiches. I'm glad I came in on a Tuesday. I selected the Veal sandwich with hot {jalapeno) peppers and extra onions on the side. I got the other veal sandwich unassembled, with the bun, sauce and onions on the side so my children could eat theirs for dinner later. I was pleasantly surprised at how ENORMOUS the sandwiches were, and half easily filled me up. The breading was not overpowering, nice and crispy, and not greasy. I agree the sauce was more sweet than anything, and I would prefer to add spice to it at home if needed. Many times the sauce is far too salty, garlicky, spicy and overwhelms the sandwich -- this was just fine. The extra flavour from the onions and peppers was just right. I could tell the onions were sauteed (with some parsley I believe), in olive oil, and they were nice and soft and mild tasting. I would have preferred the red/yellow/orange banana peppers (like one sees at sub places), but the jalapenos were very finely chopped and not overly prominent on the sandwich -- just enough heat for me. The veal was super-thinly pounded and stacked, and tender and moist. I will have the other half for dinner. I am happy that they have onions and peppers as free additions. I would have liked cheese, but I didn't want to pay $1 for it, and I could have added my own from home if I really thought it lacked it (it didn't) For $12 and change, it was a good deal, especially since both sandwiches were big enough for more than one meal. Another nice perk I got was the free stamp card, where after 9 sandwiches, you get the 10th free of charge. read more

I was picking my wife up for lunch yesterday, & we decided to try this new place, Mancini's, that just opened in the old Coffee Time on Brock St, just north of the four corners. The interior has been tastefully redone & looks nothing like the dumpy old donut shop it used to be. We strolled up to the counter, checked out the menu on the wall & proceeded to order a couple of veal parm sandwiches. Their specialty is Italian sandwiches, but it was a bit off-putting to see that they charge you extra for what seemed like basic items on your sandwich. To me, a veal sandwich should come with cheese, but they charge $1 extra for the Provolone. It was even chintzier that they charge you extra for staples like onions, mushrooms & peppers. Not one charge for all three, but separate charges for each one of the three that you want added to your sandwich. Not a great first impression. The sandwiches were rather pricey, & after two veal sandwiches (with cheese & onions on mine & cheese & mushrooms on my wife's), & a bottle of pop that we split, our total came to $22.61. That seemed like a bit much for a couple of sandwiches & a pop. We waited a few minutes before they called our ticket number, & I went up to get our food. The sandwiches are MASSIVE, & despite my initial thoughts that a sandwich would not be enough to fill me up, I was happy to be proved wrong. The sandwiches are piled high with breaded veal that's draped over a large kaiser bun, covered in marinara sauce & (if you pay extra,) melted cheese & sauteed vegetables. The sandwiches are big & messy, & despite initially refusing the knife & fork offered to me when I picked up our food, I had to admit defeat & slink back to the counter & ask for utensils. I've never had to use a knife & fork to eat a sandwich before, but there's a first time for everything, right? The sandwich was good, although unremarkable. The sauce was a bit bland, lacking the expected zestiness of an authentic Italian red sauce. The veal was plentiful, but again, the breading could've used some more seasoning & flavour to set it apart. Even the sharp bite of the Provolone seemed unusually absent. Overall, it wasn't a bad sandwich, but it's definitely not something that I'd be lining up for, either. At more than $20 for two sandwiches & a pop, it wasn't exactly what I'd call a great value for your money. Although the woman behind the counter who seemed to be in charge said that they would be having their grand opening next week, & if you bought a sandwich & a drink, the second sandwich would be half price, so that would make it a better value. All in all, Mancini's was a nice little place to eat, but the food was pricey & mediocre. I might go back another time, but if the next experience doesn't improve, that would definitely be the last time. read more

We enjoy and know veal sandwiches, so I was nervous about trying Mancini's as we are fussy about Italian Sandwiches. What a wonderful surprise and a delight when we brought home 2 Veal sandwiches with all the toppings. These were by far the best in the GTA that we have tried. So huge that we could of shared one! The decor looked amazing and comfortable enough, that we will go back and eat in and try the Eggplant Parm and the Chicken Parm. I discovered Mancini's about a month ago when I went there for a quick bite. I liked it, so when I had 6 family members over for lunch I decided to reserve a spot there. The food was fabulous, everyone loved their lunch... (soup got rave reviews....and yes, it is homemade). The service was perfect....to too "hovering" and always there when one needed it. This was my second attempt at this Eatery. I got a grilled Panini, the Chicken Chipotle...with tomato, lettuce and onions. Got the order sandwich was huge...one slice of tomato..half on one side of sandwich and half on the other side. Panini was grilled with the lettuce INSIDE the sandwich..no onions. Have you ever tried eating heated up lettuce??? Not nice. I got a side of fries..had tried the "crispy fries" before they were awful. So, this time I went for the "fresh cut fries" they were just as awful...maybe fresh cut but certainly not fresh cooked...they were over cooked and soggy. As I waited for my take-out order I watched as other diners received their veal sandwiches...which were served with no presenation...on a kaiser bun couple of layers of veal with some sauce peeking through...looked like the cook just threw it on the plate...no coleslaw, nothing else on the plate. Additions to the sandwiches are priced individually...$1 for onions, or mushrooms etc. The food here is awful. They need to rethink hiring this cook. The negative reviews at nuts, or at least outdated. The veal sandwiches are on par with the best in the GTA, and there are none bigger. The prices are low given the size when compared to others in the GTA and if you want spicy get the hot peppers. read more

My friend & I just came back from eating at Mancini's in Whitby. She had the veal and I had the eggplant sandwich. I'm not vegetarian but I do love eggplant. Okay the price for each of us with a pop was around $11 but portions were really generous - almost more than we could eat! Both sandwiches were really good & 2 girls on front desk very nice even telling us to pick a table & they would bring the food over. They did come over & chat a little with us when they picked our plates up. For 1 p.m. on a Wednesday, the place was very busy. We both had added a couple of additions (provolone, sweet peppers) at extra cost but we think it was worth it. Sauteed onions & hot peppers are free. We will definitely go back to eat there. read more
