Came here last month to meet with a friend who I have known for almost 20 years. We moved to Oshawa a couple of years ago and haven't really explored around. I picked this place based on what saw on the menu Atmosphere: B In general, a standard sports bar and pub. Apparently there was an entire hockey team that had a celebration, so people were saying it was a longer lineup than usual. I like the giant TV in the middle of the main bar area. Noise level was ok for a sports bar to be. The area where we sat was a bit on the darker side, but still bright enough light to enjoy our meal Service: A+ We didn't wait to long for our table, maybe 20 minutes. After a few minutes of browsing, we were greeted by our server. I feel really crappy for saying this, but I forgot her name. About midway in our meal, I asked her how often do people say that she looks like Elizabeth Olsen? And she said at least once a day. When I informed our server about what I wanted to order, she was very honest and said that based on feedback, the dish did not receive great feedback. I did get reassurance though that if I was not satisfied with my order, then she would take the proper steps needed to enjoy my meal. I initially ordered my meal with onion rings, but it did come with fries. I did inform our service and after reconfirming the order, she did bring an extra side of onion rings as was my order. The error was acknowledged and addressed properly. Overall, she was very informative and was always keeping us up to date with the progress of our meal, although it did feel like to took a bit longer than I feel it should have. Food: A When I was looking for places, I browsed various venues. The dish that caught my eye for this place was the soft shell crab burger. The pic on the menu looked really impressive to me. There was a giant crab that could barely fit into the burger bun. That's what pushed me to try this place. When I received the burger, it was definitely not like in the picture. The arms and legs that were sticking out in the picture were not there, and it looked like a small shell was all that was included in the bread with some sauce. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't matching, I chose to ignore that view and still take a bite. In spite of not getting the appearance on the menu, I was very surprised by the taste. I could easily taste the crab shell with the chipotle sauce and it was delicious. I really did savor bite. Of course it could always be bigger, but the taste was so good I definitely was pleased with my choice. I provided my feedback to our server as well. My friend ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it looked pretty good. I was able to get a small bite, and although it was good, it wasn't anything that really stood out in my mind. Sides were definitely tasty. I liked the onion rings more than the fries. Didn't really feel like splurging on a beverage, kept it simple with a water Value: B In this time of rampant inflation, going out really is a luxury now. I have never been to this pub before, so I can't really compare it to previous visits to see if the serving size has changed. In general, I think that it's not uncommon to go to a sit down service and spend upwards of 30-40$ per person. My total bill came just under 20$ with tax and tip. It did help a bit with the extra side, but for the overall taste of my burger, I felt it was a fair price. As previously mentioned, of the burger was a bit bigger, that would have been better Overall: A- This establishment provided an excellent experience for a first visit. We went during prime time for eating out on a Friday evening, so its not really surprised for waiting for seating. Our server was excellent, my food was delicious and the service was too notch. You owe your waitress $6 I took the family here tonight for dinner. The wife's meal was the only thing that was passable. My daughter's meal was microwaved and even my teenage son didn't want to finish his chicken fingers because they were so overcooked. But I think I got the worst of it. Chicken wings shouldn't crunch like breadsticks when you bite into them. Think about making your food to order instead of cooking it ahead of time and then microwaving the sh_t out of it. My fiancé and I ordered from this location through skipthedishes. Our food came quickly and still hot, even with the rather large order we had. He very much enjoyed the French onion soup it had a great aroma of flavours and also a good consistency. He also had positive things to say about their Bison burger, the friend jalapeños gave a nice complementary kick to the flavour of the burger. I myself had the spicy chicken & shrimp pad Thai and was a little overwhelmed by the portion size, but obviously that's never a bad thing since I could enjoy it for more than one meal. I ordered the grilled vegetables and warm goat cheese salad and added a strip loin. Most of the veggies were grilled but pretty raw especially the asparagus and green peppers. When I ordered, I was never asked how I'd like my strip loin cooked so I expected medium rare but it was very over done and really chewy which was very disappointing. Long time resident in the area and had been going to this restaurant for every take out meal for my family and friends. Had... The last 8 months or orders have been garbage. Overcooked. Undervalue Overpriced Cold Deep Fried Refried and on take out the restaurant misses parts of my order big or small. With the additional pricing less portion size, like my halibut order today being so over fried it I took the battered fishless brick, hit it on the kitchen counter. You do not see the fish. Who wants to eat a brick of over fried cold batter. Who can? No longer will I support this restaurant or recommend it. 8 months to correct issues and I have had to complain or call in or drive back to pick up missing items to the owner, there is no change now but a bad one and I'd dare to believe going forward with vocalizing these issues there will be a change for the better. Made a reservation for a small get together (11 people). And I can tell we did not regret it. The waitress was awesome!!!!! The food was timely and hot and absolutely delicious. My wife and I love this place. She does not like to go anywhere else for chicken wings. Every time we try the wings at a different place we both say. "They aren't bad but no where near as good as Ronicks." Prices are fair. Portions are good. I never leave there hungry. Service is good. My son loves their bacon cheeseburger poutine. Burgers are great there also. Highly recommended. They also do take out if you prefer. This place blows away the nearby St. Louis Bar & Grill (awful), Bollocks, Shoeless Joe's and Brooklin Pub that have similar menus. read more

I have come to Charley Ronick's a few times as I frequent the area and have always been happy with the food I receive. I usually order the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and am always left full and satisfied with my order as the portions are large and generous. Considering the price of the meal ($10) the quality of the meal is very real and great and can give McDonald's a run for their money! I haven't tried anything else on the menu because I typically don't like to try new things, but if someone here does, I am sure the food will be great (or decent at best). The staff is also pretty friendly and the ambiance does leave you desiring more as it does get loud during peak times. As a plus, each booth has its own TV screen so you could watch a game during your meal. All in all, I would recommend this place if you do want to try a new bar in the Durham region. read more

The food is better as compared to other local restaurants but the service is terrible. I placed an order through Uber Eats this afternoon for pick up. After being notified that my order was ready for pick up, I walked into the restaurant and waited at the font. After several minutes of being unattended to, I walked over to the bar (only staff I saw present) and continued to wait for the staff at the bar to give me her attention. When I realized she wouldn't notice unless I got her attention, I politely said "excuse me, sorry to bother you...". To which she said I need to go back and wait in the front. She then picks up my food from the back and brings it to me. She tells me I need to wait in front while pointing to the sign. I told her I did wait and it is only after waiting for several minutes that I approached the bar, waited again and then only interrupted her to get her attention. She denies it and says I was waiting for only 2 minutes. To which I replied how would she know that if her back was turned towards me the whole time. We exchanged in a back and forth where I asked for her name (to which she chuckled initially before telling it's Kate) asked for her manager's name and phone number (to which she denied providing me the information) and then takes back my food after saying "I guess you're not in a rush". She also tells me the manager is present. To which I said I would like to speak to him. The manager comes to speak to me. I explain to him what happened. He apologizes but while I'm speaking to the manager, Kate is walking back and forth, interrupts and involves herself in our conversation unnecessarily and denies what I'm saying. I told her the conversation is between the manager and I and asked the manager twice "is this how you train your staff?". The manager apologized, I provided my order number, collected my food and left. The wrongdoing and arrogance of this employee, not to mention the lack of respect for customers and her own management is all telling. This is my second experience of having ordered from your restaurant and not being responded to timely when picking up my food. I let it go the first time but after this terrible experience, I hope this post coveys the experience to expect when attending this restaurant. read more

I wasted my money ordering Santa Fe Fillet meal from this place. I got a fatty slab of meat, when I called them to complain they told me since I ordered from UBEREATS they could not do anything. This is sad as this was one our favorite place to eat. My advise to anyone do not order any Steak dish from them, the only product that is safe is the chicken wings which is $12 vs $26+ for a lousy disgusting steak. I've been to Charley ronicks often. Tonight we opted to order take out. I was very disappointed in the quality of our meals ordered. The chicken quesadillas were black on the outside, and the chicken wrap was soggy. I feel these would have never been served if I had ordered them in the restaurant. I called to speak with someone about these disappointing dinners. I was told the only thing they could do for me was replace the meals that night. Well that didn't work for us as it was already late and we have a newborn so we ate dinner leftovers from the night before. I ordered the rib and wing combo.. the ribs were so dry I and hard they almost needed to be chiseled off the bone, To top it off they didn't even pack the Wings in the meal. Great spot to go to watch the game! They have tv's in every booth as well as a big screen and TV's everywhere so you never miss a second. The food is GREAT they just updated the menu. It is your basic pub atmosphere. The regulars at the bar every week, maybe day for all I know. Staff is attentive if they are not busy. The food is nothing to rave about, but it doesn't disappoint either. Lots of TV's and they are not all on the same channel which is a good thing. They are usually on a sports or new station.
