I am very confused about the source of those two one-star reviews. This was such a cool, positive experience for me. I called and got several questions answered, then cold visited just before their 3:30 closing time. Had a great conversation with Jeremy who gave me a few options. 4 days later I got a call that exactly what I wanted was not going to be possible with their current supply and was given several different options. A few hours later I got a text message that my order was ready, I picked it up, Jeremy answered a half-dozen questions for me about joining, sanding, staining, and sealing. He also gave me some information, generally, about their supply, drying processes, Etc. Don't expect this to be a cheap option for you! I paid $200 for three 7 x 40" boards. But now my bar has its own piece of Philadelphia history to tell. read more

These guys are great! I was trying to source beams and shelves for my kitchen from reclaimed wood. After having a ton of trouble working with another reclaimed woodshop​ in the city, Manayunk Timber came through in a pinch and completed the job quickly and for a competitive price. To add to that, everyone there is super friendly and they went out of their way to load up the incredibly heavy pieces for me. Most importantly, the pieces came out beautifully and will be a wonderful​ addition to our kitchen. Pictures to come. read more

This is a really cool place with a huge selection of lumber. The owner is an interesting person with a lot of knowledge and was helpful when I was looking for some salvaged wood for a sliding barn door project. Prices are definitely higher than a big box store but you're paying for salvaged wood with history/character and all the costs that come with it, ie transportation and storage. read more

They have a wonderful selection of unique wood grains. Even something that sounds boring like pine looks great when you can get the character of reclaimed. They also have a good selection of woods milled from trees. We had a pair of custom mirrors made that look fantastic. Their web site is a bit sparse. It's best to go and see and select the wood yourself. Don't bother going to the front door (it was locked when we visited). Walk around the back. That's where you'll find the artists/wood worker. read more

Steve was very helpful and we are very happy with the price on the pieces we picked for our project. There was a huge variety of woods to pick from and our project requires 90" boards and they had them!! They offered to rough cut for us (huge help). I honestly don't understand the salty reviews Steve was great to deal with. Might be the customers? Not sure where the negativity comes from. read more

Manayunk Timber has a wide selection of reclaimed pine. I bought 6 1" yellow pine boards to make a dining room table. The owner, Stephen, always spent loads of time answering my questions and helping me select my wood. I'm new to woodworking and he was patient with me and the customers I saw him interact with. I gave him a general idea of what I was looking to build and he gave great design and wood ideas. The table came out great and our friends love the wood we selected. I'd highly recommend! read more

I called in search of reclaimed lumber for a kitchen project I was doing. I needed about 200 sq ft for a floor. It took a couple of calls to reach somebody. Once I did the guy was so rude. I asked him a few questions (typical questions that I posed to every reclaimed wood vendor I had spoken with regarding type of wood, costs, minimums) and then he told me in not so many words to go f-myself and hung up on me. I have never had such a rude interaction with a business owner in my life. His lumber was extremely overpriced compared to others around town and he clearly needs somebody else answering the phones. He should stick with communing with inanimate objects. read more

I don't know what everyone is complaining about, I love this place. I've dealt with the owner a few times and he is super friendly. He even gave me some slabs of live edge black walnut for free after I bought a slightly larger piece a while back. His prices for live edge are MUCH cheaper than other slab wood sources in the area (I buy from them all), though he admittedly has a limited selection of live edge as that's not the heart of his business. I brought my friend in to get some reclaimed wood boards for a custom counter top she wanted to make and, again, a great interaction. You can negotiate with him. He's a one-man show doing some good stuff with old philly wood, so just call and let him know when you'll be there if you want to ensure you'll find him. read more

What a great find -- exactly what I needed (which was just a small thing - a distinctive piece of wood to make a long shelf that would be the focal point of a dining room), with a delightful and helpful proprietor and an unbelievably low price. He cut the piece that we found down to the right size and shape, and was just charming. I went in person, as the Yelp reviews made it sound as though telephoning to discuss hypotheticals was not the way to go, and -- it was the best. Now I want to think of more wood projects just so I can go explore all that Steve has in his treasure trove some more! read more

Yeah, I'm with the others, pretty good place for reclaimed and milled wood. You have to realize its a small operation, and time is money, so don't come in wanting to know what each piece costs. Have a general idea of the dimensions of what you need and what you need it for, and they'll help you out. read more

If you enjoy rude proprietors and if you don't mind being charged 50 percent OVER market value for pine, this is the place for you. As the other reviews state, the service was horrendous- foul language included. The owner was one of the rudest, most crass people I have ever encountered. As a repeat customer, I've had the most positive experiences with Manayunk Timber. I was referred to MT by a friend when I was more of a novice woodworker, who managed to land a pretty big job. I had endless questions about the process, and Steve was super helpful in going through a few options for me, and went out of his way to discuss my finishing options, my overall vision, and other details to make sure I got what I needed. I've constantly been impressed with his ability to recall the history behind the wood he offers; where it came from and what it's previous life might've been. This adds a story to the product, something everyone enjoys learning about. If you know exactly what you want, with cookie cutter instructions, big-box customer service and a generally cheapened finished product, go to Ikea or maybe Home Depot. We were looking for wood for a mantle in our living room. I called Steve to find out if he had wood in the size we needed. He was perfectly polite on the phone. I called back a few days to ask about his hours on Saturday. Again he was polite and he told me he would be there until 2:30pm on Saturday. We showed up and it looked like no one was there. His shop is around back and doesn't have any windows, so if you go, call his cell phone listed on his website. He was there, opened the door for us, walked us around. We found a great piece of wood with an interesting history. Steve cut it to the size we needed and helped us load it in our van. We wrote a check for what we thought was a fair price, and we were on our way. Very pleasant experience and we got a beautiful piece of Douglas fir. read more

Something must really be wrong with the folks who gave Manayunk Timber poor reviews previously. This place could not be more interesting and accommodating. Steve knows his wood and listens to what you want - all while offering his own brand of comic relief. We have now visited his shop twice and each time came away with exactly what we wanted - which in our case was/is accent pieces of wood for our kitchen. Like some of the more positive reviewers have said, we're looking forward to dreaming up another project just so we can visit this shop and Steve again! read more

Steve was able to turn my naive notion of turning a cherry tree in my backyard into a beautiful staircase in my house from a pipe dream to a distinct possibility.
