Our kitchen renovation began in December 2024 and was completed in May 2025. I intentionally waited…read moremore than a year after completion before posting a review because new issues continued to surface long after the project was considered finished.
If you're considering Holod's for a major renovation, it's important to understand the potential time, financial, and emotional commitment involved. We hired them for a full gut renovation. We were initially told the project would take 6-8 weeks and realistically planned for up to three months. Instead, it took nearly 6 months, and more than a year later we are still addressing issues that originated from the renovation.
The project also exceeded budget by tens of thousands of dollars. Some of that was due to upgrades we voluntarily chose, but other costs should have been anticipated. For example, midway through the project we were informed that our entire electrical panel needed replacement, something that should have been identified during planning. There were also repeated cabinet-ordering issues. Whether the errors originated with Holod's or the cabinet manufacturer, the wrong cabinets arrived four separate times, causing significant delays.
Communication and scheduling became increasingly difficult throughout the project. We rarely knew when crews would arrive until the last minute, and as the project progressed it became clear their attention was divided among other jobs. Midway through the renovation, we lost our original project manager, Stacia, who had been responsive, organized, and instrumental in helping us achieve our vision. Her replacement was far less responsive and eventually directed us to coordinate directly with the lead contractor.
Even after completion, numerous workmanship issues required follow-up visits. Cabinet doors were crooked, causing paint to wear prematurely. Caulking around the sink began failing within a few months. A scratched tile had to be repaired, and the contractors were unable to configure the smart under-cabinet lighting they installed, leaving me to research and configure the system myself after the manuals had been discarded.
One of the most disappointing aspects involved an appliance garage door. We specifically wanted a lift-up door that would stay out of the way, allowing appliances to slide in and out easily. After multiple attempts and design changes, we were ultimately told it couldn't be done and had to settle for a side-opening door. While functional, it was not what we had been promised.
Within eight months of completion, the cabinet finish began deteriorating significantly. Paint rubbed off edges and surfaces that received little or no contact. When I raised the issue, Holod's connected me with the cabinet manufacturer. After reviewing photos and documentation, the manufacturer declined responsibility, and no solution or remediation was offered.
About 14 months after completion, a plumber discovered that a garbage disposal installed during the renovation had not been properly secured and had detached from the sink. He also identified the same issue developing on the second sink.
To be fair, the demolition crew was excellent. They were careful, professional, preserved items we requested, and left the work area clean. Unfortunately, the rest of the project did not reflect that same level of care. Dust control was poor throughout construction, resulting in significant dust accumulation throughout the house and yard.
We were also promised professional cleaning at the end of the project, but that never occurred. Instead, contractors returned for a basic wipe-down that left dust residue throughout the new kitchen. Even today, dust remains embedded in some cabinet panels despite repeated cleaning efforts.
There are many aspects of our kitchen that we genuinely love, and the finished design reflects many of the choices we were excited to make. However, prospective customers should understand the significant delays, cost overruns, communication challenges, quality issues, and post-project problems we experienced before deciding whether Holod's is the right fit for their renovation.
