We recently brought two antique lamps into this store, survivors of Superstorm Sandy (we lost our house but managed to save some things, the lamps among them) and finally rebuilt so we were ready to get them fixed. The estimate to rewire each lamp would be $80 - $100 . Naturally, the price turned out to be the higher estimate. I guess we were expecting too much, but thought they might just shine up the brass on the top, but no such luck. When we brought the lamps to a shop in NYC (our winter home) to purchase shades, the man said the stem on one lamp was so crooked that we could not even make a decision on shades until it was fixed. He took the lamp apart and fixed it for a small fee and we settled on lovely shades. What disturbs me is that the folks at Manasquan couldn't have bothered to do this small repair (or even notice the need for it); their prices were far higher than in Manhattan (the shade store also, we discovered, repairs lamps and told us their prices); and the selection of shades in Manasquan was so unimpressive. As a longtime Jersey Shore resident, I like to shop local, but this was a real wake-up call. read more
