The answer was Yes, one can change into swimsuits during lunch before the black sand beach visit and then change out of them at a stop after the waterfall stop to be dry for the ride back to the hotels. A few days before our tour I received an email confirmation that included other useful information, such as bring along swimwear, towels, water shoes and a light jacket for the air conditioned van. I had not considered the A/C and I'm always cold, so that is a very welcome heads-up. On the day of our tour we received texts that the driver was on his way. Pretty close to the scheduled meeting time the van pulled up to our resort. The van was spacious with huge windows. Our tour was full with all 12 passenger seats occupied. Our driver/guide was Travis. He was born and raised in Hana and was a wealth of knowledge about Hana, Maui, and Hawaii. He seemed to be related to all the locals he passed on the road. There was not dull moment. Among the stops along the way were Maui Tropical Plantation for breakfast, Auntie Sandy's Banana Bread stand for those that wished to purchase, Wai'anapanapa State Park (black sand beach, also with a lava tube and a blow hole), Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park (usually calm enough to swim but the falls were roaring due to rain earlier in the day), and Ho'okipa Beach with turtles on the beach. Travis was an excellent driver and guide. We got great value from the cost of the excursion. One minor thing did bother us. We are Jewish and were uncomfortable during the praising Jesus sing-along. Regardless, we recommend this tour and especially Travis as a guide.

I would highly recommend this tour company and the sunrise tour. Breakfast food at the end was good too! There were three options but I only got a picture of 2. The 3rd was a fruit plate with yogurt.

He made sure the trip was relaxing and tailored the day to our needs (lots of naps and beach time). He was also an incredibly safe driver and would pull over to allow faster vehicles to pass instead of rushing. I'm so glad that he was driving instead of me or my husband! Donovan also kept my husband entertained the entire ride with fun facts about the island. His knowledge about the history of Maui is vast! Would highly recommend this tour to any family looking for a more relaxing way to enjoy the Road to Hana!

If you choose the former, I promise you it will be beautiful... the kind of beauty you expect, the kind you take pictures of. But if you're LUCKY enough to experience the latter... you don't just see Maui... you feel it. And you take home something far more than photos... you take home moments that stay with you long after the sun sets. Levi came to Maui on vacation once... and never left. He sold his plane ticket and built a life here. After yesterday, I understand why... The Road to Hana isn't just a drive...it's an experience that unfolds one breathtaking moment at a time. Waterfalls you don't just look at... you swim thru them and showe under them. Climb them. Jump from them like you're 20 years old again and fearless. Hidden caves that feel like you've stepped into another world... volcanic black sand beaches that don't even look real... lush, untamed beauty around every single turn. And then... the moments you never could have planned. Pulling over for warm banana bread from a roadside stand. Homemade chocolates that feel like a secret only locals know ... so good I actually proposed to the man making them! Exotic fruits picked right there, handed to you with a "try this." And even shampoo picked from the trees Levi style...bc apparently that's just a normal Friday in Levi's world. lunch... an unforgettable, messy, perfect picnic style kind of lunch of smoked pork ribs and corn on the cob, eaten like you have nowhere else to be and all the time in the world. Shared with maybe the best part...the stories. The kind that make you laugh, pause, and realize you're sitting with someone who chose a different kind of life and never looked back. And sharing it all with my best friend of 40 years...the kind of friendship that just gets it without needing to say a word...clearly a bucket list score!! We ended the day above the clouds, watching the sun melt into the sky at Haleakalā completely in awe. Somewhere between the waterfalls, the laughter, and the stories... something shifted. We stopped thinking. We stopped planning. We just were...And now I get it. Why someone would come here for a trip...sell their plane ticket...and leave it all behind... Because life, lived like this...present, wild, unhurried... feels exactly the way it's supposed to be. Aloha Levi and mahalo ... we are leaving you with much gratitude for making us feel like Ohana! He's incredibly knowledgeable about Maui, from the island's history to the rainforest, wildlife, plants, trees, and fruits we saw along the way. We were constantly learning as we drove, which made the experience feel rich and meaningful rather than just a scenic drive. The Road to Hana can be intimidating, but Genaro made it feel effortless. His driving was calm, smooth, and confident, and we felt completely safe the entire time getting there and back. He knew exactly where to stop, paced the day perfectly, and took us to some truly stunning spots. It rained most of the day for us, which is just part of being in the rainforest, but it didn't take away from the experience at all. Genaro kept the energy positive, fun, and engaging throughout the long day. He's very personable and genuinely enjoyable to spend time with. One thing I really appreciated was that he kept saying, "this is your tour." He made sure we stopped at places that mattered to us. I really wanted to go to Aunt Sandy's for banana bread, and Genaro made it happen. That level of flexibility and care made the day feel personal. Between the incredible views, the education along the way, the safe and comfortable drive, and Genaro's personality, this was one of the highlights of my time in Maui. I would highly recommend doing the Road to Hana with Temptation Tours, and if you can, ask for Genaro Padilla. It was a very special experience.

I worked hard along side the ohana and will treasure this experience of living in the loi for the rest of my life. Out in Kipahulu I often felt orphaned slaving another man's harsh and exacting plan. In October 15, 2006, I was cut off by two landslides caused by a Big Island Earth Quake. http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4pLn1yOpJA - Marooned, I transformed myself when I snatched victory out of the jaws of certain defeat. I was not going to leave just cause I was kicked out. I dug in my heals and developed my won't power. I won't leave this amazing place even though I quit my one fancy peanut weeding job and got fired from my other fancy peanut job losing my home too. Bummer. I walked across the road and hitched up at the Living Farm and with that first courageous step, I over came my fear under the gentle training of Uncle John and Auntie Tweety Lynn on old Hawaii taro culture. Local conditions are not as bad as these fancy farmers try to make them out to be. I'm not saying its not dangerous or even environmentally hostile. Flash floods, Earth Quakes. Basically, if you hear it calling you, don't say anything at all just listen. The birds tell Uncle John if you are cool or not. If you go up to the farm and the birds are no singing then something is off. And, it could be your attitude, or energy. If the birds are going off. The everything in the upper rain forest is cool. Truth be told, there is a hunger out here. One day that spirit may come calling? Nothing but love for the Kipahulu 'Ohana. They took me in when the fancy permaculture farm booted me rendering me homeless in one of the harshes jungles on the planet. This is the real permaculture. If there is one thing you do on Maui that will have the most transformative effect on you will be to humble yourself and work along aside the Kanaka Maoli in the loi. They are the real Ancient Hawaiian Delta Force. Fierce, proud, and you want these guys on yourside. The best way to accomplish that is work along side them in the Taro Patch. This is the real lost world. It will blow you away. Donate and support them. They are for real. I worked with them during my epic journey to Kipahulu September 21 2005- December 21 2007. http:/www.kipahulu.org http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_Hawaiian
