It was pretty quiet during lunch, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the salad and it was massive -- easily big enough for two people. The only downside was the beer selection. They were out of quite a few options. Luckily they still had the one I wanted, but another customer gave up the search and settled for a soda. Food and service were excellent overall. Just don't come expecting a fully stocked beer list.

Popped in after a Yosemite-in-a-day mission for dinner, and it was strange. The shopping center felt like it was some strange faux Disneyland town. Very little things were open, and there's also a hotel? This restaurant and the pizza place seemed to be the most bustling. The restaurant has an enormous door that was easy to open from the outside, a little more difficult to open from the inside. Anyway, enough about the ambiance. We had bikes with us, so they accommodated us outside. Menu was pretty basic: appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pastas, and drinks. Everything looked and sounded delicious to our famished crew, but I think they're banking on starvation. All the food was just okay, mediocre. Nothing was bad, but nothing was amazing either. I got the brisket salad. Brisket ($18) was kinda cold and gummy. The cornbread ($6) was a little tasteless. The honey citrus butter with the cornbread had so much potential but was also a little flavorless. A friend ordered pickle chips and that was probably the tastiest thing we had. Our server rang us all up individually which was great for a group. After tax and tip, it was $30, which hurt for such an unsatisfying meal.

Stockton's food scene has taken a hit over the years. We used to be one of the few Valley cities with real-deal multicultural spots, quality ingredients, fair prices, and kitchens that actually cared. Lately, too many places feel like Chuck E. Cheese: loud, generic, and just going through the motions while delivering old microwave tasting entrees at premium prices. Then there's Smoke & Meat BBQ on Yosemite Ave. Yosemite's got that sneaky Haight Street feel, a little gritty, but lined with pockets of greatness and this spot fits right in. Feels like it used to be an old deli or butcher shop, and thankfully they kept that classic Stockton character intact. Service is exactly how it should be. No forced smiles or over-the-top scripts, just a straight-up "what can I get you?" Efficient, genuine, done. The food is the real story: consistent, high-quality, and fairly priced. The meats are smoked with precision, more single malt Scotch than bourbon taste. Nothing sloppy, nothing rushed. Meats include Brisket, ribs, turkey, pulled pork, shrimp, sausages...Sides hold their own, desserts don't feel like an afterthought, and the drink selection is deeper than you'd expect (yes, Cactus Cooler is in the rotation) Three options for sauce (tangy, sweet, hot) Sliced of Genova bread and pickled onions Even the crowd feels curated in the best way. Not the usual DMV or Costco chaos, And the music? Tasteful. You might catch Shuggie Otis or Cymande playing at just the right volume. Smoke & Meat BBQ is what happens when a place actually respects the food, the space, and the people walking through the door. Don't sleep

I thought the crispiness of the chicken was absolutely perfect; however, I did think the chicken meat itself lacked a lot of flavor. I thought the fries were cooked to perfection and tasted great with the spice blend that I believe the owner created himself. Some things that would have made it a lot of better was if they had added some lettuce or onions to the burger as it was literally just a piece of fried chicken sandwiched in between 2 buns for $12. The loaded fries could have used some more toppings like onions, some bacon bits, jalapenos, cilantro, and maybe drizzled with a homemade creamy or spicy sauce. These additions would not only take their food to the next level but just give the food that extra pop of color to make it more appealing! The store was hard to find and was located on a one way street in downtown Stockton. There is not a clear sign outside on the building besides a stand up sign outside. From the outside, it may look closed. Tip: I parked about a block away and decided to walk. They are at the end of a chain of stores located right next to a parking lot! It was also empty when I visited and there was a lot of seating. The service was great as they took my order and had my food ready within 10 minutes. Although I understand it is located in downtown which can get more dangerous at nighttime, I wish they had the option to do delivery or be open later as this would made a perfect a quick dinner or a late night snack delivery. I hope to be back to try some of their desserts.

CAN WE ALL SAY CECES OBSESSION IS THIS PLACE!??…read more The family recently purchased a home on the river and we have been looking around at all the bbq spots. This is by far our favorite. I love coming from the river to grab their El Dorado. It's the perfect amount for 4/5 people. We always have leftovers. The cornbread is just delightful. The service is spectacular. EVERY.SINGLE. Time. We treat everyone that visits to our home cooking and then this bbq spot. It's that good. My girlfriend legit did not want to eat yesterday because they were closed. As soon as I woke up the keys and card were on the dresser ready to go. I called ahead but they don't start until you get here. Wait time is like 7- 10 minutes. You won't be unsatisfied. This place is truly family friendly. Everyone has space and napkins and multiple sauces. Come check them out. Tell them Cece sent you.

I wouldn't recommend the Mac and cheese. The cheese had a gritty consistency to it. The beans were great and so was the cornbread. Absolutely nothing wrong with that... it just wasn't what I was looking for. We did buy some frozen steaks. I honestly felt like a kid in a candy store, except it was all about getting meats to cook at home. When I walked in, I grabbed a basket and within a few minutes it wad full. I grabbed burger patties, jalapeño sausage patties, 3 sirloin steaks, Alfredo sauce, ravioli, chicken fried steaks, chicken medallions, deli meats, beef jerky, beef sticks, and even liver treats for my dogs. What's great about this place is the prices. Most of the items I grabbed were all $12 or less, mostly in the $6-8 range. Normally I get Tri tips here but wasnt planning on cooking them anytime soon, but even those are reasonably priced at under $40 (depending on size). I walked out of there spending only $92, which is a steal nowadays. Definitely recommend if you are coming up this way, stop at Swingle's for high quality and affordable meats.
