No trip to Gold Country is complete without a stop at Swingle Meat! As mentioned in my previous review, groceries, especially meat prices are super high in the Bay Area, so whenever I have a chance to get some good deals on meat, I'm going to make every trip here worth it. On this trip I picked up some frozen ribeyes, sirloins, burgers, breakfast sausage patties, cheddar jalapeno sausages, and some chile verde and ranch house chicken. The chicken items I got come vacuum sealed, which is perfect when I plan to sous vide them. The things I wish I got more of was their honey pepper beef sticks and hot teriyaki beef jerky. It's very affordable and perfect for snacks. Another low key thing that we like are their frozen chicken wellingtons. super easy to bake at home and it's a tasty meal. I arrived in the morning and luckily it wasn't super busy. Grabbed a basket and before I knew it I had enough meats and snacks to feed a large family when in reality, it's just for a couple of us. $153 well spent and meals for days. The prices for the tri-tips have more than doubled since 2020, but honestly, still a great deal considering the size. $35-40 for a good sized marinated tri-tip is still a steal of a price. The mother lode tri tip is a can't miss and a fan favorite at any of our family bbqs. Definitely plan to bring a cooler and some ice packs so you can keep your meats stored properly in route to back home. read more

I was expecting a butcher shop where I could select some fresh pork chops or rib eye steaks. But most of the meats were pre-packaged frozen meats. Absolutely nothing wrong with that... it just wasn't what I was looking for. We did buy some frozen steaks. I found the prices to be reasonable but not worth going out of the way for (it's about 40 miles away from where we live). I've been going here for years, and I know they have changed the butcher and I believe new owners. I will be looking for other places to get the meat from now on as they have raised the prices and are way to much to say inflation or any other excuse. even the dog treats doubled $3 more a pound for tri tips just like that. I have ordered my turkeys and prime ribs from here at least 15 years but now I'm afraid of the cost. Swingles is where we buy almost all of our meat. Everything is local, the quality is very good and the pricing is cheaper than any grocery store or big box store. I love that they have tons of pre marinated options. Some of my favorites are the pineapple chicken, the Kona tri-tip, their maple bacon and prepared hash brown patties, and their prepared beef burgers. They also have tons of prepackaged house made pastas m, raviolis and sauces, sausages off all sorts, lunch meats, and premade dishes like chile verde. I am running a project in Sutter Creek, and was turned on to Swingle Meat Co. by my quality control director, and God Bless him for it! Swingle is Meat Co. is literally the 'carnivores toy store' (as per their branding). When you first arrive, Swingle Meat Co. is pretty straight forward. Older, relatively unassuming: easy to identify by the large Cow signage! Parking is limited, but I haven't had an issue with it - most people are in-and-out. The inside is full of taxidermy, wall freezers, etc. there is a deli meat counter, and there are several people available to help you onsite. The staff is FAST! Swingles has elk, rabbit, fish, chicken, beef, cheese, pasta! You name it, they have it. I even saw some bacon wrapped chipotle meatballs in the sausage side freezer... On my first visit, I picked up the Kona sausage, Kona tri-tip, Motherload pork short ribs. So far, we have had the Kona sausage which is AMAZING!!! Apparently, Kona-anything is their bread-and-butter; everyone is a fan! We are saving the tri-tip and ribs for the Superbowl (goooo, 49ers!). On my second visit, I picked up the ricotta and pesto ravioli. Delish! I also picked up some of their extra lean ground beef for my sauce ... at $4.85 a lb, was a great find and great quality (also kept in the same freezer as the sausage, to the left - if it's out, you can ask someone up front to grab more from the back freezer). When the weather warms up, I am grabbing some of their marinaded pineapple chicken and seasoned fish filets, for the grill. ** Swingle also has snacks and food for your fur babies!!!!! If meat is your thing, Swingle is your place!!!! And if you are in the area, also try Cavanas (5 min away in Sutter Creek). They use Swingle meat and its a great pit spot :) read more

It was very interesting. Lots of different meats and how they are marinated. Not only meat but the had pasta. Slice lunchmeat all packaged. Got some pastrami and turkey. A lot to choose from in size as well as marinating. Not a big place. We had the chicken kebabs they were good. The one thing I don't care for was the Sicilian bacon but my grandson liked it. My wife and I drove out to Swingle Meat today, only to find out they were closed. It was almost a four-hour round trip, so we were a bit disappointed--especially since they mentioned it was due to an emergency. From the outside, there was no sign of a fire, power outage, or anything obvious. We had hoped to pick up a few pieces to try, since this was only our second visit in many years. So it was definitely a letdown to arrive and find the place unexpectedly closed. What can I say? Barbecue master's dream! Marinated and vacuum sealed prime rib, tri tip, sausage, chicken, fish...all the parts; they often have exotic meats also. We make the drive once a month or every other month to stock up on our favorites. everything is delicious and they even have recommended cook times for you, if you ask! OPEN during Covid-19 *with social distancing and mandatory masking once inside* This is my 2nd visit while visiting a friend who lives nearby. An easy way to appear chef-like with no effort whatsoever. They have already marinated meats (beef, chicken, pork, lamb, elk, rabbit and more). They have housemade sausages, easy thaw/bake pasta such as stuffed manicotti, housemade raviolis and bolanegese sauces in easy 2-4 person portions ready to heat/serve. Today I left with: -maple bacon (all meat with some marbled fat) $6.49/lb -Artichoke & Parmesan Chicken/Lamb sausage $4.69/lb. This equates to 4 large sausages for ~$1.10 each -Elk, pork & beef sausages with Apples, Pears & Port Wine for $9.89/lb. This equates to 4 medium sized sausages for ~$2 each *very unique product* -Oxtail (very meaty looking - not easy to find) for $6.59/lb. -I also picked up a handful of liver treats (dehydrated liver cut like jerky) for $1.79 I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone on their way to camp (literally cook/ serve) or someone who wants to present chefy food with very little effort *thumbs up* They even have tomahawk steaks ready to go in the refrigerator case for $19.98/lb. I thought these were only available special order *WOW* A home chefs dream :D I'd pass on their famous marinated tri-tip for close to $20/lb only because I read the ingredients and I'm pretty sure I can do it myself for significantly less (no real effort to marinate a raw tri-tip for a couple of days that I can pick up for less than $6/lb at other places -but that's just me.
