The nice man working there, who might be the owner, was very helpful and showed my friend how to use a knife sharpener and gave her a lot of useful tips. An impromptu road trip brought me to Main Street Jackson CA. This kitchen shop is a must stop for me every single time. You should check it out to. I love browsing the aisles and checking out all the offerings. The shelves are stocked full of practical and impractical kitchen tools, gadgets, glassware, cups, cutting boards, pots and pans, small kitchen appliances, mixers, woks, steamers, cookware, kitschy decor, mugs, blah blah and so on. The price point are on the lines of Target. Plus the staff are so darn welcoming and helpful. My favorite item is the line of local crafted wood cutting boards. If you want quality cookware, knives, and kitchen supplies with outstanding customer service, this is where you come. The owners have a pride of ownership of the store and what products they bring in store and it shows. All their products are high quality but they also have stellar top of the line products especially in cookware and knives as well. Don't be intimidated. They will gladly show you and explain to you the benefits of each line and will not try to oversell you at all. They truly respect your budget. We have been coming her for years as we have been upgrading our supplies since they are over 20 years old from our wedding. We have bought knives and other tools. This last weekend, We were thrilled to be able to purchase the Swiss Diamond set. We love that they carry this brand. From all of our research they are top of the line. The knowledge of the owners of this business, the extensive travel and research they do to make sure they are bringing in quality product shows the heart and dedication they have to their business and customers. Putting the blame on customer for your own lack of communication!!! First of all, your opening hours on Yelp stated 9 AM but on your door, the posted hours are from 9:30 AM. I came in last Friday wanting to get my knives sharpen. The gentleman I spoke to let me know that the guy who sharpens knives was off on that Friday and to come back anytime on Sunday to pick up the knives. On Sunday morning at 9 AM, an older lady opened the door for us and I asked about their hours because they were different from the hours posted on Yelp. She said they open at 9:30 AM but she was ok with us looking around. We then asked about our knives. The lady came back with the knives, unsharpened, and said to me, "I told you the knives will not be ready because Travis was out Friday and Saturday..." Wait a minute, lady! You didn't speak to me on Friday when I brought in my knives. I spoke to another gentleman. I only met you the first time on Sunday when you opened the door for us. Get your story right and if anyone in the shop did not let us know that Travis was out Friday AND Saturday, and to come in at a certain time on Sunday instead of ANYTIME on Sunday, then don't blame your customer for your lack of communication. Thanks for apologizing for the mistake made but in the future, communicate better with your customers. Good thing we live close by... it would have been such a pain if we lived far away. Also, please fix your hours on Yelp so that customers are not misled. read more

I like this store as they have many wonderful items, however when I needed a lid for a frying pan the woman was very condescending repeatedly stating they have inexpensive lids and looking like, "I doubt you can afford our store" not exactly a fun experience. I have not been back to this store in a decade, but I first discovered it back in 1977 when I attended a State training facility in Ione. This store was the Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma of its' time-before either of them were established. The original founder and her daughter offered the most incredible customer service I have ever experienced. I walked back into the shop nearly ten years after my first visit and the owner remembered my name, where I was from, and who I worked for. Every item in that store had been beta tested by the owner and determined to be the best product for the money they could offer their customers. It was the first store where I'd seen hand wrought copper cookware from France and a range of cutlery unlike anywhere else I had shopped. The last time I was at the store I was passing through and stopped in to see the current location. The founder's grandson was minding the store and was about as welcoming and friendly as a beach rock. I later reached out to his mom and shared my experience and impression of the customer service. She could not have been nicer and I'd guess used it as a teachable moment. This business has always been such a treasure. I wish I lived closer so I could visit it more easily. I would assume (hope) that the customer service level has been rebooted to mimic the standards of the original business founders. Their welcoming embrace of customers and depth of shared knowledge always made shopping with them a truly memorable experience. read more

Just went here to browse their kitchen supplies. The staff was extremely helpful and gave good tips when it came to cutting something on the bigger side like a spaghetti squash. The size of the store is just right for the owners and every square inch is used. It carries everything from pots, pans and knives to little gadgets like onion cutters and kitchen books/magazines. When I asked about their chef knives they gave me a substantial amount of knives and a hearty amount of knowledge. They made me feel comfortable about my choice and didn't push for me to get anything else. A. Also when asking about sharpening they told me if I was a expert to use the water stone but if not the diamond rod works much better, this also showed me they weren't out for every cent but a reliable name instead. This is my favorite store in Jackson and the place I usually go to purchase Christmas gifts for all my foodie friends, as well as all my kitchen stuff. I agree with the last reviewer about the 1 star reviews not really representing this business and all it stands for. If you have ever owned a small business, you know how hard it is, and negative reviews can really destroy a small business. Maybe they can't afford to hire associates to be on every aisle. But guess what? This isn't SAKS 5th Avenue! This is an absolutely wonderful little mom n pop shop where I can happily spend hours browsing for all the little gadgets I had no idea i needed, as well as things you can't really find anywhere else. I don't dispute that it can be hectic at checkout, but they always help me and help answer all my questions. And nothing is overpriced here! I don't know how they stock all their inventory, because that is a huge expense in itself. The only thing I wish this store offered that it doesn't offer now is a cheesemaking and home-brew section. The store owner tell me she used to have one, but it wasn't popular enough. Maybe if enough of us ask, (and BUY them) they will start offering cheesemaking supplies. I did buy a jam strainer there that I am going to use as a tidy *whey* to drain my cheeses. I shopped there a couple of weeks ago and bought a bunch of stuff for Christmas, but didn't really have a chance to unpack it all. When I did, I found an extra package, all wrapped in a box with a bow, and it had a dish drying mat and a little scrubber. I was worried I had accidentally been given someone else's gift, so I called them to tell them about it. When I did, they told me it was MY gift; that they give them out this time of year. I had no idea. What a wonderful gesture. I hope this store stays in business. Please, fellow foodies and any RVers who stay at Jackson Rancheria-you really need to check this place out. We need to keep small businesses like these IN business, or all we will be left with are places like Walmart, places that are too big to care about their community, places that just parasitise a community. I LOVE this store! As a kitchen tool freak, it's like walking into a candy store for me! I can't believe how much high quality kitchenware they squeeze into this place! The good news is that it isn't as small as it used to be. They moved across the street to a slightly larger place. When I want to reward myself, this is where I shop. I've never had the experience with the proprietors that the other reviewer encountered. I've always been greeted with a friendly hello, asked if I need help with anything and cheerfully checked out at the register. They do have a fairly good selection, but they've let me down more than not. I try to shop local as much as possible, and would rather pay a little more, than spend the gas and time driving to Sac., also buying online means waiting, shipping, and not holding it before buying it. That being said, I have tried several times to buy, what I thought would be "no brainer" items, and was given odd stares, and even a little attitude. They don't carry, and have never heard of things like, pickling spice, brining bags, "pink salt", (not the Himalayan kind), the "brining" type. When I asked about them, they seemed uninterested in what these things were. I ended up having to go to Raley's to get the brining bags, and ended up buying, individually, all the different spices, needed to make "pickling spice". The pink salt/brining salt came from Amazon. read more

When I purchased an apple peeler at this store a few months ago I had a lengthy discussion with one of the employees about what the peeler was capable of. He assured me that the suction bottom apple peeler would work identically to the clamp bottom peeler that I had purchased there in the past. We had a discussion about this because I needed to to make sure that the peeler would not slice the apples. I am confident that I made this very clear to him. However, when I got home I found that the peeler did indeed slice the apples (making it useless to me). After discovering this (after the first use) I went to return the item to the store. However, the gentlemen who "helped" me were incredibly rude. They compared this to buying a T-shit, wearing it for 3 weeks and then trying to return it. If I would have gotten the correct information in the first place I would have never purchased this item. This was NOT the same thing. I became frustrated and we had a tense conversation. He finally begrudgingly let me leave with the correct peeler. The entire experience was frustrating and demeaning. They desperately need to work on their customer service. read more

It does NOT get any better than this, and don't ever let anybody tell you that it does. Yesterday I went down there in need of information. My sons gave me a state of the art super fast glass stove top for my birthday that I was having trouble understanding. The young gentleman there was an EXPERT and gave me a half hour class on how to use it with many tips and suggestions, and I was SO grateful. I've never gone in there with a question they couldn't answer, for over 20 years, and you won't find this level of expertise anywhere else that I know of in the foothills. On top of that, they always have the latest kitchen paraphenalia. I will see something new on TV, I go down there, and they already have it. This place is the BOMB. read more

We always stop here on the way to the high Sierras. Such a good shop and really nice folks to answer question, etc. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We knew this shop when they were located nearby (about 8 [?} years ago) and now they have moved into their own premises on the main street in Jackson. Last time we bought some high quality stainless steel skewers for the bbq and a knife sharpener. Good price too. We feel good supporting local businesses like this. read more

I love this store!! I love cooking and baking so this store is like a playground for me!! My only saving grace is that I don't live closer, I'd spend too much in here. It's nicely organizer. THE best place in Jackson and one of the best kitchen stores I've been to - and it is my hobby to visit kitchen stores everywhere I go. I was first introduced to them when they presented a demonstration to our RV group at Jackson Rancheria RV Park. Ever since I make it a point to visit the store each time we're in Jackson. For our most recent RV rally the store hosted an evening party for us, with snacks and drinks, and demo'd some of their cool cooking tools. I could spend hours browsing their huge selection. I'm sure the don't have EVERYTHING, but they have a huge variety and are tops in customer service. Visiting the store is always the highlight of our trips to Jackson - don't miss it! read more

I have shopped in this store several times,and had enjoyed it.... but I had not had to return anything until last Fall.....Wow! Id purchased a set of pots & pans....I explained before I bought them that Id be cooking on a Wolf Stove and needed pans that'd work with such. The pans that I purchased did not and when I went back to talk to the Woman that runs the store she was aggressively upset and stated we'd "abused" the pots and pans and that most likely our kids had too. In reality all we'd done was try cooking with them on our Wolf Stove......I only wanted to return and or exchange these pots and pans....never in a million years did I imagine Id have been brought to tears by .way of being treated so rudely. read more

This little store located in the heart of Jackson, CA, is a gold mine of everything kitchen. I love kitchen gadgets and this store has it all (well almost). I found the owners and staff very friendly and helpful. I visit the store every chance I get, even if it's just to see what's new. Many of my friends have purchased sets of cooking ware that they just rave about and maybe one day I will brake down and purchase a set also. Last time I visited, I ended up buying things I didn't even know I needed. But now that I did, I'm not sorry because they came in very handy. First place we walked into Sunday boy this was not a good start to the day. It's not very busy couple of people walking aroud. No one ever asked if we needed help. You ask a question and we found them to be short, pompus and gave us an attitude. Yeah the customer service brought sad tears to my eyes it was awefull. We are better than you buy are stuff. I have returned to this store a few times. I have purchased 2 tea pots that I can remember, and when they were in the old location down the street on the corner, I had bought other items there as well. They are ALWAYS friendly and willing to help in my experiences. They also give you your space and let you browse, as there are so many things to look at. I love everything about this little store. My only complaint is that the prices are a tad on the high end, but in turn, the product is usually very good. The clerks are very helpful and in this last buying experience she checked the product in the box before letting me leave, and thankfully she did as it had been damaged in shipping. So kuddo's to her for looking so I didn't have to waste a trip to return it. :) read more
