I told Charles I wasn't picked and I eat whatever he recommended for breakfast. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are huge! You will not leave hungry. We ordered the fried mushrooms and they were lightly battered. They were amazing. They served them with ranch. Amazing. I had the regular cheeseburger which was cooked perfectly and served with crinkle French fries. I loved every bite. For dessert, my husband had warmed Dutch apple pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. What a way to end a meal!! I had the coconut cream pie which was fabulous as well. She indeed had the catfish dinner with cole slaw and onion rings. And she loved it, a huge order that would also be her dinner for the evening. I opted for the philly cheese steak sandwich tgat came with one side, coke slaw. The slaw was good and the sandwich was served with oinions and green peppers (I declined the mushrooms). It too was very good, steak was tender and the veggies were hot but still crunchy on a hoagie bun that was toasted. We had coconut and butterscotch pie for dessert. We split both slices and both, homemade were very tasty. Meriguine pilled high with creamy filling and great flavor. Plenty of parking, decent prices. They also have a drive thru. Service was efficient and friendly, although we did have to go up to the counter to order our desserts since the waitress didn't come back after we finished our meal to take our dessert orders. But the girl at the counter was nice enough to cut both slices of pie in half and put half of each in to go containers. Typical counrty cafe with clean bathrooms, a few booths, tables and a pay at the counter set up. I wouldn't drive 2 hours to eat here but if in the area I would return.

I was back in the town I grew up in a couple of weeks ago, and heard there was a really nice cafe in Stanford now called the Bluebird, so I sought it out. I was amazed. This definitely is more like a place I would expect in Lexington or Louisville. The food is genuinely good. Iced coffee and espresso, hot browns, and lots of other food that was never in Stanford when I was growing up there as a kid. I know that Stanford went wet a few years ago in a referendum, but it's still surreal to see margaritas and other mixed drinks on the menu in a place in Stanford. The ambiance was friendly and welcoming, and struck a nice balance between small town friendly. I had a patty melt, which was probably the best meal I'd ever had in a restaurant in Stanford in my entire life. I will definitely be back the next time I come back to my old hometown.

Now, I thought initially, and she even admitted, that the chicken and dumplings/beef stew mix was a little unorthodox, but that they were both so good I had to try them. Both were fantastic. The apples were awesome. I liked both types of corn bread. When I got up to leave, she called me over to the counter and said that since it was my first time there, I'd get a free dessert. You all, I was too full to even try. The food here is both tasty and filling. I was in Richmond for a conference at Eastern Kentucky University. So it was really convenient to stop by. But I'd say that even if you're remotely close, it's worth a visit. Don't, as I did, judge a book by its cover.
