To put it lightly it was gross- over fried and empty literally air In The middle a spot of cheese or beef in both. Just a big pocket of dough called up she told me to bring back then the owner I assume said he's never had anything returned in 15 years lol amd he said thanks for the complaint amd gave my money back . A solid 3.5 stars but I'm rounding up to 4 because of the excellent customer service me & my son received from the 2 counter girls & the cook who I am assuming is the owner also. Plus it's a pretty new business. Kinks have to be worked out. To be expected. The Good: 1. Sons steak burrito was delicious he said. Henceforth no pic. He devoured it. Filled with steak & tightly rolled. 2. They have tongue tacos. Yay! 3. My Steak Nachos were plentiful. The steak was seasoned perfectly to my taste preference. Lots of cheese sauce, beans & jalapeños. The Not So Good But Easily Remedied: 1. Tongue tacos had no flavor & were not tender enough. 2. No sauce was given for Burrito or Nachos just a very small container of sour cream. 3. The green & red sauce given for my tacos were TINY. If I didn't get both I wouldn't have enough for both tacos. Plus both sauces lacked flavor. The packets of Cholula hot sauce saved them. Soooo would I go back? Hell yeah! The steak Nachos & Burrito were delicious. I'd like to see how the pork & shrimp tastes. Haven't ordered takeout in a while but got home late from work and just didn't have it in me to fuss in the kitchen-- and then I remembered Mamey-- so so delicious! I love the Sopes! I usually go for the chicken sopes which I haven't found anywhere else in NY (but were always a menu favorite when I lived in AZ and would go out for Mexican food there) love the fresh grated cheese, shredded lettuce, & diced tomato on top! I saw this place from the train platform and knew I'd have to come back to try it. It's run by a really nice couple making wholesome food. I tend to have low expectations in Suffolk County when it comes to anything other than pizza or bagels, so I had my doubts about this place. But I was pleasantly surprised. I got three tacos. I always get lengua and al pastor when I try a new taco place and I couldn't resist getting a chorizo taco as well. While a far cry from what you'd get in Queens or in Southern California, the tacos were pretty good for this area. There was a generous portion of tongue, although the lengua flavor was minimal and it was less tender than I'm used to. A little lime helped bring out the flavor. The al pastor was decent, but was way too salty. It got so salty that I couldn't finish the taco. I also prefer the pineapple being a thin slice added on top instead of diced and cooked in, but that's just a preference. The pineapple flavor became too pronounced and covered the flavor of the pork. The chorizo taco was a total miss for me. The filling was not chorizo. It was an Americanized chorizo sausage link cut up into cubes. It was one of the stranger tacos I've ever had. I expect chorizo to be almost like ground meat, with some grease and a lot of flavor. This "chorizo" was none of those things. They might as well have gone to the market, bought chicken and apple sausage, and used that to make a taco. The highlight of the meal was the horchata. They make the horchata in-house and it was delicious. It was creamy with generous cinnamon flavor. It was rich and the kind of horchata that you have to mix each time you take a sip or it starts to separate. It was a nice contrast to the rich tacos. Mamey was a bit more expensive than I expected. I'm used to $1 tacos in Southern California or $2-2.50 tacos in Queens. Here, the lengua and the al pastor were $4 each. And the chorizo was $3. This place was definitely "Americanized" to fit the area. They call the lengua taco the "run your mouth" taco and they use that weird chorizo. But it's more authentic than what you can get from Del Fuego or Swell Taco in the area. This is a nice, safe, and clean place to get some real tacos instead of the mess you get from Del Fuego. read more

Mamey is a fairly new spot to Babylon right by the train station. My parents are usually pretty particular about Mexican food and when they raved about it I was excited to give them a shot. The food is consistently delicious. The Al Pastor Tacos are hands down the best item on the menu. Typically get their quesadillas and burritos which never fail. My mom loves their Spring Salad so if you're feeling something lighter that's another option. Last but not least, the owners are beyond friendly. Eh tacos were fresh but very plain and lacked flavor. I wasn't impressed. We tried the trio (chicken, steak and carnitas) and chorizo and shrimp. The tacos were only topped with tiny amount of onion and cilantro. For 5 tacos they also only gave us two tiny containers of salsa. If you are one of those people who likes their food very plain without any seasoning or sauces then this place is for you. We went in here with my brother in law. He swore it was good but unfortunately it really wasn't. I am giving 3 stars because the staff was really nice. I had a salad with black beans and cheese. I asked for extra cheese, of course the usual case they didn't give me enough cheese so I had to ask for more. They were nice they gave me more when I asked for it. Unfortunately the salad wasn't really all that good. My husband didn't really like his food either. We don't understand why my brother in law loves it. AUTHENTIC MEXICAN SPOT! The prices are so good but what's even better is how delicious the the food is. Our favorite thing to get there is the Al Pastor tacos and Chicken Enchiladas with green sauce. Can't forget the churros either. They are soft and not too crunchy. They give you a side of melted fudge so drizzle over them. I've been getting food from them for the past 1 1/2 years and everything from the tortas to the tostadas to the variety of tacos is just sooo good. You can only order takeout at this time so we just take it home but it travels well. The staff is always nice. I like this place a lot. It's a very small family place and everything is like homemade. The quality is very nice, everything we order is always delicious. We usually get takeout here because it's so small that there's really only a handful of tables to sit at which is fine for lunch. Delicious and very fresh, a hidden treasure in Babylon. Food tastes very much home-made, light compared to other places with similar food. By default it's mild, but they offer sauces to drive up the spicy level depending on what you like. Ive been wanting to try this new Mexican place. What a disappointment. I got 2 tacos. One carnita, and one beef I think. I also got a chimichanga and couldn't tell what kind of mushed meat it was. The tacos have little pieces of tiny diced meat. ?? Whats up with that. The Guacamole is black and brown and definitely not fresh. I also got chips to go with the Guac. The chips were the only part of the meal i could eat. Also the guac came in a tiny 4oz container. The pico salsa came in a 2oz container and the salsa verde came in a scamp 1 0z container. Small Mexican eatery outside the Babylon train station with only three tables so take out is the better option. For me, the food was just mediocre at best. Tried the beef enchiladas which had a slightly spicy red sauce on top but the meat was a tad underwhelming and the rice on the side was a bit crunchy. Also tried a carnitas taco which only got its flavor from the onion, cilantro and lime juice I sprinkled on it. Service, however, is very welcoming and nice and prices are low. Not my favorite Mexican take out, but you'll be warmly greeted at least. read more

When I got home and opened the food i knew I'd never go back there..the worst tacos I ever had. I remade them!! The ground meat had 0 flavor no seasoning onions tomatoes Nothing!! I couldn't believe it. The worst in Mexican food history. Now, about a hundred feet away on the same block, ironically is another Mexican spot! I walked past Mamays (it's always empty!) to go to this other Mexican spot literally a hundred feet away on the same block and whats even crazier is that the food is official!! Mamey's is sooo frickin good! It's like having street tacos and more from a nice super clean looking store front. I have been here maybe half a dozen times. Every time the food and the service was excellent!! One of my favorites is the Steak Chimichanga. There is nothing else like it. Last time I went I tried the Spring Salad. It was super fresh and the balsamic dressing was really good. Pork taco is also really good - very juicy and had a good amount of filling. Their guacamole is small but it has the perfect amount of lime balance. The side sauces are also small as others have stated. There are like 3 tables for 4 inside. I do their take out and there is absolutely no compromise to the high quality of their food when it gets home due to their attention to detail. Perfect location for Babylon train people. Went a couple days ago with a friend and we ordered a little bit of everything to try things out. Atmosphere is cool and comfortable. It's great that it's right near the train station, and the food comes out pretty quick so if you want something good to eat before catching the train, check this place out. The guacamole is a little steep for the amount you get but, the food over all is awesome- more authentic Mexican than the Tex-Mex LI usually has.
