I hired this company in 1992 and thought they were hard working people. However, If they "charge you for travel time" or "milk the clock", they have probably stopped and parked their 3 loud and idling trucks with 3 guys each in front of my house in the bike lane, to get their breakfasts at Palm Tree deli at 20th and Pine, for a half hour to 45 minutes, making it feel like the street is a commercial corridor on Washington Avenue. This morning was from 7:55 - 8:30 am. We have asked them many times to please not park in front of our house, because of the disturbance and illegal parking and they said, "we don't care,". "Everyone needs to be more flexible" and insinuated that we were wealthy and "have everything paid for." While I have some appreciation that these people are all artists, They could avoid making assumptions about people in the communities that they serve and have some understanding of the complaint about multiple loud and polluting Commercial Trucks staging in a Residential Neighborhood No Parking Zone that is in a Bike Lane. P.S. Our house was deemed "a livable shell" when we hired Mambo to help us move in, (we moved plenty from the truck ourselves that day, because we couldn't pay a lot more than the estimate) and we have been working hard on it ever since and no - it's not "all paid for," thank you. read more

The last few months as I've been preparing my move to Philly have been pretty stressful. Strangely enough, the move from the ReloCube to my apartment was possibly the least stressful part of it all (some of that Mambo Mover magic, I suppose). Weirdly enough, like with the movers in Austin who prepped my stuff to get to Philly, Mambo Movers were not my "first" choice. I initially was hoping for Old City Movers, but they recommended a weekend move due to their experience suggesting an easier move than during the weekday (I could have inquired about an earlier move date during the weekday, but didn't. The issue was that the weekend date was the day before I started a new job) and it seemed they wanted me to get the parking permit for them. I reached out to Mambo Movers, and they had no issue with the move date I proposed on the weekday, and said they'd get the parking permit they'd need (I paid for it, but they handled all the paperwork). I got a call a few days before the actual move confirming everything, and then on the date of the move I received a call as the guys were heading out to the site. They got there fast, the three guys loaded things up, and they got to my apartment without any issue and got things in quickly. The front desk was impressed with their work that he asked for business cards that he could pass out. I suspect when the time comes to move again, I'll reach back out to Mambo Movers. read more

I have used them to move between a couple different apartments in Philly. I have always had a good experience. They are reasonable, they prorate if you go over 2 hours (their minimum) rather than round up. If you are moving on a weekend, call far in advance because they book up quickly. Let me tell you, I have thorough experience moving in Philadelphia, having gone through a hellish period of moving 5 times in 3.5 years, including one time when the movers did not even show up (!). My recent Philly to NYC move with Mambo was absolutely amazing. They came in like a band of helpful sprites, and essentially before I knew it they had moved out my large bedroom and mountain of boxes. In New York, they were similarly swift and seemingly effortless (though I know they were putting in a large amount of effort, as it were). Mambo is the real deal. Just pay attention the the details - know the rate, billing increments, any fees like gas or tolls and overweight items premium cost. I have used Mambo movers twice, both times the experience was exceptional. After making an inquiry you will be contacted by a member of their team to go over what exactly is being moved and the details. They will then give you recommendations on how to pack/what to pack (P.S their website is super helpful too). From there they will go through what exactly they expect in terms of timing, manpower and permits they will need (and yes they take care of all the permits for you - something a lot of movers do not even bother with and then stick you with the tab). Once that is settled you will get an estimate and they will contact you closer to date of the move. The day of The movers arrived right on time and were extremely polite, friendly, basically went above and beyond to make sure everything was moved safely and securely. They move methodically and are very organized. TThat even helped me figure out what to do about bigger pieces of furniture I thought I would have to dismantle and toss (turns out they were able to help me take it apart and then they moved it for me!) They are careful to ensure all your packed boxes will go into the correct rooms and even move things are to ensure you have an easier time unpacking. Impression : If you are going to move, figure out the date ASAP and book these guys! They are great, do a wonderful job and are super easy to work with. They were right on time, communicative, and efficient. They made the moving process so easy and were very smart about where they placed items in my new, small place. I wasn't 100% packed, yet the 3 guys worked around me, loaded the truck to the brim piece by piece, and despite normal Philly narrow house, narrow & low staircases, put everything on each of 4 floors (I never could have) as requested. Just used Mambo to move from a walk up apartment in Philly to my apartment in Manhattan and their three man crew was timely, efficient, pleasant, and cheap! They also have a Certificate of Insurance and sent it to my NY super within maybe two hours of my requesting it. Their website is very wacky but don't let that stop you from hiring these guys! They arrived just before 9 and started the clock. They moved all my boxes and my mattress to their truck downstairs and disassembled a bed frame. They were off by 10 and arrived at my place in NYC at 12:30. They finished their move by 1:30 and were off. All in all the move cost a little over 1100. They provided a full invoice and included tip on it as well (which was helpful since my firm was reimbursing the move). After the move was over, my normally-hard-to-impress super said "wow where did you find these guys, that was great". My mom, who was coordinating the move on the NYC end, appreciated that they were laid back - it helped her stress levels a lot that they would make small talk and jokes while moving. All in all, amazing amazing service. High points for efficiency and quality of service and was really impressed with the price. I will say the only frustrating thing is that they don't accept card so you have to be prepared to pay with cash, certified check, or money order. We ended up going the cash route and the final cost ended up being way under their initial guesstimate (which was based on travel time etc.) read more

Mambo movers has moved me two times now. The first was from a 2nd and 3rd floor apartment with a narrow stair way and into two different storage units. They packed things up from our two bedroom apartment in a little over an hour. They had three guys and moved very quickly. They took great care in ensuring that none of our belongings were damaged during the move. When we got to the storage unit, it was locked and the office was closed. The Mambo guys were very gracious and patient with us as we waited until we got a hold of the office. They moved our belongings in and packed the storage units in a very efficient way! The second time that I used them was to move out of the storage unit and into our next apartment. This, too, is a 3rd floor apartment and the steps up are very steep (no apartment steps in Philly are easy!). They moved my things from the storage unit and to the apartment in less than 2 hours. It made our entire moving process much easier and I couldn't be more thankful! Be sure to book far in advance as they fill up very quick. You will be so glad that you booked with Mambo! These guys moved my things quickly and took basic direction well. That said, I was given a super loose time frame of the afternoon after their morning job so I expected to see them around 1-2. Instead, I was called at 11:20 in the morning and given a half-hour notice with no option to stick to our original time frame. I wanted to get some more packing done before they arrived. After most things were moved into my new place, my couch was the last hurdle. Much to my dismay, it would not fit through the doorway of my walk-up (which they scratched up because they didn't remove the legs) . The movers tried once quickly and took it back down. They then tried with the legs off per my request and still no luck. When I asked them to lift it another way and try, I was met with a, "I've been doing this a long time and I know it's not going to work." RUDE. After this point, there was a very noticeable shift in all of their attitudes. This was surprising as I was very pleasant throughout the whole process while most customers would have gotten more upset and demanding; my couch isn't that heavy so what's the harm in trying it another way? It was a hot day and I went out of my way to purchase a case of water AND Gatorade and put them in my fridge to ensure they were ice cold during the move. I let them know SPECIFICALLY several times to help themselves to one of these particular beverages, only to see that none were taken and instead one mover felt at liberty to take one of my La Croixs (which were NOT offered)! If he asked, I of course would have been happy to offer him one, but especially after how I felt I was treated, I feel even more cheated by this. Going back to the couch, my thought is that if they have been doing this as long as they claim and saw this issue happen with many couches, why was no same-day solution offered or even discussed (such as breaking the couch a little). I, the customer, was made to feel uncomfortable asking to use what extra time we had and I was paying for (at least half an hour) to try some more. My belief is that they wanted to get out of the hot hallway as quickly as possible rather than work through the issue more with me. They didn't buy the couch so to them, it's not their problem if it doesn't fit right away; bad customer consideration/service, if you ask me. TLDR: All in all, these guys are fine IF the job is simple, but don't expect them to go the extra mile for you during your move or accommodate your feelings or respect the time you're paying for, especially when things start going south (no matter how nice/calm you remain throughout the process)! read more

Mambo Movers were touted to us as the best in town, but we had anything but the best in our experience. For background, we've moved 5 times in the past 6 years (including across states) and this is the only time we've had an issue. To start, the movers showed up late. They were supposed to come between 9-9:30 and rolled up at 10. They also didn't get a permit for the move, which struck me as odd, because all other companies I've worked with have taken care of that. It then took them over three hours just to load up our two bedroom apartment with the use of trolleys and an elevator. We had everything packed in boxes and stacked ready to go, so this timeframe was just unacceptable. When my husband left the apartment, they told him they'd see him at the new house (which was less than a 5 minute drive from the apartment.) 30 minutes passed and they still hadn't arrived so my husband called them and they said they'd be ANOTHER 35 minutes because they stopped for lunch. They never mentioned this to us and just kept us waiting. When they finally arrived to our new (very quiet) neighborhood, they started blasting rock music out of the back of the truck, which I'm sure our new neighbors did not appreciate. Next, they repeatedly brought labeled boxes to the wrong location. Additionally, they would repeatedly drop boxes that were labeled "fragile". They also put our 135 pound Peloton in the wrong room despite our instructions, so my husband and I had to move it ourselves. Most egregious, however, is that my husband witnessed them kicking open doors to get into a particular room. Over 6 hours into our day, when they finally finished, I voiced my discontent and one of the movers got extremely confrontational stating that in his opinion, they did a great job, and that they're professionals and the best movers in town. He stated it took so long because they "had to drive across town." Across town = from South Broad and Catherine to 17th Street, which can be WALKED in under 15 minutes. I called their manager, Mike, and he just made excuses for them. We paid close to $1000 for a move that I know should have cost a fraction (given others' prior experiences with the same company). 0/10 I would NOT recommend this company and I wish I had paid attention to the other negative reviews on here. The guys who moved us were nice and worked very hard all evening to get the furniture up our large trinity stairs to the second, third and fourth floors. However, they were unable to hoist our large, heavy dresser up to the second floor deck, (on the way to the third floor). It was attempted around 9:30pm, the end of a long day that didn't start until 10:30am. They were spent by that time and ill equipped (literal lack of equipment) to lift our Restoration Hardware dresser. I would not recommend Mambo Movers to anyone who has to hoist significant pieces of furniture. Otherwise, they are very hardworking, nice guys. read more

They THREATENED me, then HUNG UP on me. Why? Because I asked for an ETA. No, I'm not kidding. Every time I had talked to their office (booking the job, calling back to ask questions, when they called me to confirm the job) they said the same thing regarding the crew's ETA in the morning: "They should arrive between 9am and 9:30am." So on the morning of the job, when there was no sign of the movers at 9:30am, we called their office. We got pushed off ("oh, they're probably getting some coffee."). When I called back at 9:50am, I got the same excuse. He asked where I live, I told him and he said, oh yeah, we're in South Philly, so that's why it's taking a while (as if where they're located should matter). When I asked for an ETA, the guy said he can't do that. When I asked if he could have the crew call me or give me their number, he said "No." When I asked if he could call them and ask for an ETA, he said no and got increasingly irritated. He said they "should" be there in a few minutes. I noted that just going on faith that they would show up and not having any sort of recourse (e.g. "call me back if they don't show up" or "we'll give you a break on the price") was not comforting at all. He didn't seem to care. Then I said, look, I'm on a bit of a schedule here (I have limited access to the elevators and a toddler who needs to get down for a nap) and this is later than what we'd planned for because they were supposed to be here by 9:30am, so it'd be really helpful to get an ETA. At this point, the guy cut me off and began ARGUING with me and said they "never give out specific times" (false), their trucks all leave at separate times (...and?), etc. At which point I stopped him and said, wait, you guys all told me you'd show up between 9 and 9:30. At this point, he straight up got belligerent and yells: "SOUNDS LIKE YOU WANT TO WANT TO CANCEL THE JOB! DO YOU WANT TO CANCEL THE JOB??" Are you serious? He knows we can't cancel, they have all the leverage... which he used to THREATEN and INTIMIDATE me. I tried to tell him there was no need to get angry and that I was just asking for an ETA. Then he HUNG UP on me. Yep. Like an angry teenager. Again, taking advantage of the fact that he has all the leverage to treat me like s---. So, unless you enjoy being treated like garbage (and literally paying for it), STAY AWAY FROM MAMBO. read more

I rarely write reviews but felt so inclined today because my move was made exceptionally easy and pleasant by Mambo movers and in particular by my moving team, Gint, Juston, and Mickey (Luke). These guys were more than professional; they were kind, jovial, and just fun to be around. When my elevator broke half-way through my move-out, no complaints, not even a word! They just kept on going without any change of pace or demeanor! They did the whole move in 4 hours, a job that would take other less skilled movers at least 6 hours, particularly with the 4-floor walk-up at the end. They always treated my things with care; I felt at ease the whole time. Mambo should take pride in having such high quality people as employees. I recommend Mambo for any and all moves! We originally only scheduled them to take our furniture since we figured we could just make multiple trips in the car with boxes, but they were willing to take any boxes we had available and packed. I read great things about this company. The positives were the movers were very nice and professional. No talking (aka cursing) on the phone during the move like I have experienced with other companies. N My big rant comes from them overbooking and not showing up to move the contents of my apartment from 1 floor to another in the same building with an elevator. They didn't show up until 6 pm the day of the move, even after I repeatedly left messages on their answering machine. Promptly at 8pm, they said they were finished for the day and what else was absolutely necessary for them to move. Half of my boxes and stuff were still needing to be moved!!! I am handicapped, but ended up having to move the rest of the stuff myself for the next several hours. I was pissed! If they couldn't/wouldn't work past 8, then hey shouldn't have taken my job that day. read more

If there were an option to rate ZERO stars, I would do so! I am actually starting to wonder if the rest of these reviews are even real?? Jesse, Sam and Dean showed up to my apartment, about an hour later than I was advised that they would be coming. I let that slide. They wandered around my place for a minute or so and then went down to the truck and came back. I assumed they were working their movers' magic and figuring out how to stack things. I was wrong. When they came back up they asked me if I needed more time to pack because of all the "loose things." I said, no, those are things that are going in my car (things like clothes hamper/laundry basket/ my laptop/ etc.) and I would need them to take all the packed boxes and suitcases, the televisions, the tv stand, the sofa, the desk and the bed. This, by the way, is all information that I gave the company when booking the move. They said, okay and headed back down to the truck. A few minutes later, my mother heads outside to get some air and tells me that the truck is gone! I am in disbelief at this point; maybe they went to get some equipment or something. So I call the company and Serge, the phone guy, says he'll find out what's going on and call me back. Its been an hour and a half, at this point and he has YET to call me back. Instead, about half an hour later I get a text from one of the movers saying that it would not be in my best interest to move today as it would be time consuming and dangerous. WHAT?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!??! First of all, its not like they are doing me a favor here. If its time consuming, then I'll have to pay them! That's MY problem. And dangerous how? I don't have anything out of the ordinary to be moved. I was told that they could disassemble the bed and desk, when I booked them. So where, pray tell, is the danger? Because of the extraordinarily unprofessional behavior of this company, I was left to call around to other movers HOPING that someone could squeeze me in today because MY LEASE IS UP! Not only that, but now no one will answer the phone at the company and the guy who sent me the text will also not answer the phone. Thanks for nothing Mambo Movers. Wah wahhhhh. 1. They did not send a big enough truck, despite the fact that I told them I was moving a three story house and a basement. Then they told me it would be an extra 4-6 hours at $123 an hour for a second trip. How is that a mistake I should pay for? Not that I could because it already cost me a month's rent for one trip, and they only take cash. 2. I was fine with the original "window" of 9-9:30 (why do you need a window when it's the first job of the day???) - these guys showed up at 10. At least they called first. 3. I know what they were doing in that half hour. Good gawd, they smelled so heavily of weed I might've gotten a contact high in the first 30 seconds they were in my house. 4. After three hours of moving, I was still being asked what my two-color coding system stood for. (GREEN = UPSTAIRS, ORANGE = BASEMENT). I really thought it was pretty simple...I'm still finding boxes in the wrong place. 5. I found a box marked "FRAGILE" in HUUUUUGE black letters under big, heavy boxes. 6. The movers told me to call and complain about the truck situation (I understood it wasn't their fault, but the fault of the person who took the order). They said call the next day, that no one was in that day. When I called to complain, Serge told me the guy I needed to speak to wasn't in and I'd have to call back. I called back, and it was the same "not here" nonsense. I haven't had time to deal with them, and this review will have to suffice (tough way to take it, guys). Who runs this business?? 7. They upped the price on the spot for the 3rd floor, EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THE PERSON ON THE PHONE EXACTLY MY MOVING SITUATION - again, if he wrote down the wrong size truck and price, how is that my fault?? I had to go to the ATM to get more cash. I didn't want to punish the guys who were doing the manual labor, they were friendly enough, but I should've just refused and insisted on talking to someone in charge right then. There they were standing in my threshold. On time as promised. Off to a good start. I was puzzled. They certainly didn't look like the stereotypical, ex-football player style movers that I had envisioned. In fact, they hardly looked like grown men at all in their tight little t-shirts and their cut-off jean shorts. If it hadn't been for their old world style facial hair, I might have mistaken them for a band of rogue, truant middle-schoolers out for a day of sporting mischief. Inside my brain, I had already begun to mock their puny arms and lack of definition. I glanced back at my monstrous leather couch and chuckled in anticipation of what was sure to be a Three Stooges-esque scene. No way were THESE guys going to move THAT couch. They looked more like some hipster garage band than a rugged group of moving men. This was going to be interesting. Oh, how wrong I was. These Lilliputians worked fast and efficiently. They didn't even bat an eye as they dragged my giant couch out to the truck. When we arrived at my new location, they tied some straps around that bad boy and hoisted it over the railing of my second floor patio, right into my room. Not one bead of sweat hit the ground. Flawless execution. I was floored and I felt ashamed at having judged them in such a harsh light. Yesterday, I discovered my biggest stress trigger: moving. Luckily, the three guys from Mambo who arrived at my door were not only beasts at moving mountains of furniture, they also were happy to step into the role of counselor whenever I looked particularly panic-stricken... which was often. It was not an easy day but we (ahem, I) managed to get through it. Not a single tear was shed and my nerves are still miraculously intact. I'd recommend Mambo Movers to anyone facing the challenges of a big move in a heartbeat. Next time I'm going to offer double and see if they'll stick around and help unpack. read more

Oh, Mambo... you done me wrong. We used Mambo for our recent move and, sadly, will never use them again. They arrived early, which was great, and again the guys were normal and not at all creepy. But that's about all the good... Knowing that Mambo isn't overly careful (see previous review), we moved all of our dishes, glassware, and expensive appliances ourselves. We were planning on moving all of our artwork as well, but the guy assured us that they would be very careful. Well, long story short--they weren't. A framed print ended up getting damaged. When we brought this to their attention they were apologetic and said they would fix it. After having the picture in their custody for three and a half weeks, they brought it back and it was still damaged! The glass was replaced, but the frame was still clearly broken. The guy even acknowledged it, but said that they were hoping we would take it anyways. Um, no. They took the picture back and it took us five additional weeks for them to fix it properly. I'm sure it would have taken longer had we not emailed them every week to check its status. Additionally, they badly scraped up our expensive dining room table. They fixed some of the damage on the wooden leg, but the scratches in the glass are unfixable. They also put a hole in our ceiling while moving our dresser up the stairs, lost a shelf to our bookcase, and broke the hinge on my husband's desk. Bottom line: If you have stuff that you care about, it's worth the additional money to hire a more professional crew. read more
