Tried this place for the first time today. I usually go to Kingston 30 by Sugarloaf Mills, but I wanted to give Mama's a try since it was closer. Came around 1pm on a weekday, and it was pretty busy, but the orders were coming out quick. I ordered for takeout. Reading the reviews, I didn't opt for the mini lunch portion since everyone says its way too small. I ordered the large jerk chicken with rice and peas, cabbage and plantains. The chicken was seasoned perfectly. Perfectly spicy as well! The rice and peas and plantains were normal, just like any other Jamaican restaurant. I also ordered a chicken patty on the side. The food is good; but, like most Jamaican restaurants (and I'm Jamaican) the SERVICE is subpar. For example, I've called multiple times on a Saturday morning to place a to-go order, but no one picks up. Their hours say they're open from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm on Saturdays. Instead of setting up a voice service that places the caller on hold; or, something that tells the patron they're closed, we get a message that says "I'm sorry, the party you're trying to reach has not setup voicemail". Like seriously, what reputable restaurant doesn't have voicemail?? It's unfortunate b/c it's clear to me they know how to cook good food, but that appears to be all they know how to do. If the owner(s) happen to run across this review, please prioritize your service as much as you prioritize the food. There are 2-3 other Caribbean restaurants within a 15 mile radius that provides MUCH better service. read more

Today is my second day back this week! This restaurant is doing the best they can and you can feel it in their food! Their small and large plates on thee menu come in a generous portion that is bound to fill you up or provide some food for you the next day. I highly recommend anything on their menu! My favorites would have to be there juicy and flavorful jerk pork, their hearty and tender oxtail, and any patty wether it be beef or chicken. I highly recommend this place! read more

I decided to stop by and try this little place. It's not something that sticks out from the road but I definitely encourage you to find it and try it. The people seem friendly. There is ample seating. I tried the curry goat. It tasted great. Had good flavor. The goat tasted like it was pressure cooked, so it was soft and full of flavor. This spot has quality Caribbean food and a fair price. My wife and I ordered Jerk chicken X 2 with coco bread. Our order was correct and the food tasty and flavorful. The only criticism is that the food could use less rice and more chicken. read more

I came here to meet a buddy for lunch. It's right around the corner from my office, and not far from the sugarloaf pkwy and satellite blvd merge. It's located off satellite blvd in a small shopping center. It would be easy to miss this place as it's not very big. We walked in, and I was originally worried there wasn't going to be seating based off how small the space looks from the outside. Thankfully they had about 8-9 booths lined up on the left hand side. The lighting isn't great in this place but this isn't a place you go to for atmosphere. My buddy ordered the jerk pork, and was told they were out of that. He then ordered something else and they were out of it too. Thankfully, they had what I wanted, which was the jerk chicken. My meal came with rice, cabbage, plantain and 3 pieces of jerk chicken. I didn't like the plantain but the rice (w/ gravy) was good and the jerk chicken was good. I expected it to have a tad bit more hotness to it but flavoring wasn't bad. I grabbed one of their specially drinks, a fruit punch, that I didn't really like. Overall, it's a decent place. Cost was around $12.60 for what I had. I was full from it but not a place I'd go regularly for lunch. I was a little letdown and had hoped I'd like it more. I'd say give it a try and see for yourself. read more

I have been searching for carribean food all over ATL. I know that have places everywhere, this spot just so happen to be the closest one too me. Lets dive in, I ordered curry chicken rice and peas w / cabbage. They took absolutely no time to serve me. I got the food 60 sec after I ordered the food. I stayed in the restaurant sat down to eat the food. OMG it was amazing and it was Hot and Ready. I washed it down with Jamaican Pineapple Ginger soda my new favorite drink.It was not the best best ive ever had but boy its my first choice so far. The only reason it wasnt my best because I feel like the rice was over cooked. Thats just my opinion. I like my rice cooked exactly right. Its definitely worth it!!! Lets talk customer service! So this was my first visit to Mama's. It was a spur of the moment decision because I was in the area and hungry for a great Jamaican meal. I ordered a large curry goat and a large curry chicken meal, one with white rice and one with rice and peas. You get a cabbage/veggie mix. Meat portions were put into a small section of the 3 section styrofoam container. The rice portion fills the largest section of container. The things that were favorable? The flavors were very good for the curry goat and chicken dishes. 3 stars The larger white rice and rice/peas sides were delicious. +1 star The less favored items? No fried plantain - with the meals. The veggie mix was tasteless. The meat portions - were small for being sold as large. The price would be fair - if the meat portions were large as stated - they were not. Given 3.75 stars: If you want tasty Jamaican meat and rice dishes, this is a great place. Get the small dish - the meat portions are the same as in the large size, with lesser price. I am so excited to write this review. My father is Jamaican, born and raised, so I grew up eating authentic, home cooked, Jamaican dishes. I'm extremely skeptical when it comes to trying Jamaican food from any restaurant. It's a certain taste I'm looking for when I eat Jamaican meals and this place is right on point. My mother and I decided to give them a try over the weekend, Saturday to be exact, and it's so good we decided to go back today. The young lady working the front counter was so sweet. That's always important no matter how much you spend, customer service should always be good. She was very patient while we looked over the menu. She even let us get a sample of some items before ordering. This is a family owned business so as I looked over the menu my mother went to the bar side and spoke with the owner. He was a very kind man, I see where his daughter gets her politeness from. He welcomed us to come back for Fish Fry Friday, Throwback Thursday and the lounge on Saturday nights. They sell every authentic Jamaican dish you can think of. The fish is cooked to order and I honestly can't wait to try that next. On our first visit we had the oxtails abs curry goat! Oh my goodness! The oxtails are so tender and flavorful. Not sweet like some places but just right. The curry goat was out of this world. I'm impressed and proud of the love that goes into the meals and how they have stayed true to their culture and not Americanize the food. They even sell my favorite breakfast dish of all time, ackee and salt fish. No matter where you stay, I promise one bite of their food will make you see it's worth the drive. read more

So now it is the place we find an excuse to drive to from Buckhead. We crave this food, talk about it often, and buy twice as much as we need so we have leftovers every time. Eat the jerk chicken. I tried this place for lunch today and I hate to say it but I was shocked at how bad this was. I got had the Ox tail plate (medium). It came with Ox tails, Rice and Peas, and ONE Plantain. I also ordered a beef patty and extra side of plantains since... I only had one. The Plantains was not ripe, and cut too thick. So it was like chewing on a rock. Both the rice and peas and Oxtails were super bland... to my surprise I had to add salt to make it "okay". This is very odd for Jamaican food and I was in disbelief as I was adding it. I enjoy Mama's Paradise Restaurant. The service is extremely friendly and I can go here and get away from work for an hour. It's never too noisy, which means plenty of booths are available for me to sit in while I get lost in the oxtails. Since I don't eat chicken, my options are limited but I enjoy their oxtails. I usually order a small since that's enough. Their cabbage/vegetables and plantains are a bit blander than what I'm used to but it could be a seasonal thing. Overall, the food is amazing. Because I'm such a foodie, I have veryyyyy high expectations. With that being said I gave this place three stara based on Customer Service and the food itself. The young lady that took the call in order was rude, but not polite either. It was almost as if she didn't want to be there but wasn't goinf to be rude enough to lose her job. Now the food... My Co-worker ordered the large oxtail, extra gravy and meat seperated from the rest of the order(they were nice enough to seperate), and I ordered the large Curry chicken w/extra sauce and a kola soda. He said he liked his Oxtails so I definitely want to try. My curry was a bit too curry if that makes any sense and the extra sauce was a bit oily. Our total was 32.00. Now would I go back? Food is very good on day! Not sure if they have different cooks but my fish always taste good just taste a little different Friday. Goat soap is the best but think it's weird a 12 o.z is 4.50 (small) a 16 o.z (large) is 8.99 the math is off and when I asked the young lady with the tie head on she was very rude and made comments while walking away! This upset me but I chose to take the high road since she has no customer service or class. On a positive the food is good food and the owners great. Food is delicious and the staff is very pleasant. Stopped in with my cousin one saturday. I had the jerk chicken and it did not disappoint. She had the ackee and saltfish, not my thing but she seemed to enjoy it. The only thing I was disappointed with is during my low carb days I will order the jerk chicken with no rice add extra cabbage and they charge extra for not getting the rice . My wife and I are both from Trinidad and ate here last Saturday...when we arrived there were no beef patties...mind you it was like 5pm, so I don't understand how they were sold out of patties. We then proceeded to order two small jerk chicken plates with only cabbage; being the fact we didn't want rice they charged us for cabbage even though cabbage cane with the meal.
