Mama's kitchen was ok. But in their defense I went late in the day, after 12:00pm. I was told by one of the customers not to tell anyone about the restaurant so it can be kept a secret, which made me think the food would be off the charts. As stated above, it was ok. My friends went to a university here in San Antonio and told me I had to try the breakfast food at Mama's. So of course I had to try the breakfast at Mama's! I tried four different breakfast tacos here; the egg and potato, ham and egg, bacon and egg, and the sausage and egg. I also used some of their green salsa with my breakfast tacos as I ate them. As someone who is native to the midwest I was so beyond impressed with these tacos. The tortillas are made fresh and were so soft and thick and it just made the tacos taste even better! If you are from out of town, especially a place that doesn't do fresh tortillas, you definitely have to stop by here for some breakfast tacos! read more

Menudo madness made by mama with love!! And is there a better way to start a cold morning or any morning. The menudo comes with cilantro, onions, lime and tortillas. This is my favorite place in the universe for a most delicious and flavorful bowl of menudo. Make sure to have them add pigs feet to your order. That takes the menudo to a whole new level of delicious. Be careful when driving here the first time as this quaint little treasure can be easy to miss. Had just came from another Mexican restaurant that had high rating and was totally disappointed and fkn cold food and I had seen this pop up and since I returned my food at sabor Corinabar...I was still hungry so I called in for two different tacos and they actually listen to my instructions on my breakfast taco !!!! Yowza!! For a little restaurant, this place serves great Mexican food!!! The cheese enchiladas were amazing, super gooey cheese. Rice was amazing and so was the refried beans. My mom said that her beans were the spiciest ones she had. The decor was amazing with all the flowers and peppers, even the little displays. We used to come to Mama's when it first opened. The owners were this cute and welcoming couple from Mexico. They sold it a few years ago and it has slowly morphed into a nightclub. The music is "dance club" LOUD. I could not hear the conversation at my table. The AC was way cold. And the wait staff is constantly changing. Our waiter had biggest attitude. We commented that there had been some noticeable changes to the decor and color on the walls and he said "they're not new. It's been like this for three years. Maybe you should come more often." Ok well I can safely tell you I will be going to Fina's down the street from now on. That's my go-to spot anyway. I'll never go back to Mama's. The food is not what it used to be either. read more

I love this place. It's my favorite neighbor Mexican restaurant. The food is all homemade and traditional Mexican food. Just like going to a abuelita's house for a great meal. The sauces are also home made. They have this cinnamon coffee that they make with their own recipe that tastes terrific. You have to ask for it and they don't always have it. So if you get a cup consider yourself lucky. The inside is very quaint and colorful. The dinning area is very clean. I think because of COVID they started using disposable cutlery and such. The menu has many options. I have eaten here many times for lunch and breakfast and have not been disappointed with the taste and quality of food. The tortillas are handmade. The employees are super friendly and will speak to you in English no problem. Of course they speak Spanish too. Also, there is parking in the back which I recommend so that when you leave you are facing Hildebrant;because it's a busy street. I give this place an easy 5 star. read more

My mother and I went here for breakfast Sunday morning. They were slightly busy with a few tables still empty. We both ordered Huevos Rancheros and asked that the salsa be placed separate from the eggs. Well ANOTHER waitress (she was the oldest one out of the three) brought our plates and the eggs had salsa ON them. I told her we wanted the salsa on the side in case it was too spicy. The old waitress looked annoyed and asked me "Well did you tell the waitress who took your order that you wanted the salsa on the side?" I said "yes I did." My mother didn't mind the salsa so my mother took her plate and the old rude waitress took mine back to be redone. It took another 10 mins and with my mother finishing her plate, for me to get my breakfast plate back. I even had to ask for it. As I went to pay, the old rude waitress checked us out and I asked her for a discount since they messed up on my order and for the wait. I wouldn't have asked for a discount, but she gave me attitude earlier that I didn't appreciate. The waitress came back at me and said "Well did you eat the plate??" I said "yes but it wasn't right, I had to ask where my plate was and it took a good while to get just two eggs, beans and potatoes back out." She responded with an attitude by saying "Sorry but unless there was something in your food we don't give discounts." So with that I paid my bill, I did not tip (because even the original waitress who took our order never stopped by our table to apologize for the mistake and for the wait) and we walked out. I'm writing this experience incase it happens to anyone else. Be aware that they don't apologize for their mistakes or try to make it right to continue having your business and for any inconvenience. They should not allow that old waitress to be there with that kind of customer service. I'll never be back and will not recommend them to any one I know. read more

We both had the street tacos-chicken fajita for me and asada and pastor for my husband. He loved it!!! He is a very picky eater and was very satisfied with his meal. Worst menudo ever! Hominy was unrecognizable and the meat was mushy. The broth was too thick, and just wasn't right for regular menudo. Corn tortilla was good, but undercooked. So wanted to like this place, but will not be back. Service was good, though. read more

May not look like much from the outside, but remember the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" well this is a perfect example. Saw a fellow Yelper's review and I had to check it out to see if it was true. The address was incorrect, so I couldn't check in. No worries, since then, that problem has been corrected. My first visit, I ordered a couple of breakfast tacos. I wasn't impressed. But my partner in crime ordered the Menudo and it was really good. So good, that I wanted to return again to see if the Menudo was as good as the first time. Well it was!! It wasn't greasy. Also they can serve it with extra hominy and pigs feet. I know this might not sound good, but don't knock it until you try it. Don't like Menudo, try one of their breakfast plates. Also they give college students a discount.
