Came for lunch and the service was great but the food was pretty mediocre. It's a small restaurant serving mainly salads, sandwiches, burgers, and breakfast. There are also daily specials. Roast beef sandwich had little meat and the bread was really crusty.. It looked big but there were only a couple thin layers of meat. Fried patats were cold but the garlic herb aioli was the star. It was so good we used it as salad dressing. Crudo salad was a disappointment as the dressing was way too bland. Thus, we used the aioli. Jamon Risotto was good. Our first stop when we arrived. They service lunch and breakfast all day. So thankful to eat meat at 10am to ease my jet lag. FYI ... medium rare here means raw in the middle. The back patio is intimate and cute, and the trees provide some relief from the warm Spanish sun. From what I could tell, it seemed like the patio was mostly tourists (given I heard English from several tables), and the inside locals. Nestled in Gracia, outside the beaten path, it doesn't feel touristy but I think its reputation is starting to spread. I definitely recommend the French Toast with whipped cream and jam, but if I were up for something savory, I also eyed a tofu option. Rounded out with a latte and fresh squeezed OJ, I was a full, happy bruncher. This place is lovely. It is a small intimate restaurant but very cozy. In the front they have benches for comfortable seating along with chairs and a four seater breakfast bar. The menus come in English and Spanish if your language skills aren't the best. The have waiters that speak English and Spanish as well. The menu contains plentiful breakfast options and lunch options. Everything on the menu is freshly prepared, I.e. tomato bread, freshly squeezed orange juice (over a variety of fresh squeezed juices) as well as plentiful tea and coffee options. The eggs were scrambled just right and the bacon was crispy. There is even a roasted tomato on your plate. You can add fresh avocado too! The chai tea was perfect. The offer seating on the back but also very cozy. Watch out for the pancakes, they are huge and can be shared with your group and the maple service was very tasty. Strange mix. I've been to Mama's Cafè two times. The first time I came here for brunch and had an extremely badly prepared not amazingly good batch of pancakes. The second time I came I ordered a lunch sandwich which was pretty good. The first time I came the service was polite, and the second time too. Very pretty establishment. I had a hard time deciding on the star rating. The first time warranted 2/3, because I felt like it was a rip off to call that brunch and sell it to people who eat brunch (mostly foreigners or of foreign origin), but the second time warranted 4/5, and since the 2nd time was so positive I've rated 4 stars. Came here on a Friday afternoon with a friend to do some studying. Drink: My friend got cafe con leche and I got the infusion manzana turca. The tea was lighter than I expected but good. If I had stayed longer, I would have asked about getting more hot water. They do have an English menu. Ambiance: Very cozy and cute and clean. The back patio is a sweet spot to chat with friends and enjoy a coffee and dessert. There is shade but only for a few tables. Not sure where this would go under, but WiFi was a tad slow, so I wouldn't recommend coming here to get work done using the internet. Service: We received the menus promptly after getting situated, got our orders taken about 15 minutes after. Drinks came out in a timely manner. We asked for our check and waited about 15 to 20 minutes. After the server came out to the patio to serve other tables, we thought he had forgotten and he had. He seemed apologetic and we decided to pay at the counter so we could get going. All in all, I will be back because the food just seems too good to pass up. The waitress was very attentive and friendly, and she tried not to laugh while I practiced my Spanish with her. I got two fried eggs with tomatoes and avocado with hearty toast and a light salad. I will start off by saying that if you are looking for an American style breakfast in Barcelona this place does offer that. And the food is of decent quality, same with the coffee, which is tough to find in the area here. So quality of the food alone, 3 stars. Now for the customer service here.. I would give this place zero stars if I could. The rudest staff I have interacted with since I've been here. Everything from trying to order food, to asking politely for WiFi, to trying to pay our bill was made to be a lot more difficult than needed. The attitude of the staff members was complete disregard for any customer service. I asked the waitress for the WiFi and she told "hold on" 4 separate times, as I then watch her waltz around for the next 15 minutes not doing anything, she then finally comes back after i ask her a 5th time and slams down the password on the table... a task that could have taken 5 seconds to begin with. And then when we go to pay our bill, we had a question about something on the check and paid using some coins as well as bills, but the man up front made us feel terrible for using coins... I'm not even sure why, Euros come in full €1 and €2 coins so that seems completely normal. Overall the food was fine, but I would absolutely avoid this place due to how rude the staff is. Will not be returning and there are plenty of other breakfast spots I would recommend before. Customer service should always be important to any establishment. read more
