We stopped by Alsur cafe and they had a great brunch menu full of delicious options. On a Sunday around 2PM it was a little busy and we had a short wait for a table. We sat outside at at table that started in the sun, but as it got later it moved behind the buildings making it quite chilly. Most of the staff understand English which was also helpful as a traveler. We had some mimosas with fresh squeezed orange juice which were yummy. I ordered the pancakes with chocolate, strawberry, banana, chocolate chip, and dulce de leche they were very yummy but also too sweet. There was a ton of dulce de leche, that I almost need something savory to cut the sweetness. My cousin enjoy their chicken and waffles, but we ordered a churro nut which they ended up bringing. I have to agree with some former reviews, service is painfully slow... Even though it was not busy at all... Orders where mixed up and make sure to check your change.. that being said; The Egg Benedict Bagel was real good, Avocado Toast was a bit sparse and the Carrot/Apple Juices watered down but ok-ish.. Matcha Latte was wrongfully made with real milk instead of soymilk, so not drinkable for me.. Place is way better than the tourist traps out near la ramblas only reason why I have it a four star was because the waffles were not good and cold along with the server moving us to another table when he said we can sit anywhere but other wise the chicken I got was very good with the sauce I'm not sure what it was but it was tasty. A great spot for brunch walking distance to the Picasso Museum. My cafe con leche was excellent and they perfectly steamed the milk. Our server was excellent and let us take our time. I had the Avocado Toast and my husband had a burger. There is a great outside area to sit at and a cozy corner all the way inside in the back. The eggs benedict was just ok. They put it on a bagel, but it wasn't a bagel. It was bread baked to look like a bagel. The arepa was really good. I loved the white cheese that it came with. We were greeted with a hello and opted to sit inside instead of on the terrace. The place is absolutely gorgeous, with a hipster feel to it. I ordered the classic mojito, while my girlfriend had the classic bellini (peach bellini). Both were great! My girlfriend tried my mojito but she found it a little too sweet, but it was perfect for me, as a I like it a little bit sweeter than usual. It's worth mentioning that the mojito was fairly cheap at €3.50, while the bellini was pretty average price at arouns €5.00. We had also ordered the guac with plantain chips which was absolutely delicious! It was our first time having guac with plantain chips and we weren't disappointed! Why this place is worth the extra sheckels: + Star - Cake. Let them eat it... especially the carrot cake it's crazy good. + Star - Cava by the copa. It's not the cheapest in town, but hell's yes it's crazy drinkable. So, meh, why not buy a bottle??!! + Star - Hilarious bathroom. I have a laugh every time I see the round toilet bowl (in the ladies... not sure what the men's is like). + Star - Tolerable staff. One gets very used to terrible Spanish customer service, but these folks here are all pretty nice and attentive. What a relief! + Star - Brunch! Yay! Very few places in Barcelona offer this and it's nice to have it, but even better when it's good. Try the eggs Florentine! + Star - Terrace. I love to sit out there and gaze at the locals. This cafe has a wonderful atmosphere which feels very cosy, with big armchairs and a "living room" look (well the kind of living room you wish you had but you dont). I have taken beetroot juice which was wonderful. My friend took pink lemonade- an actual homemade one and not the sweet glue they sell in the US and it was very nice too! as food we went for eggs florentine, which were good- not amazing- but then I am also super picky with breakfast food. I soon discovered, thanks to their helpful staff, I was looking at the wrong menu. Sunday early afternoon features something a bit different, but I was still able to satisfy my craving with their nachos - plantains and guacamole. That dish made an excellent couple. Crunchy and salty were paired with a touch of spice creaminess. Being outdoors in the Barcelona sun is great. If you don't enjoy smoking, like me, choose your seat wisely. Also be prepared for overhearing fun topics from nearby tables such as "she's such a slag" or "I don't really know my father, grandma, please tell me more". Alsur is one of the best cafes in Barca for co-working, with its huge self-service area with tables aplenty and comfy couch seats. It boasts free wifi using Social Wifi, which means yes, everyone will see you checking in on FB each time you log on. The coffee is average, but they make up for it with amazing iced teas. The proper lunch fare is tasty but a bit pricey; going at lunch for their 'menu del dia' is the best option, with a drink, dessert and coffee for only 2 euros extra. El Born is already the perfect place to be. Alsur Cafe just makes it better. There is a beautiful outside seating area with great lighting, lots of plants, and usually someone playing music in the square. However, if you're not a fan of people smoking around you I recommend going inside. (this is true for all of Barcelona and most of Europe). No this is not tapas - and that is 100% okay. Don't get me wrong tapas in Barcelona are great! If that is what you're looking for, keep strolling through El Born and come back to Alsur tomorrow. The inside decor makes for a quaint coffee shop feel, but there is actually a ton of space. I would describe the atmosphere as boho meets hipster. Funny quotes on the wall, oversized armchairs, and a family style wood table in the middle. The food is great and the staff is really nice. **Menu in English and in Spanish!** A full cabinet of fresh pastries if you just want a cafecito and a cookie, or a full brunch and lunch menu if you are craving a little more. I heard a lot about this place as one of the go-to places in El Born. It is located in a nice street and is one of the larger cafes in El Born. It has a nice atmosphere with lots of seats with a lounge area, a laptop area, and an outside seating area. The laptop area is decent for working and is considered the self-service area where you go up to the bar and order, then pick your own table. The cafe is air-conditioned, but it is not particularly strong and won't exactly cool you off during a hot day. The laptop area is decent for working, as it is generally quiet even with music playing in the background. There is both a couch area as well as round tables with stools that are slightly uncomfortable. Free wifi is avaliable, but you have to check in on Facebook or use your email. If you don't want everyone seeing you check-in, just switch to the post they make you post to be visible only for you. Unfortunately, the internet is kind of slow, but it is usable for the most part with no drops as far as I know of. There's practically no outlets. The coffee is mediocre. I ordered the Banana Toffee Mocha, but it honestly just tasted like chocolate and coffee. It was a bit too sweet, but in general I can't really tolerate sweet foods. The cafe con leche was average too. I also came here earlier and got a mojito which was below average. The prices were average for most coffee shops with seating areas. I haven't tried any of the other drinks, but they supposedly taste better. The services is okay. Because they bring the drinks to you, there's usually waiters moving about. In the self-serve area, it takes awhile for tables to get cleaned up because they have a large amount of area to cover. The bathrooms look nice but they have graffiti and scratches like most public restrooms. The toilets are shaped really weird, however, and there are no paper towels. When I was there, there was a chip on the toilet and the hand blow dryer was not working. Overall, although it took a decent amount of time to get the internet working, this place is decent for working. No wow factor, but I'd come back just for a place to work as I have not found another place with wifi and lots of seating. read more

Alsur is interesting for the foodie. I'd say it's unique and I give it credit for the experimental "cross-fooding" it explores, but it's way overrated. I ate great nachos for lunch but most of the other options were just overdone. Don't put egg on a churro or bacon in a Bloody Mary, it's distasteful and even demeaning. One useful tip for the desserts is to order what you want inside the bakery part after your meal if you want it faster and cheaper. Baked goods are more expensive at the table than in the bakery- possibly because they're fresher? Idk. Either way, service was painfully slow. Couldn't get the waiters attention and had to ask for things multiple times. Also, be warned that you have to pay extra to sit on the terrace outside. A little annoying im pretty sure sunshine and nature is a public good and right but whatever. I love both Alsur locations but this is one is quite a bit bigger with more sunny open space. Barcelona is definitely not known for its customer service. But Alsur is an exception. The staff here is awesome. Speaks English. Very friendly and helpful. And the food is fantastic and really fresh, good ingredients. I loved their avocado and shrimp salad and patatas bravas are perfectly roasted. And my boyfriend had the mini hamburgers and loved those too. Pastries are great here. Great find for breakfast/brunch! They have a great selection of coffee drinks, fresh juices, and boozy brunch cocktails! The menu has a little something for everyone. They have quite a large patio for outdoor seating and cozy tables inside with pillows around the sides. They also have free wi-fi. I saw several people just having coffee and working on laptops, or just stopping in for bakery treats.
