I'm so happy that this NYC chain opened up in the heart of NJ- Princeton. I had Saturday brunch here with a friend and it was such a lively and bustling restaurant with a natural light filled interior. There are plants and vines everywhere and the restaurant itself is very spacious. It gets packed and they don't take reservations so be prepared to wait for a table. When you enter, you seat yourself then order at the counter and the food service was so quick! I love that the menu options were all healthy and made to order. OBSESSED. so happy this place opened up. I am originally from NYC so to have a piece of it in central jersey is so exciting. The food, vibes and service are incredible. We went to brunch as a group and it was so efficient to split bills, order and eat. Great experience. We ordered at the counter and we had our delicious drinks and food brought to us. We got a few different things including pastries (great options), brunch - salads, sandwiches and ratatouille. We had two vegans in the group who were able to enjoy cookies and avocado toast. The star of the show was our dessert the Belgian waffles. Cannot wait to return. I hope we continue to get great spots in town! read more

Why would you circle the block for parking, line up, attempt to choose from a surprisingly limited selection of so called "French Pastries"only to be accosted by dry $4.00 croissants,bitter pan de chocolate,and "Oprah's favorite chocolate cookies all of which is a hell of a lot better and cheaper at your local Wegman's bakery counter?....Good question. You don't have to because I did....And I'll be damned if I'll ever do it again. With a beautifully decorated dining room, all fake vines, old woods, floral blues everywhere and cafe chairs meant to emulate some vague version of a Paris bakery/cafe Maman delivers atmosphere in spades.....but that is where the vision ends. A quick glance at their offerings as we wait in line made me wonder when the bakery was going to kick in......a choice of perhaps 18 baked items, no breads that I could see and old wilted and hard,congealed examples of their "kitchen" menu items under glass all this at 10 AM on a Sunday. Limited waiter service {place your order,pay and grab a number, place on table and hope your waiter finds you before your Croque Madam hardens into an inedible mass} so table space is at a premium as squatters nursing bespoke coffees linger, so it's a grab a pricy apple tart, spring for the double expresso in that oh so precious blue floral cup and off you go. Folks...hop in the Volvo and take a trip to Montreal..... beautiful this time of year and stop in at any Première Moisson to truly experience a French Bakery because Maman is not. I was so THRILLED when I found out that there was a Maman opening in my hometown. I always go to the New York locations, and to be able to go to one just a 10-minute drive from me solidified my status as a Maman loyalist. This dining-style cafe is very much Panera-esque whereby you seat yourself and you clean after yourself when you're done dining. However, the clean yourself message is not really portrayed all that well, with most patrons leaving and expecting their table to be cleaned instead. If there was a trash station, I feel it would help get this message across as opposed to small bins underneath the utensil/napkins station. A good restaurant that does this in Princeton is Jammin' Crepes. I love the food, I love the drinks, the service is great, it's just unclear messaging about the whole clean-up-after-yourself. And it's very annoying on the weekends when all the seats are packed and people don't clean up after themselves. Please consider some kind of clean-up station, it would really help the flow of the business. read more

Great location, but perhaps a few kinks to workout. From the items we had below is a summary: (1) egg sandwich with bacon jam - the portions were off. Too much bacon jam, which was incredibly sweet and overpowered every other flavor on the sandwich. The egg was supposed to be fried, but it was less than over easy. The brioche was good by could be toasted to avoid soggy bread. (2) Nutella Beignet - the filling was good, as well as the chocolate pearls on top, but the dough was dense and oily (3) chocolate croissant - was burnt. As a picky coffee and pastry lover from Brooklyn, I don't understand all these bad reviews! We came in on a busy Sunday morning and the gorgeous, airy ambience immediately caught our eye (very instagram friendly!) ; the line was long but we were able to order within five minutes. Keep in mind this is a cute little cafe, not a Cheesecake Factory so the menu options are limited and straight to the point as any café should be. It would be nice if the people at the register would know the menu a bit better but this place just opened and it's to be expected. We tried the Katie sandwich, breakfast sandwich, vanilla cappuccino, and iced vanilla latte. We also tried some pastries. We got a number to put on our table and sat down. Our drinks came within a couple of minutes in the cutest cups, and our food came less than five minutes after that. The coffee was absolutely amazing and probably one of the best cappuccinos I've ever had (again, I'm extremely picky with my coffees and appreciate the taste of a good espresso that's not watered down or too sweet). The pastries were okay, they weren't the most fresh and would've been better if they were warmed up. However, I wouldn't hesitate to get their pastries if I'm craving a little treat. The breakfast sandwich was a little too sweet for my liking (I should've known because bacon jam is an ingredient listed...jam is generally sweet) but was good quality. The Katie sandwich was excellent and the chicken was juicy. We even took coffees to go! I tried a honey lavender cappuccino, but the honey lavender flavor was pretty bitter and not my thing. There were also employees coming around taking dirty dishes from the table, which I think was very kind of them considering there's an area to put your own dirty dishes. I think this will definitely be my go-to shop for a cute little breakfast/lunch. P.S., not liking the taste of a food isn't a reason to give a place a bad review. I stopped in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. The ambience was comfortable as there is seating inside and out. You order at the counter (beware of all the delicious looking pastries), get a number and have a seat. I tried the iced vanilla chai which was made just right and the avocado tartine. The avocado toast had a lovely presentation with fresh sea salt, pumpkin seeds, and red pepper flakes to season as you like. It was two slices of toast so I had leftovers! I finished it for lunch. For the price and type of establishment Maman tries to be, the service is severely lacking for those with lactose issues. My fiancé is lactose intolerant and we paid extra for oat milk in her iced latte. The cups had no indication if oat milk was used and the server wasn't 100% sure. If you're familiar with what can happen if it's a mess up, it's a bad situation that ruins the whole day - setting aside the $1.50 up charge. We each tried the drinks and couldn't tell ourselves. She went up and asked for it to be remade so she can see it was actually oat milk as we couldn't be 100% certain. The person who she spoke with was snooty and rude for a request that has real health implications, saying "I gave you oat". My fiancé works in the food industry and came back surprised on the experience as it should have been a simple "sure not a problem" and lead to this review being written up. The drinks there are great, the food is great, the pastries are great; but this is a massive blind spot when you're in the hospitality industry. read more

My first experience was at their nyc location and lucky me, that day Ryan Reynolds was right in front of me standing in the queue with his family. We went to Princeton location and the food is just delicious and ambiance is really nice. Staff is caring and work really hard to keep up with the demand. It is very pricey for sure and not many items that were eggless (huge demand given the area). The food ordering process needs to evolve. I am pretty sure they can keep an iPad on the table for each table to order it rather than have to stand in the line, as this would bring in efficiency and people standing in the line are not bumping or are not took close to adjacent tables. If the ordering process is efficient and prices a bit more reasonable, hey it's not nyc, I think it's a great place. Location is A+. Oh yeah try their Lavender Latte, really nice. read more

Stand in line for ten minutes to order 2 croissants and espressos. Jam and some butter are extra charges. $16.80 and they want a tip. Really? Wait fifteen minutes for the espressos. (Btw in Italy it's two mins tops even with a crowded counter.) To use the rest room you can only get in with an access code that you procure from the cashier/order filler guy so it's back in the line. Seriously? This is a one and done place. read more

Nice strength with a good flavor. The vanilla latte was good as well. But combining them with the cookie was a great pairing. Cookie is not to sweet but combined with the flavor of the coffees it was a real treat. Definitely recommend stopping here if you are visiting Princeton. read more

Starting outside the cafe you can already see how aesthetic it is. From the wall decor to the tea cups everything was beautiful. The pastries are very good here. Came here on a Monday at 11:40am -- definitely not a busy time -- and it took 30 minutes for a simple latte and croissant (from the glass, not heated up) to come out. Not sure what people are doing behind the counter since it takes so long... but there are plenty of workers. That being said, the guys and gals who clean up the tables are very friendly. But yeah, very slow service... Don't come here if you're in a hurry. Come here if you have a buffer of half an hour. Also, their croissant tastes literally the exact same as a Costco croissant... I love this place, but it's got to work out some kinks. First time I tried to go, place was closed for a private event. Next time I tried, I got inside, the sign said kitchen closed at 4-- cool, because I got there at 3:45-- only to be told that the kitchen actually closed at 3:45 and the sign was wrong. So I just got two types of croissants, coffee and tea. For dine-in, pastries were served on pretty plates with utensils, napkins and water glasses available in a self-serve area. The pistachio croissant was delightful, the coffee was just okay, at least the tea selection was interesting. The place itself is very aesthetically pleasing and just a lovely spot to be in, both inside and its location in Palmer Square. Prices were justified for the quality, and are actually average for Princeton, which is on the higher side. One star off for the miscommunication about the hours, and dirty utensils. read more

I really enjoy this cafe. I'm gluten free and there are plenty of options for me. I tend to stick with the tartine saumon on gluten free bread because I love it. I tried an omelette with Comte cheese, tomatoes and Parisian ham and it was excellent. The seasoning was perfect. The omelette was served with dressed greens. They could've backed off on the dressing a bit. I also ordered a side of roasted potatoes. Again, perfectly seasoned and a large serving. It was so much food it made two meals for me. I've only ordered a cortado or a cold brew and I've enjoyed them both. I also want to mention the service. It's always been great. You have to order at the counter but they bring your food and bus your table. The employees are very pleasant. I subtract one star because it is difficult to order from the pastry case. I tell my friends to take a picture so they remember what they want by the time they get to the counter. As some people have mentioned it does get crowded. I'm a Princetonian so I know when to avoid going to town and I know all the secret parking spots. Luckily, I'm an early bird and I go in the mornings and I've never had a problem with parking. read more

Given the size of the place, the staff had difficulty finding the table, so by the time the order is prepared and brought to your table, the food and beverages have already gone stone cold. I visited this morning. Day 3 for the bakery. It's lovely inside and very pleasant staff. However, it is very expensive. Bacon jam, egg and avocado sandwich was over $17 including tax and a 20% tip. And, they need to totally rethink the sandwich itself. The bacon jam is soooooooooo sweet that it ruined the sandwich. And $17 for an egg sandwich that was inedible, is not acceptable to me. I'll try the bakery again with the thought in mind that it's a lot more expensive than the other places in town that a are similar. read more

The place is very attractive, and if not for Covid, I could imagine spending hours here each week and having most of my lunch meetings there. Excellent coffee drinks. Croissants are adequate, but not as good as The Little Chef, who makes the best croissant in town by a mile. Croissants are on par with the other places in town, and Maman has superior atmosphere. Salads are good. Egg sandwich was horribly sweet - thus inedible for me. Too much bacon jam and too sweet. The idea of bacon jam is fine, the execution was not due to over-sweetness. The breakfast bowl with potatoes and egg and bacon jam was tasty, but sooo heavy between the bacon jam and oil, that I wouldn't order more than once every few months. I would love to order the omelet, but don't like red peppers and can't imagine an omelet without sautéed onions or shallots - and this was not an option. Please add this option and make me happy! Actually, take most of the sugar out of your bacon jam, add sautéed or caramelized (without too much sugar) onions or shallots to your omelet selection and I will be thrilled to change my review to a 5. I experienced very cheerful service, my husband had less satisfying interaction. Agree with a previous reviewer that table service would be nice so don't have to wait in line without knowing if you will get a table or not. read more
