After years of working down the block from this cafe I finally had lunch there. I didn't realize what I was missing! The place is welcoming and adorable, they have indoor and outdoor seating, the menu offers something for everyone from breakfast to sandwiches, salads, wraps, and the most delicious freshly baked pastries around. The owners are super friendly, attentive and they make you feel like you're visiting their home. They also serve a mean espresso. This is definitely a hidden neighborhood gem in Princeton and a must visit.

Delizioso Bakery & Kitchen is a scratch bakery and cafe on Witherspoon Street, Princeton, NJ. It has a small dining area divided by high glass display cases, with preparation area behind the side wall of the shop. Within that display were many stunningly beautiful pastries competing for attention. The menu deals in breakfast and lunch, and as I was there at about 10:00 a.m., I perused the morning menu. Prices were higher than on the Yelp menu, and I immediately knew this was going to be a true Princeton meal, where cost is just part of the community's ethos. The real question was; would it be worth it? The empirical answer was; certainly so! I ordered the Breakfast Wrap. Not only was it stuffed with scrambled egg, but it also contained plenty of crisp bacon, and melted cheese. Most impressively, the wrap itself was made from scratch on the grill, and not from a plastic bag. As a result, it was thicker than any I had experienced before, with more texture and flavor. It was so good that it would have been acceptable as a crepe in its own right with a little sugar and cinnamon or fruit preserves. A full side of home fries accompanied the wrap. These taters were cut into small cubes, baked/pan fried with sautéed onion and roasted red pepper slices. Excellent! There was enough for two here, and I really couldn't finish. The quantity surprised, but the quality delighted! I just wish I had room for a sampling of their sweets. Lin & Eric were wonderful hosts. Just in time to make my list of top breakfasts in 2022.

Start with creamy tomato soup joined to a mini grilled cheese and lobster slider. Perfect. Follow-up with filet mignon that melted just based on a glance. We had a 6:30 reservation on a Thursday evening and appreciated the complimentary valet parking upon arrival. After being seated, we were each offered a complimentary glass of champagne, which was a nice way to start our anniversary dinner. My wife ordered a Pinot Noir while I had the Smoked Old Fashioned. The cocktail was brought to the table in a small capped carafe with smoke visible inside and poured over a single large ice cube. I enjoyed the presentation, which added a little something different to the usual Old Fashioned. For my entrée, I ordered the 14 oz. New York Strip Steak medium rare, accompanied by mushroom risotto and bordelaise sauce. The sauce was used sparingly, allowing the flavor of the steak to stand on its own. The mushroom risotto was a nice change from the more traditional potato sides usually served with steak. My wife had the Dungeness Crab Spaghetti Arrabbiata, which she enjoyed, although she thought the sauce could have had a little more heat. She even commented that Rao's jarred Arrabbiata sauce was spicier. To end our meal, we both had a cappuccino and shared an apple crisp dessert with vanilla gelato. Service from Louis was attentive without being intrusive. JP, who was new and shadowing Louis, also assisted throughout the evening. The dining room was somewhat intimate, with approximately a dozen tables. The building has a historic character that seems to be preserved throughout, which adds to the atmosphere. One thing we found interesting was that we appeared to be the oldest diners by at least ten years when we arrived. Everyone else was already partway through their meals, so perhaps it was simply the time or day of our visit. About 45 minutes later, another couple, who were younger than us and celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary, was seated a couple of tables away. Overall, we enjoyed our anniversary dinner at The Perch. Between the historic setting, attentive service, and enjoyable meal, it was a nice place to celebrate the occasion. We would certainly consider returning the next time we're in Princeton.

These are weekends I try to avoid but my guests, not so much. Despite being mobbed, Agricola is quickly becoming a go-to favorite as the service is crisp and the "Brunch" menu is worthy of being overpriced. The Bang Bang Cauliflower and the Butternut Squash soup were both first rate along with a rare cheeseburger that was still breathing (yum.) Agricola richly deserves five stars.

I did a quick Mary Tyler Moore trot across the street and entered into a mudroom style area where there was a collection of umbrellas. I found the floors inside the dining area to be very slippery so leaving the umbrellas by the door makes the most sense on this type of day. The dining room has a rustic-chic aesthetic with wood paneling and a comfortable farmhouse environment. I made reservations in advance and was happy to be seated immediately upon arrival. We declined the table we were initially offered since it looked a bit cramped, like the end of a table that was already seated. Considering the restaurant wasn't busy, we asked to be seated elsewhere. The new table was much better, a high top with a convenient hidden compartment under the table where you can store your personal items. Service was quick. I ordered the slow cooked short rib hash with sous vide egg. I asked for the egg to be cooked as firm as it can get. Ultimately, I had to change it to a fried egg. I tried the sous vide..I did!..but a runny egg just isn't for me. Now the short rib was delicious, made with house made mozzarella, fingerling potatoes with a red wine demi. I am reliving my first bite as I write out my thoughts for this review. I will be back for that meal alone. I paired it with a sparkling rosé followed by a French 75. For dessert, I ordered both the caramel creme brulee and the cinnamon swirl bread pudding. Unfortunately, I had to return the creme brulee since I didn't realize it was a chocolate base. Traditionally, creme brulee is made with a vanilla bean custard so I was surprised to see their spin and noticed only once it hit the table. The bread pudding, however, was warm with just the right amount of cinnamon and sweetness, served with vanilla ice cream. I look forward to returning the next time I'm in Princeton specifically for the short rib hash and the bread pudding. Would recommend.
