The food was incredibly good. Big enough to share. Ricardo was a great server. Everything came out quick.

Mr. X and I recently traveled to Princeton for a convention, and were quite pleased to find this historic restaurant that opened in 1927. We had a little time to kill so we stopped in for breakfast, which was great! I had a three egg omelet filled with bacon, cheddar cheese, and tomato served with delightful delicate, thin sliced hash browns. Mr. X had a very interesting thing called a "One Eyed Jack"-- it was 2 thick slices of brioche french toast with a fried egg dropped into a hole in the center of each slice, served with butter and syrup on the side. Tasty coffee with free refills accompanied by wonderful friendly service. Spotlessly clean men's room. This was a five star experience for both of us-- and you all know how hard it is to please Mr. X! Highly recommended, right near Princeton University and the square. read more

I came to the Nassau Diner for the 1st time a few weeks ago. Had made plans to meet a friend/former co-worker in Princeton, approximately halfway between where he lived and I lived. We planned to meet later in the day than I'm usually used to, but we were going to hook up at my usual Princeton destination, the justifiably esteemed Princeton Record Exchange. I had been inside the store for only a few minutes when the sales-clerk announced that the store was closing for the day (so early? I guess so). I talked on the phone with my friend (he hadn't arrived yet) and we ultimately met at Hulfish Parking. Most of the stores seemed to be closing so--- Where to eat? Good question. There had been talk of catastrophic storms that day, but the weather was sunny, warm and bright, so my level of high anxiety had lessened somewhat. Nice meal with a friend, good conversation, and a leisurely drive home. For whatever reason, we settled on the Nassau Diner. Bright white interior, and the place was empty (in retrospect, not surprising, given the grim weather prognostications). We caught up on what had been going on in our lives, what was going on in politics (I am what I am and he's an atheistic socialist Albanian Muslim, so our political conversations, as you might imagine, aren't your typical "water-cooler roundtables" that you so often encounter with co-workers at the job. When we discuss "Trump-sters," he refers to them often, in scathing tones, as "dimberlaks." Not sure what that means, exactly, but it gets the point across) and finally, belatedly, stopped to peruse the menu. My friend ordered some kind of double cheeseburger that looked delicious. I decided on the chicken fried steak. Not a favorite of mine, but every once in a while, I get a yen for it. (First time I tried it was over 30 years ago in a small country restaurant in the desert near Valley Center, CA. I was severely hung over and my oldest friend suggested chicken fried steak, saying it was good "drunk food." I ordered it, liked it, and it did help with the hangover...although not as much as the ever-present Vicodin I popped). The chicken fried steak came with hash-brown potatoes and 2 scrambled eggs. Feeling extravagant, I also ordered a vanilla milkshake. The steak was a bit tough, and the food not as plentiful as I might have hoped, but overall I was satisfied with what I ate. The prices seemed higher than what you might pay at a diner somewhere else, but then this is Princeton, and I always expect prices to be somewhat higher in Princeton. The bill was paid (there were a few more patrons straggling in), and my friend and I parted after saying we had to get together more often. As darkness fell, the floodgates opened and my ride home was a nightmarish horror-show, but that's another review for another time (I guess when I at some point in the future review "catastrophic storms I almost got killed in"). In closing, I would summarize by saying that I liked what I had, it was tasty and filling enough, service was pleasant and efficient, and I wouldn't necessarily avoid this place the next time I come to Princeton. Not an enthusiastic review, obviously, but not a bad one either. It was OK, hence the 3-star rating. read more

This diner is smack in the middle of downtown Princeton on Nassau Street. It is a lovely diner and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The menu is limited. For example, they had a turkey club sandwich for about 17.00. They had a pastrami sandwich for 25.00. I asked if I could have a turkey sandwich. At first, the waiter said no but I asked him to check. He came back and said I could, but I'd have to pay the same price as the pastrami sandwich. (Why didn't I think of ordering the turkey club without the cheese and bacon???). I said ok - - to my even bigger dismay, the turkey was not turkey from the bone - it was processed turkey (the slimy kind). Ugh. In this location, I expected it to be better. The seating was plentiful and comfortable when we were there on a weekday morning. I was surprised it was not more busy. I was a little disappointed with my Open Face Turkey sandwich, as it was more like deli meat than fresh carved turkey. My friends had the Club Sandwich, Pastrami Sandwich, and the Benedict. For the food offerings, especially breakfast items, the prices seemed high. But, this is Princeton. My overall experience is at 3.5. This was one of the worst chicken sandwiches I've ever eaten. It was battered not breaded which would've been nice to know, the chicken was dry, bland, and I got a weird chewy bite. The mozzarella sticks were very average diner sticks. The service was also bad, one of the people I went with asked to switch their side to onion rings 2 minutes after ordering and the guy just said no and walked away no explanation or hey let me check just no and gone. We came here on a Saturday afternoon after walking around the Princeton area for a bit. Since this is diner, we figure that it would be pretty standard diner food at pretty standard diner prices, but we were unfortunately wrong. I got the Hotel California burger with fries on the side - the burger was mediocre at best, it was supposed to also have garlic aïoli and it had none; the fries were OK, but not very crispy. We got mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and they just weren't good, the marinara was very salty and the sticks weren't as cheesy as other places. What I think makes this place deserve a one star (and I'm giving it to simply because the burger was only OK) is the service. The waiter we had was very rude and condescending. We asked to switch the fries to onion rings right after we had gotten our order taken, and he gave us a flat out "No" when we knew he hadn't even taken our order back to the kitchen yet. He never asked what we wanted to drink so we had to call him back again to order that. I understand that working in a client facing role can be hard and take a toll on people, but I do feel like you should make the customer feel like they are wanted in your establishment and that is not how we felt. The restaurant is fairly big and it extends all the way to the back so there's a lot more seating than what you can see from the window. The chairs, though, were very low in comparison to the table, so we couldn't really put our arms on top of it, which made dining very uncomfortable. read more

I thought this was very good. I had the3 egg omelette special that comes with 3 fillings choices (I opted for turkey sausage, smoked salmon and spinach) and multigrain toast on the side. Pretty good portions and a nicely done/tasty, so it is a good deal. I tasted my kid's blueberry pancakes and they were delicious. My wife says she has been here three times and never had a bad meal. And as others have said, the coffee is excellent. It's an old establishment and very bright white lighting and decor. Attentive service. read more

Had a late lunch at the Nassau Diner yesterday, and it was delicious! With diners rapidly disappearing, the Nassau Diner manages to keep the best parts of a "diner" without the drawbacks. Bright, clean, welcoming, the atmosphere is great. The desserts tempt you as you enter, and we were warmly welcomed. The menu is varied, with something for everyone, without the overwhelming menu you might get in an old school diner. Breakfast always available! Prices are not too bad, you ARE on Nassau Street in Princeton, after all. I had Vegetarian Eggs Benedict. It was delicious. I have never had a more perfectly cooked egg. The food was all so fresh, and beautifully presented. I hope to become a regular. read more

Came here for dinner with some friends. The gorgeous, spacious interior made me feel like I was in an old fashioned soda pharmacy. Absolutely stunning interior and a cozy yet upscale atmosphere! Since we came on a Wednesday night, it was practically empty alongside a few other diners. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I opted to go for the turkey club that was served on multigrain bread. It was a good serving size, very filling, and I did enjoy the taste. The fries were perfect. My friends wanted breakfast for dinner and they each got a stack of pancakes which they both really enjoyed. I feel like for diner food, it is more expensive than usual compared to other diners in this area for about the same quality. I think being that it's in downtown Princeton in a more upscale diner space is probably what makes it higher priced than most diners. However I enjoyed the food and atmosphere and I think it's a nice addition to the town. Perfect place for my friends and me to catch up. Next time I'd love to try a milkshake or cake! read more

3.5 stars We've been here several times now and while we still enjoy it, the initial excitement of the ultra modern old fashioned diner wore off. I've been ordering the Jersey breakfast each time - and it's good - but I wish there are other menu items that interests me more. I've seen the omelets from other diners which stopped me from ordering the omelet. The omelets look like the smooth, thinned out kind. I prefer the thicker, eggier type. On our last visit, service lagged. On our first few visits, our waiter came by to refill our coffee as soon as our cup was halfway done. Where did he come from? Somehow, he was always right there whenever we needed coffee! This last visit was a different story. We had to flag down our server multiple times for coffee. I know they're busy - the diner was full- but we had a very different experience previously. read more

Love the interior design. Our waiter was friendly and we got our food pretty quick, even though it was the lunch time rush on a Wednesday. My chicken steak tasted good, it reminded me of a fried pork chop. Had a nice fried crisp to it. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The breakfast potatoes were very buttery. My friend ordered the Israeli Breakfast. The Israeli salad that came with her meal was delicious. The olives in it were fresh and not extremely salty. Awful food, good service. I ordered the pastrami hash with eggs over well and given the menu photos had expectations for a meat rich experience served over home fries topped by my eggs. The only thing that was realized was that the eggs were served on top of the hash. The hash was a huge disappointment being mostly potatoes with specs of pastrami. It was served beside a good portion of home fries and topped by my runny, underdone fried eggs. The only redeeming part of my meal was a tasty iced tea. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

First time at diner and was greeted nicely by host "cesar" and was seated . once at table we waited for a server and took quite a long time. my husband had to wave down a waitress to get our order, she came to our table very annoyed. Never said hello or how can I help you? only one female waitress who had glasses and curly hair. She gave us a smile and said hello and was very welcoming. Was excited to see they had milkshakes, so I went up to the counter to see the posted menu. There were also fresh juices. Felt kind of dumb when a waiter came by and said that the menu was also on the table (it was in the center of the table, kind of where restaurants would generally put specials). I live in Princeton, but I've passed by The Nassau Diner time and again since it opened three years ago. I told myself myself that a diner in Princeton couldn't possibly measure up, but everything was outstanding. The menu offers choices you won't find anywhere else and the coffee is refreshingly NOT Small World roast that so many residents and visitors like--it's better. Tastes like they grind the beans. Also, my waitress, Yendi, was really lovely, which is why she got a larger-than-normal tip from my business associate and why I'm writing this review: she'll get a free meal from the owner. She deserves it. Me and my business associate occupied the booth for three hours. Thank you, Nassau Diner, I will be back very soon! read more

We have eaten at the Nassau Diner 50-60 times in the years since it has opened. It is sparkling clean (especially the restrooms), and quiet enough for easy conversations. The various dishes are modest but carefully prepared with fresh ingredients. Service is prompt but not over-fast --- you never get the sense that you are being rushed for the next cover. It is not meant as haute cuisine, but for what it tries to be it is first rate. read more

First of all the service was and the tropical paradise was great! The food on the other hand, not so much. We started with the onion rings and the batter was like a tempura batter and they were meh. I was hopping they were breaded like most places.I had the Ruben and it was made with corn beef that tasted like rubber ; possibly microwaved. "The Nassau Diner offers a fully curated menu of comfort food classics mindful of the sophistication and expectation that is Princeton." Really Jeeves? I want my hash browns crispy, not curated (a hollow, throwaway word if there ever was one.) This gilded-age snow globe is pretension personified with expense account pricing and portions small enough to elude my monocle, all tethered to service that can best be described as curiously uncurated. So, in the meantime enjoy your bespoke muffin basket while I'll be slumming it on Route 1 where the hoi polloi play and the greasy spoons dance the Nutcracker. Two stars with extra starch. 3.5 or less on the chicken fried chicken. It was the smallest portion in a diner type restaurant that I have ever had. My son got chicken fried steak which is one of our favorite breakfast dishes. Almost everywhere that serves a chicken fried steak it is such a big plate that we never finish, I think this might be the first time we ever finished an American breakfast diner dish. Both very overcooked, the chicken more so. It was quite thin, so don't need to fry that long. You can see by the panko that is is dark already. The atmosphere is high end antique beautiful diner setting. 5 stars on the comfort and setting for sure. I think their burgers are good, we saw some people order it. Will be back for burgers and their sandwiches. The prices are a standard good value, $15-18 for various loaded burgers is a good deal including fries. Shake Shack is already about $9 for a burger and $5 for fries separate and its a small small kids size. And its fast food, higher quality but still fast food that is expensive, not a fan. I rather come to The Nassau Diner and enjoy their burger in a relaxing setting. Mardo our server and friend, we met last month when I visited my son at Princeton and we had dinner at La Mezzaluna. He's our man, super friendly, great customer service with a smile, we always appreciate his hard work. 6 stars for Mardo 3 stars for today but we'll be back to try non-breakfast items such as the burger. read more

I appreciate any restaurant that sells burgers in Princeton, so I was excited to try out The Nassau Diner, only to come out of it slightly disappointed. I got the Cowboy Burger (bacon, onion rings, barbecue) and found it interesting how they had two patties. My friend ordered the California Burger (avocado, garlic aioli) only to get a classic American Burger, no avocado nor garlic aioli. She was able to get the avocados after asking but they had ran out garlic aioli. Both of us also ordered milkshakes, which were pretty hefty considering they were only $7. However, they were extremely heavy on the milk. I got the Coffee Truffle which tasted more like chocolate milk. My friend got the Caramel Pretzel which tasted like milk with mint? Seemed like they didn't clean their blender properly before making her drink. Fortunately, she didn't have any allergies, but this is something to be aware of if you are food sensitive. Overall, I suppose it is like a diner experience where the food is average and the service is slow. As for the physical restaurant, it is huge and would definitely be great for a family get-together, so long as you're not trying to impress them with the food. read more

Brand new restaurant (I believe it opened over the summer?) and it shows, it's impeccably clean, gorgeous decor, the floor, the seating, even the bathroom. Just a really nice vibe. The staff are all very friendly, very helpful, the waiters and the hostess all great. We were there for lunch and took our time catching up and never felt rushed. The food was delicious. Some of us had breakfast, some had lunch food, the matzo ball soup on a cold afternoon so perfect. Highly recommend and we will be back. Everyone enjoyed their meals. read more
